  • Well what can I say about woodpecker lodge? Absolutely amazing! We wanted a quiet and relaxing weekend to de stress and this log cabin was exactly the perfect place! The cabin was stylish and comfy. The kitchen well equipped for all needs and the log burner was amazing on the cold nights. We loved the hot tub with multi function and lights and even enjoyed it during stormy weather with torrential rain which made it even more special! Keith and his wife were awesome hosts and totally went above and beyond for us when we had a flat tyre! These guys are truly awesome and we will be recommending this place to our friends and family!

  • We had the best time at Woodpecker Lodge! The location is beautiful, private and so peaceful. The hot tub (an absolute favourite) and the wood burner made our stay extra special. Our great hosts responded quickly and couldn’t do enough to help. As a group we would absolutely recommend Woodpecker Lodge and we fully intend on returning for a longer stay in the future! :)

    Jo2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful log cabin set among the forest. Best thing about it was sitting in the hot tub with the star spattered sky above you, listening to the sounds of the wild like an owl and its chicks. You don’t get to hear or see much of that in the city! The cabin was spotless, the log burner a cosy touch and the kitchen was well stocked with every utensil, pan etc. you could possibly need. Perfect little break away and I would recommend to anyone!

    Sarah2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Woodpecker Lodge is perfect! It’s clean and has everything you could possibly need. It’s in a secluded location and therefore you have your privacy. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

  • Really cosy and romantic cabin with plenty of space. We stayed in woodpecker lodge with a hot tub for three nights. For our first night we only had one neighbour but thankfully the hot tub is mostly covered by a wooden screen - the hot tub next door was the other side of some bushes and we could hear the others but it didn’t disturb us. Access to the hot tub was a little chilly as you can’t go from the cabin door down the steps to it, there’s a wooden ramp before hand but once you’re in the tub it’s lovely. The shop was shut when we went to visit for more drinks or kindling (you get enough for 1 fire) but we sent a message and they opened up quickly for us. We were given detailed maps and some recommendations of where to go and what to see. We did the pooh sticks walk which was about 3 miles in total and had some nice views. The amenities were clean but the crockery and cutlery was all poorly washed so we had to clean things as we used them - that’s most likely the fault of previous occupants though and not necessarily the hosts. All in all a positive experience, it was a relaxing, charming atmosphere and comfortable.

  • I would highly recommend this beautiful place. So relaxing and cosy. Staff are very helpful and friendly with giving tips on what to do locally. I would love to come back again.

  • Woodpecker Lodge is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The lodge is bigger than it looks in the photos, and has absolutely everything you need. The hot tub was lovely and warm, and perfect for relaxing after a long day of walking. The lodge is cosy and very warm and welcoming. We will definitely be coming back again.

    Laura2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Woodpecker Lodge is great. Stayed for 4 nights with our dog and we had a fantastic time. The cabin has all the amenities you will need, and is spotlessly clean. There is a small wood burning stove which makes it nice and cozy. The hot tub is lovely and warm and the cabin is secluded by woodland all around to give you some privacy. Its located only a short drive form the coast and we visited Lyme Regis (lovely place) and Torquay. Would definitely recommend Woodpecker Lodge and Keith and his family are great hosts.

Little Staddles is a contemporary cedar clad chalet, set in a pretty woodland, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind, with a huge cosy bed, woodburner, bath and kitchen area.
Little Staddles has been designed as a luxurious hideaway - a place where you can listen to the woodpeckers and owls and maybe spot a deer roaming in the woodland whilst soaking in the freestanding bath. Adjacent to our family home Little Staddles is the perfect retreat. Exterior Little Staddles is a separate building. It has its own access with private off road parking and a very private decked area with sun loungers, chimnea/bbq and a table. This space has been carefully landscaped with wild flowers and shrubs. The accommodation is located up steps and accessed from its balcony which has a beautiful sunny aspect. Interior There is a cosy seating area with LED television and a wood burner, including a large supply of logs. The open plan space also has a kitchen area with breakfast bar, sink, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave oven, toaster, kettle, 2 ring gas hob and all you need to make breakfast or simple meals. There is a Bialetti espresso gas top maker, a cafetière and a lavazza milk heater and frothier to make the perfect coffee! There is a superking size bed with a sumptuous goose down duvet and mattress topper which should ensure a great nights sleep. The bathroom is indulgent, with a freestanding bath where you can relax and enjoy the woodland views and there is a very spacious walk in shower. There is also an ipod dock, Dab radio and wifi.
On our doorstep are some lovely walks into the woodlands and down to River Cottage H.Q. (which is a 30 minute walk away), or you can walk into Lyme Regis (which takes about an hour). A 10 minute drive will also have you in Lyme Regis, where you can stumble upon lovely cafes and restaurants, artisan shops and galleries, stroll along the seafront, find a fossil or two or simply sit and relax. This, the Jurassic Coastline is an area full of dramatic scenery and beautiful coastal walks. I will try and put photos of the local area and details of any local events on our (website hidden) page, Little Staddles
  • Claire is so great with communication and there for anything you need. This is probably the calmest and most relaxing Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in and just what I needed. Spotless, beautiful and cosy. Hope to return in the future. So lovely to feel like you’re out in the sticks but just a short drive from many great locations. I particularly loved the golden cap walk suggested by Claire. Such a great stay.

    Lauren2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at the hideaway. Would highly recommend for a cosy break. The road up the accommodation is quite steep but is fine for a car.

