Self contained, luxurious eco retreat in the beautiful East Devon countryside - just 6 miles from the sea! As seen on Grand Designs and Grand Designs Revisited 2018, our property is a zero carbon luxurious eco home, built from traditional cob, with a wildflower meadow roof and set in 3.5 acres of meadow and woodland. Ottery St Mary is a charming, bustling, little town, set on the River Otter, providing all the basic needs, independent shops and plenty of lovely eateries, and a few pubs!
As seen on Grand Designs and Grand Designs Revisited 2018, our property is a modern zero carbon eco luxurious home, built from traditional cob, with an amazing wildflower meadow roof and set in 3.5 acres of meadow and woodland. This is a luxury, zero carbon house - we produce all of our own electricity and all of our water is either filtered rainwater or from our borehole. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and scones or biscuits are provided as a welcome pack for your arrival. Dingle Dell annexe is linked to our home by a large, very productive, (almost tropical!) greenhouse. Dingle Dell annexe has 3 bedrooms - a king and a twin on the ground floor, with a further king upstairs, all furnished with quality oak furniture, deep mattresses and quality bedding. The bathrooms are both beautifully fitted with travertine floor tiles, with a walk in rainfall shower and a very comfy slipper bath on the ground floor, and a luxury shower over the bath on the first floor. Both bathrooms are also fitted with luxurious "I Love Eco Essentials" toiletries. There is a gorgeous woodburner, with logs provided, in the ground floor living area, which is used to boost the hot water if the sun lets us down! This then opens onto a sunspace with a dining table and amazing views across our meadow and out onto East Devon. Stunning hand made oak stairs wind up to the first floor from the sunspace, into an open living / dining and bespoke hand made oak kitchen, plus the king bedroom and bathroom. The layout is great for grand parents, parents and children, or multiple couples holidaying together as it still achieves a level of privacy and space if required! We also have an amazing private gym / sauna/ games room suite which is available to book for your exclusive use for an additional charge. This is available to annexe guests over 18 years only. There is lots of space for easy parking on site and a covered charging bay for electric cars if required.
We are at the end of a long, unmetalled track, right on the edge of Ottery St Mary surrounded by beautiful East Devon countryside. Exeter is only 10 miles away, and the stunning East Devon (Jurassic) coast is just 6 miles away. Head to the coast for a beach walk or beach day, plus activities such as kayaking and fossil hunting, plus the famous South West coast path. A choice of bike trails are nearby and a footpath across the surrounding farmland is just outside the gate! A walk along the River Otter, which leads all the way to Budleigh Salterton from Ottery St Mary, is glorious and shouldn't be overloooked, a few miles south takes you to the village of Tipton St John, with a very lovely country pub... Keep a look out for amazing wildlife including otters and even beavers along the riverbanks!
  • A truly spectacular place to stay. Kevin and Karen were very welcoming and we enjoyed our stay very much.

  • Kevin and Karen made sure we were comfortable but at the same time were always available if we needed something. The house is even more amazing than it looks on Grand Designs. Everything is beautifully crafted, beautiful to look at and the walls seem to almost hug you. We're only sorry that we were too busy driving around sightseeing to take the time to go for a walk through the meadow and see if we could see any otters in the stream. Would recommend this to anyone!

  • Dingle Dell is an extraordinary, robust home! A warm, cosy and comfortable space to return to after a long day touring gorgeous Devon. Kevin and Karen are exemplary hosts who were very obliging and quick to respond. Enjoy!

  • Lovely, unique place to stay and thought provoking if you’re considering an eco friendly property. Clearly a labour of love and a superb example of what can be achieved with sheer determination against all the odds. Responsive hosts, clean, warm and plenty to do in the local area too. Take the approach road slowly!

  • Lovely accommodation! Great views and a really friendly host.

    Stephen2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely cottage, just as pictured and with lots of thoughtful touches like snacks and proper coffee. Still feels very private although it is attached to the main house. The place was sparkling clean and smelled great! We got a bit lost arriving after dark (Londoners in the country!!) but Phillip and his neighbours were very helpful and made sure we arrived safely. We only had a short stay with our pup to visit friends in Exeter but hope to come back to explore the countryside. The stargazing was top notch too!

  • We visited with our small dog, who also had a great time. We had a perfect stay. Warm and welcoming hosts who were easy to communicate with. Clear directions, in a beautiful rural location. The accommodation was sparkling clean, and thoughtfully designed. Lots of added touches, including snacks and fresh fruit. We arrived past day light, but waking up to such a special view was a real treat. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

  • Great private apartment, very comfortable and cosy, very clean, everything you might need for a short stay is provided and well thought of, including a thoughtful welcome pack. Great communication with Sue. Would definitely recommend, this was our first stay using Airbnb and it was perfect!

    Carly2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our experience at Sues place. There were so many nice little touches and it had a nice wee cosy cottage feel. Would highly recommend to stay. Everything was excellent.

    Anna2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay fully recommend

    Michael2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • The property is so nice and cosy, with everything you could need and more, for a get away in the country. Sue was a great host and used lots of nice touches to make sure our stay was the best. Highly recommend to others.

    Richard2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very cosy, spacious and beautifully finished, self contained annex which is exactly what it says on the site description. It is made that wee bit more special by the extra goodies which Sue leaves for each visitor - a really helpful breakfast pack which lasted us for three days and some chocolate brownies. No hesitation in recommending and using it again ourselves.

    Eric2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Sue's place is brilliant, it is immaculate and has everything you could need, cosy and warm with good wifi (sadly we were working during our stay) The little touches, like the welcome pack made a big difference to us as we had no time before getting there to get in breakfast supplies!!! Location was perfect for us to attend an event at the village hall but it seemed a great location to explore the area from. Our stay was too short really but we could not have asked for more. Thank you Sue

    Sarah2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • This is a real gem. Tucked away in a quiet village, the cottage is cleverly designed and beautifully appointed. Whether is a cosy romantic stay for two or (as in my case) a welcome change to hotels for a business trip, the cottage is warm, comfortable and with a high spec. Highly recommended.

