Places to stay in Hawarden
Formerly The Dutch Station. A home away from home in beautiful North Canterbury area. This modern, private unit has two bedrooms, lounge and fully self contained kitchen. Sky television and free Wifi are available.
We are just off State Highway 7, down a short gravel road and once you arrive, you will be in awe of the surroundings. Very peaceful and relaxing. Or soak in the spa pool while soaking up the views. The apartment is spacious with modern furnishings plus there is a portacot and childrens' toys.
Because we are situated in Rural Canterbury, which makes Bentleys Country Stay an ideal spot, there is a Four Square shop in the village of Hawarden to stock up on supplies. There is also a Countdown Supermarket in Amberley for supplies. Hawarden Tavern and Cafe is a friendly place to visit with meals available. There is a 24 hour fuel stop in the village for refuelling your vehicle.

  • Cool little unit in farm area. We stayed at Annelise’s on our way from Hamner Spring to Chch. Off the main road but extremely easy to reach. An indipendent unit built on trailer and settled beside the owner house but still very private. It has all the necessary amenities, including a sweet high pressure hot shower, a washibg machine and a gas stove that is not common to find. A plus, no light pollution to take amazing star photos at night. Will defo stay there again!

  • We had a nice stay and really loved the beautiful views surrounding the property. It was perfect for what we needed, nice space, comfy bed and clean bathroom with a washing machine. We enjoyed our day at the thermal pools in Hanmer springs which was a scenic 40min drive away.

A stylish, warm environment which overlooks the garden (with a hammock to relax in). Located in central Amberley it is walking distance to amenities (several excellent cafes and restaurants , a supermarket, several clothing shops). If you have a car you are able to explore the multitude of award winning vineyards and restaurants in the region, along with several local beaches, golf, local ski fields in winter or a day trip to Hanmer Springs.
JungHwa and Chris fell in love with this house – the Old Vicarage – due to its local history. Located behind the church, the house itself is an Amberley icon. Your separate studio bedroom is located up some stairs beside the house overlooking the picturesque grounds. Relax in the studio which comes equipped with a two single beds , its own bathroom – shower and toilet – and coffee and tea and a kettle; also a toaster, refrigerator; microwave and cooking hot plates and basic kitchen supplies (plates, cooking pots and pans, chopping boards, knives, cutlery, oil, salt and pepper, sugar, wooden spoons etc). The studio also has a table and two chairs inside and two outside. Note : Remind specially for a couple ! - There are two single beds. You can be pushed together to make a queen . But the beds level is a bit different and there will be bit gap between them :)
  • Very sweet 💓

  • Great place to stay overnight. Wonderful hospitality and a quirky, cosy little studio. Thanks.

    Tania2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • A really comfortable, homely, stylish space. We would absolutely stay here again. JungHwa was such a gracious host, and her place has been created with such care that it was a joy to stay here. We only stayed for one night on our way to Christchurch, but it was very relaxing. JungHwa went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. Highly recommend.

    Nicole2019-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • A super stylish, warm and relaxing space. So many nice touches, a great selection of breakfast items, comfy beds, excellent shower. All in all a great experience, highly recommend!

    Lucy2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • JungHwa is an incredibly gracious host. The space is adorable and perfect, especially for a solo traveler (two single beds provided). The space was super clean and tastefully appointed. It was simply charming and cozy. The property is comfortably nestled behind the church in Amberley (super cute little town with modern amenities and a lovely quiet beach). I visited in the beginning of fall, and the grounds were lovely, filled with newly fallen leaves.

    Kathy2019-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • great stay and close to the brewery and multiple wineries

    Ben2018-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Clever design in an immaculate smallish studio space, everything was thought of. A little loud at night near the main road, but nothing crazy. Not much in Amberley but close to the wineries, which was perfect for us.

