  • A super cosy guest house in a fantastic location! The hosts were amiable and helpful with any questions and requests that we had. They told us about local attraction-breath taking waterfalls. Also, baked us fresh bread and yummy coffee and walnut cake! We felt very welcome. The place is immaculate and tidy. Thank you so much!

    Ronnie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic communication from the hosts and they were very understanding when our plans changed last minute. They went above and beyond for us unlike any other hosts I know of; Karen even baked a gluten free cake! Very much looking forward to our next stay. 🙂

Phil and Karen offer you an amazing experience of Air B&B Every tiny detail has been thought off and sorted. Everywhere sparkles yet still so homely Like us you will plan to return as soon as possible Jean and Sharon

  • Philip and Karen have been amazing hosts. They were very welcoming on arrival, telling us about the area and places we could go to, also providing us with maps and explanations on how to get to them. The views of the landscapes are idyllic. Also they have bikes in case you want to go for a ride. But the best thing is the lemon drizzle and granary bread they made for us, we will never forget the breakfasts we had on our stay. The house is lovely and with all the appliances to ensure a good stay. We are very grateful for the experience.

    Mario2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay! The place was so comfy and had absolutely everything you could want, with some really thoughtful touches. The cake, bread and the butter were so good and Philip and June were so welcoming and helpful. The location is great for getting to hiking spots and the waterfalls. We are already trying to plan when we can go again, highly recommend!

    Louise2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking location, super clean and generally lovely. Phil and Karen were fantastic hosts, the extra little touches like milk, cake and the fresh baked bread were homey. They respected our privacy but we’re about if we needed them. Would definitely come back and would recommend to others for a nice scenic getaway.

  • A lovely cottage. Jennet is an excellent host and provided us with a wealth of information on places to go and things to see. Great location for the Brecons and further afield trips (it's well connected road wise) - obviously a car is recommended. We loved the wood burning stove and can definitely recommend buying extra logs from the farm Jennet suggests. As others have mentioned, the place is cold in winter but once you get a fire going its exceptionally cosy. We'll definitely be back again!

    Tim2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely host, treated amazingly, house was spotless and cosy. Would happily stay here again even if it was just for the cakes

    Charlie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't recommend this place higher. Jennet's welsh cakes are outstanding and who doesn't want to spend a stormy weekend next to a fire? Lovely place.

    Jamie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely time, the cottage was divine and we didn’t want to come home x

    Lois2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • lovely little cottage, a perfect base camp for trips to the brecons

    Kito2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is very comfortable and, once the wood burner is going, warm and welcoming. The Welsh cakes were a nice touch and they are even nicer when warmed in the stove above wood burner. It's a traditional cottage, mainly heated by the burner and we stayed in December - we were fine with some warm socks and jumpers. It's a good spot for exploring the Beacons, nice local walks and waterfalls and the coast too. We wished we'd been able to stay longer.

    Phil2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A delightful little cottage in a very pleasant setting, with a lovely enclosed garden which is safe for dogs. The main heating for the cottage is a large and effective wood burning stove, which is supplemented by a couple of electric heaters, which are OK but not very powerful. Make sure you have warm clothes. Instant heating is provided for sinks and shower, which us very efficient and hot.

    Heather2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is perfectly situated for the waterfall walks so that’s great! It’s a beautiful little cottage, with a lovely wood burner, cute little kitchen and nice outside garden (although we didn’t use it as we went at the end of November). It’s perfect if you’re after a weekend in a traditional little cottage. Jennet was incredibly helpful when we got lost 5mins before we got to the cottage and accepted us arriving late at night. She gave us a great recommendation for a local pub and left some delicious Welsh cakes for us.

  • A great self contained place with your own cooking facilities and shower / toilet. Lots of nice little touches to help get settled in and plenty of space for 1 or 2. I was staying for work but would make a great base for exploring the area. Nice and quiet at night and comfy bed so good for sleeping too! Everything was spotless and the kitchen is well supplied with kitchenware and a few essentials. Chris is great and very helpful but also gives you space to let you get on with your stay. Great place to stay. Thanks

Was only 15 mins away from Bike Park Wales which was very convenient. Self contained room was lead through the garage entrance hallway to the back of the house. Lovely hosts were very accommodating and flexible which was helpful. Thank you very much.