    Emily2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is really a top notch Airbnb. Its stylish and super comfortable, ideal for a weekend break for 2. The place is very modern with well designed features and ameneties. Its one open plan space (bed, living and kitchen) but is not what you'd describe as a studio. The thoughtful architecture makes it feel like separate rooms. The bathroom is really special, lovely fittings and immaculately presented. Loved it! Claire is also charming and very helpful.

    Richard2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little place. Very serene surroundings and perfectly situated to explore Dorset and Devon.

    Patrick2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect hide away for 2. The apartment is compact so wonderfully cosy, but at the same time has every amenity you could need. Stunning location. Perfect for River Cottage (walkable but would only recommend it in the summer) less than 5 minutes drive away.

    Kevin2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • By far the nicest air bnb we have been too. Beautiful venue, perfect to relax and unwind. Very clean and modern with lots of little personal touches. Super comfy bed and the most amazing bathroom ever! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it highly.

  • We would stay again in a heartbeat! Absolutely gorgeous!

    Nina2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at Little Staddles! Perfect location and such a lovely apartment - beautifully decorated with so many nice touches. The pictures don’t do it justice, it is so modern and luxurious! We will definitely be back - it was the perfect mini break for 2! Thanks so much Claire x

One of the most popular properties in the UK on Airbnb! Great value for this amazing cosy log cabin. This property is extremely popular and has amazing reviews. Comfy with amazing views make this the perfect place to stay on holiday. Valley lodge is tucked away with lovely views of the valley and the sea beyond, secluded with a Sunny open plan living room, kitchen/dining and sofas around the wood burner. Delightful walks from the cabin and Very near Lyme Regis on the beautiful Jurassic Coast.
Coronavirus- You could quite happily self isolate here as this property is away from lots of houses and people but you are not very far away from civilisation if you need anything !!! Please be assured that due to the current situation I am making sure this property is cleaned thoroughly with AnitVirus products and every door knob , light switch and surface has been given special attention. This lovely property is completely self contained and there is only 1 confirmed case in the whole of Dorset ( 14/3/20). Whilst I appreciate the huge concern I am wanting guests to understand that you can come here to get away from it all and relax and spend some quality time in a beautiful location. As soon as you walk into the cabin, you know that there is something special about being surrounded by wood. The open plan living space works really well too. It means that whoever is cooking can still chat with friends and family while they are relaxing on the sofas. So no one is left out. And the views are amazing. The cabin is open plan living, with 2 double bedrooms a shower room and utility with washer/dryer. We will leave you some kindling and a few logs for the woodburner. The petrol station sells wood if you need more. There is Parking outside for two cars. Decking with picnic table. Enclosed garden with grass lawns. Bring your BBQ and entertain amongst these wonderful views. You can all Relax in the knowledge that your dogs and children will be safe from escaping with a good secure fence all around the property. Guests are given complete privacy. We are around, however, if there is a problem. Uplyme is very convenient. It is easy to get to from the main road and Lyme Regis is only 5 minutes by car. There is a lovely walk from the cabin down the river valley to the sea (map in the cabin). It takes about 40 minutes on foot. Other beautiful places to walk, like Golden Cap, also on the coast are not too far away. Lyme itself is charming and quirky. it is the most beautiful town and extremely popular. Lyme Regis has made the top ten places to stay by both The Times and The Guardian and we have many a famous visitor staying here and ITV’ s travel expert ‘Simon Calder’ has visited regularly and highly recommends this gorgeous town. Lyme Regis is unspoilt and with its amazing scenery and strong arty vibe it remains one of the most searched for places to stay in the UK. It has lots of independent shops and cafes too which make it a perfect place to holiday or visit. The local petrol station in Uplyme has a brilliant shop and post office if you need anything quickly. The best places to buy food are either Axminster where there is a good butcher, or Felicity's Farm shop on the way to Bridport but the farm shop in Kilmington is where us locals shop and it is a great place to buy gifts and find special food and it even has a fresh fishmongers and florist ! Superstores- Waitrose in Bridport. Tesco’s stores are in Axminster and Seaton and Lyme Regis has a smaller Tescos and Coop There is a bus from Uplyme to Lyme Regis or Axminster. The nearest mainline station is at Axminster which is about 10 minutes away. There is parking for two cars outside the log cabin. We provide bedlinen and bath towels, but not beach towels. So please bring your own if you want to spend time on the beach. Lyme has a lovely sandy area of beach, right by the pub for adults and safe for children. The cabin is wonderful and we have had some fantastic reviews. This beautiful gem is one of the most popular properties on Airbnb in the uk and our repeat guests that come back each year is testament that this place is pretty special! The area is ideal for holidays and there is lots to do or if you prefer you can do absolutely nothing except relax , read a good book with a glass of wine and just enjoy the peace and tranquility of the cabin. If you want a holiday with straight lines , minimal decor and lots of Crome then the cabin is not for you but if you like warmth, cosy , rustic surroundings , lots of nature, stunning views , good pubs and fantastic food, then this place is ideal !
There is also lots do to locally and there are some wonderful places to eat out in Lyme Regis. There is Hix's famous seafood restaurant and River cottage in Axminster are both amazing. Also there is lots of good restaurants and pubs in Lyme Regis and there is also a great Indian restaurant in Lyme , a Thai restaurant and on the sandy part of the beach there are two highly recommended pubs called The standard and The Harbour. You will find these are some great places to eat and drink whilst enjoying the stunning views which overlook the world famous cobb. Pub of the year is just down the road which is The Anchor Inn in Seatown Places for children- Lyme museum Sea world, Weymouth Crealy Adventure park ( rides , rollercoasters and a great day out) - about 25 minutes away between Sidmouth and Exeter. The donkey Sanctuary nr Sidmouth Abbotsbury Swannery Go climb - Exeter Charmouth tunnel - which is very local to here has a shooting range and a tree tops course.
  • A delightful and cosy log cabin. Very comfy bed. Wonderful area. A place to escape and relax. Great walks to Lyme Regis.

