  • It was a wonderful stay! Relaxing and fun. I would stay here again.

  • A Riverside Retreat was just what we were looking for a relaxing get away in the mountains. The house was very clean, up to date, had great amenities (bikes, hot tub, washer/dryer, etc.), and had spectacular views! It was quiet and very relaxing. I loved waking up every morning and drinking my coffee outside while listening to the river. Ken & Molly were great hosts. They were quick to respond to any questions that I had and were very complimentary. We will definitely be back to Index and A Riverside Retreat in the future!

  • Great!

  • This trip was absolutely FANTASTIC! The place was as described but the best part for me was the location. It is FAR from everything which is what we wanted. Plenty of hiking nearby. Bridal Veil Falls is a MUST! If you enjoy hiking, you will love everything about this trail. Outdoor Adventure is literally 3mins away and we went on an amazing whitewater rafting trip. The hospitality was second to none. They were extremely kind and sweet. Aside from that, Ken and Molly recommended a stellar Tarot Card Reader that is from Index and is very reasonably priced (just $1 per card - average of 15 cards pp) and she spends about 20-25 mins reading your cards. There were a total of 5 ladies in our group. She came to the house and read all of our cards. It was a real treat! Especially for the price. Ken and Molly have everything you need for cooking. We made most of our meals at the house. The essentials are there: a wine opener (big must for our group!), pots, pans, silverware and even a fair amount of seasonings and oils for cooking. There's the ability to watch Netflix on the smart tv and plenty of board games and movies which we took advantage of. We also visited Leavenworth and decided to take a night out on the town and went to a little local bar called Bubba's Roadhouse. WE CLOSED THAT SPOT DOWN singing karaoke all night. It was a blast and a must if you are looking to do something fun and not drive all the way back to the city. It is definitely a dive bar but the people who work there are a ton of fun and if you like to sing and have a good time no matter the setting, you'll have fun at Bubba's. All-in-all, the group of ladies I traveled with all had a fabulous time together! Loved the table in the kitchen for drinking wine and sharing stories. Just a fun time all around! Thanks Ken and Molly for letting us use your home!!!

  • Accommodating hosts, great amenities, incredible location! Extremely comfy beds! I wish we could have stayed two weeks!

    Christina2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • The world class view from the Adirondack chairs on the porch attracted serious photographers all day long. Cozy blankets and cushy seating in the living room were so appreciated. I love the vintage style.

    Frances2019-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • I LOVED our stay at Ken & Molly’s. It was so nice to wake up and have coffee in the patio watching/listen to the beautiful river pass by. Their home is comfortable, stylish, and spacious. Loved the hot tub in the backyard as well as the fire pit. I definitely plan to stay at Ken & Molly’s home on a next Index, WA. Getaway!

  • This is a true treasure. It is exactly as described. The house is well equipped and provides for a very comfortable stay. The best part is the quiet nature of this unique little town with amazing views of the mountains and the river. When you are here you are truly away from it all. I highly recommend this location as an excellent place to stay. You will not be disappointed.

  • Very friendly folks, beautiful spot.

  • A friend had his wedding at the River House in Index, WA. The nearest hotels are in Monroe, which is 30-45 minutes away, depending on traffic. Most of the other properties on Airbnb are for cabins which do not make a lot of sense for a single traveler or a couple without kids. A Stone's Throw was perfect. It is a block or two from the River House venue. Lynn and David were excellent hosts. You basically have the upstairs to yourself, which consists of the bedroom, full bath, and a living room with tv and internet. Lynn also stocks the mini fridge with fresh breakfast snacks every morning. The description and photos were spot on. I was able to come and go without any issues. There are also many outdoor activities within minutes. I am not much of a hiker but I was able to do introductory hikes at nearby Heybrook Lookout and Heybrook Ridge. Lynn and David have lived in Index for decades and are happy to help you with activities, restaurants, etc. if you need it. Great trip!

    Jordan2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very quaint tiny town (pop 150), nowhere to eat or drink in town so load up enroute. Lynne’s place is unique, marvellous outside shower and beautiful interior which wouldn’t look out of place in little house on the prairie! Real people in a real American sleepy town. Loved it!

    Andrew2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous getaway at Lynn and David’s place. The space was clean and cozy with very thoughtful touches throughout. Lynn provided a fresh and delicious breakfast which was the perfect fuel for a breathtaking hike just steps from their back door. I will be missing that outdoor shower with a mountain view backdrop for a long time! Thanks for everything, we hope to visit you again!

    Leah2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Lynn's place is one of the most, if not the most, beautiful airbnbs I've stayed at. We had the entire upper floor of the house, so there's privacy, and an unbeatable view of the surrounding mountains. The town of Index is very peaceful and the location is great: surrounded by mountains and next to a beautiful river. Lynn and David have a very pretty garden that's very peaceful and a great place to relax and read. The provided breakfast items were a nice touch. Lynn and David were very welcoming and accommodating, offering tips about local activities and restaurants. David helped us fix a camera lens with a stuck hood. In summary, this is a great listing and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

    Abel2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed Lynn’s place as a quiet weekend escape. It was clean, quiet and we loved our private living room and the beautiful bathroom plus the views. Very peaceful.

    Stephen2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location with stunning views and an amazing garden. Very clean with an amazingly comfortable bed. Perfect place for a couple to stay to enjoy all the local activities from white water rafting, climbing and hiking.

  • Very clean & cozy place with nice view. David was very nice and easy o communicate. Would stay again for ski trip.

The cabin is a 400 sq. ft cedar cabin surrounded by about 400 sq ft of decking. A small kitchen, shower, toilet, wood stove, hot tub and river access make it a comfortable spot to put your feet up. Please note our rates are based on a minimum two-night stay - double occupancy. If you have a special need please ask before arriving us and we will endeavor to do our best to suit your circumstance.
Time here changes if you allow yourself to sit with the flow of the Skykomish passing through you. So . . . Unplug ! After spending a few days here we discovered that it truly was as if one “dropped off the face of the earth”. We would be remiss not to mention, this is Sasquatch country. Knock on a tree and see if you can get a knock back.
Just off Hiway 2 close to Index WA. Hiking, rafting, climbing, snow sports in the winter . . . We are IN the beautiful Cascades in a small community of cabin owners.
  • Liam’s space is amazing enough that I want to leave 1 star reviews just so scare people away and keep it all for myself. He’s a spectacular, responsive host and his space is literally perfect as a secluded hide away. Do yourself a favor and stay here.

