Welcome to the cottages (Gîtes) of Château de Chanzé and discover ‘la douceur Angevine’ the sweetness of the Anjou.

Well equipped and comfortable with easy access to the swimming pool and beside the gently meandering Layon River with spectacular views of the Château.

In the heart of the Coteaux du Layon vineyards, farmland and cycle trails; it is ideally situated for exploring the region.

One of four cottages - there is plenty of space for everyone to be physically distanced and safe.

The space
The farm buildings which formerly served Château de Chanzé have been completely and lovingly restored into Gîtes (self-contained cottages) while retaining the original rustic character.

The three adjoining Gîtes are convenient and comfortable with upstairs bedroom and downstairs living area with a sofa bed. All have a view of the Castle.

Each Gîte contains a kitchen with dishwasher, stove top elements, toaster oven, cooking equipment, utensils, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Linen and towels are provided.

Where you’ll be

Faye d'Anjou, France

We are located between the two villages of Faye d'Anjou and Thouarcé in the wine growing region of Coteaux de Layon and part of the Anjou wine region where the famous Rose d'Anjou originates. Boasting 30 appellations (d'AOC) you will enjoy exploring the diverse wines of the Anjou and Saumur vineyards and some of the world’s best sweet wines originate from the vicinity of the Chateau.

La Loire is the first river to be recognised as a UNESCO world heritage site and flows through the Anjou countryside while the climate and geology ensures the region's position as one of France's leading agricultural regions and the first in horticulture. This is a botanist's heaven as you explore the colourful backdrop to the Anjou at many spectacular parks, chateaux and villages.

Walk in the footsteps of history where for four centuries the political, economic and artistic crowns rested on the heads of three ruling houses in Anjou. Be in awe of the history and architecture as you view the local chateaux, manor houses, churches and abbeys.

Discover the fabulous countryside on one of the many walking and cycling trails on the banks of the rivers, vineyards or forests of the region. Outside the gates of the Château is an old railway track which has been converted to an easy and long cycle-way.

Bonjour! Kia Ora! Hello! We’re proud to introduce ourselves as the Operators and Guardians of the Château which has been in the Stosser family for over 20 years. Michael originates from Switzerland while Sonia (that’s me), hail from Aotearoa - New Zealand. As self-confessed gourmands we share a love for good food, wine, music and great company which can be found in abundance in the surrounding region of the Loire Valley. Michael trained in Hotel and Restaurant Management in Lucerne and in the ‘off’ season works as a private tour guide in New Zealand. This is perfectly combined with Sonia’s background in hospitality and wine and spirits marketing to set a relaxed and friendly yet efficient style of management amongst this beautiful setting. As a well travelled European Michael is fluent in Swiss (German), High German, French (well mostly) and English while I am very fluent at ‘Kiwi’ and currently working on my French.