Warm, well equipped family home-can accommodate up to 6 people. Private garden to the back and ample parking. 5 min walk to the River Sid and then onwards, through The Byes to the beach in a further 15 min (5 min drive). A lovely base for exploring numerous local beaches along the Jurassic Coast, the Donkey Sanctuary & the whole of the south west by car, bike or public transport. IMPORTANT Please note, straight line distance to the beach is 1.2 miles. Approx 20 min walk or a 5 minute drive
Private enclosed rear garden with private parking on the property in a residential area. Affordable and comfortable accommodation in a very beautiful coastal town. Please note two single beds in bedroom 3 are bunk beds. The property has one bathroom/toilet and it is on the ground floor. Smart TV is catch-up / NETFLIX etc only. We are legally licence free.
We are situated outside the hustle and bustle of the main town but only five mins from all local amenities such as a supermarket, newsagent, chemist, bakers, vet, butchers and recently renovated pub. Only 15-20 min walk to the beach via a stunning riverside park, or if driving the coast is only 5 mins away. If you don't fancy walking then local buses can take you into town in just a few minutes. Our home is situated in a seaside town but is not a beachside property. Please take time to make sure that the location is appropriate for you. Our home is situated on a firendly and busy housing development where Ross grew up. We have family members and close friends living nearby and we love the community feel. Please take time to check that our home is what and where you expect (use g maps). Sidmouth has many options for accomodation each with their pros and cons. If you want a 5 star setting right on the beach then a hotel may suit you better. If you want to feel at home, where you can come and go as you please, don't mind a pleasant walk or short drive / cycle to the beach and living amongst the locals, then our home on air bnb will be perfect for you. We have worked hard to attain superhost status so if there is anything we can do please don't hesitate to ask.
  • A very comfortable house with many thoughtful touches. Well stocked with everything we needed.

The Coach house is recently renovated to a very high standard. It consists of a living room with plenty of seating, wood burner and free supply of logs, under floor heating, a dining room that opens into our extensive gardens, a bathroom with shower and plenty of fluffy towels and an upstairs double bedroom with seating area with views over the River Otter and garden. It is ideal for a couple but we can add a crib and/or single bed for young family if given prior notice.
There is no kitchen although there is a range of crockery and glasses with a small fridge and tea and coffee making facilities and basket of complimentary fruit teas, ground and instant coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. We want to make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. There is plenty of parking and although you can park immediately out side we do request that you park by the house and walk through the garden to reduce disturbance of neighbours.
We are located in the tiny village of Alfington mid-way between the market towns of Ottery St Mary and Honiton . We are about 8 miles from the coast at Sidmouth - part of the Unesco 'Jurasic coast' and just outside of the East Devon area of outstanding natural beauty. The coach house overlooks the River Otter that rises in the Blackdown hills to the north and meets the sea at the retirement town of Budleigh Salterton. Exeter , the shire county town is approximately 15 miles to the west of us and the Dartmoor national park beyond that. Exeter or Isca is steeped in history having been one of the most westerly outposts of the Roman empire, it is the regional city and university town with many cinemas, theatres and major shopping centre.
  • Excellent place to stay, really cosy and so peaceful. We felt very welcome and the breakfast was such a thoughtful touch. We could have stayed much longer, it’s a fantastic place to enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and nature from the first floor french windows. It was so relaxing we look forward to revisiting.

    Laura2019-11-06T00:00:00Z
  • The coach house was beautiful and very well furnished. We were completely comfortable and breakfast was delicious. Thank you Stuart and Debbie for your kindness and flexibility. We hope to visit again one day and would certainly recommend you to friends and family.

