Clean, quiet (sound insulated), high-ceiling domed, fully tiled room with (currently) two internet lines, located in South Bombay at Marine Lines, near Marine Drive, Fort, Marine Lines & Churchgate railway stations, Metro Cinema, and Saifee/Bombay Hospitals. Nearby/adjoining areas are Kalbadevi and Dhobi Talao.

The space
We are centrally located in South Mumbai, in Marine Lines, walking
distance from Marine Lines Station on the Western Railway. We're
fairly close to two major hospitals, namely Bombay Hospital and Saifee
Hospital. If you want to use a gym, I recommend the one in Saifee
Hospital. They also offer yoga classes.

We're also close to a major group of wholesale markets, namely Lohar
Chawl (electric appliances), Crawford Market (food and misc), and
Mangaldas Market (cloth). There is also a historic wholesale cloth market called Mulji Jetha nearby (in Kalbadevi).

I have described the guest room as a Tower Room. The room is isolated from the main flat area, so should be relatively quiet.

Our flat comprises the entire second floor of a two storey building. This is a fairly old building, with high ceilings. The building does not have a lift/elevator. To get here you need to climb 4 flights of (wide and well lit) stairs. The room in question is actually in an adjacent building, but the two buildings are connected by a bridge (see pictures). This requires passing through our entrance hall area to reach the room, via a short flight of stairs. The vicinity of that room is empty, so you should not get neighboring noise. I've also been at pains to make the room as quiet as possible. It's got a sound-proof door (30 db reduction), and the windows are uPVC (Deceuninck) windows. So the room is reasonably sealed off.

The room has a high domed ceiling, and the outside is painted yellow - you can see it in the photos as a yellow dome.

The room only has one door. There is no other entrance or exit. You'll have a key for the lock on this door, naturally. The door locks from the outside with a deadbolt and padlock. Since the door is soundproof, a mortice-type lock would compromise the soundproofness. There is also a deadbolt on the inside of the door, to lock it from the inside.

The room contains a single California King size bed (metal frame). That's 6 feet by 7 feet in size. Replacing it with two single beds is not an option, sorry. The room also contains a wardrobe, a Sony Bravia LED TV (with an Amazon Fire Stick for streaming), and a desk.

Amenities include the basics: A/C, bed sheets, pillows, towels (hand and bath), soap/shampoo, hair dryer, hangers, and an alarm clock.

There is a washing machine available for guest use. Please contact me for assistance.

There is a lockable refrigerator (LG/frostfree/inverter/260 litres) reserved for guest use immediately adjacent to the short staircase that leads to the guest room. There is also a small drying rack for guest use next to the staircase.

There are two internet lines in the room, a 50 mbps cable internet line (Hathway), and a 30 mbps DSL line (Airtel). There are two lines because Indian internet, even wired internet, is not particularly reliable. Both modems have ethernet ports where you can plug in your computer, or you can use the enabled wifi. Please consider the cable internet the main line, and consider the DSL one the backup. Feedback about performance and reliability would be appreciated.

Breakfast is included if you want it. It can be served at 10.30 am or later.

Our flat has a balcony style garden on the same floor (the second). And there is a terrace on the level above, accessible via a staircase.

Note that this room does not have an en suite bathroom. There are one full bathroom (sink + toilet + enclosed shower stall) close by, which is reserved solely for guest use. This is accessible via the balcony garden. Note that this involves crossing a space that is open to the sky. If it is raining, you will get wet without suitable protection. It normally only rains here during the monsoons (rainy season). Umbrellas are provided during the monsoons.

Additionally, as a backup, a shower room (containing a sink + shower), and a toilet (containing a sink + toilet), which is shared, are available. This is not be confused the main guest bathroom described above. Both the shower room and toilet are accessible from the kitchen area. Note additionally that the shower in the shower room is not enclosed - this is quite common in India.

Here water is stored in tanks, so each bathroom has a water pressure pump attached to it, which you will need to turn on. Each bathroom also has a separate water storage heater which you will also need to turn on for hot water. It will take a little while to heat up - allow 5 to 10 minutes.

I'll distribute survey/suggestion forms when you arrive. You can return them to me whenever you want before you leave. I'd like suggestions on how to improve the guest experience.

I have a PhD in Statistics from the University in North Carolina. My other two degrees are a BA in Math from the University of Cambridge, and a MSc in Math from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I've spent much of my life in various academic institutions. As you can see, my background is mathematical, but I also do a lot of stuff with computers, mostly at the software end. I tend to program in Python. My preferred operating system is Debian. I'm somewhat active on the Stack Exchange Q/A network. I've lived in the US and the UK for awhile. My favorite location is probably NC's Triangle. I like to dance, but locally opportunities are limited. Preferred dance: West Coast Swing. I also do yoga. A random selection of books I like: Nineteen Eighty Four, The Way of All Flesh, most things by David Lodge. Favorite writers include George Orwell, HG Wells, and Noam Chomsky. Music: Baroque choral music, particularly Bach. Also, in no particular order, Schubert, Handel, Schubert, Mozart, and Sibelius. As a host I'll be mostly hands off. I'll assume you want to be left alone, unless you indicated otherwise. If you want anything, just ask. I'll be handing out surveys to find how I can improve the guest experience. Answer them and help me improve. A NOTE ABOUT MY PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES: The flat/apartment you see in the listing was my mother's; she passed away in 2018. My father passed away a long time ago. I currently live here with my adult sister, who because of a serious childhood illness, is developmentally disabled/special needs and has the mental age of a 3- to 7-year-old child. My sister has lived in this flat all her life. When they were alive, my parents took care of her; now I do. She is a generally friendly and social person. She does require special understanding from guests, and everyone else. However, guests don't have to interact with her unless they choose to. Please feel free to ask questions if you require further clarifications.