Welcome to Harris Estate! I'm a wine grower and farmer, excited to share my home with you! Come to stay, try some Harris Estate pinot, take a wander around the boutique vineyard and explore beautiful North Canterbury. We built and designed this home 20 years ago in a mediteranian style, rustic and homely. With custom wooden joinery, lofty ceilings, and expansive spaces - it's a space where you can truly unwind.
Nestled in the Waipara Valley, just 45 minutes North of Christchurch, you can explore the rich local wine scene, olive groves and Weka Pass railway or, for music lovers, Canterbury House - home of the jazz circuit over summer. Harris Estate is the perfect stop on the way north to Kaikoura (1.5 hours north) or en route through to Hanmer Springs (45 minutes inland).
  • Very comfortable space with an entire commercial kitchen at your disposal and a lovely host who takes you on a tour of his vineyard and shares his knowledge and more importantly his lovely wine. Highly recommended 😀

    Paula2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The stay with Alison and Daryl was wonderful. The two are very kind, open and helpful. We were even picked up from the bus stop, given a tour of the vineyard and were allowed to try Daryl's delicious wine. All thumbs up .... very recommendable.

    Anja2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • A spacy room with nice facilities. Alison was very kind and helpful offering us a taste of the local produce.

    Henrik2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay, great wineries including theirs in the area to discover

    Emma2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What Great Hosts Alison and Daryl are and what a fantastic place to stay in the middle of the waipara Valley. EVERYTHING is as it says in the air bnb fact sheet I even got to cook in the massage kitchen and sample their Pinot which was divine. The bed was super comfy and the stay was a 9 out 10 I would recommend to buy some supplies if heading from the north in Cheviot (Harris meats) or if you are travelling up from the south drop into Amberley. Daryl even gave me a tour of the vineyard andwe got to try some grapes due for Harvest..

    Paul2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely beautiful stay. We stayed here for one night. It was a nice wedding anniversary get away. Fabulous hospitality. Got a chance to try Harris Estate with the owner himself, and fell in love with it. In fact bought couple of bottles from him. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the place as well as the wine.

    Prasidda2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice, authentic place! The hosts are very hospitable and nice people. The complementary glass of their local winery’ Pinot Noir was very pleasant to have after a long drive.

    Kseniya2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What an excellent location. This accomodation is not your normal and made for a different and very appreciated experience in a medieval style amongst the vineyard and olive trees. Daryl and Alison make you feel welcome. Recommended.

Gorgeous view and amazing spot to watch the sunset. Would definitely return again if we were in the area. Thanks Carol & Wayne!

  • Perfect spot for a getaway. Friendly hosts who leave you to enjoy the serenity of their beautiful property up on the hill. And the view was stunning. We'll definitely visit again.

    Martin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carol was an awesome lady. The place is also super nice as well. More then what we were expecting so close to Waipara as well.

    Lucas2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I even begin? This place is a dream! When I checked out of Carol’s cabin, I almost teared up. It was just too wonderful to leave. You can really tell that Carol and Wayne put their hearts into the farm and the cabin to give everyone who stop by a memorable experience. Even the eggs they prepared for us for breakfast are fresh from the farm! Extremely comfortable bed, outdoor bathtub, luxury linens, big TV, plugger coffee, etc. Oh how can I forget to mention ALPACAS?!! They are just such beautiful and fun creatures. Carol and Wayne’s farm really has it all!! BOOK IT the second you find the listing available and trust me you won’t regret it!

    Sophie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. The cottage has everything you need and it is very comfortable. The outdoor bath was wonderful. We'll definitely be back.

  • My partner a I had a great time at Georgi's place. A very stylish, well presented and clean property. We would definitely come back

    Craig2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fantastic stay at Georgi's place. We loved it and got some great local info. We enjoyed the visits from labs Paddy and Milo. Would definitely recommend this place. Thanks Georgi so lovely to meet you.

  • Our second stay in the woolshed and we just love this place. Georgi and Willi are such gracious hosts and have great advice on fun things to explore around area. Loved the daily greeting from the Labs - Paddy and Milo and the polo ponies. The woolshed is the perfect escape from a bustling world!! Cannt wait for our next stay

  • Such a wonderful place to stay. Perfect for a quiet weekend away

    Jemima2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely private spot out in the elements with beautiful scenery of horses and paddocks. But still a warm and cosy set up that is the best of both worlds. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend making the trip to the wineries nearby (we went to Black estate). Only downside was the kitchen element of the listing is a toaster and Esky, so we couldn’t chill any wine properly or cook ect, but luckily we had food planned, but just something to note on planning your stay :)

    Rebecca2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The woolshed was very cute and still kept its rustic charm. It was very well appointed and the perfect space for a couple. The shower and bathroom were not what you would expect to find in a woolshed, but rather what you would expect of upscale accommodation. Georgi was a great host and made sure we had everything we needed and more throughout our short stay. Would definitely recommend a stay if you're visiting the area.

