  • Very easy check in. Property is beyond beautiful. They left bagels, coffee, tea, and yogurt for a light breakfast. Fireplace, deck, hot tub, golfing equipment, books, movies, bathroom items- all were clean and convenient. Very quiet area. Super relaxing. Would definitely stay here again!

  • We have been staying in Airbnb locations since 2010 from the East coast to the West Coast and this was the nicest unit we have ever stayed in (5 Stars all the way). Superior décor, great amenities, unbelievable local tips, super host and great location and setting for Willamette Valley wineries.

  • Very nice little guest house with nice added touches like snacks and bottles of water. Also nice to be able to relax in a hot tub and was very reasonably priced

  • I was in town for an interview, and so didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked enjoying the place and the area. That being said, my stay here was terrific. The space is really great and Susan and Joe were wonderful as well. They were right on top of providing all of the information, and very quickly responded to all of my messages. Definitely recommend!

  • Denise & Jeff were great hosts who were very accommodating. They took time to meet us at the house when we first arrived and made sure they answered any questions we had. The house is a neat well equipped older home that worked out great for our group. They even had a back up plan to give us access to the house after we checked out to retrieve an item we left behind. I recommend staying here and most likely will be back myself next time I am in the area.

  • Great little place to stay in a nice town and beautiful area. They have appointed it with everything you could ever need which was lovely. I stayed there with a coworker which ended up feeling a little close, especially with the bathroom having a curtain instead of a door. With a partner it would be fine.

    Jo2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Very inviting and clean tiny house near everything and just 10 minutes from Salem.

    Nathan2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Bill is a great host and his tiny house has everything you need in a cozy and well designed interior. Externally you have deer, squirrels, chickens, roosters and two adorable dogs all in a quaint green space location to make your stay very memorable. Independence is a nice little town with lots of eateries and things to do there or a great springboard for other local attractions/views that you have on your vacation list. =)

  • This tiny house was fantastic! Very clean and thoughtful touches. Great location to local wineries, and right in a quaint town. My dog loved the big backyard and entertaining chickens. We’d love to stay here again.

    Amy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome and absolutely exceeded our expectations. My boyfriend and I stayed there after visiting some vineyards in the area. There were so many small touches and things that Bill did to make our stay perfect. We're really glad we took this route over a hotel! It made for a much more special time than anything else would have.

Walking distance from downtown Independence and Riverview Park. Comfortable, homey room in quiet neighborhood.
I have made a little eden, full of fragrant flowers, herbs, fruits and vegetables in my backyard. The front yard is also landscaped with a myriad of plants that attract hummingbirds, and butterflies. My home is tastefully decorated, with a homey feel. The queen bed is very comfortable to ensure a good night's sleep. The neighborhood is located in a new subdivision, is quiet and family oriented. A lovely public garden is only a block away and is a pleasant walk.
The neighborhood is quite new and located close to Riverview Park which hosts a plethora of events. WOU is only a couple miles away. There is a mix of families in the surrounding houses, some with kids, singles, and retired couples. All are very respectful and quiet.
  • Wonderful Place. Very Nice Host.

    Kenneth2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This comfy bedroom located at the front of a home has its own bathroom and offers a very comfortable space. It is someone’s home, so there are comings and goings, and there is a kitty. Lorena went out of her way to accommodate my late arrival from Portland as well as my missing luggage. Nice safe neighborhood. Would definitely stay there again!

    Cindy2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Nice accomodation at a good value!

  • This was a great place to stay in Independence. Lorena was very responsive, the space was very private and spotless, a nice walk to downtown. Will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Independence. Thanks again.

  • Lorena is an awesome host with a beautiful home! Top of the line everything. I have a favorite place to choose now when I visit my son.

    Carolyn2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, easy to find, easy to check-in and wonderful privacy for a room in the home!

