Places to stay in Mamhead
In a peaceful, charming Devon hamlet, a converted bakery near to a 15th Century thatched cottage, with lovely views. Corona Virus update: After the Government's advice issued on the 23rd of March 2020 about travel bans and self-isolation at home, we are sadly not taking any bookings for the foreseeable future. We hope this is all as short-lived as possible and we hope to open as soon as it is permitted.
The room was last used as a bakery in the 1950s and still has much of the original bread oven. Recently converted with a modern shower room. Kitchenette with kettle, toaster and small refrigerator. Cooking facilities of microwave and fast induction hob. There is a very comfortable kingsize bed and a 4ft sofa bed for an adult or two small children. An optional cosy bunk bed (full length) above the old oven at the back of the Bakery can serve as an extra bed. Travel cot also available. Breakfast: Breakfast is provided for you in the Bakery for you to eat at your own leisure. This includes local free range eggs, bread, brioches, muesli and cereal, yoghurt, fruit and a selection of jams and honey. We also provide teas, coffee, milk and fruit juice. Use of washing machine, dryer and larger fridge/freezer in laundry outhouse.
We are 8 miles from Exeter and 10 miles from Moretonhampstead, "The Gateway to the Moor". There are many excellent walks nearby and Haldon Forest is 8 minutes away with its many cycle tracks. There is a choice of excellent pubs locally. 9 minutes from the A38 and 12 minutes from the A30.
  • Absolutely beautiful cosy little cottage. Plenty of privacy with an amazing view. The little bed by the old oven was fantastic and my daughter loved it. The adult bed was really comfy, too. Fab shower, with fluffy towels. And you have a choice of family DVDs to play, as well as a selection of books and magazines. The surrounding area is gorgeous as well; very picturesque. A great escape from the current panic.

  • The Old Bakehouse is a compact but comfortable place to stay - just as listed. Ben and Libby are great hosts and they provide those little extras such as cereals, bread and eggs for breakfast which are particularly welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the opportunity to explore the area.

    Anthony2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the old bakehouse, it exceeded our expectations, it is cosy but there is enough space to stretch out, the bed is extremely comfortable and the views from the bed are beautiful. It is really peaceful and we had 2 great nights sleep, we took our small dog with us and Ben and Libby were very accommodating, they provided us with walk suggestions and we went on a lovely walk up the Teign river and the daffodils were out in full force! we had dinner and lunch and two lovely local pubs The Nobody Inn and The Manor Inn - the food was delicious and they allowed our dog Doris in as well :-) All in all I would highly recommend staying in this lovely bakehouse. Kind regards Harriet

  • What a wonderful cottage, set in a beautifully peaceful part of Devon. The cottage had everything we needed and so nice to have some of the basic provisions ready for us on arrival. We spent the weekend walking on Dartmoor, and this cottage was an ideal and cosy base. Thoroughly recommend it.

  • A warm welcome and beautifully clean. A great location for exploring the nearby woods. Don't expect to cook a big meal as the kitchen is very compact, but it is beautifully clean and well equipped, and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice touches left for us by the hosts.

This luxury, spacious garden studio is hidden away in a private, leafy and secluded walled garden, screened off by beautiful trees and shrubs. It is in a friendly, quiet suburb of the city, just 2/3 mins walk from the nearest train station, bus stop, shop, cafe and takeaway, and about 1.5 miles from the city centre. An ideal base for a city break, or from which to explore the beautiful Devon coastline (25 mins drive to Exmouth and the famous Jurassic Coast) or the spectacular wilds of Dartmoor.
Accessed via a garden gate at the end of the driveway, the studio enjoys its own lawn, patio area (with chairs and table available) and two fixings under the flyover roof for suspending a hanging chair (also provided). The large bi-fold doors glide across to open up almost the entire frontage to the private garden if desired. The beautiful wooden floor in the main room enjoys underfloor heating, and a stunning log burner sits on a brick plinth at one end. In the bathroom are a shower, sink, mirror, toilet, and heated towel rail.
Two nearby parks (Hamlin Road Playing Fields, 2 minutes walk away, and the beautiful Heavitree Park, about 8 minutes walk away). Eating out within walking distance: 1 cafe and 2 takeaways (Chinese, Fish & Chips) all near Polsloe Bridge train station (2 minutes walk).