    Cam2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing weekend at Liam's place. Communication was excellent. There were thoughtful touches and all the amenities you could want. Liam was incredibly accommodating and went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. The view from the back deck is amazing with a combination view of the Skykomish River and Mt. Index. I would recommend his place to anyone.

    Jeff2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is so special, and exceeded my expectations. The view and ambiance are just spectacular. I highly recommend it for a romantic weekend, or for solo travelers who just want to get away. Liam really goes above and beyond to make the guest feel welcome, and adds plenty of special touches that enhance the experience.

    Jessica2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Liam was a kind and considerate host who went the extra mile to make our stay excellent! He knew we were staying to celebrate my partner's birthday and when we arrived we were delighted to find a small cake and candles! We loved relaxing in front of the fire, watching the birds outside and relaxing in the hot tub - the cabin was so lovely and relaxing we ended up cancelling all of our other plans and only left once to stock up on groceries! I highly recommend this cabin to anybody who is looking to escape and unwind - absolutely perfect!

    Tessa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time unplugging from our daily lives, and relaxing in the hot tub by the river with views of snow capped mountains - ferns and moss galore! The power even went out one evening during a wild windy storm, but it made our trip even more special. (We were also surprised by how quickly the power company restored services for so many residents. Kudos to them too!) We joke that we can say we lived like the locals with that true cabin experience! And it was just another reason to cuddle up by the wood stove. So if you’re looking for a cabin in Bigfoot Country, don’t pass this one up! We had an incredible time and hope to visit again soon. Oh, and you’ll see some insanely gorgeous views on the road that leads to the cabin. So have your camera ready! Thank you again for being wonderful hosts, Liam and Heidi!

  • This cabin was the perfect Valentines Day getaway. Once I booked it, I told Liam why we were coming up and he went above and beyond to make sure we had a romantic setting for our unplugged and relaxing weekend. Will definitely be coming back!

    Christopher2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful weekend in Liam's charming, cozy little cabin. The view of the river and mountains while relaxing in the hot tub was spectacular. We will be back for sure!

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Aimee's cabin. The place was clean and attractive with all the necessary amenities. The view of the river and the surrounding mountains was just what I was looking for.

    Nathan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is super cozy and offers an amazing view of the river. It’s the perfect place to disconnect from the city, which is exactly what we were looking for. There is a train that goes by every so often, which didn’t bother us at all, but may disturb light sleepers.

    Melanie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Aimee's place made for the perfect home base for a weekend snowboard trip. The cabin is super stylish and homey, and set on a beautiful spot on the river. The kitchen had everything we needed for quick bites as well as cooking, and she is very generous to offer ample amounts of coffee! The cabin is squeaky clean, and Aimee provides you everything you need to clean up after yourself during your stay. These days it is very hard to find a place that allows a dog, so thank you Aimee for providing the perfect cabin for our family trip to Steven's Pass!

    Elijah2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Pros: What a place! We only live 1 hour away but wanted a kid free getaway. The design is so nice in the living room, hot showers, self check-in and the view from the patio is just beautiful! I can't imagine what it looks like in the fall. Grocery store down the street. 1 hour 15 minutes from Leavenworth. The drive to Leavenworth is worth it! Cons: You can hear the train go by. If you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs. I consider myself a light sleeper and was fine but it bothered my husband a little. I woke up each morning from the light that came through the windows. The shades are broken so extra light comes through in the AM. I'd stay here again. We've sent a link to this Airbnb to several friends.

  • Stayed here for the weekend to ski at Stevens Pass. Great location to access the mountain. The home itself is comfortable and the views of the river are fantastic!