  • Hetty the horse box is a wonderful, place to stay. Peaceful, relaxing and private. The hosts were friendly, welcoming and are quick to respond to any queries that we had. The hot tub is an added bonus and the log fire kept us cosy. The place was clean and was equipped with everything we needed.

    Beth2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! I'd suggest staying more than one night to get the full experience. We were caught in the storm, but it was super cosy and warm with the log fire on

    Sian Samantha2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Hetty is so cosy and had everything we needed. There's no chance of getting cold with the log burner and mini radiator, which are very easy to use and there's a box of logs ready to chuck in. We loved the cosy bed, especially the cute little window for a nice breeze, which is useful when your dog sleeps on your head. Very spacious with fold away tables and fully functioning kitchenette has everything you could wish for, even a cafetiere for us coffee addicts. It's nicely settled away from the main farm houses (also available here!) Felt like we were in our own world. Hosts are wonderful, very relaxed and communicative with a no- problem attitude. Will definitely be coming back!

    Kat2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in Hetty. Great facilities and a well designed space. Road a bit noisy if sat outside but with the hot tub on you couldn't hear it.

    Debbie2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed the place, cosy and well designed. There is plenty of space to roam around. It is surroanded by nature only, it is quiet and calming, we loved the idea of log fire and the host was very nice and quick responsive. I definitely reccommend staying there and we hope we return sometime in the future. Thank you for everything!

    Diana2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Hetty is absolutely a Gem! I absolutely fell in love with how she was converted. Welcoming and cosy with few finishing touches that just made it perfect. The fire log was just the cherry on the cake! The place is fantastic to relax and forget about the rest of the world! And there is plenty of things to do around it (from just 5 min to whatever time you wish) The hosts are fantastic , given the fact it is a self-check place they are always incredibly quick to respond either via text of phone (and when I say quick I mean minutes!) And they make sure that everything run smoothly for you from a distance.how amazing! I would absolutey recommend it and I will go back myself for sure! 😁

  • We spent one night at Martin and Paul’s after a long day hiking. From the moment we set foot in the door we felt very welcome - Martin and Paul are great hosts! The space was nicely appointed with many thoughtful touches. We couldn’t have been happier with the stay!

    Daniel2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Impecably clean, nice complimentary tea, coffee and cakes. The hosts gave us good suggestions and we really enjoyed our stay

  • Fabulous homely house with great hospitality. Stylish and contemporary room. Drinks available in the room with extra goodies too.

    Linda2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Without a doubt this is the best Airbnb we have ever stayed in. If we could award more stars we would. Martin and Paul are delightful hosts and nothing is left to chance. So many extra thoughtful touches. Incredibly clean, stylish with amazing decor and yet still welcoming and that at home feeling. We really enjoyed our conversations with both Martin and Paul and of course their adorable dog Bentley is just the icing on the cake. Thank you both for a wonderful stay

    Jackie & Ray2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Martin and Paul were fantastic hosts for our two night weekend stay in November. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean, tidy and modern. We were greated with some lovely special touches on the Friday night, always nice after a four hour drive! We could have use of a separate lounge if we wanted to or alternatively, Martin and Paul were very welcoming in us joining them in the family lounge. They were also able to recommend somewhere for us to eat in the evening and were only to happy to let us use the radiators to dry some wet clothing from a day spent in the rain. Would 100% recommend anyone staying here. Very friendly, helpful and welcoming hosts. First time using Air BnB and we now have very high expectations of wherever we have to stay next! Thank you Martin and Paul :)

    Kathryn2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is the 2nd time we have visited Paul's place and both stays have been excellent. They are very accommodating hosts; the house is lovely and warm and super clean; the room is just as seen in the photos; the bed is very comfortable; the shower is great; there is parking at the front of the house, and very thoughtful extra touches, such as welsh cakes and chocolates. Paul and Martin make you feel like you are staying in a hotel. I can't praise them enough.