  • A perfect little bolt-hole, super handy for the M5 and within reach of central Exeter. The log burner is an amazing touch, and there's a cute little bathroom and underfloor heating too. Finished to a lovely standard, and you can just pull the curtains, drink wine, and hide from the world. Thanks!

  • Lovely welcoming host, catered to our needs, happy for the children to stay. My daughter loved staying in the quaint little lodge. Some thoughtful touches too, kid friendly cereals and chocolate croissants, torch by the door. Had fresh supply of milk and water each day, made sure we were ok without interfering with our stay. Allowed to come and go as we pleased. Overall good value for money for a weekend stay.

Our hand made bespoke camping cabin offers travellers a unique camping experience. A private location well away from the hassle and bustle of day to day life. Camping but without the fuss of pitching your own tent. The cabin is well insulated and heated with a toasty logburner. Inside is a bench and table set up which will comfortably seat four people, a sofa, a small cooking stove, a kettle and a double bed upstairs.....
It's a bespoke camping cabin made in my workshop over the winter. Fairly large inside with a built in double bed mezzanine floor. Guests will need to being bed sheets, pillows, sleeping bags, duvets etc to make up the bed area. The cabin is well insulated and keeps toasty warm with the wood burner going. If stocked up, it will burn right the way through the night keeping you warm the following morning. The cabin comes with wood for the first night and further wood can be purchased as necessary if given a days notice. A fire pit area is located at the front of the cabin which is perfect for roasting marshmallows in the evening. Inside the cabin is a double sofa and a large table and bench dining area. Fold up camping beds are available to accommodate extra persons. Max occupancy is 4 unless discussed beforehand. Located within a 20 acre field away from the hussle and bustle, but with the benefit of good phone coverage and only a stone throw away from the M5, A30, A38 and Exeter. Please note that the cabin is not connected to an electricity supply. Guests generally keep phones etc charged in their car. A portable shower is located behind the sofa. Guests are required to being bedding. I.e. Sheets, duvet, pillows or sheet and sleeping bag. Other suggested items to being include: bottled water, cutlery, plates, fire starters or newspaper, torches and marshmallows for the fire pit outside.
You don't have any neighbours. You are off the beaten track. BUT, you can drive into central Exeter in approximately 8 min. Only a few min from the M5 or A30. A great location if you are traveling through to Cornwall.
  • Perfect for an escape. We live locally and just wanted a night away without having to pitch a tent in the looting rain.

  • A nice cosy retreat in a very out of the way location, although the instructions provided are excellent and we found it with no problems. It is *very* basic but comfortable. Recommended if you like the idea of camping but not the practicalities of putting a tent up!

  • A fantastic little getaway, perfect for privacy and relaxing. James has made a perfect place which has everything you might need and more.

  • Great little place! Like camping but more homely and nice and warm with the wood burner for winter. Had a brilliant time and loved the style of the self-built cabin.

    Elizabeth2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy little place! Sleeping area is a little small so might not be great if your not a fan of small spaces! We loved the log fire and would love to stay again in the summer!

    Ellie2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Top notch, everything we expected and more. There’s no problem keeping warm so long as you can light a fire. Would certainly stay again

    Adam2019-11-24T00:00:00Z

  • Peter and Lynne were incredibly welcoming. I booked. At very short notice and they were quick to come back and confirm. They kept in touch with me during my journey giving me directions when I got lost! Their home is beautiful, so many thoughtful touches and very comfortable. My stay was short, however I get the impression that nothing would be too much trouble and they will definitely be my first choice the next time I stay in the area. Thank you both!