The “Riverhouse” is located on the famous Cable Hole on the Skykomish River in the delightful neighborhood of Big Bend. This home has been in our family for thirty years. The Cable Hole is known for it’s light current where you will watch or can partake in swimming, floating, or steelhead fishing. There is a bald eagles nest 200 feet to the left of our property, where you can see the eagles grabbing fish out of the river. There are two mountain spring fed waterfalls across from our property. Our property has a large grassy backyard with a fire pit and direct access to the beach. The property also includes a hot tub, large sunbathing deck, BBQ, and an art studio with a pottery wheel and a paint studio for your inner artist. The Riverhouse is equipped with board games, Xbox, high speed Internet, Amazon Alexa, Roku, smart TV’s, Bose Bluetooth speaker and Netflix. It also includes two belt driven bicycles and one children’s bicycle. Big Bend is a nice paved community where jogging and riding bicycles around the neighborhood are enjoyable and encouraged. Helmets are included. The house has three bedrooms and an addition with a futon bed. It comfortably sleeps six people. The master bedroom has a king size bed. The second bedroom has a full size bed. The third bedroom has a twin size bed with a large architecture desk for your laptop or work needs. There is a cedar filled master bathroom with a soaking tub. The main bathroom has a large shower. Big Bend is a private neighborhood with two private parks. The first park has a sandy beach where Proctor Creek runs into the Skykomish River. It’s one of the best swimming and sun tanning beaches on the river. The second park has a basketball court, swings and a merry-go-round. All dogs are welcome with an additional pet deposit of thirty dollars. I am always accessible to you if you have any questions. You can call anytime, day or night. We are excited to share our family retreat with you. Enjoy! When you’re visiting the Riverhouse there are two places that you’ll want to make destinations to eat. The Sultan Bakery has wonderful breakfast and lunch & is known for their donuts. Zeke’s Drive Inn is located across the highway from Big Bend and is easily walkable from the Riverhouse. The Drive Inn is famous for their burgers and shakes. https://www.facebook.com/OfficialZekesDriveIn https://www.yelp.com/biz/sultan-bakery-sultan-2 As a native to Gold Bar I would suggest these hikes. There are a lot hiking trails to chose from, but these four hikes are easily accessible and my favorite. Taking a guided horseback riding tour alongside the river is one of my favorite activities. Alpine Adventure is the best for guided river rafting tours. In July and August, search Big Bend for low land huckleberries and blackberries. They are plentiful. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/heybrook-lookout Heybrook Lookout is a short and moderately steep hike through a fern and moss covered forest to a fun, staircase-ridden lookout with great views of the nearby mountains. If you are introducing someone to hiking, limited on time, or trying to add on another hike or activity in the area, this is the hike for you. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/barclay-lake The 2.2-mile trail to Barclay Lake starts directly from the parking lot, heading east-southeast through an area that has recovered from clear-cut status. For most of its course, the trail follows the path of Barclay Creek, which is tucked into a narrow valley between Gunn and Merchant Peaks to the north and Baring Mountain to the south. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/wallace-falls And unlike many trails, which sacrifice peripheral scenery on the journey for the prospect of a grand summit view, the Woody Trail is consistently gorgeous as you wind your way along the Wallace River and approach the nine dazzling falls. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lake-serene Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls compete for attention on this trail. Either would be a worthy destination by themselves and combined they are a great day on the trail. From the parking lot, where a Northwest Forest Pass is required, the trail follows an old road bordered by towering salmonberry bushes and deciduous trees. The berries ripen in early to mid June and the best ones are found high above your head. http://www.skylandranch.org Skyland Ranch is directly across the Cable Hole from the riverhouse. The ranch has been operating for more than twenty years. It provides hourly horse rentals all year every day except Tuesdays. http://www.alpineadventures.com/skykomish.html#family Alpine Adventures offers guided whitewater rafting trips & scenic raft floats. This easy floating section of river on the "Skykomish River" provides an opportunity to experience the wonders of nature. The looming presence of Mt. Index rising nearly 6,000 ft. from the valley floor reminds you that you're in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. We often see wildlife along the river and share fun and interesting facts as the guides help to put the whole alpine forest ecosystem into perspective. The trip starts at Big Eddy State Park and is a beautiful leisurely ride downstream to Sultan. From there you'll ride back to our Outpost in Gold Bar on the Alpine Adventures shuttle. The trip is roughly four hours long.
  • Thanks for being so open with your awesome home. Provides you a little of everything great about the area, art, the river, beautiful views, hot tub that’s easy to use, large deck, fire pit, super friendly neighbors who were delightful and pet friendly. Larger space than I expected and had lots of personal touches which made the experience better in our opinions :) great communication with lyss. Would definitely stay again in the future.

  • Wonderful, peaceful setting along the river with tranquility being a premium. The house has all the comforts of home and Alyssa is a wonderful host. Awesome view from the deck on the back of the house of cloud encased mountains, and the peaceful sound of the river passing by....viewed a formation of Canada geese that flew just above the water just above head high....just a great location.

Featuring a washer/dryer (with soap!) for cleaning your adventure-wear, a covered front porch for your boots and gear, and a full kitchen for preparing a hearty breakfast to start your day, the cottage makes it easy to enjoy all that the area has to offer - no matter what your activity choice! Cottage includes 1-bedroom with comfy queen bed, living room with couch and armchair, kitchen with microwave/refrigerator/oven/stovetop/dishes/cookware/coffee maker, 1 full bathroom accessed from the bedroom (with claw-foot tub/shower combo), washer/dryer, wireless internet, smart TV for access to your Netflix account, and local maps & guides for planning your adventures! A small bonus loft (accessible by ladder) provides a cozy space with 2 twin beds; this area is suitable for teens & adults comfortable with ladders and LOW ceilings. We are located in-town on a quiet road, but do sit near the railroad tracks (less than 1 block). The cottage is not far from where the Index train stop was located, and if train-watching is your thing then you've come to the right place.
The Index General Store just across the block has the basics. A school playground and the Town's Doolittle Park (with basketball court & covered shelter) are less than a block away. The River House Coffee Shop at The Outdoor Adventure Center is a great place to learn about local activities (and meet the locals!) while you grab a morning coffee, tea or trail snack. Trains! We are close to the railroad (1 block), so be prepared for a train whistle now and then.
  • Great place and very clean!

  • This was a gorgeous cottage in Index, a beautiful small town wedged in beautiful pass between the Mountains of the Cascades. Perfect stay for a small group. Highly recommend a walk around the town to see the towering Mountains.

  • Kathy was great with communication and we loved the accommodations!

  • Our host was extremely accomodating and helpful before and after our stay. You could go on the hike across the highway. Its not too hard and has good views. The cabin itself is super comfy and spacious and we felt at home right away. Check in check out was a breeze. If youre looking for a mountain getaway with that cabin feel this place is perfect!

    John2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy was super warm and hospitable. The place was clean and cozy but the upper loft room needs to be vacuumed. It looks clean, but my husband had breathing issues in the middle of the night. The place is costlier for the location, but it was sparkling clean and very well kept. You would love it for sure!

  • We went skiing at Stevens Pass for three days, this cabin in the woods was a great choice, has everything you need.

  • Alicia was great to work with - quick response, thorough and timely replies, eager to give insider tips and info. The cabin is a fine little basecamp for a few days of skiing or hiking or biking or climbing or whatever brings you to the Index area.

    Chad2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable & clean. Alicia was very quick with her responses even when I booked her place last minute.

    Jerry2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was pristine and very cozy! I booked for two nights but only stayed for one because the power went out due to some stormy weather. Alicia was very responsive when I let her know and she refunded me over half of the price for two nights! I will definitely book again if traveling in the area.

  • What a great place! Wonderful location, convenient to Stevens Pass and lots of area hikes and sites, but tucked away back in the woods and cozy. Super clean new kitchen with all the bells and whistles. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay to explore the mountains, and the hospitality was top notch!