This stellar review (Aug 2019) sums up a quality experience at my beautiful country home near Honiton, East Devon. “This house is gorgeous. Country living at its finest. The personal touches are very welcoming having been on the road. Comfortable beds, big deep baths, lovely linen and thirsty thick towels. A kitchen with all the bells and whistles. This place is a hidden gem and very private”. Highlights: walled garden, Aga kitchen, log fire, Nature, Owls, the stars, charm, bucolic bliss!
Tower House has a magical “secret garden” atmosphere the moment you arrive. The house dates back in part to the 17th Century and is set in secluded walled gardens with old apple trees, a natural pond and stone barns (where swallows nest every summer). It is a peaceful space; a bit overgrown and overlooked by a romantic old Tower. Since 2014, it has been a pleasure hosting guests from around the world. Guests love the relaxing home from home vibe, its unique charm and character. Since the recent (Oct 2018) upgrade of the Aga kitchen and new dining room, Tower House feels and looks like a stylish “boutique” hotel filled with beautiful furniture and art. However, guests should not expect a pristine 5 star hotel but somewhere more charming and personal. Tamsin warmly welcomes her guests, often greeting them upon arrival. (Please text your eta). Tamsin sometimes stays in the cottage next door or goes to London during your stay. Apart from the Owls hooting and a gentle Dawn Chorus, Tower House is peaceful and quiet, especially at night with no light pollution, just a bright shiny moon and the most incredible spectacle of stars on a clear night. Revised Information: Tamsin is reviewing her dog policy. Currently, No dogs or pets allowed without Tamsin’s permission. Dog requests considered on individual booking basis only. The walled garden is safe for dogs and small children (but young children and dogs will need to be supervised near the pond. Private parking for 3 average sized vehicles accessed via the electric double gates. NEVER force the wooden electric doors open. Electric gates controlled by small zapper (details provided on booking). Tamsin is usually at home to greet guests, otherwise, Tamsin messages guests with clear entry details before arrival. Bedrooms: The 3 upstairs bedrooms are spacious with very comfortable King size beds. Quality bedlinen, toiletries and fresh towels provided. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have sofas. A Freestanding Bath adds glamour and luxury to Bedroom 1. The upstairs Bathroom (freestanding bath, loo, no separate shower cubicle) is shared by Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 3. The slightly quirky layout upstairs ideally suits a family or good friends who are more relaxed about sharing. There is a second downstairs loo/cloakroom next to the Utility room (Miele washing machine, drier and double sink). Tamsin provides breakfast provisions eg milk, jams, coffee, bread, eggs. You may help yourselves to any store cupboard items, olive oil etc if you need to. During July and August, Tamsin prefers minimum 3 nights booking. Min 2 nights midweek also considered. Best to enquire. Christmas and New Year: Christmas ideally minimum 5 nights, New Year minimum 4 nights. A single Christmas and New Year booking (8 nights) preferred. Beautiful real Christmas tree and decorations provided. Also plenty of logs for the Woodburner in sitting room and candles ensuring you enjoy a memorably special “hygge” Christmas and New Year🥂 Location: Based near the beautiful unspoilt Farway Valley, 1 mile from the country town of Honiton (direct South West Train services to London Waterloo and Exeter), Tower House is 6 miles from the stunning Jurassic Coast beaches of Weston and Branscombe, 20 mins from Lyme Regis, quintessential Devon countryside, the Farway Valley and pretty villages. The popular Pig Hotel at Combe is only a few miles away and a great place to eat or sip cocktails. Honiton Golf Club and the School of Art & Well-being down the lane. Horse riding @ Devonish Pitt Riding Stables. Recommended Day Trips: Surfing and North Cornwall beaches (Polzeath) a fast 90 minute drive. Dartmoor 40 mins drive. Salcombe, Dartmouth, Totnes approx 1 hour drive. Exmoor and North Devon approx 1 hour drive. (Timings and distances are approximate). There is so much to discover and explore on the doorstep and further afield. It is a pleasure living at Tower House. I am delighted to continue sharing my home with lovely people from around the world, throughout the year. I hope everyone who stays here will have a wonderful experience and enjoy and explore all the pleasures of this special part of rural East Devon. Get more of a feel for the house here: https://www.instagram.com/towerhouseairbnb/ Best wishes, Tamsin
Its great being so close to unspoilt countryside in the Farway Valley, River Coly walks, and quiet lanes for Cycling and running enthusiasts, wonderful coastal walks at Weston, Branscombe and low tide at Sidmouth. Honiton is a vibrant market town renowned for Antique shops. It has a Tesco, Aldi and Lidl and high street with useful shops. I also love Lyme Regis a historic seaside town. Its a fantastic area to explore and immerse yourself in nature and a pleasure to return to a very comfortable, stylish "home from home" The recently opened Pig Hotel and Restaurant at Combe, Gittisham is a beautiful place just 10 minutes away if you want a special supper. My welcome file and photos on this site detail more info. Separate cottage (sleeps 2-4). Please message Tamsin
  • Amazing host. Beautiful house. Thank you very much!

  • We planned a last minute get away to spend new year's eve with our children. Tamsin's place won us over by the gorgeous rustic Tower House, the cozy open fire with a glass of wine to hand & the Aga to make a roast! Tamsin & her daughter made us very welcome by showing my children some story books we could read in the evening which they loved! We will no doubt be back in the summer, thank you for such a magical stay :)

  • Its so good we jut had to come back! Tamsin's house is the house of dreams. It instantly puts you in holiday mode with all the country house treats you dream of - an Aga, woodburner and beautiful surroundings, gorgeously decorated interior, with such thoughtful touches. Tamsin is awesome, so friendly and welcoming and has your every need considered whilst giving you space to enjoy your precious time off. Would highly recommend the house to anyone wishing to switch off and enjoy friends, food and good living. Thanks Tamsin, we'll be back!

We enjoy welcoming guests to our relaxed bohemian family home. You are welcome to use any of our communal areas including the Kitchen. This single room is small but cosy with a comfortable single bed, with a mattress bought recently. I offer a range of delicious breakfast options and I have extensive experience cooking vegan and vegetarian, gluten, dairy free, paleo food. There are building works being carried out next door but the developer is very considerate. We have a friendly cat.
Our cottage is situated at the back of the high street and on the whole is very quiet, at the same time offering the convenience of being near the train station and town amenities.
Honiton is a bustling town with lots of amenities from independent shops to High Street retailers. There are some good places to eat, and if you're feeling adventurous and willing to go further afield there are some astonishingly good places to eat (The Pig, The Jack in the Green, River Cottage Canteen). There is a train station with direct Waterloo.

  • I received a lovely warm welcome from Carla and Martin and the two dogs. The location was ideal for my visit to Sidmouth and it was handy to be able to walk into Sidmouth or catch the bus. The same bus will also take you one to Exeter, or certain ones will go to Honiton in the other direction. Carla provided a good range of cereals, fruit, yoghurt for breakfast which set me up for the day.

  • I just spent one night in Carla's house but it was a pleasure. Carla and her husband are really good hosts and the room was very clean and comfortable.

Julian and Hilary will offer a warm welcome and hope your stay at The Pea (aka The Park of Economic Achievements) will be a delight. The house is a 16th Century cottage full of character in the middle of Whimple. There are two guest rooms (this is the smaller of the two). Exeter Airport is a 10 mins drive and a lift to the airport can be arranged. There are two pubs which both serve food in the village. Exeter is 8 miles away.
A beautiful beamed bedroom with WiFi, tea and coffee facilities. Our house is full of art and has an interesting history.
Whimple is a historic village, and there are many interesting buildings including a History Centre which is open in the summer.
  • Our family regularly stays with Hilary and Julian when visiting relatives in Whimple. We highly recommend it (see earlier reviews for more details).