    Sarah2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed our stay there. Lorena was very hospitable and checked up on us periodically to make sure we were comfortable or if we needed anything. This being the first time we have used an AirBnB, we were not sure what to expect or what was expected of us. She made us feel welcomed in her home with great conversation!

  • Wonderful space, especially for dogs! The house was very clean and comfortable, and had great amenities (breakfast, nice shampoo/conditioner, etc). The spa/deck is shared with the owners and another guest unit on the property, so some coordinating was necessary for privacy. Overall it was a wonderful stay and great for our wine tasting/valentine’s day weekend.

  • Perfect location for travel to salem or wine tasting. Plenty of room and great hosts.

We saw deer, geese and other wildlife just below while sitting enjoying coffee ☕️ in the morning. If you need to stay in the Salem/Independence area this is the place to book. Conveniently located just outside the quaint town of Independence.

Come enjoy the beauty of the willamette valley and stay in a one of kind, rustic tiny home, made partially out of cob (a natural building material composed of subsoil, water, and straw). You can head down to the boat launch a block and half away for a river adventure, go wine tasting at the many wineries in the area, or simply enjoy the beautiful gardens and a soak in the hot tub. Check us out on Instagram @buenavistahouse
the space hosts a small kitchen area with a toaster oven, induction double burner, mini fridge, coffee and tea There is a pull out futon if you are two guests but require two different beds. If you inform me I will pull it out and make the bed. There is a 20$ cleaning fee for this. hot tub outdoor and indoor shower a large sun deck a fire pit (wood can be made available upon request) The fire place in the house is not usable at this time you may feel free to roam the gardens. In warm weather there is a hammock and several tables you may relax at. as it is an eco friendly building there is an incinerating toilet instead of a traditional water flushing toilet. the toilet is lined with a paper insert and when flushed and the button is pushed....poof... it gets incinerated. most of the time there is no smell however there is a fan which circulates air outside that you may turn on for your comfort. If you are uncomfortable using this method another easily accessible toilet is available upon request.
Buena vista was one of the earliest settlements in Oregon and was well known for its pottery and hop growing. It later fell into decline after being bypassed by the railroad. The Buena vista ferry which was established many years ago is still in operation today. you can cross it by foot or by car or simply stop by and pick up an ice cream. Another thing to enjoy in the neighborhood is the flower shop on the corner where the honor system is still alive. Pick up a beautiful bouquet beautifully curated by Mary and drop your money in the mail slot. If you enjoy a bit of history there is a gravel road you can follow to the graveyard and find many old tombstones and a nice look of the valley on the hill. There are several river hikes within 5 minutes of the rental......South luckiamute and north luckiamute.. if you keep following buena vista road. If you are interested I can give you more detailed directions.
  • Very unique and beautiful tiny home. We stayed during an unusual cold snap at the end of November, so it got pretty cold at night (into the 20's) but we were prepared as Kristy had contacted us over a week before letting us know that heating might be an issue and giving us the option of canceling. We decided to brave it and we still used the hot tub and enjoyed ourselves. Would love to come back in a warmer season and see the gardens and enjoy opening the windows in the house!

    Jamie2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • It was perfect

    Anthony2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kristy's place is absolutely magical. It was so beautiful, spacious, and remarkably clean. There were so many thoughtful details and touches, Kristy has truly thought of everything! The bed was super comfortable, the hot tub was the perfect size, and the whole place felt like an exotic get away. She even provided these super comfortable robes that we loved lounging in! The house is gorgeous and so detailed. I want her style tips! My boyfriend and I were celebrating a weekend away for our 2 year anniversary and this place absolutely blew us away. If you are hesitating booking this place, do it now! You will not be disappointed. I only wish we could have stayed for a whole week! I can't wait to go back. Thank you again Kristy, we felt so lucky to get to stay here!

  • Christa was available when we needed her, but gave us plenty of privacy. We could leave the windows open and not feel like anyone would even notice us. I took a walk a few miles out from the house and watched the sun rise on lovely little farms. The place was clean but not uncomfortably perfect. We felt like home. Was so nice having the washer and dryer since we stayed almost a week. We will be back.