    Sam2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Alicia is amazing, her home is much larger than expected, and in such a tranquil location! We spent 4 days up at Stevens Pass ski area, and the commute was simple. She provided advice to us about the mountain and what lists to use, local restaurants, local coffee spots, stores, and amenities. We had 5 people and 2 Dogs who will fit easily in this large space. We will be back, no doubt about it! The Kitchen is beautiful and the beds are very comfortable, as are the many couches!

    David2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as advertised, comfy cabin in a quiet neighborhood just outside index (with good wifi). About 30 mins from Stevens Pass. Hosts were accommodating and our stay was enjoyable.

  • Beautiful location for a weekend getaway. Easy access to the town of Index and to local hikes. We visited on a chilly weekend but the heating was sufficient to keep the place comfortable. Well stocked kitchen. The shower is much easier to use if you are short.

The pictures you see in our listing are what you will see from the deck, spa and from the windows of the cabin. As you read our consistent 5 STAR reviews, you will see the theme shows our pictures do not come close in showing the beauty and ambience of the cabin. Other places will show pictures of the area, a short walk or drive. You will be staying on the river and with some of the most breath-taking views, with all the sounds, smells and sites.
  • Bill had everything and more that you would ever need during your stay. He was super friendly and reached out to make sure we had everything as well as made sure we knew he was available if we had any questions. The property was beautiful and well worth the trip.

  • Amazing stay across the board. Phenomenal location. Great hikes were within 5min! Food within 10 if you want to eat out. Amazing coffee .5 miles away too. But if you want to stay in, Bill has you covered with everything needed in the cabin. Can't wait to come back!

    Josh2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place was exactly what we were looking for for a short getaway from the city. Incredible views of the mtns and river, super clean spacious hot tub, adorable insides and kitchen full of utensils and cookware. Bill was super fast to respond when we had a question, and very pleasant! We definitely will be back again! Beautiful home!

    Kate2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn’t recommend more highly. Cozy space, phenomenal location, easy to get to, unbelievable view, nice amenities. I’ll definitely be back.

    Kyle2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome! As others have mentioned, photos don't do the view justice!! Bill has thought through so much in preparing for folks to visit his cabin. The fireplace (firewood was provided) was relatively easy to operate due to the great instructions and was a lovely part of the visit. One suggestion/heads up is that there isn't a table to sit at. We were planning to play some board games, but didn't have a good spot to do so. That would be one improvement, is to even have a fold out table and chairs stored in the storage shed in case someone wants to have a poker night or something. There was ample seating, and comfy couches, lazy chairs, bar stools, tons of seating outside (but it was raining). Very comfortable overall, clean, homey, etc. What a great place to get away!

    Jacob (Joey)2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Beyond our expectations. Breath taking beauty. Worth driving a little out of the city to stay in the Swiss Alps. We were just up the road from Stevens Pass Ski Resort. Awesome day trip. The hot tub is set on a deck with a rushing river below to listen to all night and gorgeous Mountain View to enjoy all day. Beautiful cabin with all the amenities. Between the cozy fireplace, the hot tub and breath taking scenery we never wanted to leave our place. Bill, you were top notch!! We will brag about this trip all over Facebook ❤️

    Bryan2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Bills place was a fantastic location for Stevens Pass ski resort - would love to see it in the summer when the salmon would be running!!

  • Great place with truly remarkable views. Amazing escape.

  • Micheles home is the perfect place to get away. Instructions on how to get there and where to park made our trip very easy. The house was very cozy and had everything we needed to bbq burgers. The view was amazing, words can’t describe just how beautiful it was so you will have to look for yourself. My pups loved being here, there’s a fully fenced yard so they are able to run and there’s also a private access to the river that just will blow you away. We will definitely be back, we felt very welcomed by Michele. Thank you !!

    Julie2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • The view was beautiful and the home was fully stocked and clean. Michele was incredibly communicative and responsive to questions. We enjoyed our stay here!

    Mandi2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • This is the best Airbnb we have stayed at that is near the North Cascades. Michele is truly a great host and welcoming. You can tell she makes sure that her guests feel at home, comfortable, and peaceful when they stay at her place. The view of the river and the cascades are just spectacular. You can practically see the cascades on a clear sunny day right from inside the house. When you're outside, you can hear the tranquil sounds of the river and chirping birds. You will also see kayakers kayaking at the river. We love this place and will be coming back for sure.

    Alicia2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beyond fantastic! I highly recommend it. The view from the hot tub, from the deck, and from inside the house is absolutely stunning. Everything from the mattress, to the blankets, to the headed bathroom floors, to the couch, was perfect and very cozy. I didn't want to leave! This was a perfect place to get away, unplug, and relax.

    Colleen2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, amazing location! Basically a Xanax in a home. Pictures don’t do this place justice; beautiful river, outstanding views, and tons of places to get off the highway and play down by the river. Host is phenomenal and thorough, even went out of her way to give me medicine due to my back being thrown out the day before. That being said, ask about the IR sauna, you won’t regret it. Just save yourself a doctors visit due to your blood pressure and come out here.

    Clara2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little house right on the water. We had everything we needed and could tell that Michele has been very thoughtful about the furnishings, amenities, and upgrades she's made to the house for guests' comfort. It was perfect for a relaxed girls' weekend.

    Cat2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This stay was outstanding. I could go on and on however nothing can explain how amazing the view is. We can’t wait to come back when the weather is warmer. I could be out on that deck day and night. Well actually we were...even in the cold!