Recently featured on ‘The Culture Trip’ blog as one of the ‘TOP TEN FAIRYTALE CASTLES’ to stay in on Airbnb! Check out the Culture Trip website to read their amazing review on our home. Our home is a stunning section of a Victorian mansion house. With huge entertaining spaces and magnificent views out to sea. Enjoy time in luxurious surroundings in a beautiful part of the country. contact me for special deals as prices change depending on the time of the year. High season exceptions apply.
PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ACCEPT 2 NIGHT BOOKINGS DURING HIGH SEASON, FROM JULY-SEPTEMBER. Totally unique 3 storey section of grand mansion with large enclosed gardens Lots of original features Open fire in the sitting room 2 large flat screen TVs bedrooms spread over three floors for extra privacy ideal for families and couples off road parking spaces lots of local activities: golf courses, fishing, walking, seaside activities etc. AMAZING views Famous former residents; Vivien Leigh & Laurence Olivier. recently renovated with new heating system & roof. Decorated for Christmas Large garden Views Full use of section of house Original roll top bath Close to the sea and Dartmoor Quaint English seaside town Lots of excellent restaurants Traditional pubs Easy access to Exeter and Plymouth Excellent public transport; we have a mainline railway station less than 1/2 mile down the road and there are also excellent bus links. Passenger ferry across to the fishing village of Shaldon (the oldest ferry route in the British Isles). MINIMUM OF 3 NIGHT STAY. All damage must be paid for. Any extra cleaning charges will also be taken from deposit. Double doors lead out to a fenced off area of a large garden. Lots of local shops in Teignmouth town along with pubs and restaurants and takeaways. There is a Waitrose supermarket in town and about 1 mile away is a Morrisons supermarket. Mainline train station is a five minute walk away from the property and there are lots of different bus routes from town that take you to Exeter, Plymouth and Dartmoor. The previous owners of this house had massively neglected it and let it fall into a terrible state of disrepair - it was pretty much derelict when we bought it. It had no staircase, water, electricity or gas supply. The roof let in approximately 40 litres of water every time it rained and the windows were all rotten. Over the last 9 years we have lovingly restored it - replaced the rotten windows; had a new roof (and insulation!) fitted, a new heating system has been installed and we have tastefully decorated with colours representative of the era it was built. We've given the house a little bit of dignity back. It's an on going project though so please take into consideration it's not a modern, double glazed property and you might feel a draught here and there!
We're a five minute walk from the beach and the town centre; as we're located on the top of a hill, we have the most magnificent views out to sea, estuary and the moors. It's an idyllic location and a beautiful house.
  • Absolutely amazing place to spend a few days. I arranged a trip with a few friends and this place is perfect! Really big space to enjoy and chill out in. Loads of lovely touches to the castle, and very comfortable too. Easy to get to and the location is fantastic from the station. Teignmouth itself is a really nice place, some really nice restaurants and pubs around too. The castle was very clean and very spacious, the only real dilemma you’ll have is whether to spend your time in the huge kitchen or living area :). I’ll be back for sure, thanks again Rosalyn. Your hospitality was excellent!

    Sandeep2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rosalyn's Folly is a beautiful place with plenty of books, games, space and a ton of great kitchen equipment - although only 1 chopping board - which can be a problem if you're cooking for 8! Check-in process was great with a key lockbox, and communication with Rosalyn was a breeze. It is important to reiterate to future visitors that this is just one section of the whole castle shown in the photos and despite this having enough room to sleep maybe 9 people, there is only one bathroom (with an extra toilet downstairs - outside). This wasn't a problem for us, however, and it was worth it. The location is fantastic and the view from the kitchen and some bedrooms is incredibly beautiful since you're up a hill and can see the bay. It's located in a residential area, surrounded by houses and you can easily walk in to town. Overall, a great stay in a cool castle!

Converted as an industrial warehouse, Bodgers is a 17th century boat house that has been re-furbished in a retro industrial loft style. Bulthaup kitchen, luxury bathroom, fireplace, opposite the river Exe and next to all the best pubs and eateries.
Totally unique space in Devon. Done out as an industrial style loft space with exposed metal trunking, high ceilings, air management systems and lots of glazing. The floors are basalt, the kitchen is wardrobe style Balthaup B2. The bathroom has a £7000 luxury bath, totally open wet room shower and Bisazza wall coverings. This place is perfect for young couples who want to be in the heart of Topsham's eating and drinking whilst directly opposite the water. The second bedroom has a truckle bed system that can either be 1 or 2 singles or join to make a double. There is a glass garage in the lounge with a classic Porsche as art. If you are style conscious or love food and wine - there is nothing like it in Devon! BTW Virgin Tivo box and 100MB internet access is free. I have also been asked by a guest to mention that the bedrooms have windows for light but no external windows.
What's not to love! Beautiful estuary town with loads of history as a Dutch trading point. Great walks, fantastic estuary, huge choice of great restaurants and pubs. Exeter is only 10 minutes away (into the centre).