    Jess2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Arden Farm Cottage. The space is comfortable and the bed was great. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals - even had a coffee press/plunger and coffee to match! Also appreciate the cookies awaiting us when we arrived after our drive from the airport. Enjoyed sitting out one evening and walking around the farm. Great views of the valley!

    Nancy2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Bridget and Buzz were great hosts. The house had a nice feel to it, was sparkling clean and had everything we needed. The farm and the surrounding area were picturesque. Overall, a relaxing and enjoyable place to stay.

    Aby2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Arden Cottage is stunning accommodation adjacent to the owners property in a large farm. Traditionally finished to a very high standard it features an open fire and log burner, separate bedroom and bunks in the common area, along with a sofa bed if needed. It was much bigger than expected with outdoor space where you could barbeque or sit. It is situated approx 50 mins from Hamner Springs and 2 hours from Auckland or Kaikoura. A great base for the Northern/eastern South island. We'd recommend looking at the night sky. There is NO light pollution here and its an excellent place to stargaze, simply breathtaking! Our family loved it here and I'd love to visit again. Thanks again Bridget and Buzz!

We live in a quiet cul-de-sac in the small town of Amberley, servicing a busy rural and winery community, great place to stop before heading south or north. Our check in time during the week can be by arrangement depending on work commitments, please message me via Airbnb. *PLEASE NOTE *our house is the 3rd red brick house on the right after you enter our street, it is NOT the first house on the left with a sign saying LUXURY RETREAT.
The bedroom is beside your own bathroom and separate toilet. The bed is an antique brass bed with cotton sheets, woolrest underblanket and feather/down duvet. Also a electric blanket for those cold nights. Upon request there is another bedroom available, requests to use must be made with hosts. An evening meal can be available Saturday and Sunday at an extra cost, please enquire.
We live in a small country town 30 to 40minutes north of Christchurch, a great place to stop over before going into Christchurch or if travelling north to stay over before heading to Hamner Springs for a soak in the Hot Pools or Kaikoura to do some whale watching. We are an easy drive to Akaroa which could include a day out on the Akaroa Dolphins boat, a wonderful experience. In our small town we have on offer several small restaurants and cafes, a supermarket within walking distance from our house. The closest town Rangiora has a cinema for a night out to the movies. If you play golf Amberley has a great golf course 5 minute drive from our house also Amberley Beach for a walk along the beach. We have some walkways nearby taking 2-4 hours to complete. When leaving Amberley you have the choice of going south via the Southern Scenic Route or going south via State highway 1, going around Christchurch or north to Kaikoura or Hanmer Springs on the way to over the Lewis Pass which leads onto the beautiful Tasman region or to the West Coast. Travelling north on state highway is an amazing trip, scenery outstanding but also the new road they have engineered since November 2016 earthquake considering the damage to this road.
  • Friendly hosts, clean room and a yummy breakfast.

    Hayden2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • It is a room in a house. There is no bath toilet in the room, but the one next to the room can be used for exclusive use. The host went out early in the morning, but he prepared a breakfast. The host, Gimny, also cares a lot.

  • Jesse’s Cottage was ideal for us. Clean ( the bathroom was amazing), comfortable and quiet. It is also very spacious. We would highly recommend having a beer in the hotel as well. We were lucky enough to be there over Valentines and it was buzzing. Full of very happy locals who were so friendly and inclusive. A great stay.

  • Jesse's cottage is a beautiful place to stay located behind the Hurunui historic hotel amongst the vineyard. It's worth knowing that the pub, cafe and restaurant are not open on Tuesdays. The kitchen is fully functional so no problem if you are self catering. The building is stunning and the bed very comfortable.