    Susan2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Totally recommend. Host goes above and beyond to help with your stay.

    Caroline2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Martin were super welcoming and their house is really comfortable and stylish. Very happy and thanks to you both!

  • This cottage is in a really quiet village location well set back from the road. The facilities are all excellent. We particularly liked the kitchen and the conservatory dining room. The heating control were easy for the least technical person ... one finger to adjust the temperature. The nearest grocery is a Coop which is 5 minutes drive and theres a large Tesco in Aberdare. Great place to stay.

It's perfect for a weekend of Red Lion pub, Four Waterfalls Trail, Penderyn Distillery and Carreg Cennen Castle. The house has all the amenities - we made use of the kitchen, Sky TV, and DVD player. • this property is a real gem and we would highly recommend it. Its a great secluded and private place to stay with everything you need. It's warm and cosy, well lit with a great games room to keep visitors entertained. We hired the hot tub which was a real touch! The hosts have gone the whole hog with providing an absolutely lovely place to relax and unwind. We will definitely be looking to return, maybe in the Summer time when it's a little bit better weather! Plenty of things to do in the area as well which unfortunately we didn't get to explore as much as we intended so hopefully next time we will. Thanks very much to the Birds

  • Amazing views all around, lovely friendly people and quick to help. Lovely presented home, very little signal makes it a lovely escape from the real world, but does come with wifi if needed. The family dinning table was great for meals and games, the sofa was so comfy could truly relax after a long day of adventure.

  • We had a lovely stay at the Birds home a converted stables that still had remaining, original features, a beautiful clean, modern stylish home. I would definitely have liked to stay longer. The games room was an added bonus for my 24 year old son and husband who greatly enjoyed the pool table and I even had a go at darts. Highly recommend one of the best Air Bnb's we have stayed at in Uk and Europe.

As well as being a lovely, cosy and clean space with lots of room and facilities, the flat is in a great location - 15 mins from the next town, 15 mins from the Four Fall Walk (amazing waterfall walk), and there's a great view of the national park from the window. We would definitely stay again.

The Property is single storey and has been completely renovated to provide modern contemporary accommodation designed for those who like the outdoors. The Property is single storey, comprising of a double bedroom with a king size bed, large twin room, open plan kitchen, diner/living with french doors leading to a private garden and patio. The property has a large woodburner, All located on the ground floor. Double bedroom, twin bedroom, wet room, open plan living dining and kitchen.
Located at the end of a small peaceful village adjacent to several waterfall trails. The area is famed for its waterfalls, Gorges, Caves, abandoned silica mines and nature. The constant presence of water creates a humid and wet atmosphere and the steep sides shelter the area from sun and wind. In this warm and wet environment, plant life covers every surface. The oak and ash trees have seen relatively little disturbance over recent years and a dense canopy has developed. This is a Welsh rainforest, far more scarce than the more familar tropical rainforest. There are only a handful of places like it anywhere in the world. Waterfall Country is considered one of Britain’s best examples of an old sessile oak and ash woodland habitat. The humid atmosphere provides an ideal environment for rare woodland plants to flourish on cliffs, rocks and tree trunks. Fern species include the hay-scented buckler-fern, beech fern, royal fern, green spleenwort, Tunbridge filmy-fern and Wilson’s filmy-fern. There is an even greater variety of mosses and liverworts. On the ground layer you will find greater fork-moss, little shaggy-moss and straggling pouchwort and, in the most humid places, scarce turf-moss. The boulders and oak can support western earwort, wood-rust plasters fallen tree trunks and the diminutive Heller’s notchwort and autumn flapwort grow on oak bark and decaying logs. In the rivers and streams liverworts and mosses flourish, the rocks and cliffs of the waterfalls are covered in species like rusty feather-moss and fox-tail feather-moss, and sometimes Hartmann’s grimmia, river pocket-moss, beck pocket-moss and Hutchin’s hollywort and on some crags the bright yellow lichen Chrysothrix chlorine has been found. Through rarely seen, otters live along the riverbanks, revelling in the safety provided by the dense woodland. Butterflies flit across the water and open spaces created by fallen trees. Birds like dippers and grey wagtails dance along the exposed rock of the river channels. At night, bats are busy amongst the trees and over water, hunting the numerous moths and other insects that dwell within the cover of the trees.
  • A well designed, super clean and thought out place making a perfect place to stay in Waterfall Country of South Wales.