Stunning, quiet little cottage nestled in the hills of Marshwood Vale 3 miles from the sea. Sip wine on the terrace surrounded by wildlife, stargaze from your bed or visit all the wonderful things Lyme Regis, Bridport and this area have to offer.
A delightful little cottage at the edge of a quiet village set in the Marshwood Vale. Wonderful walking through the vale, to the sea, or on the national trust land along the coast, all from your front door or a very short drive. Maps in the cottage and we are happy to help with routes. Although for two it is very spacious, with a large double bedroom, skylight above the bed, (with a blackout blind if you prefer no starlight!) large cottage kitchen diner, sitting room, wonderful bathroom with extra deep enamel bath and drenching shower. Outside you have the decked, covered terrace with masses of seating, comfy chairs and dining chairs/table, and patio heaters. The house is full of character and light, a truly restful place to be with masses to do on your doorstep. The cottage allows for a dog or two, the garden has a dog proof fence around it...unless they are high jumpers. We don't allow them in the bedroom and there is a gate to stop them.
Bonhays Barn is ideally situated for the Jurassic Coast, wonderful walking, watersports and the vibrant local towns of Bridport and Lyme Regis. Bridport with its markets (Weds/Sat), vintage section and wonderful Cafes and restaurants. Lyme Regis is famous for its beauty as a seaside town, restaurants and many festivals throughout the summer.
  • Very cute cottage, well equipped and clean with lots of thoughtful touches such as local maps, games, DVDs and a fantastic mini library! Lovely peaceful outside area and a great base for hiking.

  • Lovely comfortable cottage; kitchen is a joy to cook in and there’s a lovely deck to sit on and enjoy the sunshine. Quiet & peaceful place to stay!

  • We really enjoyed our stay here. It's very peaceful, tranquil, with beautiful views and a great location for exploring the area. Tony was very welcoming with info on local walks etc and gave us a lovely breakfast hamper. The cottage itself is warm, cosy and perfect for two people. Highly recommended.

    Jonathan & Lisa2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a fabulous discovery! This cottage is perfect for those who wish to escape the rat race and unwind completely immersed in nature. Charmouth and Lyme Regis are only a short drive away - great for fossil hunters! Sophie and Tony are excellent hosts - we were welcomed warmly and offered loads of local advice and recommendations. Whilst we knew they were on hand if we needed anything, we appreciated being left us to ourselves to relax and enjoy the space fully. The delicious welcome basket is a yummy and delightful touch, thank you! The cottage has everything one could ask for and was lovely and warm despite Storm Dennis raging. We loved waking up to bird song and cows in the fields. The view from the patio is breathtakingly beautiful - on a warmer day I could see myself sitting there for hours sketching or reading. All in all, we had a terrific stay and hope to return another time. Thank you.

    Amanda2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is an outstanding place. Everything in the description is spot on. Very warm and cosy and much more spacious than I had imagined from the pictures. The surrounding countryside is beautiful as well. Thoroughly recommend. I really did not want to leave.

    Frances2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is lovely, spacious for a couple and very cosy. The layout of the cottage allows for various activities without feeling like you’re on top of each other- for example my partner watched one of the many DVD’s they supply for their guests while I sat in the kitchen doing a puzzle. We were both able to do our own thing while still being in each other’s company and chatting from the kitchen table to the living room. The bedroom upstairs is spacious and clean, the window being in the roof allows for star gazing at night which is an added bonus! It is a 15 minute journey into town (Bridport)and a 15 minute drive into Lyme Regis. There is a pub about 2 minute drive from the cottage which is good for a cheeky pint or 2! Both Sophie and Tony were fantastic hosts, even though the cottage was closed to their house they never imposed. It was nice to be left to our own devises but they were also happy to answer any questions and give advice on what is good to do around the local area. We will definitely be back and have no doubts in recommending this as a place to stay to friends and family. Great getaway, great cottage and even better hosts!