My place is only an hour from Seattle. You’ll love it because its a private, boutique, reclaimed, 1950's fishing hot tub cabin with 4.5 acres to play in the woods, on the grass field, and in the river.. It is great for couples, families (with kids), big groups, weddings, and furry friends (pets). We proudly donate proceeds to The Sierra Club and Forterra (saved Lake Serene Trail) for fighting to keep our beautiful wild places healthy and happy.
This newly-updated fishing cabin built in the 1950s is begging for you to come relax, unplug, and let your stresses float away on the North Fork of the Skykomish River. Take a soak in the covered hot tub perched over the river and gaze upon the famous Index Town Wall as bald eagles look for steelhead in the waters below. The cabin features a custom kitchen counter top made from reclaimed Teredo Clam Wood boards and river boulders. There is a full sized fridge, apartment sized range, retro microwave, coffee maker, and selection of all the basic kitchen supplies. Grill your favorite dish on the Webber propane BBQ after a long day on the slopes - Steven’s Pass Ski Area is 30 minutes away - or hiking, fishing, or tubing on the wild river. The master suite is donned with reclaimed wood walls, a full sized bed, and a brand new 40" TV & smart Blueray/DVD player. The connecting bathroom has a custom stone rain shower, including a river cobble stripe with a 50 million year old fish fossil smiling at you while hot water beats down on your head. The second sleeping area is in the common living room and is outfitted with a queen sized bed and a twin sleeper sofa (linens, mattress cover, and pillow in side table, comforter in wicker basket if needed). This property (The Pietsch Pit) is gated and is THE last house on the secluded dirt road. If you want to get away and unplug this is truly a spot for you. Located steps from the river you will follow the fishing trail down to the world famous Skykomish to fish for Steelhead (WA State Fish) and Dolly Varden trout in the honey hole directly in front of the cabin! The river can be a little cold, but no worries -- jump into your private, covered hot tub to soak away the chill and hash over your battles with the Steelhead that you and your friends are about to enjoy. The hot tub is perched under a log structure formerly used to store horse supplies, like hay and feed. It faces the great Index Town Wall, which attracts rock climbers from all over the world. This sheer granite cliff is part of the Index Granite Batholith which also hosts hang gliders who are brave enough to test old man gravity! Soak your bones in your private tub while you try to spot a climber halfway up the wall and turn down the bubbles so you can listen to the soothing hum of the river below. The property sits on an acre field of grass with dozens of evergreen trees scattered about. Kick a ball, throw a Frisbee, play croquet, or toss a horse shoe in the custom cedar log pits. Run freely in the fields of the Tire Swing Cabin and don’t forget to have a fire in the river boulder fire pit riverside. The town of Index is 0.2 miles away by foot or car; only 2 rapids by kayak! There is a general store in Index with basic supplies, wine, and beer, but most significant grocery runs we do in Monroe, WA, about 20 minutes west, toward Seattle. In town, be sure to check out the Outdoor Adventure Center. They offer world class rafting and kayaking, serve an amazing selection of great micro brews (mainly in 22oz size), and have big TVs that often are tuned to the Seahawks on game day. There is also a small, but notable, gift shop in town called Ellie & Clarence, featuring works by local artists. In fact, they have a selection of the jewelry that I make! They are open Saturday & Sunday 11am-3pm. This is a unique property at the end of a road, 30 minutes from Stevens Pass Ski area, and steps from one of the last wild rivers in this country. We hope that you enjoy your stay!

  • Beautiful cabin with great communication from the host!

    Kelsey2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We happened to visit this cabin at the worst time imaginable. A snowstorm hit the day we flew into Seattle for our honeymoon and started driving to the cabin, so it made it very difficult to find. BUT in all the weather trouble the host was very helpful. Be sure to follow his personalized directions and not Google maps. The service is super spotty in the mountains. Then due to the weather a tree fell on the power lines and we lost power within our first night. Not the host’s fault at all, and he was more than accommodating for the circumstances we faced. We ended up leaving early due to the weather but we really wished we could have stayed. The cabin was very clean, super cute, cozy, and with an amazing view too. Would recommend as long as the weather isn’t horrible.

    Delaney2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was perfect for a ladies getaway after the holidaze. The river and the hottub were revitalizing, the cabin was cozy, and the kitchen was great. We would have stayed longer of we could have!

Come stay at Cedarstone Riverhouse and be immersed in a wondrous natural sanctuary, surrounded by towering trees, stunning mountain peak views, and a flowing river right in your back yard! This cozy cabin has modern amenities to keep you comfortable, yet rustic charm that will whisk you away to simpler times where days consist of relaxing in the hot tub with friends, sipping tea while wildlife watching and catching up on a good book by the fire.
Just an hour from the noise and lights of Seattle, guests will find themselves in a mountain paradise when retreating to this charming 750 square foot cabin. The main space features an open floor plan between the living, dining and kitchen area with large windows looking out toward the Skykomish River. Two bedrooms (one with a KING bed) provide comfortable sleeping accommodations for up to 4 guests, perfect for couples and small families. Hard wood and cork floors are ideal for our adventuring guests- and their pets! Whimsical details like the gorgeous hand carved wood hutches and antique taxidermy wall mounts are reminiscent of an Olde World hunting cabin. SO MANY AMENITIES! While the setting feels a world away, guests will have ample options for modern amenities: Satellite TV, Wi-Fi, Netflix, video games, DVD library, games, landline telephone, washer/dryer, dishwasher (NO ONE wants to hand wash dishes while you're on vacation!)- there's even a towel warmer for those colder months. In addition to electric heating, you'll have the option to release your inner woodsman and build a crackling fire, OR cut straight to the ambiance with the gas fireplace. The best features here are those that help guests enjoy nature's displays: the hot tub is set right out the back door on the covered deck with a fully automated spa system to ensure a clean and safe spa experience every soak. The deck and hot tub look out across the 1/4 acre lot towards the Skykomish River- watch the awesome rapids in the rainy seasons and take the easy to navigate stair access to fantastic swimming and water fun in the summer. Out the front door you'll see Mount Index towering above - arguably the most stunning peak in Stevens Pass. It is not uncommon to see Eagle's soaring, Steelhead swimming, or black bears foraging in our neck of the woods.  Cedarstone Riverhouse is ideally located to all the area's best recreation too! Stevens Pass Mountain Resort is just under 40 minutes away, with both winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing), and spring/ summer activities (downhill bike trails, hiking, and lifts open for incredible views and nature watching). • If you want a place tucked away to rest and relax, this is your spot. It really is right on the creek and there is a deck where you can kick back and enjoy nature and the water. The beds are really comfortable and check in was really easy to do. The place is small but quaint and was plenty of space for 3 adults. We'd visit again... it's a special place!