  • Peters place is as described. A great situation for walking, lots of waterfall walks nearby. As others have said the accommodation was spotless, the wood burner is a nice touch and really pumps out the heatI should think it would also make a good winter stay.

    Martyn2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • It was wonderful stay and it was perfect the way it was described let it be the cottage description or location.. this is our first visit to Wales but this is going to be one memorable and most preferable location we would love to visit every summer. Kids loved it and just get out of the cottage and the stunning trail starts to explore the waterfall country, location can't be any better than this..

    Khannan2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic little place right at the start of the waterfall country. Very quiet with a private courtyard/patio and all amenities if you want to self cater.

    Anjalika2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for waterfall walks and peace. The place was modern and very clean, perfect location and more than suitable for long and short stays. We loved it!

    Aimee2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • From the outside it’s an unassuming and ‘small’ looking bungalow. But as soon as you open the door it’s another world - a modern, spacious, comfy and very well appointed properly with a lovely private garden area out the back. It’s all been done out recently and was a very comfy stay, a proper home from home. And that’s ‘just’ the property - the real star is the location because you can enjoy brilliant trails through waterfall country from the doorstep, and in the evening pop across the road to sit by the river. Recommended!

  • Amazing location and beautiful comfortable accommodation! We love the stylish and modern set up. The place is certainly sparkling clean as described. Everything is well organised with no cluster! The surroundings are wonderful and so peaceful. We could hear the birds, wind and relaxing running water of the steams and waterfall nearby. It forces anyone to relax and let go of the stress! Peter's rear garden fence is the steep hillside's natural landscape. From the main bedroom we could see the tall trees, bushes and flowers that reached to the sky! It's just wonderful! The fireplace in the living room was so relaxing! We could spend all day by the fire on any cold day! Peter is environmentally conscious, in recycling and energy conservation. We could see this in the set up of the home. The walking trails are so close by! We are not into walking but we tried on one of the trail and we loved it! The waterfalls are amazing after a big rain! It was muddy though. We enjoyed the stay and certainly will love to return. Thanks Peter for the wonderful stay and the amazingly prompt customer communication!

Pontpren has been painstakingly restored and offers quality accommodation. The house is in the middle of the village of Penderyn and most places are within easy walking distance including the Lamb Inn, the Red Lion and Penderyn Whisky Distillery. Penderyn provides a great base for exploring the Brecon Beacons National Park and 'waterfall country'. If you come to stay I will be happy to talk to you about places to see and if you want, and I'm available, I will happily show you the sights.
The house has been entirely modernised and newly furnished throughout but the house at 25 Pontpren can be traced back as far as the 1881 census and most of the stone work dates back to that time, including the fireplace and original staircase.
  • We had a fantastic time staying here. It was bigger than it looked in the pictures. Everything was finished to a really high standard and the place was spotless. It had everything we needed and more. We especially loved the wood burner and the bath. We will definitely be back.

  • Absolutely fabulous location, perfect for exploring the many waterfalls and amazing walks that the area has to offer. We also made it to "Big Pit" and the "Monkey Sanctuary" as well as "National ShowCaves for Wales". Absolutely stupendous. The house is spacious and very warm too, if you use the wood burner, and still plenty warm if you don't. Plenty of wood, kindling and fire lighters supplied at very reasonable prices. Well equipped kitchen, comfy sofas, WiFi. What more would you want?

  • A ramblers dream location! Set in idyllic countryside the lodge was perfect for a few excursions to waterfalls, pubs and beyond. Very clean with some quirky features, it felt homely and had everything you would need. Great host with good communication. Will recommend to friends and family.

