Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
A hillside hideout to escape, explore, rest and relax. Our light and airy bothan was specially commissioned by Studio Hardie, the bespoke craft team from Channel 4's Amazing Spaces. It is set in a grassy field overlooking an ever-changing vista of sea and mountains. Well-equipped and tastefully furnished, the bothan is a short walk from the pier, shop and ceilidh hall. Brave an invigorating swim in the sea, walk the beautiful hills or simply sit and soak up the tranquility.

The space
The bothan is an open-plan space with a double-height ceiling and mesmerising views from the large picture windows. There's an extensive outside deck with a picnic table for sunny days. Facilities include a well-equipped kitchen (two-gas rings, full-sized Smeg oven and fridge), dining area, a comfy settee and log burner, separate heated bathroom with spacious shower and Swedish dry-composting toilet. There is a mezzanine with double-bed (accessed via a steep ladder) and two snug boxed-in bunk beds. The bothan is supplied with French bed linen, fluffy towels, organic toiletries and for rainy days: board games, a bluetooth speaker and an intriguing selection of books about Eigg/maps/walking guides.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but please remember that this is a working farm with free-ranging sheep and cattle.

Things to note
Essentials: waterproofs and walking boots/wellies, slippers, torch, midge cream and sun cream, money (there's no cash machine on Eigg although you can withdraw money from the Post Office).

Eigg is off-grid and generates all of its own electricity through renewables (solar panels, wind turbines and hydros). Each house has a limited electric supply so please don’t bring power hungry items such as hair straighteners and hairdryers.

Eigg is an island, and boat journeys are at the mercy of the weather’s whims. It’s worthwhile checking Cal Mac’s Service Status the day before travel, as occasionally they change the timetable to avoid incoming storms. Cancellations do happen in stormy weather, particularly in the winter. It is advisable to get travel insurance to cover this eventually as Airbnb or Cal Mac don’t offer compensation for missed days or additional nights. If you need to spend a night on the mainland, accommodation in Mallaig, Arisiag and Morar can be found at the Road to the Isles website. Check the weather forecast at XC Weather.

Where you’ll be

Isle of Eigg, Scotland, United Kingdom

Eigg is a peaceful and enchanting escape from the pressures of mainland living. It's a nature lovers’ paradise, with a beautiful, unspoilt environment that’s home to a plethora or rare birds, insects and plants. A small and friendly crofting community of about 100 people live and work here. Together the islanders have been pioneers in community land ownership, renewable energy systems and community broadband.
In the summer month’s there are plenty of ceilidhs and music events, including the island’s independence celebration (June), the Feis (July) and one-off sessions in the island tearoom.
There are three sandy beaches, including the Singing Sands, the peak of An Sgurr, caves and lochs. There’s also a small crofting museum, a craft shop, tearoom, and bike hire from Eigg Adventures. Eigg has a well-stocked shop (groceries can be pre-ordered and delivered to the bothan. See the Isle of Eigg shop website)