    Linda2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot. I rented it for my parents who were in town for an extended stay and they really enjoyed it. The cleanliness of the location was immediately obvious, and my Mom (who has an eye for these things) was very impressed with the layout of the living room and kitchen. Muttley's Cottage was far enough back from Monmouth Avenue and the building's envelope was of high enough quality that almost no road noise was heard. That combined with the comfortable bed made for easy sleeping. While we only had one question of the host during the trip, after I texted I heard back within two minutes. While I don't leave reviews like this at most rentals, given the quality of both the location and host in this case I felt compelled to do so.

  • The cottage was so cute and had plenty of space for 5 guests! We had a busy weekend with wedding festivities, and didn’t get to spend a lot of time in the cottage but we are already planning a return trip!

    Miranda2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We only stayed one night. The bungalow is sparkly clean, spacious and close to downtown Independence! The bungalow comfortably fit all four of us and we would be very happy to return!

  • Cute, comfortable, well-equipped cottage with great "extras." Our family of 4 (which includes 2 teenagers) stayed for 2 nights while in the area for a wedding and didn't spend a great deal of time in the cottage itself, but we noted that the kitchen seemed to have everything a traveller would need. They even had special things like coffee and tea (and biscuits!) that made us feel especially welcome. Washer/dryer, iron, and clothing steamer all came in handy! It seemed to have been relatively recently renovated (or just incredibly well-kept), it was impeccably clean, and had all the comforts and necessities of home. Great stay and super easy check-in. Thanks Christa!

  • Host and Owners were very warm and inviting. Helpful and considerate. Felt genuine the whole time. Place was sparkling clean and quiet. Location couldn't have been betterGreat water pressure. Fantastic views. Breakfast was a step above most, but still lower than restaurant quality. (This is the 21st century norm and to be expected wherever you stay now) The kitchen uses elevator #2 as it always smelled like broccoli or bacon. I was not told when I booked the room that the hot tub would be unavailable. This was a main selling point on the listing. Keep in my mind, I booked within the week. If I had booked a month or two out, that would be understandable. As it was, I felt lied to.

  • This is an absolutely wonderful space in every way possible!! To say that this space is clean is an under-statement, its immaculate!! The bed is super comfy with a great assortment of pillow choices. And the coffee bar is off the charts!! If your in the Monmouth/Independence area this space is a must stay. You will not be disappointed.

  • Terri’s space is exceptional! The space is comfortable, clean, and felt like home. Terri was friendly and prompt in communicating. The location is great (the occasional middle of the night train notwithstanding) and we look forward to staying again in the future.

  • The place was very clean, decorated very nice and had so many extra touches. The coffee station and kitchen were well stocked. The bathroom had anything you could possibly need if you forgot anything from home. It was a wonderful visit and we look forward to returning.

  • This was my first opportunity to try AirBNB. Terri absolutely lives up to the description of being a superhost. I can't say enough about both her place - which was outstanding - and the host and property manager - who were both very responsive, available and thoughtful. The place is immaculate and very well furnished - even the kitchen is well stocked. The bed was comfortable, the sitting room/office area overlooked an awesome back yard - very soothing. Every question I had was answered very quickly. Very nice personal touches...especially the plants. I would recommend Terri's place to anyone (and actually have already). I hope to go back again someday. Awesome experience!

We have increased the frequency of cleaning our public areas (including lobbies, door handles, etc.) and have continued the use of hospital-grade disinfectant. • The house was clean, adorable, affordable, and just far enough from Salem to be out of the mess, but close enough that it didn't feel like an inconvenience to drive back when needed. Angela was a great host, responded quickly, and allowed us to check in a little early.