  • This is a very nice guest suite with its own separate entrance, a spacious and spotless bathroom, and extremely comfortable twin beds in a bedroom that was a welcome change for me, who likes a really dark room for sleeping. Jane served a delicious hot breakfast in their dining room which turned into a prolonged and relaxed meal when her husband David and one of their friends joined us. Jane and David clearly love having people around them and welcomed us like old friends, making this a wonderful stay.

    Patricia2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay here. Very private twin room with ensuite, comfortable beds, great shower. Jane & David have a lovely house & garden & are excellent hosts. They made us feel extremely welcome. Tea on arrival, engaging conversation & a substantial breakfast were all much appreciated. It was a pity we were only passing through! Highly recommend.

  • My guest and I had a great stay with Jane and David. The room was private with a private bath and very clean and neat. A lovely house as well. Perfect place to spend the night and Jane was kind enough to provide us breakfast in the morning as well. I would recommend staying here to anyone.

Our Wine Pod, a beautiful Tiny House, sits privately nestled on the Georges Road Winery & Vineyard, with panoramic views across the vines to the hills & alps beyond. Enjoy the wood fired hot tub under the stars, relax on the deck, taste our wines up at the winery, use our complimentary bikes to explore the area, with kitchen and bbq (bring your own supplies or pre order a dinner food package), luxury bedding, bluetooth sound and with breakfast included.
A beautifully appointed Tiny House, the Wine Pod is set in its own private space located within our vineyard. A path leads to the hot tub where guests can soak whilst taking in the magical views of the surrounding area, or of the spectacular night sky. Close to the Winery for tastings and tours. The Wine Pod is totally self contained and has cooking facilities as well as a BBQ for outdoor use.
Fantastic wine growing region with many cellar doors to explore, winery restaurants and numerous walks in the vicinity.
  • The Winepod was nicely appointed and very comfortable. Scenery was beautiful. Georges Road wine some of the best we’ve had. So in short, Georges Road for the wine, Black Estate for the food and Pegasus Bay for the gardens.

    Donna2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location and accomodation. Thanks to Kirk for being so accommodating and friendly. Would highly recommend.

    Matt2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding. If you are looking for an amazing night away. Kirk's Wine Pod is beautiful. The pod is incredibly well done and the hot tub devine. I would recommend staying here and would love to come back. The antipasto platter, wines and breakfast - yum!

    Ange2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • lovely spot, beautiful view.

    Cindy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here on the last night of our NZ trip and, while we were always looking forward to the Wine Pod, this place was beyond our expectations and made it that much harder leaving. The views are unbelievable - we couldn't get enough (oh, and the wine is awesome too)! We were fortunately to get a clear sky for star viewing from the tub and can safely say this was one of the highlights of our trip! Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and highly recommend for anyone visiting.

    Lindsey2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The Wine Pod is beyond breathe taking. The views, hot tub and optional food packages available made this stay unforgettable. Not only is the hospitality amazing but the wine is just as amazing! We will be back 100%. Thanks Kirk.

    Maddison2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A superb place for a getaway. Amazing sunsets in such a really and cozy environment. The attention to detail and small touches made it even better.

    Steve2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kirk and Alison have created a beautiful, relaxing space that we thoroughly enjoyed! The food absolutely exceeded our expectations and made the experience even more delightful - and the WINE was fab! We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Highly recommend.

Glenafric Cottage offers a relaxed, peaceful stay in a warm and cosy farm cottage that is situated on a working sheep and beef farm. Mackintoshes Beach is just a 600m walk down the farm track which is renowned for its fishing, surfing, swimming and fossil hunting. Guests can enjoy a stroll around the stunning farmland, nearby Mt Cass walkway or Tiromoana Walkway which can be accessed via the beach or Mt Cass Road. The Cottage is a 20 min drive to the village of Waipara and nearby vineyards.
Enjoy total peace and quiet without any internet access or television. There is limited internet reception available out and about on the farm.
  • Maria was a friendly host.. really comfortable house..loved the lounge room views..beach fabulous and not another soul to be seen..also found the workings of the farm interesting..thanks again Maria and Wayne

    Wayne2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical cottage! To be on a stunning farm that you can then walk through the paddocks and be at the ocean was such a novelty - especially as you almost have the beach to yourself! We spent our weekend here in awe with the absolutely beautiful surrounds. We loved that there was no wifi or tv or phone, it really had us unwinding, such a rejuvenating wee spot to visit and on 55 minutes drive from Christchurch. Our family can’t wait to visit again! Maria is a wonderful host and even had fresh farm eggs waiting for us on arrival - amazing!