    Helen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning stay with the most hospitable and kind hosts. I was treated more as a house guest, rather than just renting a room for the night. Fantastic and highly recommended!

  • Wonderfully quaint and very comfortable place. Warm hosts. Highly recommended.

  • What an amazing place to stay. I cannot stress how welcome Julian and Hilary made me feel during my 3-night stay. Their hospitality was next level, even inviting me to supper with them one evening. It really was a homely environment and exceptionally clean. If you get chance take a look in the downstairs bathroom at their wonderful collection of airline posters. Already looking forward to going back and visiting them in the future.

    David2019-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great overnight stay at Hilary and Juilan's place, the cottage was cozy and the room and shared bathroom were very clean. They were friendly and helpful hosts, I would stay again.

Delightful Grade 2 listed cottage in a quiet and picturesque thatched Devon village in an area steeped in history and close to the sea. The house is beautifully decorated, light and comfortable with a secluded garden and country views.
Although small, Batts Cottage is full of character and has been sensitively renovated into a wonderful contemporary space to make it light and airy whilst still retaining its period features. The pretty upstairs bedroom has a comfortable double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a shower. Downstairs, there is another attractive bedroom with a single bed and an additional pull-out bed. The sitting room is open plan and has a dining table which expands to seat 4. This leads through to the light and well-equipped kitchen with a door to the garden, and a downstairs family bathroom with a bath. There is a low beam in the sitting room so taller guests have to watch their head, although I am 5'11" and have no problems! The house sleeps 3 adults comfortably or would be ideal for a small family. There are lovely views from the garden which has two small areas of lawn, flower beds and a deck with table, chairs and an umbrella. The house is near the village green and situated opposite a beautiful 14th Century church. There is parking right outside the house.
Gittisham is in the heart of East Devon in an area of great historical interest. Ottery St Mary, the birthplace of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is ten minutes away, and the market town of Honiton with its wonderful antique shops is a five minute drive. Until recently the entire village of Gittisham was owned by the Combe Estate and because it has never been developed, still retains a unique charm. Combe House, the original family home of the Marker family which sits above the village, is now a five star hotel boasting a superb award-winning restaurant. There are many more excellent pubs and restaurants in the area including the popular Otter Inn at Weston and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Canteen in Axminster. The seaside towns of Sidmouth, Beer and Branscombe with their lovely beaches are all within easy reach and Lyme Regis which is part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is half an hour away. Both Honiton and Ottery St Mary have good supermarkets and farm shops as well as many other amenities and there are twice-weekly markets at Honiton, Axminster and Bridport which are well worth a visit. Exeter with its famous cathedral, cinemas and excellent shopping is a 30 minute drive. If you are interested in walking, there are some lovely walks you can do straight from the house, or if you are looking for something more challenging, there are some magnificent coastal walks within easy reach. There are a number of National Trust properties in the area as well as Escot Park, one of the top visitor attractions in Devon.
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cosy cottage. Victoria has a lovely place full of charming character features.

  • Great location.

    Susie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We used the cottage over Christmas to base ourselves whilst celebrating at a nearby family members home. Although we didn’t use the kitchen it looked to be well stocked with equipment. The cottage itself was clean and very pretty. There was an issue with the boiler one day but this was quickly fixed and the host was very quick and clear with communication at all times.

    Matthew2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was a beautiful little cottage, it was very clean & a great way to experience the old world with all the modern conveniences! I was concerned that it may be cold but the heating kept it quite warm & there was also a lovely insert in the fireplace. It’s nicely located in a quiet little village across the street from a 13th Century church. It’s close to the town of Honiton & only 15 mins to Exeter. As Victoria mentions it does have low beamed ceilings, & my 6’3” husband did bash his head a couple of times!

    SallyAnne2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Victoria is a great host and the cottage is delightful , clean and stylish, with everything you need. The position in the pretty village of Gittisham is perfect for exploring a truly beautiful part of Devon. There is so much to do that we intend to return. You have your own garden at the back but we enjoyed sitting on the front doorstep and watching village life go by.

    Jo2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • My friend and I loved this Cottage in the pretty and friendly village of Gittisham. The cottage is delightful and also comfortable and warm and with a pretty little garden to sit in and enjoy a cup of tea when returning in the evening. The beds are remarkably comfortable and we both slept very well during our stay. We fully intend to make a return visit next time we are in Devon.

    Vicky2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Communication with Victoria was great. We loved the cottage, great location to explore Devon!

  • This is a cottage in a quaint old village that has an interesting history. I understand the cottages were built for the farm workers and are in a quiet beautiful spot. If you are looking for peace and quiet and seeing some real history, this is the place for you. The host is very responsive and the check in and out are simple and easy.

The Annex is a beautifully compacted space which can be adapted for disabled guests. It is just off the A30 with great links to Exeter and only 8 miles from Exmouth. The Annex is at the back of a house called Upper Spilsby which has a private driveway for you to use. The Annex has its only private entrance and comes with a double bed, cooker, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster and dishwasher. There is a TV and small table and chairs.
All the thresholds at the Annex are levelled and there is easy disabled access to the property. There is a shower stool and commode available upon request. There is a sofa bed which could be used if it was a family or party of three. I wouldn't recommend any more than three people staying although a booking of four would be considered. A travel cot can also be provided if needed.
The Annex is set in the quiet countryside with gorgeous views down to the sea on a clear day and open countryside. There is a little woodland you can walk through but there aren't many long walks without having to drive to. Ottery St. Mary is a short drive away which offers lots of lovely coffee shops, boutique shops and there is also a Sainsburys there.