  • We had a wonderful stay at this stylish and well equipped property. The waterfall walks are right on the doorstep and the house offered great comforts after a days walk. We hope to stay again next year, couldn’t fault the place!

  • We stayed at the Waterfall Lodge for the August Bank Holiday weekend. Wow we couldn't have chosen a better weekend for the weather! The Lodge is part of of a few semi detached buildings in the same complex. There is easy resident parking right outside the apartment which was great. When you enter the apartment from the back of building you are greeted by tons of information about the area and plenty of brochures to keep you occupied for the trip. The apartment is very spacious and has a very large downstairs Bathroom and Kitchen. The lounge room area is also quite spacious with plenty of seating for a full sized family. You will also find a double room downstairs near the front door which has two bunk beds. On the tops floor is another very big bathroom which is actually a wet room! very clean and plenty of water pressure. Also on the top floor is two very big bedrooms. 1 x double bed and 1 x twin beds. The location of the lodge is absolutely perfect. The river and lot's of waterfall walks are literally a stones throw away. You can also hear a river/waterfall at night from the lodge which is lovely. The local pubs are also only a 12-15min walk away. We ate at The Old Whitehorse Inn twice on our stay and the service and food was excellent. You also have a co-op with everything you need around a 7-10min drive from the apartment which was perfect. I can thoroughly recommend this lodge for a weekend away or even a mid week stay. Even if the weather is bad you have a nice cosy place to stay with a fire place.

Great location for walking the dog and kids.

The house is in a lovely quiet location from which you can easily walk to the start of the waterfall trails. While not modern the house is comfortable and provides everything you need. Communication with Eleanor was easy as was the checkin and checkout process. We loved our time there.

  • We had a lovely time and the house was perfect for our needs, a home from home. Lots of lovely welcoming touches and incredibly dog friendly with dog bowl, towels and poo bags available for our dog to use. Great kitchen facilities, warm and cosy, and lots of information provided about the area. We loved the walks and scenery in the area and found everyone so friendly. We would especially recommend The White Horse pub just down the road - we visited 3 nights in a row due to the friendly staff, amazing food and they also made a huge fuss of the dog...

  • Clean house, good location as a base to explore “Waterfall Country”. Local pub was friendly and had decent food. Overall it was a good place to stay and I would go back again.

  • Helen' house is amazing. It' s really comfortable and spacious. Helen even left some coffee capsules and snacks for us. Absolutely recommendable for groups

  • Such a lovely house and well laid out. Had everything we needed and Helen was very friendly and welcoming. Perfect location for exploring the Brecon Beacons and would highly recommend staying here

  • A really big house with generous bedrooms, a wrap around annexe/utility games room which doubled up as a secure bike park for clean bikes (courtesy of a jet hose in the back garden). It was clean and I mean no symptoms from an asthma sufferer type clean. Lovely and generous blankets, towels and linen. Hanging space and capacious cupboards and wardrobes, drawers and shelves. A secure, large and grassy garden, perfect for dogs, games, sitting outside and sheep watching. Local walks and bike trails close by and shops about ten minutes in the car. Lots to do within 20, 45 and 60 minutes drive from the house so perfect for Gower, Cardiff and Brecon Beacons. Good check in and out with discrete and responsive Helen. The photos do not do the place justice really. We took 6 humans, 2 dogs, 4 bikes and a huge amount of pent up energy from 3 teenage boys and the house didn’t even blink! One of our best holidays - in large part because we weren’t on top of each other inside or outside and could head off to all points in South Wales with very easy access to major roads. Highly recommend.

  • Great base for a family visit and Helen was a great host. Lovely spacious and clean house and we will definitely be back.

  • Helen was a great host. Accommodation was very clean with everything we needed. Perfect for our weekend to BikePark Wales. We will definitely be returning.

  • The house was clean, comfortable and spacious. We were made to feel very welcome and Helen had left us milk and a few other groceries for our arrival which was lovely. She popped in during our stay to check we were happy and that there were no issues.