Small and cosy country getaway complete with wood burner and garden that opens on to fields and forest with the opportunity for endless walks yet close enough to the surrounding beaches and restaurants.
PLEASE NOTE MINIMUM STAY OF 3 NIGHTS FOR PEAK HOLIDAY PERIODS THE COTTAGE: The cottage has a sitting room with wood burner & dry stack of wood, a walk-through dining area with door to the garden and a well equipped kitchen. On the first floor there are 2 bedrooms, one with a king size bed the other with 2 singles all made up with fresh bed linen and towels. The bathroom has a bath with shower. Outside is a sweet garden that includes a sun trap with garden table and chairs. The back of the garden takes you straight into nature and numerous walks. THE AREA: Just under 10 miles from the Jurassic coastline and Lyme Regis, the cottage is a true haven where you can trade city life for the tranquility of country life. Thorncombe is a popular village complete with charming shop, church and a school with keys available for use of their small swimming pool in the summer months. Wind your way through the narrow lanes to nearby towns such as Beaminster and Bridport, whether sampling the local brew or just pottering through the Art and Vintage Quarter. Take in a movie at Bridport's wonderfully renovated arts cinema or a wood fire pizza on the beach at West Bay. Maybe go to River Cottage Canteen and Deli in Axminster. There are excellent restaurants and pubs to recommend in every direction and after walking off lunch you can put your feet up by the log fire with a good read. If summer days are calling there's lots to do with the kids, exploring beaches and hunting for fossils on the world famous Jurassic coastline or a trip out fishing for mackerel from Lyme's picturesque harbour. For fun closer to home, the village has a small playground just 3 minutes from the cottage complete with football field and basket ball hoop. A short walk away there's a forest, great for making dens or getting lost amongst the bluebells. For further indulgence try a slice of cake in the village shop. SUMMARY: A holiday to remember no matter your age, with one of the most beautiful swathes of countryside on your door step recognized as an Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty bordering Somerset, Devon & Dorset. A car to explore is really an essential unless you are content to explore on foot; the village shop is stocked well for all groceries and local produce and has a small deli counter. There are a number of farm shops further afield. Depending on the kind of break you are looking for, there are many great walks and days out to recommend with some excellent restaurants to match.
A very popular village immersed in stunning countryside within easy reach of the beaches. If you're planning on enrolling on one of the local courses we are well located for Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall's River Cottage HQ or Guy Mallinson's Wood Craft Workshops. Right here in Thorncombe, you could sign up for one of Hannah Lovegrove's Yoga classes.
  • The Cottage is bijou but beautifully decorated and well supplied. We had everything we needed and more. Thorncombe is a lovely village, the Community Shop / Village Store is an excellent local resource.

  • We had a wonderful time! The cottage is super cosy and in a great location to get around- both by car and local walks. We felt very at home there! It's also dog friendly which was great for us and our Labrador. Parking is available on the road outside the cottage and check in was straightforward with the lockbox. Caz was easy and quick to communicate with. I would certainly recommend this cottage as a great country/ seaside getaway!

    Lucy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the cottage which is perfectly located to explore the Dorset, Devon & Somerset countries and cost. We spent Christmas at the cottage which was the perfect setting for a cosy day and a nice Christmas Day walk. We had everything we needed and all the info provided by Caz was super helpful to make the most of our time.

  • A cozy cottage deep in the countryside and perfect for a relaxing escape. Very conveniently located for country walks and the coast - wish we had longer to explore!

  • Caz’s place is a delightful, homely cottage situated in a charming traditional terrace in a very peaceful village location. It is very clean and well equipped and feels pleasantly lived in and loved. We found the wood burning stove a great asset for a November stay and there was a plentiful supply of logs. The surrounding countryside is very appealing, especially if you enjoy walks, and the coast is also nearby. Highly recommended for a peaceful, relaxing stay.

    Bud2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy and homely little cottage in lovely rural setting. We loved the snug living room with it’s log burning stove, had amazing nights sleep in the warm and comfy bedroom with its king size bed and complete darkness and quiet, and walking straight out the back garden through fields and woods with countryside in all directions. The kitchen is small but manageable and the shower is hot and strong. Good location to visit surrounding area by car, Seatown and the Golden Cap have great dog walks. Caz also provided some great recommendations on where to eat nearby, The Lord Poulett was particularly good. All in all, a very peaceful and relaxing stay. Thank you Caz.

    Sally2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A really cute cottage with lovely sense of style. Very comfortable and cosy. In a very attractive setting with a village store staffed by friendly locals. Kitchen very well equipped with mod cons. Amazingly quiet and dark at night - so restful for those who live in cities. Wonderful place for exploring the beautiful countryside of Dorset. Half an hour to the sea if you want to do the south west coast path which we would highly recommend. Caz was a pleasure to deal with. We will return. Many thanks for the hospitality.

Peaceful self-contained studio apartment adjoining owners' eco-house set in its own woodland and wild meadows with spectacular sea views from garden. Beautiful walks to Lyme (2 miles) & River Cottage (1 mile). Stunning retreat in nature. Walkers/bird-lovers/foodies paradise. 1 of 2 studios with plenty of outside space. This is the larger of the 2 with a bath instead of a shower, a bigger kitchen and distinct areas for kitchen and bedroom.
A former artist's studio, the apartment is a modern airy space within a wild, woodland setting. It has been newly decorated (and redecorated January 2017) throughout and has a particularly spacious bathroom with a large comfortable bath and views out to the woods to the south and a wild flower bank and natural spring to the west. It is perfectly located for some truly wonderful walks: the East Devon Way adjoins the property and there are several beautiful routes through the countryside to Lyme Regis, including the River Way along the River Lyme into the centre of town. It's about an hour's walk to the Cobb or to the Town Mill cluster of shops, restaurants and galleries or 10 minutes' drive. You can have a great day on the beach or walking and then come home to the seclusion of the woods and meadows. We have some of the best bird and wildlife around. You will hear owls calling in the evenings and maybe spot a badger snuffling about in the garden. Bird-feeders are positioned opposite the bedroom and bathroom windows so you can watch in comfort. We are in the process of restoring the wild meadows and have a mass of wild orchids, bluebells, foxgloves and native daffodils, depending on the time of year. There are views of Lyme Bay and the island of Portland from the top meadow where a bench is provided for your use. The room is designed mainly for 2 people but we do have a z-bed (fold-out bed) to accommodate an extra person. The main bed is a king-size with a slatted base and a soft reflex foam mattress. The bedlinen is 100% Egyptian cotton. We now have a new TV for the room and a music system with a cable to plug in your phone/ipod. There is a DVD player in the room.
This is a fantastic setting for a holiday with the gorgeous and wild beaches of East Devon and West Dorset on the doorstep, the outstanding Jurassic Coast with its National Trust walks, fossil hunting, fishing, sailing and kayaking opportunities, and a huge network of footpaths and bridleways immediately accessible from the house. It is also foodie heaven. River Cottage HQ at Park Farm is just the other side of the woods and can be reached by road or on foot. It's about 30/40 mins walk up the lane and through the woods. The more informal River Cottage Canteen is just 2 miles away in Axminster. In Lyme Regis (also 2 miles) is Mark Hix's Oyster House with knock-out views across the bay to Portland and also the Harbour Inn right on the front which does fantastic fish and has a seating area on the beach. There are lots of lovely bakeries and coffee spots, a theatre and many quirky independent shops. Lyme Regis, Axminster, Bridport and Seaton are all great little towns with their own characters.
  • A lovely, peaceful woodland spot. (We saw 17 different species of garden birds in just three days)! Perfect for a peaceful retreat away from the busy world.

