Mountain and valley views

Soak up the views during your stay.
Half an hour’s drive away from Kasauli, a sprawling, non-air-conditioned, three-bedroom villa with a treehouse and a fireplace on the deck for barbecue. There’s no TV, nor wi-fi. Great for privacy, minimalism and a digital detox. There's no full-time/live-in housekeeper/caretaker. The part-time help cooks for extra payment. More than four guests are charged at an additional Rs1000 per night per guest. Staff and children above 12 are counted as guests.

The space
Feel the burden of city living fall away from you in the abundant light, air and space provided by the uncluttered interiors and floor-to-ceiling windows opening on to the terrace from every room. The serenity of this house is underscored with minimalism in decor. The few pieces of wooden furniture showcase traditional Indian pieces juxtaposed with distressed, grungy or modern ones. Sadly my IPhone pictures don't fully capture the space or the charm of the place. You will yourself discover quirky touches in the lamps and light fixtures made with recycled materials such as rope, left-over wooden pieces, whiskey covers and even a mouse trap! The house is a story of our travels and our life. Each spacious room has its own character, afforded by its views and its contents - be it Afghan cushions, or an Iranian Tabriz carpet, or a Russian vase, a Japanese coffee service, Polish crystal wine glasses, Italian chinaware, or the posters collected from the museums we have visited. On the deck is a brick fireplace that can be used for cozying up on chilly evenings or for a barbecue. Kids will enjoy climbing up to and playing in the tree-house that was built specifically for the four grandchildren of the house. We have deliberately avoided keeping a television or having wi-fi to enable our guests to digital detox without temptation of screens. We do not have a full-time housekeeper or caretaker, so you would be on your own. Please note that your staff (drivers, nannies) if staying on our premises with you and children above age 12 will be counted as guests. Any guests above 4, are charged additionally at the rate of Rs1000 per night per guest.

Guest access
all parts are accessible to the guests.

Other things to note
Maintaining a house in the hills is not an easy task. Rains tend to take a heavy toll. Some repairs may be pending at the time of your stay. Please bear with us. The minimalist furniture may not be to everyone's taste. Regardless, the home has a lot of character and comfort. Please make sure you bring a lot of drinking water as we don’t have any RO system at home as we are not sure of the drinking water quality one can achieve in the hills. We do not have wi-fi or television. Electricity in the hills can be a problem, outages are common. While there is a lot of greenery outside, it is in its natural state and we have just planted flower trees and bamboos to make a tiny garden outside. We need to call for a water tanker every time there's a guest, so please do conserve water. We do not have a full-time, live-in caretaker/housekeeper, so please do not expect daily cleaning (it's on alternate days) or to be waited on.