    Liz2018-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Helen's place was a fantastic base for visiting Bike Park Wales - only a 20 minute drive. Only my son and I stayed, so we were rattling around a bit (it's a big place!) but the well equipped kitchen, wide screen TV and outdoor seating area were lovely to relax in. The snooker table was a fantastic bonus! We didn't bother with the playstation, but I can imagine that larger families or groups of mates would appreciate it, especially being quite separate from the living room. We hired our bikes so didn't require storage, but I believe Helen has plans for this. The whole place felt generally secure, and it's a very peaceful, rural location - perfect for recharging the batteries! Helen came to meet us shortly after we let ourselves in, though there was very little for her to explain - everything was obvious. In fact, the only thing I didn't work out was the cooker (actually painfully obvious!) - I messaged Helen and she appeared moments later! Great host! I would definitely be happy to stay here again!

In 2003 we lovingly restored our former stable to provide cosy accommodation for guests visiting the Neath Valley. While the thick stone walls, odd windows and hayloft door have been retained, the interior has been given new life by the use of natural materials; reclaimed timber being used for the beams, doors and upstairs flooring and slate for the ground floor. After a long day exploring the great outdoors, guests can return to our cosy cottage, for a comfy night's sleep.
Yr Hen Stabl is the total transformation of an old, disused stable. While the thick stone walls, odd windows and hayloft door have been retained, the interior has been given new life through clever use of natural materials, such as slate and reclaimed timber. Modern comforts are tastefully mixed with antique style; sloping ceilings and wide plank doors sit comfortably with up-to-date kitchen and bathroom fittings, double glazing and central heating. A new sun lounge has been added which is proving very popular with guests. Living Area: The through-lounge is separated from the kitchen by an antique Victorian counter, rescued from the local corner shop. The lounge area is attractively furnished and decorated with paintings and embroideries. There is a colour television, it connection, DVD player, radio and lots of games and books. Kitchen: The kitchen is well equipped with ample work surfaces, a refrigerator, washing machine, low level cooker/ ceramic hob, microwave, belfast sink and breakfast bar. Bedrooms: Yr Hen Stabl sleeps three. There are two bedrooms, one double and one single bed.All bedlinen and duvets are provided. Bathrooms: There is a bathroom upstairs and a WC and shower/wet room downstairs, both supplied with fluffy hand/bath towels (instant hot water/central heating are included in the tariff). Garden: The French windows open out onto a sunny patio set in the former paddock and a landscaped garden which is mature and full of colour. Children: Yr Hen Stabl can accommodate children Animals: We regret that Yr Hen Stabl cannot accept pets. Parking: Parking in grounds for two cars. Access: The open-plan ground floor accommodation is level and spacious. Entrance is via a wide doorway, accessible by wheelchair. History: During its time, Yr Hen Stabl has been a hay barn, a cow shed and possibly even a cart shed. During recent excavations for a drain, we found – much to everyone’s excitement – a Roman coin. Experts at Cardiff Museum have identified it as being made between 337 and 361, during the reign of Konstantius, the second Christian Emperor of Rome. How it came to be at Abergwrelych is anyone’s guess and would make a fascinating story.
The Neath Valley has had a chequered history; from being a ‘romantic valley’ beloved of painters such as J.M.W. Turner, it was transformed into an industrial coal-mining area. Since the demise of the mining industry, the scarred and disfigured land has been restored once more to its lush, green landscape. Waterfall Country - Nowhere else in Wales is there such a richness and diversity of waterfalls within such a small area as can be found in the Vale of Neath. This abundance has led to the region becoming known as ‘Waterfall Country'. Brecon Beacons - The Brecon Beacons National Park contains some of the most spectacular and distinctive upland formations in southern Britain, including Pen Y Fan, the second highest peak in Wales. Stretching from Hay on Wye in the east to Llandeilo in the west, the National Park incorporates the Black Mountains, the Central Beacons