    Stacey2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable getaway on a working farm with access to a really lovely swimming beach. Will return for sure.

    Jonas2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful escape. The beach is lovely! It is about 1 km away and for the last 300m down a winding track but well worth several trips down per day. Super windy when we were at the cottage, but hardly any wind down at the beach. Found a few fossils down there too.

    John2019-12-08T00:00:00Z

  • What a little gem of a place. Quaint, cosy, old school. So close to some very happening wineries. Bike rental at Torlesse Winery is a real plus. The Waipara region is fantastic. Be aware there’s no cafes or restaurants in Waipara and the wineries stop serving food and wine at 5. Jezza is a lovely guy and is there if you need anything. Zulu the dog was a highlight. I was a happy camper!

Lovers of things historical will appreciate the 1870s main house that has been respectfully restored to close to original state. Bathroom and kitchen perfectly located for us to share with the host. • This three bedroom Airbnb is the perfect location for exploring this stunning region. You are only an hour easy drive from Christchurch CBD, about an hour to Hamner Springs, and an easy day trip to Kaikoura and Akoroa. The town of Amberley has everything you need for your stay. Countdown is a 5 minute drive and gas prices are cheaper than Christchurch. Amberley has great restaurants. This is the perfect place for anyone with mobility challenges. Everything is set up for wheel chair access. The place is large, so it easily accomodates a family. The kithcen is fully functional with a regular sized fridge, stove, and microwave. The large bathroom contains a flat shower, a tub, and a washer. It's everything you need with a handy clothes line. Parking is right outside the door with a ramp for easy access. Ken and Jenni are right across the way. They were delightful to get to know and responsive to our questions. As everything was sparkling clean and in good working order, we didn't need to bother them other than for tips on getting around the area. Having stayed at a number of Airbnb places, this is the best we've ever encountered for meeting our needs.

  • This is a really funky place- we really enjoyed our stay here. It’s very unique with all the quirky touches. Particularly enjoyed our own private pool and the record booth which has an amazing selection of records! There are a few vineyards which you can walk to write out the garden gate which I’d definitely recommend!

  • This place was beautiful and in such a perfect location. We did a weekend trip to visit the nearby wineries and this was the perfect landing spot and Damian even offered us some samples of his wine, which was wonderful. Would stay again and recommend! There is a pool, spa and volleyball net which was so much fun!

    Jen2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The Vicarage Barn is an awesome place to stay. The indoor hot tub, outdoor pool, awesome record collection, and amazing grounds make it such a great spot. Damian is a super cool human and is extremely hospitable. He gave us some great local suggestions. I wish I could have stayed longer.

Enjoy the peaceful park-like setting of our modern house, listen to the wildlife including bellbirds, quails and frogs. Large countdown supermarket, cafes and restaurants are situated in Amberley (3 min drive). Christchurch City and Airport is only 30 mins away. Also a great base for surrounding areas with Hanmer Springs hot pools, vineyards, and rivers. A great place to stop off when travelling to or from the Picton Ferry.
Large and sunny open plan living. There are two large bedrooms upstairs - a queen size bed in one room and a queen size bed and a single bed in the other. Downstairs in the open plan living area there is also a double bed. If there are extra guests we also have a pull out couch and two camp beds that we can assemble on request but more suited for children. (Sleeps 7-9). Please note the toilet and bathroom are downstairs. There is a cosy log fire for cooler days (wood provided) and a large heat pump.
So close to the city (Christchurch) but with a country feel. Amberley is a lovely rural town. It has cafes and eateries including an Indian and Thai restaurant. There is a large Supermarket and bottle store. There is also two pubs and many interesting clothing and gift stores. This is all within a 10 min walk of our house or 2min drive. North of Amberley is the famous Hanmer Springs thermal pools (1hr). There is also well known local wineries including the the Mud House Winery & Cafe. The local beach is Amberley beach which is a 5 min drive. It is good place for walking and exploring. It has coloured stones and shells for collecting.
  • Handy location clean and comfortable would stay here again

  • Joanne's home is a treasure gem close to vineyards. The apartment is spacious, well equipped and comfortable. Her lovely animals provided additional cheer to this peaceful retreat and we were grateful for her kind and warm welcome!