  • We stayed at Angela’s place for five nights while spending time with our new grandson and his parents . The house is convenient to Independence’s cute downtown and to many wineries in the area. The size of the house was great for two people. Angela was responsive to our initial questions and to those we had while we were there.

  • This is my 2nd time staying at Leon's guest house and it still is just as wonderful as the 1st time. The space is beautiful, clean, and feels homey. The view is also gorgeous. Communication with Leon is fast and that is always appreciated. There is no microwave or toaster, things like that. But they do have a mini fridge, and a Keurig coffee bar that is pretty well stocked. If I need to go back to Salem I'll definitely stay again. I crave the relaxation this space provides.

Casa Yana is an expansive Craftsman home over 100 years ols. Janine & her family live downstairs. The Beach room is a deluxe large room upstairs with great light, and faces "D" St. It has a large and small dresser and a queen bed. It has a large private full bathroom with a small sofa plus hanging closet.
Independence is a town with real people who talk to each other and there are multiple cafes on the few blocks that make the center of town. A town by the same name as the guest home, Taxco, Guerrero MEXICO (pronounced ‘Tasco’), is the town Janine’s grandmother lived where her door was open to the hungry wanderer.
Independence is reportedly at the end of the Oregon trail, on the banks of Willamette River, becoming, we like to say, Oregon’s next secret hang-out. It has an unpretentious and relaxed quality to it that is unique and completely non-touristy but welcoming to travelers. We are as close to the river as we are to the train that passes two blocks from the house, with a 12-mile canoe ride to Salem, open year round. Great biking routes . There is swimming, but you have to be careful of the currents. The average year-round temperature is in the 50's F, with sunny summers and rainy winters. •Across the street from the Tasco House is Riggs Auto, where Rick the mechanic restores vintage cars and trucks. •One block away is the Pink House, a cute Victorian café with breakfast, lunch and dinner, prideful in the freshness of its food, to be enjoyed in cozy rooms, a front porch or a courtyard terrace. •El Mechànico is a converted gasoline station into a hip bar with outdoor seating and fire pits . . . in wine country. •Wine vineyards strew the countryside. •Independence is one of the most productive areas for growing hops, with Rogue Ale and Spirits having a farm and tasting room a short bike ride away. •It has a small Mexican grocery store, an art gallery, a movie theater, several places to eat, .50 cent beef or cheese tacos on Friday nights at the Arena bar, you can get ice cream at The Golden Horse where you can hear all you ever wanted to know about the area, and more, from the old-timer nick-named Dutch, there's the friendly and professional Umpqua Bank, a kid’s playground, an amphitheater with Friday concerts and Thursday movie nights in the summer near a water fountain, a library one block away, a used book store and consignment shop a few blocks away, a post office and city hall a few blocks away, some houses, and not a lot more. •It is a very quiet city, as cities go; few sirens, low crime rate, no yelling or disruptive behaviors that we have heard. It is more noisy for someone used to living in remote areas of nature, and especially quiet if you are coming from a larger city. It takes about 5 minutes to drive through the center of town, and that’s if you are driving slowly. Monmouth, 5 minutes away, has larger grocery stores, a hardware store, more restaurants, etc. Salem, 20 minutes away, has Enterprise Car Rental with its service of pick-up and drop off to Independence, as well as other large city conveniences. Corvallis is 1/2 hour away with an expansive farmer's market, natural food stores, arts connections, and more. Independence is a town of less than 9,000 people, with the ocean one hour west, the Cascade Mountain Range one hour East, Portland one hour north and Eugene one and a half hours south. Its central location makes for a soulful place to rest one’s head and heart when wanting to explore diverse areas in Oregon. Bend and the desert is 2-3 hours south. Willamette Valley rural countryside-driving has waterfalls, rivers, streams, fields, farmland, distant mountains, and natural beauty, easily accessible. Silver Falls State Park near Silverton is an hour drive away with incredible falls and trails. We are new to the area so guest research will be necessary for getting up-to-date historical local and tourist information.
  • There are not enough words to capture the warmth, hospitality & loveliness of Janine, the host. Her home is equally infused with loveliness and one feels instantly welcome & a sense of ease. The beach room itself is charming, very comfortable, with ample space. The bed is particularly comfy & everything was spotlessly clean. I was beyond blessed to encounter this oasis in the heart of Independence, with a small Main Street dripping with charm. I unreservedly recommend!! 💜