  • Tucked away up a bumpy road lays a set of grand gates that open automatically on your arrival. As you drive through the gates be careful of the centre piece gate stopper, if your car is low, otherwise you'll hear the same noise we did! There was plenty of space to park our car and Chris was very kind and showed us where our accommodation was, giving us a brief explanation of how to use the facilities. He also was able to tell us how to find our way into Lyme Regis on foot with a recomendation of a great coffee shop. We enjoyed our stay....Thank you.

  • Stunning and stylish studio, good value for money and kind hosts. We loved it and we will be back when we can. The space is bigger than it looks in photos and peaceful. We woke up and watched birds and squirrels out the window. Great time out for busy people!!

  • A superbly equipped haven in beautiful surroundings with thoughtful and generous hosts.

    Suzy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy and comfortable hideaway up the hill from Yawl. A great location for exploring the surrounding woodlands, or a walk down to Lyme. The small kitchen has all you need and there were complimentary biscuits and milk. Recommended. Thanks Jules and Chris

    Carl2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, bright and modern. A warm welcome from beginning to end. Chris & Jules live in a beautiful part of the country :) Would stay here again!

    Lucy2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a glorious place to stay in a fabulous setting. Jules was really helpful explaining the walks and chris surpassed all expectation by helping to start my dead car. The place was so pretty and spotless and the sauna was a great extra which I took advantage of. If you were staying right in Lyme you might never discover the wonderful river lym walk that I went on to get into town following the river until it reached the Lyme mill. A truly wonderful autumn retreat!

    Teresa2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • All of the reviews do not lie with this place! The most attentive and lovely hosts, and the space they have it just unbelievable gorgeous. Jules was really helpful and recommended the best food place we've visited in a long time. The area was great for lots of nice walks and just up the road from lyme regis. Cant wait to stay again!

The hut was so cosy and comforting and packed full of lovely little goodies like chocolates and croissants. Perfect for snuggling! Also, would be great as a comfortable base to explore the beautiful local conutryside. Ei's instructions were spot on and also the info given on the surrounding area was great too :)

  • Would 100% recommend staying hefe. If you are thinking about it..do it! It provides a peaceful getaway in a beautiful location woth lots nearby to explore. The hut is super comfy and cosy. It heated up very easily with the log burning stove. We enjoyed our breakfast outside with beautiful views over the fields. We had a super stay and Ei was always very quick to respond to messages, very helpful and there were lots of thoughtful touches in the hut.

    Emily2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Ei for your warm & welcoming hospitality. The Shepherd's Hut is so warm & cosy with everything you need. It definitely has the WOW factor. The breakfast & other goodies were very thoughtful. We loved the views, the star gazing; such a little gem in a calm & tranquil setting. We will stay longer next time! Thank you again, Lee & Chris.

  • Beautiful setting, lovely little hut. Really peaceful and nice and quiet. Ei is a lovely host with the really thoughtful little touches, the croissants were a lovely touch as was the jam! Would recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful get away. Defiantly will be coming back in the not so distant future!

    George2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an incredible few nights in this beautiful shepherd's hut. Ei is the best host ever! This hut is thoughtfully decorated with beautiful pictures of hares and other nature. The space has everything you need for your stay and the views from bed are amazing! We spent many hours starwatching and listening to hooting tawny owls. And woke up late as we couldn't stop birdwatching from bed in the mornings. The fire makes it toasty warm and it's the most romantic place and really private. Bed is really comfy, shower is excellent and the breakfast was perfect for relaxing in the mornings. We can't wait to return.

    Emily2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ei was very welcoming and went the extra mile ,leaving nice surprises for us. The hut was beautiful and we already miss the local owls

    Jess2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherd's cottage was everything I expected and more! I can't think of ANYTHING that was not considered in the details. There was also a cheese plate and prosecco in the refrigerator along with other snacks and drinks in addition to croissants, coffee, tea, milk etc. The cottage is very cozy with wonderful and relaxing views and beautiful areas to walk. I would definitely return on another venture to the area. Thanks, Ei!