    Dominic2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Family of five stayed for a night on the way to Christchurch airport. Plenty of space, clean and very close to downtown Amberley. Joanne was friendly, helpful and prompt with all communication.

  • Way more house than we needed but had all the amenities you could want. Full kitchen with dishwasher, stove top and oven, washing machine and clothesline. Comfortable big leather couch and reclining chairs. They even extended their 12:00 pm checkout time to let our clothes dry and lent us their e-bikes to go for a ride while we waited. Amazing hosts!

    Carolyn2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic large family home (second on the property), which would suit a family group or anyone wanting to stop the night with some warm North Canterbury locals. Recommended.

A beautiful studio B & B at Black Estate's organic vineyard. Located on the ground floor of an architecturally designed building which also houses a lunch time restaurant featuring local and organic produce (Cuisine Winery Restaurant of the Year 2017). The views are vast, expanding from the Home vineyard to the majestic Southern Alps. Complimentary light breakfast provisions are supplied and a takeaway meal can be ordered on the day you arrive. We're happy to accommodate dietary requirements.
Outrageously beautiful North Canterbury views, well-designed furniture, premium linens, Bluetooth stereo and mini bar ensure your stay is a fine one. The guesthouse is tucked away from diners and the garden is for your own use & privacy. This is a working organic vineyard so expect to see friendly staff, tractors and a friendly dog (Steve) out in the vineyard. The cellar door & restaurant close each day at 5pm. There is a convection oven and kettle in the room with a BBQ grill on the patio, but not a full kitchenette. The ensuite is fitted with a shower, locally made Studio Star soaps and Sans beauty products. You have the place & sunset to yourselves each night. The property is located at the head of the regional vineyard bike trail and the B&B comes with complementary bikes. Guests can enjoy a number of activities in the surroundings including cycling, fishing, hiking, surfing, and winery tours.
Waipara Valley is part of the North Canterbury wine region renowned for small & premium wine producers and great food. Waipara Valley is 50 minutes north of Christchurch and 50 minutes south east of Hanmer Springs. It's a beautiful region with rivers, rolling hills and mountains. There is much to do like wine tasting in the region, walking or cycling the Waipara Vineyard Trail which starts at Black Estate, fishing, hiking, beach & river swimming, surfing, or activities and festivals like the North Canterbury Wine & Food, the Canterbury Truffle Festival and Art in a Garden.
  • a super-sweet and special spot to reflect on the light on the hills. incredible food. gorgeous wine. thoughtful and friendly team. quiet nights with stars upon stars.

    Meriko2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Of course North Canterbury wine country can be accessed as a day trip from Christchurch - but was definitely worth spending the night at Black Estate. Plan for lunch (they graciously worked us in on a holiday weekend without a resy) it was lovely and the food was great. It gets nice and quiet once the restaurant closes and then it becomes all yours to enjoy. Breakfast amenities perfect as well.

    James2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • I couldn't recommend a stay at Black Estate more! The apartment is perfect - cozy and literally steps away from the vines - and the tour of the vineyard followed by lunch at the restaurant completed a truly unparalleled experience. Thanks to Pen and team for an incredible stay - already looking for a reason to travel back to NZ :)

    Cassi2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our favorite stay on our trip. Well furnished studio on the quiet, tranquil vineyard. Check-in/out was easy and communication with the host great. Studio opens onto a private area with bushes and a sign providing privacy from the public access portion of the winery. We didn’t have time to use them but appears the host offers bikes and helmets for guests to use to explore the surrounding Waipara area, as well as notes on places to visit in the local area and seasonal goings-on

    Ash2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place to stay. The vineyard is beautiful, the takeaway meals and breakfast are fantastic, and the hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend.

    Kate2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place for a night away. The stars are brighter and it's a magical spot where you open the curtains and are looking directly onto the vines. Beautiful.