The river is at your fingertips and you are surrounded by the mountains. Watch eagles over dinner, enjoy a campfire and wake up to the sound of the waves. The Skykomish Valley has a bit of everything - beautiful hikes, and waterfalls, white water rafting, some of the best fishing in the country. Whether an adventure or just a relaxing mountain getaway, this is your place. It feels like miles from home, but it is close enough for peaceful weekends or extended stays. Rustic, cozy and riverside.
The cabin meets every expectation of a mountain getaway. Whether it is the hand made river rock chimney or cedar walls and ceilings, it is rustic and cozy. The hand made queen bunks are unique. A morning coffee or sunset campfire on the river make it ideal to relax and get away. For indoor time, the kitchen is fully stocked with all the tools and utensils you may need, plus spices and sundries. If the liquid sunshine keeps you indoors for a bit, there are games and a big selection of movies available. The property is strictly no smoking.
Big Bend is a mix of vacation properties and full time residents. It is a private community. The neighborhood beach is great for picnics and time in the water.
  • This cabin is a little piece of heaven! Right on the river with a view of mountains, packed with games, movies, tons of cooking supplies, and comfy beds, we couldn’t have been happier.

Quiet getaway nestled in the Cascades close to hiking and Steven's pass.
Nice big back yard with fire pit and front yard has a horseshoe pit.
    A quiet private riverside community.
  • The cabin was bigger than I thought. Upstairs had a master with a kitchen and 2 tables. Downstairs had 2 rooms, bathroom, and living room. The backyard was a view of the mountains and a river that is very shallow. Fire pit and hot tub was awesome for us. We had 2 couples and 2 toddlers with us. Great cabin for parents who want to put their child to sleep and stay up and play! We had a wonderful time and hopefully will be back soon!

  • This charming and comfortable home in the woods offers a chance to unplug, unwind, and enjoy yourself. Located just far enough outside of town to feel "away" and close enough to pick up supplies if you need them. There is no cell service and no WIFI, which is exactly what we wanted. The home is perfectly clean and well stocked with all the essentials, beautifully decorated, quiet and comfortable. Communication with our host was prompt and the whole experience was smooth and positive. Will return in the future!

  • Bud and Beth were so helpful in accommodating us when a winter storm passed thru a few days before our trip and the original cabin we rented lost power. They arranged for our group to stay in some of their other cabins and we ended up having a lovely weekend. All their cabins are cozy and well stocked. We appreciate Bud and Beth so much and hope to return again soon :)

Epic year-round Cascade Mountain adventures are just minutes away such as Skykomish River white water rafting, world-class hiking and Stevens Pass downhill snow and bike sports. Deep in the woods on the Skykomish River but just over an hour from Seattle, Ephemeris Cottage is perched looking out towards a vast sky of stars. Aptly named from the astronomical charts used to track the paths of planets, this cozy one-bedroom cabin is a truly heavenly retreat. Lush greenery, dazzling river rapids, and an abundance of local wildlife surrounds this charmingly rustic getaway where you can star gaze late into the night. Upon arrival, guests will feel a world away in this private 780 square foot cabin. A spacious covered porch overlooks the stunning river view, and easy river access in the warmer months leads you to a calming river bank where you can sit back and watch the local wildlife go by, along with the occasional train across the river. A large master bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, and simulated fireplace lighting easily sets a quiet and romantic mood with the flip of a switch. Another queen bed in the loft area (ladder access!) can comfortably accommodate another two guests, making this a perfect retreat for small families or a few couples looking to get away from it all. A propane "wood" stove is set in the corner of the spacious kitchen area, providing convenient warmth and ambiance in the colder months. The kitchen is equipped with everything you would need for a small group retreat including a wok, blender and hand mixer (please note, the oven is not full size but it is a four-burner stove). A four-person dining area is situated by a picture window for an incredible vantage point during your meals. The living space is ideally arranged to enjoy a free Netflix movie or Wii game play-off. Set on the Skykomish River in a private community, our guests enjoy the unique experience of crossing over the majestic Canyon Falls into the area, and are within 30 minutes of popular destinations such as Eagle Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Heybrook Tower and Scenic Hot Springs. Your local hosts have the best information on where to get off the beaten path, the best digs for eats, where to shop, and what to see. Come experience the Pacific Northwest and Cascade Mountains like the locals do at Ephemeris Cottage and you'll leave starry eyed and moon struck for more!
  • This warm, cozy cabin was in a perfect spot. The river and mountain views were amazing. I found the trains going by at the other side of the river charming. The cabin was stocked with everything I needed to cook and relax. I definitely would love to stay there again!

  • Beautiful views and a very clean cabin! We really enjoyed our stay. The gate to the neighborhood is a bit tricky and we got locked out for 40 minutes, late at night. No place to walk in the neighborhood but nearby hikes and skiing are great. No water pressure in the shower but hopefully they will resolve this. Relaxing place to stay with such a nice waterfront view!

  • This cabin was super cozy with an amazing view of the river and mountains. It was very clean and a great space to stay in. It was very rainy so we didn’t get many hikes in, but we didn’t mind since our cabin was such a wonderful place to stay.

  • Bud and Beth's place was wonderful, and the views are breathtaking. We lucked out and got a day of sunshine, and the view of the mountain is amazing. This is the perfect getaway location, and we greatly appreciated the quiet area. Index is such a cute little town and is a perfect place to recharge. We spent a lot of time in the cabin because the views were so perfect. Highly recommend!