Nearby is the beautiful Forde Abbey and gardens which are within walking distance of Little Knapp (about 2 miles) and well worth a visit. The village is only about 9 miles from stunning Lyme Regis and other coastal areas such as West Bay, Eype, Burton Bradstock and Charmouth. The walking around Thorncombe is fantastic with over 40 miles of footpaths so bring your walking boots. The village also has an active Sports and Social club which is open every evening. • Little Knapp is a great place to stay. It is stylish, clean and has everything you need and a few kind extras on arrival. It is situated in a lovely village with a local community shop and centrally located to visit lots of places. Great communication with the owners beforehand and a visit from Cheryl on the day of check in. We have thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Little Knapp and hope to return soon.

This lorry is a well equipped accommodation for 2 people. It is sited at the top of the field with stunning views of the sea and opposite valley . It is is completely insulated with wool and has a wood burning stove, making it suitable for use all year round and a perfect romantic getaway .
The lorry comprises of 2 areas. A living and kitchen area (approximately 9'x8') and a bedroom (approximately 6'x8'). The lorry is insulated with sheeps wool and clad in wood. There is a 12v solar electrical system that that powers lights in both the kitchen and bedroom and a usb/cigarette lighter wall socket. The kitchen has a full size gas cooker , sink and a comprehensive set of utensils and crockery. Basics such as salt, sugar, oil, vinegar and tea are provided. There is an electric cool box under the lorry which can be plugged in when required or cool blocks can be put in it. The kitchen has a table and 2 chairs. There is a comfy sofa next to the wood burning stove. Wood is provided for the stove. The bedroom has a luxury wool topped double bed. The duvet and and pillows are all made from british wool and the bedding is made from 100% cotton. There are lots of windows in the vehicle giving it a light airy feel. The windows are furnished with thick cotton curtains. Outside the lorry there is a fire pit so you can sit and keep warm while enjoying the incredible view or cook on the open fire. There are compost loos on the site and a shower block.
Brig’s Farm is on the south facing side of the Char Valley away from the hustle and bustle of the Jurassic Coast. Charmouth beach, famous for its fossil hunting , is just a short drive ( 7 minutes ). Alternatively you can walk there along the meandering River Char through beautiful meadows ( 40-55 mins ). Charmouth has a well equipped village store for all your provisions. Lyme Regis is also close by , it’s a bit more of an adventure to walk there but about 15 minutes in a car. There are lots of possibilities for beautiful walks. There’s a lovely woodland behind the farm with options to walk to the local hill forts. From Charmouth you can access the South West Coast path, I can recommend walking east through St. Gabriel’s and onto Golden Cap. There are some absolutely stunning wildflower meadows along the way. If you are as particular about good food as I am, I can suggest two pubs. The Tytherleigh Arms, who do amazing Sunday roasts, and the Shave’s Cross, which is a beautiful 16th century pub with a lovely garden and open fire in the winter. There are 2 farm shops that sell local produce close by on the A35, Felicity’s to the east and Miller’s to the west.
  • Great! We had a lovely stay - super cosy with the log burner so a great option when missing those summer camping trips. The view from bed when you open the curtains in the morning is brilliant! The accommodation was very clean and could not fault this in any way. Breakfast was well cooked and selection of drinks was vast. I loved my ginger and lemon tea, and my dad certainly loved the Nespresso on offer (sorry if he cleaned you out! ;-)) Nigel as a host was warm and welcoming, we came to Charmouth to fossil hunt so it great that he had some good knowledge of this and the surrounding areas. • The Studio is really super, spacious, stylish, beautifully equipped, warm and cosy with a very comfortable bed and lots of thoughtful touches, what more could one ask for ! Dawn is the perfect host, engaging and informative , we so enjoyed meeting her and will look forward to returning to The Studio.

  • When you stay somewhere you want a home from home that doesn't require a lot of extra thought for you to adapt to it. Where your host has put time and thought into what they are providing. Location is important, but the space itself is a big consideration. The Studio is all that the web page says and then some. For a couple, it is ample room for a spring visit with rain. Handy for lots of places that the A35 can get you back and forth from. Would we visit West Somerset/East Devon again? Yes. If so, where would we stay? Well, having discovered the Studio, why would we stay somewhere else?

    Nigel2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, bright and spacious apartment. Was warm and cosy during a wet and windy February half term stay. A good location just a short drive from Lyme Regis and Charmouth. Thank you Dawn.

  • ‘The Studio’ is a really stylish space, it’s been really well thought out and is very comfortable and very clean. We were visiting the River Cottage for a cookery course and feast and it was an easy 10 min drive away. Dawn was very quick to respond and very friendly and welcoming. The welcome included some lovely treats of freshly laid eggs, biscuits, muesli and milk etc We’d definitely recommend The Studio it has a lovely cosy feel to it and has everything you could need.

  • We booked this place as we were having dinner at River Cottage. Carlo was very helpful in giving us local tips and taxi numbers. Communication was excellent and he responded very quickly to emails. He also accommodated my fussy dietary needs for breakfast! The place is beautiful- surrounded by lovely countryside, quiet and peaceful, comfy bed, and well equipped with a fridge, kettle, plenty of space, and a clean bathroom. Definitely recommend staying here. If we were here longer we would have made the most of Carlo’s local knowledge and walk recommendations.