A large single room airy and light. Small double bed. The room is in a Victorian Terraced house. It is part of my family home. The house is within walking distance to the City and all local amenities. The University is close by, we have had predominantly students, who either walk or cycle. It is residents parking from November 2019. There is some free overnight parking nearby. There is cereal and toast available in the kitchen for breakfast on a help yourself basis, storage for other food.
You share other amenities as part of our small welcoming family, that's myself and my daughter. If I don't have what you need I will do my best to get it!
We are on the Bus and Train route to the City, but its only a 10 minute walk. The local area has some Pubs and small corner shops. A supermarket is only 15 minutes away in any direction.

Overnight parking is directly outside the flat and is free- during the day there are roads nearby where free parking is available.

Our cosy house is tucked away in Taddyforde Estate - a quiet haven within a Conservation Area. Located just 5 minutes from St David’s railway station, 10 minutes from the University and a 15 minute walk from town, we are ideally situated for a visit to Exeter. We have hosted many visitors over the years in our former house and now find ourselves with an empty spare room - perfect for b & b !
We have a lovely double room with views over the garden and beyond. The bathroom is shared . You are welcome to make hot drinks (but not food preparation please) in the kitchen and use the dining room and garden. We like to keep the sitting room to ourselves and our dog Alfie!
We are situated in a very quiet and unique spot - lots of green trees and yet so near the station, University and the city centre.

En suite shower, toilet and sink. Easy access from front door, and lockable room. 5 minute walk to the seafront, train station and the town. Bus Stop nearby. This is a double bed for 1 or 2 persons.
The bed is a comfortable double, with cotton bedding, anti allergy pillows. Clean towels. Hospitality tray with tea/coffee and biscuits. Teignmouth is a popular sea-side resort, hosting live music weekends throughout the summer. There are many modern cafe's, bars and restaurants, which serve a variety of tastes including vegan, dairy and gluten free options. The town has The Pavilions Theatre and Cinema complex, a Lido pool, and a long sandy blue beach award 2019. There is also an indoor swimming pool nearby. Teignmouth is within easy reach of Dartmoor national park, Exeter, Torbay English Riviera, and the rolling hills of The South Hams. There is a good cycle route, with challenging terrain, and popular cycling events such as the Moor to Sea. Teignmouth also has a new Park Run set up on Saturday mornings.

Welcome to this small comfy room in our modern town house in this small Exe Estuary village in Devon, very close to station (15 mins by train to Exeter). Stop over while you walk/cycle the S.W. Coastal Path, visit Powderham Castle, see blue flag beaches, Dartmoor, Cornwall, watch the Exeter Chiefs or for work! There's plenty to see and do. The village has great transport links, a SPAR, chemist, pubs nearby, a farm shop+restaurant at Powderham. Also only 20 mins from Teignmouth and Shaldon.
The cozy double room, with a refreshments tray and Alexa, on the 2nd floor is comfortable and smaller than the other listed room. It's next to the large bathroom which is for your use and occupants of the other bedroom (if occupied). There's space for your luggage and clothes in the large wardrobe and a small table to work on. This room overlooks the Exe estuary, the railway line and road. You can see the ferry pier. The window on the landing gives you another lovely view. Free parking on driveway or nearby roads. Garage to lock your bikes up.
There is a church, 4 friendly pubs , a very friendly charity shop/café, a Boots pharmacy, a golf course in the village. The Exe Bike trail and SW coastal path run through. Two more lovely pubs are a pleasant 10 mins walk away in the very pretty Cockwood Harbour! Best to book these. There's a well stocked convenience store very close to the house and Sainsburys 10 mins by car. The Orangery Restaurant by the Farm Shop has lovely food till 5pm. Blue flag beaches across the river at Exmouth and Dawlish Warren. Other beaches are not far to drive to! There are plenty of off road walks up the River Exe towards Turf Locks and Double Locks towards Exeter. My favourite walk is through a wood and path to a Farmshop seeing deer, sheep and the Castle. There's a seasonal floating restaurant (booking essential) in the middle of the Estuary! Powderham Castle is very interesting and often has music festivals. There's direct access to the River Exe Bike trail. Let me know if you'd like information about hiring bikes, canoes etc. We love a Roast Dinner and can recommend a few place. Starcross is a great base.
  • Lovely, clean, tidy home & very welcoming. With breakfast, very accommodating & most important of all a comfortable bed with a great nights sleep. Certainly be returning when I’m in Devon next.