and Fforest Fawr as well as moorland, forests, valleys, waterfalls, lakes, caves and gorges. Maen Madoc & Maen Llia - Maen Madoc and Maen Llia are standing stones in the Brecon Beacons national park. Maen Madoc is about 2.7 metres high, and is thought to mark a Christian burial site. Maen Llia is a large diamond-shaped stone, 3.7m high, 2.8m wide and only 0.6m thick. Legend has it that whenever a cock crows, the stone moves off to drink in the nearby River Nedd. Afan Forest Park - Afan Forest Park is the fastest growing mountain bike centre in Britain, with a broad range of trails of varying levels of difficulty. With beautiful viewpoints over the Gower Peninsula, Lundy Island and the Brecon Beacons, these trails will leave you breathless in more ways than one. Carreg Cennen Castle - Carreg Cennen is one of the most spectacularly sited castles in Wales. It dates back at least to the late 13th century, although a cache of Roman coins and four prehistoric skeletons unearthed at the site, suggest that the Romans and even prehistoric peoples occupied the craggy hilltop centuries earlier. Neath Abbey Ruins - Neath abbey was founded in 1130 by the Norman Baron, Richard de Granville. It was described as the ‘Fairest Abbey in all Wales’ by Tudor Historian John Leland. The Abbey enjoyed varying fortunes, and was finally dissolved by Henry VII in 1539. The Abbey’s location, on the banks of the Tennant Canal, makes it a tranquil and memorable site for the visitor. Cwm Gwrelych Heritage Trail - Right on our doorstep is the Cwm Gwrelych Heritage Trail, a site of national geological importance. We are proud to say that it is known as 'Merfyn's Walk', a trail named after my late husband and the information points relate to Merfyn's childhood spent playing and exploring in the area. This is an absolutely unique experience and has quickly become a 'must do' with our visitors. Walkers and cyclists are always welcome, with secure storage available for bicycles.
  • Yr Hen Stabl was the perfect base for our week-long holiday in the Valleys. It's a lovely cosy cottage, with everything you could want. It's been very thoughtfully renovated using natural materials, eco-friendly and beautifully decorated with lovely arts and crafts. At the end of every day exploring the local area, we would come back, sit in the lovely conservatory or garden to enjoy the last of the sunny day, watching the bees and butterflies hard at work. It was heaven! We were lucky with gorgeous weather all week and we spent a lot of time mountain biking (the village is within half an hour of Afan forest park, less than half an hour to Bike Park Wales, and just over an hour to the Forest of Dean, as well as being on the edge of the Brecon Beacons with so many trails to ride there!); hiking (loads of local waterfalls no need to drive to, plus the unmissable Merfyn's trail on the doorstep, exploring local history and wildlife); and exploring the local attractions (Dan-yr-Ogof caves are nearby, with a great dinosaur park for children big and small!). This was one of the best holidays we have ever had - Margaret was such a great host, so quick to respond to any questions and such a warm and welcoming lady. We were so sad to leave, but very much hope to return next year for more adventures!

  • A warm ‘croeso’ welcome and a most hospitable host awaits you at this gorgeous little stable conversion. Mod cons with hints of nostalgia and Welsh touches make for a comfortable and relaxing stay. A scenic location ideally situated to explore the waterfalls, Beacons and the Gower. We loved Merfyn’s Memory Walk - hidden away from the crowds. Thank you Margaret for sharing your lovely home. Jo and Mum Stella.

  • Such comfy beds and beautiful place. Loved the conservatory and the little touches. Local tips were great . Would definitely come again!

  • The cottage is lovely and Margaret is just as nice! It's set in a beautiful location and it always lifted my mood when I looked out the windows or left the house and saw the surrounding nature. It was the perfect size for my family get away, like a fairy tale cottage. It has only further solidified my wish to one day live in Wales, and I would be happy to move into somewhere like this.

  • Margaret is a delightful host who has created a cottage out of a converted hayloft which is full of personal and very Welsh touches.

  • Dear Margaret, Thanks for your hospitality. In spite of the weather we had a great time in Yr Hen Stabl. We love your tomatoes, we love your cozy stable...and you're such a nice person! Best regards, Peter, Miriam and Fons.