  • Janine's home was perfect for my two month stay as I was finding out what my next step would be moving to Oregon. She really cares that you have everything you need and such a wonderful host. The house and room is a home away from home. So much character and wonderful energy! I'd have stayed for longer if I could. Thanks again, Janine!

  • We really enjoyed how convenient Janine place is, right on the Main Street of downtown Independence. It’s a great old Victorian boarding house. The uniqueness comes from the quirky designs Janine created with tiles and such that adds a whimsical touch to the beach house bathroom. Fun and casual, perfect for an overnight after an event in town.

  • I was lucky enough to stay with Janine in Independence for 3 full months. I cannot express enough how I enjoyed my time. Janine and her home are peaceful, beautiful, and welcoming. Janine's communication is unparalleled. She infuses her home with a beautiful spirit that makes all feel truly at ease. I had to leave earlier than planned due to family illness, Janine was gracious and accommodating to the situation. THANK YOU, JANINE! I hope to return soon. ❤️❤️❤️

    DeAnn2018-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • My stay was short just one night and I had to leave early in the morning. But the house and my room were nice and a bit quirky but in a fun way. Although due to my schedule, I never got to meet the host (Janine), she was great to communicate with via email and was very responsive. The house is only a couple of blocks away from downtown Independence, so it is easy to walk to restaurants, coffee and shops.

  • Feels like going back in time to be in this beautiful old house, except it’s perfectly comfortable to modern expectations. Really appreciate how clear and organized everything is. The bunk room was perfect for us as friends not wanting to share a bed. The shared bathroom was no problem at all even though there were other guests - it’s large, clean, plenty of towels, a robe for each guest! We LOVED being able to walk 1-2 blocks to downtown, 1 block from a movie theater, and 1 block from a breakfast café. We hope to return

Though close to everything North Salem has to offer, it feels like you’re in a world of your own! The accommodations are roomy and extremely comfortable, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The special touches, artwork and ambient lighting, combined with the panoramic view of the vineyards on the mountainside, give you the space to be quiet and contemplative, even inspiring creative expression! • Private farm house close to dallas, or. Close to amity and mcminnville. We loved it so much that we ste already planning to return next year

    Ron2019-10-15T00:00:00Z
  • Steve and Debby are great host and the place they have is an eden. Their place is a rustic getaway with a grape orchard and fruit trees growing all around. In every direction you see farm land and beautiful Vistas of the country side. There are nice diners about 10 minutes away, so while it is a county emersion, it is still fairly close to the city. If you love the country or if you want a good country experience, you should book a stay at Steve and Debby's place. If you love the country, you will feel at home; if you are a city person, you will discover why people love the country. With a wood heater and the decor, I bet this place is winter wonder land when it snows.

  • We had an amazing time at Dan and Shelley's! Monmouth is very close to both Salem and Dallas, which is very convenient. Their place is probably the cleanest Airbnb we have ever experienced. The beds were amazingly comfortable. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. There were alot of extra touches... Kleenex in every room, extra blankets, coffee pot and very nice shower. We would highly recommend this place to anyone!

  • Merberry Cottage is a cheerful, bright and sparkling clean property. The house has been remodeled nicely, offering open spaces and all the amenities one could wish for. New paint and modern decor make it welcoming and relaxing. The backyard was rather neglected in contrast, which surprised us a bit, but then we came in winter and were not expecting to sit on a back deck. Communication with the hosts was great, as was the easy check-in/check-out procedure. We hope to return to Merberry Cottage and spend more time relaxing and exploring the little town of Monmouth. Thanks.