Amazingly central location allows you to explore Exeter city (17 miles) voted the best city in England last year. Jurassic coast 12 miles away with Lyme Regis famous for the film French Lieutenant's Woman. london only 3 hours by train.
A Quiet cul-de-sac but with amenities on the doorstep - Railway link to London with even more frequent trains. - 7 minutes walk to Station. The bedroom faces the front with views towards Dunkeswell Flying club (parachutists often in the summer) The Aviator to snack in and watch the planes come and go.There is parking immediately outside on the hard standing.
The proximiti y to the town is important to me - within easy walking distance to shops, library, leisure centre and the fiarly new Beehive Community which is abuzz! with live shows, talks, films music, bar . I frequesntly visit my favourite seaside resorts such as Lyme Regis (wher the French Lieutenant's Woman was filmed) and Sidmouth. Of course this includes the Jurassic Coast with much to explore for entyhusiastic walkers.

The Manor Pavillion Theatre for some wonderful entertainment opportunities. The Donkey Sanctuary (and restaurant) is only a few miles away with a free bus in the summer. • Really nice little self contained annex with two bedrooms and access to west facing sun-deck and garden with view across valley. Ali and her husband John ("J") are super hosts and we found them excellent company, though I am sure they would let you be if you wanted privacy. They property is up a hill about two miles out of Sidmouth so your own car is probably a necessity, especially as taxis can be hit and miss in the evenings. We really loved our stay.

  • This is a cosy space, perfect for 2 (or 1). Description accurate. Beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, all mod cons, really comfortable bed - with good bed linen and a good sized shower. Ideal for business or leisure use. Some road noise (albeit I had the window open) - but actually that quietened down considerably by the time I went to bed. Will definitely check availability if I am down that way again. Thank you.

  • We stayed at Linda’s place as we had a wedding at the deer park, it’s super close only 5 minutes in a taxi and a 5 minute drive in to lovely Honiton. Linda’s place is clean, it was easy to check in and She was on hand if we needed her. It’s also lovely and quiet We loved the little toiletries in the bathroom and the tea/coffee and snack supplies that were left in the kitchen for us, nice touch! There is also a folder with local information such as taxis, places to eat etc which was helpful Overall a great place to stay if you are in the area. Thanks Linda

  • A very comfy room with good facilities for breakfast plus free tea and coffee. Radka was very responsive to our messages. A good base to visit friends/family or explore the area

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely hosts and beautiful facilities. Great local tips also. Really enjoyed Sidmouth.

    Kirra2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Radka & Hayden have created a really nice space with thoughtful and practical touches. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and a good touch of character. It's an annexe attached to their house but it felt totally private and had everything needed for a short stay. If I'm coming back to the Sidmouth area at any point I'd be keen to stay here again.

  • Brilliant!! Can’t fault a thing. Very clean and great host.

    Darren2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation is self contained, with a private entrance and en suite; you access it directly from the driveway on the ground floor. It was spotlessly clean, the bed was very large and comfortable and I loved the rainfall shower. It's not a huge space but was perfect for our needs. The town is a short drive away, but you can get the bus nearby (a three-minute walk) if you're planning to have a drink or don't want to bother with parking and I understand there's a pub within walking distance, although we didn't try it out. (We at at Dukes Inn and can recommend!) We requested the booking very last minute but Radka was unflappable and made it happen for us, despite some technical difficulties with AirBnB - thank you Radka! We definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we are in the area.

    Jose2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place to stay for visiting the donkey sanctuary and for Sidmouth and surrounding area. The Annex was lovely with all the equipment we needed like toaster, fridge and tea/coffee and kettle. We also found complimentary bad of fudge which we enjoyed. The bed was lovely and comfy and everywhere was perfectly clean. Radka and Hayden are great hosts and we will recommend them to anyone

Stay in the private wing of our house in a converted farm, set in 4 acres of the beautiful East Devon countryside. We try to be as eco friendly as possible growing most of our own fruit and vegetables. We keep hens that provide us with delicious eggs and bee hives will arrive in April. Enjoy strolling around our wild flower meadow and newly planted vineyard. Spend cosy winter evenings around the log burning stove. We are happy to have a well behaved dog to stay.
The Gate House offers a bedroom with a super king size bed (that can be divided into 2 singles); a large sitting room with log burner and sofa bed; a large bathroom with bath and separate shower; a spacious breakfast area; a sunny outside terrace; and parking for 2 cars. You are welcome to enjoy our 4 acres of garden and meadow.
The village of Whimple is 5 minutes by car or a 10 minute walk across the fields. In the village are 2 friendly pubs, a local shop and our heritage centre. There are many excellent restaurants close by, including the Pig at Combe in Gittisham, the Five Bells at Clyst Hydon and the Jack in the Green at Rockbeare.
  • We had a lovely stay here! The log fire was fab. The bread and eggs provided for breakfast each day was a really nice touch. Deborah is so helpful and lovely! Would definitely recommend!

    Chloe2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place ... so much space with everything you need, welcoming and warm, fabulous homemade bread, all with hosts that will do all they can to make your stay unforgettable. Thanks you Debs and Jules.

  • Thankyou all for making our stay wonderful, hope our pups werent too much of a pest.

    Philippa2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Deb was extremely friendly & accommodating, homemade bread was scrummy & everything you need to make breakfast, logs in plentiful supply for the log burner, would love to visit again, thank you so much .

    Jackie2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • The log burner at Deborah's place was the winning feature for us, we could just snuggle into the sofas with books and relax. There were some tasty homemade items to make a simple breakfast including home made bread. We had a great meal at the Five Bells in at Clyst Hydon, not too far away. It was nice to have Deb and Julian's gardens to walk around, there are interesting things growing in there! Easy parking & convenient location.

    Rachel2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Deborah's place quickly felt like my home away from home. Great communications along my journey, welcoming hospitality on arrival together with a warm fire and stocked fridge. Thank you so much for a great stay and we look forward to the next time that we book with you.