    Stephen2019-07-14T00:00:00Z
  • We reveled in the sensational Black Estate hospitality. From service to amenities, from staff wine knowledge to every little thing impeccably attended to. We'll be sure to recommend widely and return when we can.

    Harvey2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great for a weekend getaway! Extremely clean and inviting, and all the extra little touches they provide make it all the more special. Staff were very accommodating and easy to deal with! Lunch at the Cellar door is a must as well.

This literally is the vineyard shed, converted into a cosy studio that overlooks this boutique, family run vineyard. Nestled among the vines beside the family home, this studio offers an ideal stay. Home to a working vineyard & Darnley Corner Wines
The Vineyard Shed is fully self-contained. The main studio area has lovely views of the vineyard. The Vineyard Shed has been converted from a working shed. It is a basic, yet cosy design. A microwave and portable hob are available to cook meals. We do not offer a catered breakfast; our venue suits those who bring their own food or wish to dine out. You'll enjoy the quietness of the area, and the night sky is amazing. A private garden/courtyard is a recent development allowing guests to dine indoors or out. Vineyard tours are available on request. We can also give you plenty of information on local sites and things to do, along with the inside word on wineries, cafes and restaurants. While the unit is fully self-contained Richard and Anna are available to assist if anything is required to make your stay a pleasant one. The sunrises and sunsets are spectacular. The various colours on the surrounding hills are captivating.
Our neighbourhood is surrounded by vineyards and open farmland. Our neighbours are the sheep next door, the rabbits in early mornings and the hawks soaring high above.
  • Lovely place. Clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the wine and chocolate Totally recommend!

  • The accommodation is spotlessly clean. Richard and Anna are fantastic hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend a visit to the Wiapara springs vineyard for lunch - pinot gris was my favourite. One of my favourite Airbnb's to date.

  • Ann and Matthew were great hosts - really welcoming and friendly. The house is beautiful and we were impressed by the renovations they’d carried out on the historic building. The garden is stunning too - Ann even gave us a tour and introduced us to some of their animals. We would definitely recommend the experience of staying at the Hurunui Homestead.

The place was comfortable and clean, with lots of space for everyone. We were a large group of all ages and there was something here for everyone. We went on a long beautiful hike and had a lovely picnic by the river. The kids loved feeding the donkey and horse bits of carrots. We got to see (and even try!) sheep shearing and feed the baby lambs bottles. Karen and her family made us feel welcome and taught us a lot about the farm. In a peaceful rural valley, nestled at the base of stunning buffs near the banks of the River is Hurunui River Retreat. With little more than an hour’s drive from Christchurch you could be taking a relaxing break far from the madding crowd. Pip & Burton invite you to stay in one of their two architecturally designed cottages, Flax & Tussock. Both with two cosy bedrooms, living and kitchen areas & bathrooms. Each cottage has uninterrupted views of the southern alps.
Amazing views of the southern alps, from the Waimakariri gorge right round to the Kaikoura ranges. The cottages sit in front of a large pond, & in the evening you can hear the frogs.
Very quite rural setting, across the paddocks from the Hurunui River.
  • A beautiful , well laid out house with fresh decor and everything you might need to self cater , in an amazing location .

  • It's really relaxing staying at Philippa's place. She even provides a really, really nice breakfast.

    Paula2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • High quality, superbly quiet, and so relaxing. Note that it is 6km along a gravel road, in case that is a consideration. And no wifi, but honestly, you don't need it. We found it so therapeutic to just sit on the deck, eat dinner, and watch the clouds go by as the sun got lower. The adjoining car port would be particularly appreciated if you arrived or departed while it rained. This is the place to be if you like open space, peace, and distant views of the mountains.

  • Pip's place is so lovely! We had a super relaxing couple of days exploring local wineries and the beautiful scenery. She had some great tips about local places to visit and the place itself was clean, pretty with large bedrooms and an amazingly well equipped kitchen (she had stuff I don't even have in our kitchen at home!) The only thing to bear in mind is that the location that shows on Airbnb isn't accurate, it looks very close to the main road but it's actually a 5-10 minute drive along a gravel road. Once we found it, we had a great time!

    Emily2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