Rising Sun Retreat is a remodeled home set on the banks of the Skykomish River with the stunning peaks of Mt. Index towering above. The spacious yard has a luxurious hot tub, an outdoor fire pit, propane grill, and is a perfect place for relaxing with friends and family or outdoor games. The 1000 square foot interior features a bright and spacious atmosphere, with an open living room and kitchen space, large master bedroom with a private balcony, and multiple decks.
We are a Seattle family and thrilled to share the Rising Sun Retreat with you. Our home boasts pine ceilings, fir floors, and a wood burning stove add to that authentic mountain cabin feeling, while stylish decor and modern amenities such as the flat screen TV make you feel right at home. Surrounded by cedars, firs and maples, Rising Sun Retreat offers a wonderful setting to hunker down with a loved one or a jumping off point for your outdoor pursuits. The cabin has a beautiful top story master bedroom with a queen size bed, and two twin beds off to the side in the main living area, accommodating up to four guests. Guests wanting to accommodate an additional two guests (sleeping a total of six guests) may reserve the detached bedroom by accessing the following airbnb listing: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/24988735. We listed this separately, as we want to make it available to our guests if they would like it, but also don't have to pay the premium if they don't need it. Please note, adding this bedroom to a reservation is only available to parties who have booked the entire cabin. We are not renting the detached bedroom to anyone who is not already occupying the main cabin. Additional highlights: Riverfront- The cabin is perched on riverfront property on the banks of the South Fork of the Skykomish River. Views of the river are spectacular from the cabin, either of the two decks, or the yard/ outdoor fire pit area. There is a short path directly to the river! Seclusion- The cabin is built along the banks of the river, with neighboring cabins to each side. While you can see these homes, the lush cover of the maples, firs, and cedars provide awesome privacy. Further, given the setting of the cabin (along a wild stretch of North Cascade River), you can feel quite secluded, even though it is still a short a drive into the town of Goldbar. It is the best of both worlds. Outdoor Fire Pit/ Indoor Wood Stove- There are no shortage of fires to be had at the cabin! In the winter, enjoy fires in the wood stove with dry pine that we supply out in the woodshed. In the summers, enjoy outdoor the outdoor fire pit surrounded with stumps and benches to sit on. Please plan to bring your own outdoor fire wood, as the wood in the each of the wood sheds is meant for indoor use only. Pets- Airbnb will quote you a specific price for your trip based on dates you select. If you plan to bring pets, please notify us, as there is an additional charge of $20 per pet/day for up to three pets. Pet policy is as follows: Pet's are not to be unattended in the house or the yard, owners must pick up droppings, and pets aren't allowed on the furniture. Please note: due to the shortage of toilet paper during the COVID-19 situation, we ask that guests bring their own toilet paper.
The Rising Sun Retreat is located in gated "neighborhood" on a gravel road along side of the South Fork of Skykomish River. There are great family cabins along this road. You can have the privacy of your river front cabin on one side, and if you want to interact with neighbors out for walks or a few kids riding their bikes, you can check out the main road.
  • This riverfront getaway was exactly what we needed to get out of the city and enjoy a quiet weekend. We walked down to the bridge with chasm under and it was amazing! Perfect weekend escape from Covid-19. Thanks for sharing this amazing little place!

  • The cabin was easy to find. Maps does a pretty good job but Michael's instructions made us feel more confident. The place has the basic amenities for the kitchen and bathroom. The wood fire really was the best heat source for the place so make sure you bring kindling. We really enjoyed the scenic location, for our relaxing weekend away from the city. I would recommend Michael's place if you're looking for a cute place to spend sometime in nature.

Downstairs is a river-view bedroom with a king-size memory foam bed and a large bathroom that includes a full-size washer and dryer. Upstairs are two more large bedrooms – one with a King-sized mattress and the other with a Queen-sized mattress - both with dormers facing the river and a shared bathroom. All three bedrooms have fluffy down duvets and touches that make each room unique. Between the upstairs bedrooms is a relaxing sitting room with a large window seat - a great place to reflect and connect with gorgeous views of the river and the forest beyond. This seating converts into twin XL beds for additional sleeping space for two guests. Beyond the charm of the cabin itself, what makes this inviting mountain escape truly special is its location. Set on 3.5 riverfront acres of gardens with walking trails and an orchard, the Timber Creek property has stunning, unobstructed views of Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest across the river, allowing for complete privacy during your stay. Designed with a slow pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy your stay no matter the time of year - making local pour-over coffee in the morning while watching for deer wandering by, choosing the perfect record as the sun sets, or relaxing by the river under a starry sky. Pick fruit in the orchard, build a snowman in the yard, dip your toes in the river, explore the extensive walking trails, photograph the gardens in a riot of springtime blooms, or simply sit back and enjoy the view. When you want to venture out, Stevens Pass is a quick 25-minute drive away, along with many other nearby outdoor pursuits. After an excellent day of skiing, boarding, sledding, or snowshoeing, you can return to the cabin for a homemade dinner, a roaring fire, and snow falling in the background. Take in the gorgeous autumn leaves and nearby antique stores, then head back and fall asleep to the sound of rain falling on the metal roof. In warmer months, enjoy epic mountain biking, endless miles of gorgeous hiking trails, thrilling rafting, or tranquil fishing, followed by dinner grilled out on the expansive deck and s’mores in the firepit. Please note that because we are tucked into the valley through the pass, like almost all cabins in the area we do border Highway 2 and the historic train line. Road and train noise is apparent on the street side of the house, but in the house (thanks to new, insulated windows and river-facing bedrooms) and along the riverside of the property, the white noise from the river washes most of it away beautifully. An upside is that this makes for easy access in the winter during snowy and rainy weather. A damage waiver, covering up to $2,000 of accidental damage to the property or its contents, is included in the cost of your reservation.
  • This cabin was perfect for 3 couples! All the amenities were very modern (heated floors in some areas, fully stocked kitchen, dimmable lighting, heating in every room) and we just loved the amazing views of the creek from the back of the cabin. This is a great jumping off point to go to Stevens Pass and we will definitely be back.

  • Wonderful place to stay

    Deborah2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The best option if you want to stay multiple days on Stevens. We were a party of six and were quite comfortable. More than this number may been a bit squished. As it was, three of us took up spots on the floor during evening hang outs. The highlight: SUPERB beds and linens, luxurious showers, comforts of home. Plan to bring a tv and laundry detergent if you want foresee either use.

  • Clean and warm! Perfect spot to get away and relax with family and friends. The soft sound of the river at night will sooth you to sleep after a long day of exploration. We really loved the huge fireplace and heated floors!!

  • Perfect thanksgiving getaway! There were four of us and two small dogs ready for a chill thanksgiving and this property did not disappoint! We were really glad to find a big dining table (no pictured), and a super cooker! Great spot for hikes, skiing at Stevens Pass, and a quick jaunt to Leavenworth.