    Robert2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful stay at Deb's place! Breakfast was delicious, the accommodation is attached to their home but very private. Deb was a wonderful host; the log fire was going strong for our arrival which was a lovely touch and the home-made biscuits were divine!! She was even kind enough to post back my toothbrush that I left behind! thanks for a wonderful stay, we'll be back!

    Lisa2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place and a charming host! Cosy, spotlessly clean and stylish accommodation in an idyllic, quiet setting yet only a short hop to Exeter. Deborah provided home baked bread, plus daily croissants, fresh eggs, butter, tea, coffee (thankfully including decaf), fresh orange juice, marmalade and jam. There's parking right outside the entrance, and everything's on the ground floor, so ideal for anyone who can't deal with stairs. A great shower, full sized bathtub, king size bed with good quality mattress, a small but adequate fridge, an egg cooker, kettle and all the crockery and cutlery you are likely to need. French doors to a delightful patio with tables and chairs overlooking a very pretty, sheltered garden. Adjacent to the Gate House there's a wonderful enclosed field and meadow which our dogs enjoyed exploring. There's a small vegetable plot protected against wild animals using a low voltage electric fence, but our two dogs kept week away from that and the flock of chickens who also call this delightful place "home". There's an excellent log burner in the sitting room, a Freesat tv and (somewhat patchy) WI-FI. Easily "five star" accommodation and six star location and hospitality (exceptional).

  • Roxie house is a unique, stylish and very comfortable place to stay in the beautiful East Devon countryside. Louise and Mike were brilliant generous hosts and made us feel instantly at home. We had everything we needed to cook with and stay comfortably - the wood burner, gorgeous rolltop bath and cosy blankets were perfect! We didn't drive-and found it easy to get sample some of the nearby classy restaurants and pubs around Ottery St Mary and Honiton easily by bus. We had some fabulous walks straight from the door. Such a welcoming place - and meeting the animals was an added treat ! Would highly recommend for a relaxing holiday.

  • very nice accommodation - comfortable, clean and well equipped. Excellent location for exploring Devon coast. Lovely touches - but especially the little snow drops attached to the tiny packet of homemade butter!!

  • Roxie house is the most perfect place to stay to get away from it all. We had three nights away for my birthday and it couldn’t have been more wonderful. The house and hosts were warm and welcoming. We had everything we needed and it was an excellent base for enjoying, walks, beaches and Exeter cathedral. Highly recommend a stay

    Hester2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time at Roxie House - it was amazing! And Louise and Mike told us in summer it is even more beautiful - so we want to come back! The whole family is super friendly and helpful, we felt really welcome! The house is lovely, cosy and everything you need is there. We travelled by train and bus, which is no problem in this region if you are not in a hurry and accept that you need more time to come from A to B. But Louise and Mike helped us a lot and we could see lovely places like Sidmouth and Beer. We definitly recommend this place to all people who are looking for great nature, lovely people and a peaceful and relaxing holiday!!!

    Lucie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Roxie House was the most wonderful place to stay over Christmas. A beautiful little property, beautifully presented with so many thoughtful touches making it the perfect Christmas hideaway for us. The (already lovely) pictures shown don’t do Roxie House justice and it totally exceeded our expectations.

This lovely spacious cottage is adjacent to the owner's house, set in 3 acres of gardens and beautiful countryside in the heart of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's a great base for walking, cycling, touring, shopping, eating and drinking ...and curling up in front of the log fire. Sidbury village is a 20 min walk away. And Sidmouth, on the Jurassic Coast, is just a 4 mile drive. A few days at Filcombe will leave you relaxed, refreshed and keen to come back!
Filcombe Farm Cottage is a converted coach house and hayloft - from the days when Filcombe was a working dairy farm. It has been refurbished to a high standard in a contemporary style. We aim to create a home from home experience whether you stay for two nights or two weeks. The kitchen is well equipped and there's a comfortable dining area. The cosy sitting room has lots of guide books and maps to help you plan your time in East Devon. And if you prefer to curl up on the sofas in front of the log burner, there's a bookcase full of novels, piles of magazines, games puzzles and a selection of DVDs. And a plentiful supply of logs. Upstairs you will find a large bathroom - perfect for unwinding after a day walking, touring ... or shopping. The peaceful bedroom looks out over the owner's vegetable garden. Guests are welcome to pick fruit from the trees in the orchard in season. The heated outdoor swimming pool is in the sunniest spot in the garden. It is usually open May to September and guests are welcome to use it on request. Pool towels are available in the separate changing room where there's a shower and toilet. You are welcome to explore the 3 acres of gardens - woodland, lawns, beds and a stream. There's a small treehouse too if you fancy heading back to your childhood! There's space for outdoor dining as well as a BBQ on request. We provide a small welcome hamper - enough for a simple evening meal or a cooked breakfast along with tea and coffee. The hamper usually contains bacon, sausage, bread, butter, milk and eggs - so please let us know of any dietary requirements when you book (vegetarian, vegan, gluten or dairy free etc).
The Sid Valley is part of the East Devon AONB - rolling hills, farmland, villages, woodland and of course the beautiful Jurassic Coast. Guests like to get out and about in the local area, and also make day trips further afield travelling to Dorset, Somerset, Cornwall, Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bristol etc. Visitors also find the cottage just the right space to relax and unwind - large and comfortable enough to stay put in the cottage and gardens. We've had musicians compose here, and couples celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and even get engaged! We've had people like the area so much they decided to move house! Whatever the reason for your trip you will receive a very warm welcome.
  • A really gem of a find -gorgeous, peaceful setting. Fantastic accommodation - attention to detail was fabulous as was the breakfast hamper and birthday prosecco. Highly recommend staying at Nancy & Louisa's place.