  • Dan's place was a nice little cottage tucked away in a neighborhood that's also in the center of Monmouth, close to everything. We loved the decor, the large bathroom with the cool sink, the kitchen looked like it had everything we would need. We really liked the ease of checking in and checking out and Dan's quick response when We messaged him was very much appreciated.

    Damon2019-12-16T00:00:00Z

Casa Yana is an expansive Craftsman home over 100 years old. Janine & her family live downstairs. The Library Rm is a cozy room upstairs, facing a huge pine tree at the side of the house. It has its own private full bath.
Independence is reportedly at the end of the Oregon trail, on the banks of Willamette River, becoming before our eyes Oregon’s next secret hang-out. It has an unpretentious and relaxed quality to it that is unique and completely non-tourist. •Across the street from theTasco House is Riggs Auto, where Rick the mechanic restores vintage cars and trucks. •It has a small Mexican grocery store, an art gallery, a movie theater, several places to eat, .50 cent beef or cheese tacos on Friday nights at the Arena bar, you can get ice cream at 2EZ where you can hear all you ever wanted to know about the area, and more, from the old-timer nick-named Dutch, there's the friendly and professional Umpqua Bank, a kid’s playground, an amphitheater with Friday concerts and Thursday movie nights in the summer near a water fountain, a library one block away, a used book store and consignment shop a few blocks away, a post office and city hall a few blocks away, some houses, and not a lot more.
  • The space is adorable. The host is awesome. You will enjoy the quite and the convenience to everything.

  • Janine made me feel very welcome, showing me through the whole house, and the comfortable shared spaces she thought I might enjoy. She's an incredible artist, and the designs blossoming in the historic house fill each space with positive energy. I continued to explore and discover amazing tidbits throughout my stay - subtle figures in the mosaics of the room's unique shower space, fresh rose petals carefully arranged atop the bookshelf and much, much more.

Quiet studio apartment with private entrance on 7 acres, attached to rustic farmhouse. Beautiful park-like setting, tall fir and oak trees. Fully furnished, full kitchen and bath, deck, access to laundry room (shared with us). Great for longer stays.
Full kitchen, refrigerator, stove, microwave; queen bed; wardrobe. We keep it simple while providing what is needed. We provide coffee and filters so you can make coffee. Bring your own food. Large windows look out over horse pasture, oaks, tall firs. Bird watch, stroll around the place, sit inside by the propane fireplace/heater.
A rural setting on the edge of Salem. Because of the tall trees and surrounding acreage, civilization seems far away. Easy access from I-5, plenty of restaurants nearby, as well as larger stores and food markets. Willamette University/downtown Salem is about 15 minutes. The Kroc Center is about 20 minutes. We are one hour south of Portland, one hour east of the coast, one hour west of Cascades, one hour north of Eugene.
  • Very comfortable, clean and homey space! Will plan to stay again next time we are in time.

    Ted2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy comforting and relaxing! Love this spot with the beautiful scenery just seconds away from town. Jay and Cynthia are super accommodating and responsive. It was a pleasure to meet them and we will recommend the studio retreat to anyone else! It’s a great sized studio too! You have your own private entry and a place for your car. We never saw them except for when we arrived to get a quick tour. We really felt relaxed and enjoyed the studio a lot!

    Samira2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This fully stocked studio apartment just on the outskirts of South Salem is easy to find, clean, and quiet. Jay was responsive to texts and emails and was friendly and informative upon check-in. After checking-in, I enjoyed walking around the property a bit with Jay and his lovely dog Lucy. A couple of notes: I brought coffee and half & half with me because I wasn't sure what type of coffee would be available. Bring food if you want to prepare meals because they have everything you need to do that. They also have a propane "fireplace" stove in the middle of the room. It puts out nice heat and is enjoyable to sit by when you're awake. However, on the first night I didn't turn the thermostat down low enough before I went to bed and the heater roared to life at 2:30am. I sat straight up in bed thinking the room was on fire. Lastly, like all hotel rooms with a refrigerator, it makes noise when the condenser comes on. If this bothers you, I suggest traveling with a white noise machine. I don't go anywhere without my Rohm Travel White Noise Sound Machine. It works like a charm! I had no trouble sleeping through the noise of the fridge....just the bright orange fire that lit up the entire room! Overall, I had a great experience and would highly recommend staying in this studio apartment.