A beautifully restored historic coach house situated in the countryside outside the market town of Axminster. The property is only a few miles from the coastal towns of Lyme Regis and Beer and the Blackdown Hills and Dorset AONB.
Guests will enjoy the entire coach house to themselves. The property comes with a fully equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, TV, wood burner, and underfloor heating throughout. The coach house is situated in beautiful grounds including a lake and woods. The Coach House is not suitable for children due to its open plan layout.
Axminster is situated between the Blackdown Hills and Dorset Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The area is renowned for great walks and cross country cycling with many routes beginning from Axminster. Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coastline are only a few miles away. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage HQ is located just outside Axminster and his Canteen in Axminster itself is a great place for lunch, dinner, or even just a coffee. Lyme Regis is also home to Hix Oyster & Fish House, the celebrated fish restaurant from London. If the beach, walks, or food are not your cup of tea then perhaps antique hunting is... Axminster and the surrounding towns have many antique and second-hand shops. Every Sunday afternoon in the summer months Axminster hosts a generous car-boot sale where plenty of gems can be found. Honiton is only a few miles away and its famous high street is lined with antique shops.
  • Absolutely wonderful stay at the coach house. Stylish, luxury, cosy and warm. Set in beautiful Devonshire countryside, it had everything that we could’ve needed for a nice relaxing weekend away. Host was always on hand if needed, and fantastic communications. Thank you Nicky, will definitely stay again!

    Kezman2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Nicky and Alistair's place is truly stunning! It is set back from the road up a long drive which makes the setting really peaceful. Saying that, you are only a 20 min walk (or 5 min car drive) from Axminster town centre. We loved the cream tea waiting for us on arrival (just one of the many little touches). The open plan nature of the property makes it feel really light and spacious. It was really warm and cosy with underfloor heating and a log burner. They have provided literally everything you could want for a relaxing break in the countryside. We loved wandering around the grounds of Sector Hall which feature a lovely lake complete with ducks. We fell in love with the property and would definitely go back for another stay!

  • This was our third visit to The Coach House, which says it all really. Lovely, spacious and high spec with underfloor heating, log burner and powerful shower. Big kitchen with range cooker, dishwasher etc. Quiet location in the grounds of the owner’s house, but separate and private. Surrounded by fields but only 5 mins drive from Axminster. Highly recommended!

    Alex2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach House is a lovely and cosy getaway property, and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming. We were delighted with the additional touch of some scones, jam and clotted cream, which was a very nice touch. Our dog Cookie was very welcome and enjoyed walks in the woods.

    Blake2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really lovely place. Everything was the highest quality and spotlessly clean. We loved the huge shower with constant hot water and the large comfy bed. The grounds are beautiful and we were able to spend a lovely couple of hours down by the lake enjoying the Autumn colours.

    Rosemary2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! Were greeted with a smile even in the torrential rain and welcomed into the very cosy coachhouse. Very spacious with everything you could need and more. Our dog absolutely loved exploring the amazing grounds surrounding the accomodation which is kindly allowed. The sun came out for our trip to Lyme Regis which is only 10-15 minutes away and we would happily come back again, maybe for longer next time!

    Matthew2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had an Amazing few days staying at The Coach House. Unfortunately the Weather was not on our side & it rained the whole time, but being in such a Beautiful House in a Magnificent setting, it didn’t bother us (even with 2 dogs). Everything you need is there, and small touches like chocolates on the pillows to handmade soap & fresh flowers was such a nice surprise. This was our 1st time staying in an Airbnb,, I hope everyone else can live up to the Coach House. Thank you Nicky we will definitely be back soon x

  • Sally's Hygge Hideaway was a fantastic place for a secluded weekend break. The property is tastefully decorated and everything is to a high spec. On a wet and windy weekend, the log stove was a real treat and left us more than happy to spend most of the day in this cosy retreat. Sally was a pleasure to deal with, communication was great and she went out of her way with some personal touches to greet us as well as bringing us some extra fuel for the fire on day 2 in the middle of a downpour! Would highly recommend a visit.

    Gary2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Hygge Hideaway was a lovely weekend escape to the Jurassic Coast. Impeccable design, and sparkling clean, it was perfect for a wintery weekend recharge. Very easy communication from Sally, with thoughtful meaningful touches thrown in to make it special. Brilliant to be within short walking distance (along the bridleway in the day, and along the road at night) from Lyme Regis itself, and we also enjoyed a long walk along Charmouth beach. Thank you very much!!

  • This is an excellent place to stay in Lyme Regis - ideal for a single person or couple. The small house is delightful and complete with everything that is needed for any type of break. John and Samantha are terrific hosts - very helpful (Samantha gave me a lift to Axminster so that I was able to get my connecting train back to London) and will offer any advice needed. If deciding to come to Lyme Regis, I would recommend you use their place as a base to explore the town and the surrounding areas.

A modern static caravan at the top of our Farmhouse garden overlooking open countryside. You will have your own entrance and parking. Should you need us during your stay someone is always on the farm. If you like walking there are many footpaths over our farm leading to Hawkchurch or Axminster. There is also a cycle path at the bottom of our road - Weycroft Mill. We are a 15-20 minute drive from the Jurassic coastline of Lyme Regis & Seaton. There are many pubs & restaurants we can recommend.
We live down a private stone track that is 1/2 a mile long and uneven so we would advise you to drive very slowly
Axminster has many coffee shops, pubs & shops. Also a varied selection of places to eat - Chinese, Indian, pizza, fish & chips and even a community waffle shop.
  • Fantastic location, peaceful with beautiful views all to yourself, a homely place with everything you need for a relaxing, chilled out stay. Would 100% book again, great for countryside lovers or townies who need to reconnect with the countryside. Amazing !