    Ian2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very good place to stay, in an unusual place too. Views across the estuary from one side of the house, nearby railway and main road and even the ferry, yet the other side of the house is still very quiet. Recommended!

Our house is close to town centre with lots of nice eateries, shops and pubs. It is 10 minutes from the beach and the Green with the river and exotic waterfowl. It would suit a single person on a short stay both for leisure or business. NO PETS. You will share our lovely spacious kitchen and our upstairs bathroom. The room also houses our book shelves, so happy reading.

Sue also had lots of recommendations as well as providing a map of Exmouth and leaflets of local trips, places of interest and great places to eat and see! We really enjoyed our time at Sue’s and would definitely recommend her Airbnb! It’s in a perfect location as well as a great nights sleep.

  • Warm and welcoming accommodation a stone's throw from Exmouth's town centre and long sandy beach. We stayed in the twin room on the ground floor which was sparkling clean with en-suite, comfy beds and range of hot drinks. No hesitation in recommending this AirBnB to anyone visiting Exmouth and the Jurrasic coast.

  • We had the most amazing overnight stay here...the photos don't do the place justice! It was bigger than we expected, and every part of it was absolutely stunning. It was spotlessly clean, had a well equipped kitchen, and was in a great position (close to Exeter for shopping, and in beautiful land which we would have explored had it been less stormy!). Julie was so hospitable despite our late arrival, and made us feel very welcome. We would 100% recommend it, and hope to go back again soon!

  • Beautiful location with an amazing hostess . Farmhouse with Arty Character and friendly cute farmhouse cat . Celia was so welcoming and came out into the night to look for me when my sat nav went awry . She ensured I knew my way to my son in Dawlish by being a guide and I can’t thank her enough for her excellent hosting skills . Awesome selection of organic herbal teas too . I would love to stay here again . Scenery is exceptional , very farmhousey but with a quirky Arty Style...

  • On a quiet street close to the City centre, this find was great value for money and everything I needed for my two-night stay. I was able to leave luggage in the communal living room prior to check-in. This room is immediately accessible through an external door on the ground floor and through a lockable internal door, which leads through to a fully equipped kitchen and utilities. The studio was spotless. 15-20 min walk from Exeter St. Davids. Very easy self-check out.

  • The best thing about Melbury House was the attention to detail. I enjoy cooking and having been away for a while, was finding eating out, tedious. To be able to cook in a well stocked kitchen was lovely. To play my music andcook, was heaven. My room, was much better than I'd hoped: I had private entrance, the ensuite had a very decent shower, heated mirror and fixed hairdryer with plenty of storage. The room itself had lots of storage: perfect for unpacking and feeling at home, good lighting, stylish touches, a kitchenette incl a microwave and hard flooring. Security was great and Graham was very accommodating when I arrived bruised and batteredon on my bike... Eager to help bring the bike into the room and rest it on old towels he'd fetched for me. The communal areas (dining, kitchen and lounge) were so inviting. Felt very plush and were a real boon. To rest in the evening on clean, great sofas, or chat with other guests in the kitchen made all the difference from simply staying in a full hotel and confined to a room. I felt, at home.

Leat Cottage is set in three acres of stunning Devon countryside. Completely separate from the main house, Leat Cottage is surrounded by spectacular views. The valley is home to herons, egrets, deer, pheasants, buzzards, kestrels, tawny owls, barn owls and badgers which are regularly seen (and heard) from Leat Cottage. It’s a little bit of rural heaven! It is less than two miles (45 mins walk) to Dawlish along pretty country lanes. We've had many guests who have happily relied on public transport to explore the South West during their stay. The cottage is situated close to the long stretching beach of Dawlish Warren, a classic seaside holiday resort and world famous for bird watching. Dawlish and Dawlish Warren offer all the amenities you would expect from a seaside town with the added bonus of secluded spots to hide away from the world and enjoy the sand dunes and view over the sea. Ask Adam about the good bass fishing spots! Just up the road Ashcombe Adventure Centre offers a range of outdoor activities such as quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Nearby Haldon Forest Park has an excellent range of mountain bike trails (plus bike hire), horse riding, Go Ape and a cafe - something for everyone. Teignmouth offers a Victorian pier, lido, play park, crazy golf and skate park all within easy reach of the beaches and town centre and only 15-20 minutes’ drive from Leat Cottage.
  • The cottage was exactly as described and completely clean. Sue left a couple of scones, cream, home made jam and a pint of milk. Very helpful. I went for a quiet week and it suited me perfectly. There is very little noise, just the owls at night and the occcasional car. The cottage was warm in a cold November, but the conservatory did get a little cool in the evenings. Also the rain on the plastic conservatory roof can be loud. But close the sliding door into the bedroom and all is quiet. Dawlish is a pleasant town with interesting independent shops. You can walk on the wall between the railway and the sea north to Dawlish Warren and the walk to Teignmouth is also interesting, partly on roads and partly on the sea wall.