Peace and country privacy, with beautiful views, from our hillside retreat.
Enjoy our country home, with views of the coastal range, vineyard, meadows and sunsets. Watch the deer and wild turkeys graze. Great birding and star gazing. Split level entry (6-7 stairs). Open concept upper floor, includes full kitchen (no dishwasher), spacious living room with cathedral ceiling and large windows. Lower level includes two bedrooms, one bath, sitting area, and walkout to large patio. Absolutely no parties, events, or family gatherings.
Quiet and private, but close to town (6 miles). We are surrounded by 5 universities, and a dozen wineries, Rogue Brewery and Chatoe, Willamette River, Black Mt. Bike Trail, and the charming towns of Monmouth, Dallas and Independence. There are 3 golf courses within 10 miles. Bicyclists are welcome, but we do have a gravel driveway. Oregon coast is about an hour away. PDX 1.5 hrs, and downtown Portland 1 hr. A small private airport 6 miles.

Sorry, no TV or WiFi, however cell service is good, in case you have a hot spot on your phone. Behind the cottage next to a large parking area are a table and propane BBQ for private picnics. The Blueberry Garden Cottage makes a great "home base" for exploring the area.
This is a peaceful rural area. We often see small airplanes flying from Independence State Airport, 8 miles away, sometimes practicing acrobatic maneuvers in the distance. Hot air balloons float by occasionally, and pilots of ultra-lights wave at us as they cruise over the scenic surroundings. The area is popular with bicycle riders. Since we live one mile from the pavement on a gravel lane, it may be best to transport your bikes and park closer to smoother roads. For kayakers and others with their own watercraft, there are nice paddle routes on the nearby Willamette River Greenway. At different times of the year, you will be able to observe agricultural activities in the 2 adjoining vineyards and nearby Christmas tree farm. (We do not own these.) Beginning in mid-October, you can watch hand and machine harvesting of the grapes and see a helicopter pick up bundles of Christmas trees, loading them onto trucks bound for distant places. Many opportunities for wine and ale tasting are nearby. Several covered bridges are in the region. Evenings offer excellent stargazing accompanied by the soft calls of owls. Every season at Blueberry Garden Cottage brings unique experiences.

  • Very nice cottage and Anita was a great host. We chose this location as it was close to many great wineries in the area. My favorite part was waking up to the beautiful sunrise over the vineyards close by and of course the blueberries that are right of the front porch.

  • Lovely cottage tastefully decorated. Thoroughly enjoyed the wildlife area and trail.

  • 3 friends and myself were looking for places in this area where we could call home base while we did a wine tasting tour over the weekend. This home has a nice cottage feel. It's secluded enough to be private and close enough to Wine country and a small downtown area with nice restaurants. It was spotless, well kept, supplied with what we needed, and the instructions for stay were very clear. TV and wifi also a nice touch. We played board games and video games in our relaxation/hangout time. It fit our needs perfectly.

I am located in the heart of the Willamette Valley. Salem has easy access to wine country, and sits equally between the mountain slopes and the Oregon Coast. The neighborhood I'm in is quiet and peaceful, very tranquil. I keep the house very clean and would appreciate the same. I have travelled many places and have appreciated the welcoming of other Airbnb's. I look forward to meeting new people and helping them along their way!
Location is between Salem and Independence, in a quiet neighborhood about 10 minutes from downtown Salem.