  • Pretty cottage next to owners house in large gardens in a beautiful quiet location. Very spacious for two. Nancy was very welcoming and helpful. Very generous welcome pack of supplies. One of the best rentals we have experienced.

    Gill2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • By far our favourite cottage (and we've tried a few). Nancy and Louise clearly enjoy hosting and go to great lengths to add personal touches and small surprises. The cottage itself is beautiful, spacious, and sparkling clean. We're already looking forward to our next visit.

    Fabian2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy's cottage was everything we hoped for - it is very well equipped (with lots of thoughtful touches from Nancy like the breakfast hamper/tea/coffee etc and great cooking facilities) and spotlessly clean. We spent a lot of time at the cottage as we travelled in January and felt perfectly at home. We'd love to return some day!

    Beth2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here, very well located for quick drives to neighbouring seaside towns. The place was sparkling clean and had everything we needed for the two night stay. We loved the log burner and the views. Perfect for a couple who wishing to get away from it all. Thank you Nancy and Louisa!

    Tom2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely cosy little cottage. Super clean. So peaceful, surrounded by beautiful countryside. A good base to explore surrounding areas. Nancy is the loveliest host.

    Caroline2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy and Louisa’s stay was absolutely perfect - beautifully decorated and super cosy with the log fire and squishy sofas (we were almost grateful for the wet weather to curl up and stay inside!). The hamper was delicious and Nancy left us a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate my partner’s birthday whilst we were there - very thoughtful touches and much appreciated!

    Alex2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was the first time we stayed with a "superhost" in Devon, and found the description apt. Nancy and Louisa were as friendly and welcoming as you could possibly wish. The property is a lovely converted old farm building, situated near to but detached from the main farmhouse and with beautiful gardens around. You could not get more rural. Everything has been thought of. The wood-burning stove ready to light, plentiful leaflets and information about local activities, lots of interesting books. The kitchen was perfect and the whole place clean and thoughtfully done. Everything we needed was to hand. We were even supplied with breakfast items and cider, and invited to the cider making the family and friends were doing that weekend! Only one thing to be aware of - the bedroom is in the eaves so it's easy to bang your head in the dark. Also, take care to notice the speed bump going into the drive if you're arriving late. We were okay, but can imagine it may catch a few people out.

  • Wonderful, cosy little nook in the Devon countryside and absolutely what we needed. Warm, homely and brilliantly equipped for us and our daughter - the only additional cost has been having to acquire our own panda after someone didn’t want to leave the cottage resident behind! Well placed for access to Sidmouth and Exeter. Thoroughly recommended.

Hayes End is a beautiful 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom single storey cottage located in the popular village of Whimple in East Devon. It is a short walk from a shop, 2 pubs and a train station and is a great base from which to explore the many delights of Devon. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 king sized beds (one of which can be split into singles - an extra bed available for families of 5), sitting/dining room with wood burner. The cottage has parking for 2 cars and a small courtyard garden for bbqs.
Hayes End is perfect for either a family holiday or two couples staying in Devon for a wedding. A real country retreat within easy reach of beaches, moorland or Exeter. The cottage has been recently refurbished with new beds and a kitchen with dishwasher. The wood burner adds to the central heating to ensure this cosy cottage stays warm throughout the year.
Whimple is a friendly village with two great pubs and a local shop/post office which is open daily. All of these are within a short walk of Hayes End. There is plenty to do if you drive with Exmouth and it’s beaches are within 25 minutes drive and Exeter city centre less than 10 miles away. There are stunning walks on Woodbury Common (15 minutes) or family fun at Crealy theme park. Further afield a 45 minute drive would take you to the beautiful heart of Dartmoor, Exmoor or the Jurassic coast and Lyme Regis.
  • This is the most AMAZING little home. Had a lovely 2 night break and wish it was longer. Lovely little touches on arrival and the most relaxing log burner. The pictures do not do this place justice. The owner is so helpful and accommodating but allows your own space. Within walking distance to a lovely pub, what more could you want. Do not hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed.

  • A delightful cottage in a very quiet location but with easy access to village shops and pubs. Emma was very welcoming and full of local tips. Lovely sized rooms, comfy beds and fluffy towels. There is a cute private terrace. Unfortunately the weather was not suitable this time but would make a lovely breakfast spot. However we made good use of the log burner in the sitting room. Excellent kitchen facilities and 2 well appointed bathrooms. Great place to use as a base for visiting surrounding towns and villages. Husband also thinks it would make an excellent writer’s retreat!

    Jane2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Can't recommend this cottage enough! Very well maintained, two large bedrooms with comfy beds and beautiful interior decor and fabrics. The kitchen is small but perfectly adequate. There isn't a washing machine so if you're staying more than a few days you may like to take that into account (though I'm sure Emma would let you run a load through her washing machine). The village itself is a great base for getting in and around Exeter. The Thirsty Farmer is a lovely village pub and the local shop and fish and chip van on a Friday evening are great. The living room space is small but adequate unless you plan to spend all day inside (and why would you!) and Emma is on hand for any local tips. We recommend brunch/lunch at Greendale Farm and Darts Farm too. Both great if you have children too as there are animals/playgrounds on site. Great cottage, excellent host and we will be back!

    Jessica2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fabulous and comfortable stay at Emma's place. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely vase of flowers, and were thrilled with the whole place, its beautiful decor, comfortable beds, lovely courtyard garden, sparkling clean kitchen and bathrooms, just a superb place to stay and relax. Our host, Emma, was so thoughtful, my friend had just had a knee replacement and when Emma knew that she got a comfy higher lounge chair for her to make her stay more comfortable and we thought that was so kind. we will definitely being going back here for a stay in the future.

  • A fantastic cottage in a brilliant location!