Many of our guests find The Garden Studio an excellent base if attending an event or course at River Cottage - a few minutes drive up the road or a 50 minute woodland walk through Trinity Hill Nature Reserve. Walkers, nature lovers, fossil hunters will all enjoy exploring the beaches and spectacular footpaths along the World Heritage Coastline. Twitchers will enjoy the bird hides at Seaton Wetlands or the popular bird-watching trips which give exclusive access to parts of the Axe Estuary via the Tramway. This area also boasts a wealth of historical and literary links. Lyme was granted a royal charter by Edward I in 1284 and is famous for its fossils and paleontoligist, Mary Anning, as well as the Monmouth Rebellion and smuggling. This is also Thomas Hardy country and Lyme's Cobb harbour is featured in Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' and John Fowles' novel, 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. If you want action and adventure, there are plenty of opportunities for mountain biking, horseriding, kayaking, paddle-boarding, deep-sea fishing etc.. You can even try shooting at The Tunnel (10 mins drive), training centre for Team GB.

  • What a lovely, cosy cottage. We had terrible weather (Storm Dennis) whilst in Lyme Regis and what a pleasure it was to arrive at a warm and cosy cottage. Beautifully decorated, comfortable beds and couches and some breakfast goodies (with amazing marmalade) left for us. The views were lovely from the cottage and the pub just a few doors down and a short drive to Lyme Regis. Brilliant stay, thanks Rachel!

The bedroom is beautiful with a huge bed and a lovely en-suite bathroom with a bath which is welcome after a long walk. There is also a shower in the downstairs bathroom and the kitchen is well equipped. We were sorry to leave the peace and quiet of the gorgeous countryside and hope to have more time to visit the farm itself next time. Thank you Hilary for a lovely stay.

Summerlands cottage has been recently extended so we have decided to let most of the old part of the cottage for people to enjoy.
The cottage is set right next to woodland so wildlife is abundant around the cottage gardens which you are welcome to use as long as you do not mind a dog, bees and deer! The accommodation includes a kitchen/dining room with cooking and washing facilities, a lounge with an inglenook fireplace and flagstones, bathroom/shower room (downstairs) and at present one double bedroom is available. There is a television with freesat in the sitting room and wi-fi around the house although the Internet speed is slow; mobile phone networks can be accessed but you have to pick your spot! Some parts of the cottage are over 300 years old so it has plenty of character as well as a log burner and central heating. There are also lovely views from the garden which gets plenty of sun being south facing. The other half of the cottage where we live is separated by internal locked doors on both floors. There is ample parking and generally we find it a chilled place to live.
The cottage is in a lovely rural location and very easily accessable from the A35. It is set in a small valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within easy reach of Lyme Regis with its Jurassic coastline and the market town of Axminster. Both towns have a good range of restaurants and pubs including the Harbour Inn and the Hix Oyster and Fish House, (both in Lyme Regis with lovely views) or there is the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. There are good takeaway facilities and shops in both towns and the Hunters Lodge pub and a small post office/general store are about a mile away, a 25 min walk from the cottage.
  • A lovely charming cottage in a wonderful location. It was calm and tranquil and the log fire was a very nice touch. We had a fantastic weekend break and the cottage provided everything we needed and was lovely and clean. I would definitely recommend it.

    Kelly2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Summerlands is lovely old cottage - cosy, clean and all you need for a relaxing stay. The location is great for local walks and for visiting the coast.

    Andrea2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous cottage set in a sheltered, sunny side of a quiet valley. Banks full of primroses and snowdrops and a woodland walk yards from the door. Wine and cookies and milk for when we arrived was a lovely touch. The cottage itself is full of character. Woodburning stove and books and games available. We had 2 lovely days exploring the Jurassic coast of Lyme Regis and Charmouth which are only 10 minutes away and found lots of fossils! Thoroughly recommend !

The Stable is a traditional stone outbuilding (circa 1775) located within our garden, hidden away in a wooded valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There are woodland walks, farmland and Forestry Commission footpaths right outside the door, and it's location is perfect for those looking for rural seclusion and proximity to nature. The spectacular Jurassic Coast and Undercliff are nearby, and Lyme regis is an 8 min drive (or 45 min walk).
The detached, single-storey building has a vaulted ceiling and is approx 5 x 3 metres with a kingsize bed, ensuite bathroom, TV and woodburner. There is a table and chairs for meals or relaxing, and tea/coffee facilities. There is no kitchen but the room is equipped with a microwave and small fridge. There's also cutlery, plates, glasses etc. A complimentary breakfast is left in the room (such as croissants, milk and cereal) on the first night. We have recently renovated the room which is furnished with simple but carefully chosen rustic furnishings and original artwork, while the bathroom is contemporary with a large walk-in shower.
Harcombe is a pretty rural hamlet on the side of a steep hill. There are high devonshire banks, fields and woods, and plenty of footpaths which criss-cross the valley and also lead down into Lyme Regis. The valley is a mixture of pastureland, orchard and woodland. Our local village, Uplyme, is about 1 1/2 miles away and has a church, a pub - the Talbot Arms, shop and filling station, while 3/4 mile back up the road from Harcombe on the A35 there is a post office and the Hunters Lodge Inn. We're at the heart of foodie heaven with the reknown River Cottage HQ nearby (approx 3 miles) the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster (2.5 miles), and acclaimed chef Mark Hix's Fish Restuarant in Lyme. For a more informal meal out there's The Harbour Inn down at the Cobb in Lyme, as well as a number of highly recommended local coastal and country pubs.