  • Our large group was in Monmouth to celebrate some special birthdays and to do Cycle Oregon's Joy Ride. Emily's place looks just like the pictures and included extra special touches like chocolate chip cookies and fresh flowers from the amazing yard. We had great fun sitting under the gazebo on the patio and enjoying the pleasant June evening. Also, they were so accommodating when we asked for a safe place to lock our 9 bikes and provided a great space for all of them!

    Cheryl2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Emily's place was outstanding!!! The house was very clean and well put together. All beds and mattresses were very comfy. There's plenty of seating space for a big group and all the bathrooms were well-stocked. The outside area made for a great hangout spot in good weather. Emily was just also very thoughtful and responsive, while also maintaining a proper boundary and giving us our privacy. 10/10 would recommend. Getting in was easy and there were cookies!!!

  • Emily's property is my favorite Airbnb experience yet!!! Our group of cyclists found it to be perfect in all ways!! Emily was the perfect host and so willing to accommodate our special needs to check in a bit early, offer the carriage house for storing our bikes overnight and welcome us so graciously. We so enjoyed dining in the backyard after 2 spectacular days cycling the lovely smooth roads of Polk County!!! Everything about our experience was PERFECT!!!! We are already planning our visit next year.

This an expansive 100-year-old Craftsman home. 3-5 bedrooms are available for guests, depending on availability at time of reservation, with 3-4 full baths. When you need additional guest space, Janine stays out in a cabin to give you additional space and has a large white standard poodle with her. Prior commitments to rooms are honored so there may be one or two guests in home. The common space, kitchen, seasonal porch and outdoor yard is open to guest use.
Independence is a town with real people who talk to each other and there are multiple cafes, restaurants, an art gallery, bookstore, library, movie theater and more on the few blocks that make the center of town.
Independence is reportedly at the end of the Oregon trail, on the banks of Willamette River, becoming before our eyes Oregon’s next secret hang-out. It has an unpretentious and relaxed quality to it that is unique and completely non-tourist. •Across the street from theTasco House is Riggs Auto, where Rick the mechanic restores vintage cars and trucks. •It is a very quiet city, as cities go; few sirens, low crime rate, no yelling or disruptive behaviors that we have heard. It is more noisy for someone used to living in remote areas of nature, and especially quiet if you are coming from a larger city. It is named the playful city.
  • Great location, clean, comfortable beds. Easy walking distance to restaurants, movie theater and bookshop. Janine provides excellent hospitality and was able to offer helpful advice.

  • Special place with lots of character and antiques.

  • Janine was very accommodating and helpful. We kayaked the Willamette River from Buena Vista to Independence. Home is close to the park and a short walk from the kayak landing/launch. Definitely will stay here again in the future.

  • Janine was a wonderful host. A group of us traveled to Oregon for my daughter’s wedding. Janine was flexible and helpful as we sorted out how many people were staying at her house and when people were arriving. Her home is amazingly creative and a delight to wander around looking at the quirky artwork and collection of memorabilia. She had lights on for us in the evening, games for playing on the screened in front porch, coffee aplenty, and fresh flowers in the rooms. She was friendly, helpful, and generous with her home, which is perfectly located at the edge of the charming downtown. Thank you, Janine!

    Kathleen2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing home! Janine answered every question I had and was courteous, helpful and went out of her way to help any way she could. There were a total of 8 of us, including two small grandchildren, and Janine made room for all of us. The town is delightful and a we enjoyed a stroll down main street at dusk. I would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you, Janine, for making our stay so comfortable.

    Tammy2018-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • Janine was a kind and welcoming host that answered all of our questions and always made us feel at home. Her house accommodated all 6 of us with comfort and style!

  • Janine's place was great, very fun. A nice big comfortable home.

    Debbie2017-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Independence is a very small town a little bit off the track and immensely charming. Tasco House was located just on the very edge of town and had great access to cafes and pubs. The house is lovely and well appointed for just about anything you need.