    Christopher2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • my friends and I enjoyed two wonderful nights at Hayes End Cottage over New Years. The cottage has everything you could need for a relaxing getaway, thoughtful touches like the Christmas decorations, board games and local area leaflets made our stay easy and enjoyable. The cottage is located in a great area with pubs and local shop a short walk away, Exmouth beach and Exeter are also only 20 mins down the road. Emma went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay and her communication throughout was brilliant. I would highly recommend Hayes End Cottage to anyone after a peaceful break in Devon!

  • This is a wonderful place to stay. Emma was very accomodating and welcoming on our arrival and provided great tips about the local area. The accomodation was beautifully decorated and extremely clean. It was great value for money. We enjoyed every minute of our stay and would definitely recommend this place.

  • strategic location for Exeter and Bath. Cottage ideal for family of 4 or 4 friends. Ensuite bathrooms for both bedroom. Private parking for two cars. Sofa for watching TV maybe a bit low for elderlies with knee problems. Kitchen can hold max two people cooking simultaneously but sufficient for our cooking adventures: fridge, oven, cutleries, pots and pans, plates, dishwashing liquid, oil etc. Has a BBQ area for summer. Very quiet area. Tasteful decor is icing on cake!

Come and stay in our lovely home! Our very comfortable double bedroom has floor to ceiling windows which overlook our orchard & fields on the edge of Sidmouth. Tea, coffee & biscuits are provided & there is a TV in the bedroom. Next door to your bedroom is a sunny lounge where breakfast is served, this is for your private use . The large bathroom with free standing bath and walk-in rain forest shower is right next door to your bedroom and (although not quite en-suite) is also for your sole use
Our house is a new build designed by ourselves just 2 miles from the beach. It is warm and cosy but also very light and airy with large south facing windows with views across the valley to the sea. You can expect peace and quiet when staying with us as we do not have children or pets.
Our lane is very quiet with only a few houses on it. It is on the edge of the town about 2 miles from the seafront and looks out over fields.
  • Nice place on the edge of Sidmouth. Really comfortable for a 1 night stay.

  • The property is very cute and 'cottagy'. The main road is a bit noisey, but the double glazed windows keep most of the noise out. We were there in February, so we didn't use the garden, but I'd imagine in the summer it would be great to just chillax in the garden. You can't park outside, but there is a little space outside next door where you can quickly pull in to unload shopping etc. Overall it's great value for money and I would be more than happy to stay there again.

Our cottage is tucked away behind the high street with easy access to the shops, cafes, restaurants and the train station. I would describe the decor as bohemian, with lots of books and games, plants and a piano. We have one cat (male, neutered). He is very good natured. We would appreciate you feeding him for us whilst you stay, thank you. The land adjacent to the property is currently being developed and occasionally work is carried out during the weekend. We hope you enjoy your stay.
This is our family home, therefore it is well equipped with things to make your stay comfortable and interesting. It is up to you to decide whether it will meet your requirements if you have young children. There are changes of floor level, and I no longer have infant equipment and there are a small number of things stored at a low height. We haven’t lived here long and there are jobs I expect to tackle in the future, like the bathroom, but it is a comfortable, serviceable and welcoming home. The mattresses in all the bedrooms were new in 2019. The bathroom is upstairs, as are the 3 bedrooms. There is a very slight change of level in the floor near the top of the stairs and then two steps into the main bedroom. The main bedroom is bright and spacious with a king sized wooden bed, french windows and a juliet balcony (this is not load bearing). The middle bedroom has a midi bunk bed with a 6ft long mattress at the bottom and a 6.5ft long mattress at the top. The third bedroom has a single bed with a 6ft long mattress. Downstairs there is a good sized kitchen with the dining room open to the side. We have an eye level oven, a separate electric hob and a fridge freezer. Please note we do not have a microwave. The dining room has our piano, a large oak table and 2 benches seating 6. There are two steps up to the living room, which has french windows onto the garden. There is a 4 seater sofa that can be a comfortable (flat based) single bed. There is also an armchair and a beanbag. There is a TV in the cupboard between the bookcases, we have a NOW subscription, and a dvd player. There is also a wooden cupboard containing lots of board games. There are books all round the house, please feel free to read any whilst you are staying here.
Honiton is a lovely town well equipped with amenities and nestles between two areas of outstanding natural beauty. The beautiful beaches of East Devon and Dorset Jurassic Coast are 20-30 minutes drive. And similarly the city of Exeter and all its amenities is about a 20 minute drive.
  • Very clean and cosy! Anna left us a welcome card and freshly baked bread! Lovely little home, would definitely stay again and would highly recommend!

  • Amazing space, location and hosts. We (2 adults and 4 kids and a dog!) had a lovely weekend stay, the lodge is brilliant, clean, cosy, well equipped. Timing was brilliant and Nikki and her son took us to cuddle with some of the farms baby lambs!! Great peaceful location, close to some lovely seaside towns and attractions (go to the donkey sanctuary!) we will be back for sure!

  • We had a wonderful couple of days. The lodge was lovely and ver comfortable. The extra touches of flowers and basket of goodies was welcoming and appreciated. The children loved playing in the garden despite the rain and meeting the lambs. Would highly recommend to everyone.

  • We had an absolutely lovely stay at Nicola's lodge. She left so many thoughtful touches and we had everything we could need and more. Everything was perfectly clean and it was very cosy. There was more than enough space for the 4 of us, it rained for our whole stay but we didn't feel couped up at all. Fantastic weekend, would definitely recommend.

    Andrew2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Nikki and Martin’s lodge. We were blown away by how spacious it was and the thoughtful basket Nikki had left which included milk & various other snacks. The lodge is very private and warm, with plenty of space to relax both inside and outside. It was very quiet, which was wonderful. Just at the end of the drive there is a public pathway which goes on to fields, which was perfect for walking our dog. The kitchen had everything you could think of and the lounge area was lovely and cosy, especially with the log burner. We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to come again in the future 😊