  • The house was great! A well stocked kitchen, selection of board games, hot tub, and fireplace ensured a super cozy weekend. The hosts were responsive, flexible, helpful, and friendly. Beds were very comfortable and space was maximized for a good number of guests to stay with enough room for everyone.

    Colleen2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is just gorgeous. The view out from the back windows is pure Northwest serenity; the riverbank was a short climb downward, and provided us with some quiet, beautiful natural space for contemplation. But make no mistake... this house is just perfect for the warmth and effusiveness of a group of friends, too! The hot tub was amazing for the evenings, and the kitchen was fully-stocked to make cooking for a group a breeze. We slept like rocks in the comfy beds, and woke up to a gorgeous woodland view in the mornings. We can't wait to come back!

  • My group and I had an amazing time spending our weekend here at Andrews cabin. Very spacious and such a beautiful backyard! Andrew was nice enough to come by during the day to fix a minor issue with the furnace, and also dropped off extra items for the house! We wish we could have stayed for the whole week!

  • Beautiful location!

    John2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew was easy to reach and a helpful host. The house was lovely, clean, and had a beautiful view. We fit a large group comfortably although we were expecting more beds than what we actually had based on what the description seemed to indicate; Andrew was kind and offered us a small refund for the miscommunication. We were able to hike nearby and saw some incredible mountains. Overall we were satisfied and enjoyed a weekend away with family!

  • I stayed here for closing weekend at Stevens Pass with some friends - they insisted that we stay here because I had posted some photos from when I stayed the first time. The cabin is the quintessential getaway in the woods, even though it's right on Hwy 2, so it was really convenient to get to. The place was clean and well equipped, and the indoor and outdoor spaces were perfect for hanging out with my friends. The best part is the hot tub, which directly overlooks the Skykomish River. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Main Cabin is the quintessential cabin at The Pietsch Pit. The 4.5 acre riverfront property has 4 cabins and this one is the GEM.
Full open stainless steel kitchen sporting custom concrete counter tops, a classic wood burning stove living area, and a king bed upstairs room overlooking the river. Large deck, riverside hot tub, and spectacular fire pit. Sleeps 4 adults and two children.
Index is located in the western foothills of the Cascade Mountains; the summit of Mount Index is located 3 miles (4.8 km) south of the town. The Index Town Walls, granite cliffs up to 500 feet (150 m) high, are located on the northern edge of the town. These walls are popularly used for rock climbing, offering a variety of high-quality cracks for this purpose. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.23 square miles (0.60 km2), all of it land. Index is located on the North Fork Skykomish River, just above its confluence with the main channel of the Skykomish River. The Skykomish River's Sunset Falls, a nearly 300-foot-long (91 m) granite chute that drops some 100 feet (30 m), is located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) from the town (on the South Fork Skykomish River).[citation needed] In December 1980, the Skykomish River flooded the town and destroyed eight homes. The town is located 1 mile (1.6 km) north of US Highway 2, approximately 25 miles (40 km) west of Stevens Pass. The BNSF railroad, formerly the Great Northern Railway, runs through the middle of the town. Index was once an important stop for the mining (particularly Monte Cristo and Galena) and timber activities north of its location.

Horseback riding available only a mile away at the Skyland Ranch just up Reiter Rd. ( West on hwy 2, rt on Reiter Rd, on your right) Thank you for the feedback & continual reviews of this amazing cottage from people that were blown away to the attention to detail that I provide for my guests. In July 2016 unfortunately I had to cancel an instant book as I was working with another guest booking the same timeline. I have decided to opt out of instant book so this won't happen again. Thank you. Comment to Elle's review Nov 2016. I received a text that a Kindle was left in a sofa. I responded immediately that I would drive to the cabin the next day which is an hour away and pick up the Kindle & pop it in the mail. The Kindle was not found in the cushions, looked under the sofas, dressers, etc. Sent Elle a message & told her I would continue to look. On Thanksgiving morning my daughter & I scoured the livingroom. The Kindle fell behind the plush rug flat and could not be seen until the sofa was pulled from the wall. I sent Elle 2 messages about the good news. I'm disappointed that my efforts were not received for reasons unknown. Elle has my contact # and not once called me. After a guest checks out its more challenging to connect. I did so 4 times. Clearly my guest did not receive my responses.
This private neighborhood is truly my peaceful haven, my getaway! I'm always so full of energy and my spirit renewed when I leave to go back to the city. Want access to Big Eddy State Park, simply take a right at the end of the driveway and enter into the woods. At the end of the cul de sac. . Stay to your right and hike through the woods. It's just across Hwy 2 from the cottage, but walking gives you the thrill of accomplishment ( & exercise). I feel so honored & privileged to open up this beautiful getaway to guests like YOU to experience the same feeling! ENJOY!!!

  • Brenda's home exceeded our expectations! Thoughtful touches around the home and the hot tub with the view couldn't be beat. 10/10 would recommend this stay.

  • This is a great place and I highly recommend it! Very clean, very well-stocked, great amenities, and a very responsive (and accommodating) host. Beautiful setting on the river and very private. The complimentary treats are a nice touch. No negative surprises. Just highly recommended!

  • The place is the cutest, sweetest place. It was decorated so beautifully, so so clean, and so many personal touches. The pictures really do not do it justice. There’s gorgeous fireplaces in all three beautifully decorated rooms, including the living room. the beds are super comfy, extremely clean and she provides everything needed for the stay. Brenda even had treats In the kitchen and in every room. The hot tub was magical right next to the river. I can’t say enough good things about this place. Will definitely want to go back

  • Brenda’s place is such a special spot! I don’t have a single bad thing to say about it. It was clean, beautiful, and was decorated so well. Not to mention Brenda was an outstanding host, she communicated so well, and was accommodating to any need and request we had during our say. We walked in to a beautiful handwritten note and fresh cookies she made that day! The backyard has a breathtaking view which can be viewed in the hot tub- such a nice feature. The house is in such a great location too, easy drive to Seattle and close to other outdoor hiking trails. I highly recommend this bnb it has everything you need!
