HOW TO REACH: Solan is mid-way between Kalka–Shimla on National Highway 22. The rail link is a narrow gauge(2ft 6 inches) railway track that runs through 103 tunnels and the line has 864 bridges. Your trip to Himachal and India is incomplete unless you experience this rail journey which has also been declared an UNESCO heritage site. It is known for breathtaking views of the hills and surrounding villages. Spectacular scenery along the whole route, and the marvels of its construction, keeps the traveler on this line spell bound. The route offers a panoramic feast of the picturesque Himalayas from the Sivalik foot hills at Kalka to several important points such as Dharampur, , Barog, Solan, Salogra, Kandaghat, Taradevi, Summerhill and Shimla at an altitude of 2,076 meters (6,811 ft).

The longest tunnel is called Barog, and is associated with local tales and legends related to its realization. It was was built by Engineer Barog (a britisher ) who was incharge of the construction. He started the construction from both ends. By the time the construction reached the centre their was an angle of 3 degrees and the tunnel was not 100% straight. Because of this the British Govt fined him Re1/- He was so humiliated that he committed suicide. Hence, the station and the city are named after him.

I am a travel enthusiast and "destination expert" for various destinations in India. I write on various travel websites. My favorite destinations in India are Havelock Island, Goa, Khajuraho, New Delhi, Shimla, Leh & Ladakh. I am a foodie and love mughlai food. I have a palette for thai, italian, chinese and continental cuisine as well. I cant live without good food, regular travelling, Bollywood movies, my family and my goals. I am a very well mannered, polite and quiet guest. As an host, I am flexible, kind and generous yet stickler for the rules. I believe in having fun within the laid expectations. I am a budget traveller and mostly found backpacking. Yeah I have a life motto that our life is nothing but the result of our decisions. So think before you decide.