  • A lovely cottage in the Dawlish country side. Sue and Adam are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

  • This is a great place to rest and read. Walking to Dawlish, a very pleasant little town, is relaxing exercise. Garden is amazing, nice morning stroll. Above all, Sue and Adam are truly warm hosts.

  • Adam & Sue own a clean and autonomous home. Sue greeted us in person with good humor and was very flexible about our arrival times which were a little later than originally planned. The house is located in the countryside (away from the lights of the city, ideal for enjoying the stars in the evening) but close to downtown Dawlish and the sea (about 5-10min by car). A parking space is available on site. Thanks to Adam & Sue for their welcome and kindness!

  • Very nice and bright cottage served by very small roads but in middle of the country side. Between sea side and Dartmoor park, it is the best starting point for beautiful excursions or simply a hermitage! Sue and Adam are very welcoming.

  • Adam and Sue's cottage is ideal for a relaxing holiday in the Dawlish area. The cottage is spotlessly clean and cosy. The location is very peaceful and ideal for star gazing on a clear night. Dawlish is about a forty minute walk along a quiet country lane. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, especially with thoughtful touches such as the cream tea on arrival with Sue's home made jam. Hope to return again in the future.

  • This is a gem in the Devon countryside. True unspoilt surroundings, very peaceful, no noise other than the birds and no light pollution at night. Close enough to local amenities but far enough away for peace and quiet. Sue and Adam were excellent hosts, very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The accomodation was very quaint and quirky and facing south, so very sunny and warm. Great value! Highly recommended.

  • Great host and location. The area is amazing. If you are looking to have a break from the busy city life this is the place for you. Really close to Dawlish and it's beautiful beaches. Highly recommended!!! :)

  • Robins Airbnb is a bit of a walking distance from the university but it’s worth it knowing your on route to a lovely quaint home, robin is lovely to chat with and helpful when loosing you way. The house has a lot of space and is quiet, if you need to study. The cleanliness is great and breakfast is supplied every morning with just the right amount of selection needed. Honestly can’t fault this Airbnb Would definitely recommend staying here

Welcome to the larger double room in our relaxing modern town house with beautiful views, close to the station 15 mins by train/25 mins drive from historic Exeter City. The seasonal Starcross Ferry and historic Powderham Castle are a short walk away.Stop by en route to Cornwall, walk/cycle the S.W. Coastal Path, visit local beaches, Dartmoor, and more! There's plenty to see and do in Devon and many many pretty places to explore using Starcross as a base.
This peaceful roomy double room has more space than the other room. It's quieter and very comfortable. The bathroom is for your use exclusively apart from when there are other guests. There's space for your luggage, and a small table to work on. Refreshments tray provided. AND an ALEXA! This room overlooks the cul de sac and the lovely hills are in the distance. The window in the hallway gives you superb view of the Estuary. FREE PARKING on driveway or street. Garage to lock bikes.
There is a church, 2 friendly pubs, a very friendly charity shop/café, a Boots pharmacy, a golf course in the village. The Exe Bike trail and SW coastal path run through. Two more lovely pubs are a pleasant 10 mins walk away in the very pretty Cockwood Harbour! Best to book these. There's a well stocked convenience store very close to the house and Sainsburys 10 mins by car. as is Dawlish, Teignmouth, Kenn and Exminster. Powderham Castle is very interesting and often has events. There's direct access to the River Exe coastal path. Let me know if you'd like information about hiring bikes, canoes etc. We love a Roast Dinner and can recommend a few place. Starcross is a great base.

  • Jan and Steve were the best hosts you could wish for. We really loved staying there. Unfortunately for us, it was just a quick stop on our way to cornwall. They made us feel at home and we hope to come back some day.
