Cozy Room with Large Private Balcony!
A retired Chef and her husband offer a private room on the second story of their historic property. Queen bed, private French doors to large balcony, TV, WiFi, parking and fresh, hot breakfast.

The space

Casa Pelican B&B and Cooking School welcomes our guests (or other visitors to New Orleans) to also book a cooking class with us. Check out our Cooking School listing at and inquire about our class calendar.

Guest access

Our home is your home when you stay with us. You'll be provided with a key to the front door and there are no curfews. Just try to be a little quiet if you're coming back very, very late (which isn't unusual in New Orleans!). One important thing to note is that we have pets (a small dog and two indoor/outdoor cats). Those with allergies should be aware of this...although none of the animals are ever allowed in our rented room.

Interaction with guests

New Orleans has so much to explore, so we don't expect our guests to hang around too much...although it has certainly been known to happen. We love to have breakfast with our guests on weekends and make sure they get whatever tourist guidance we can offer. Most of all, we want everyone who visits us to leave feeling like they can't wait to return to our wonderful city!

Other things to note

We never charge extra for booking during Special Events (because we just hate it when hotels do that!), but during Mardi Gras we require a 5 day minimum stay (Friday through Ash Wednesday).

Algiers Point was a great hidden gem and added to our time in NOLA, taking the ferry was a fun experience and Karen's breakfast did not disappoint!

Karen & husband were great hosts. We enjoyed our time (though it was short) in New Orleans. As everyone has said, her breakfast is phenomenal and we enjoyed our beautifully appointed room. Bed was super comfy! Thanks again for a wonderful time! Amy

Our host was wonderful!! It was so nice and relaxing. It was everything we expected and more.. breakfast was truly One of the best biscuits and gravy. Wish I would have woke up earlier to get her recipe. Host was very nice and welcoming so was her husband and very helpful at helping us decide where to go. Thank you once again.

Karen's home was very comfortable and the bed in our room was amazing! Karen and her husband were very welcoming and friendly and cooked us a delicious breakfast! Their home was a quick walk to a bar, a couple of restaurants and the ferry to the French Quarter. Highly recommend!

Karen's place is like stepping into a piece of New Orleans history. The house is so well preserved, but updated with everything to make your stay comfortable. The room, bathroom, and private balcony were all immaculate. Karen served breakfast and it was one of the best meals we had while in New Orleans. She and her husband were such a joy to sit and chat with. We will most definitely be back!! Everyone should consider Karen's, as well as dining with her for part of your New Orleans experience.

Karen, Kelly and Pork were the most delightful hosts!! Their home is warm and inviting and they will go out of their way to make you feel comfortable!! Karen's breakfast is definitely something to write home about and her recommendations for eating and sightseeing out and about in New Orleans saved a ton of time and frustration! And Algiers Point is just the cutest little community only a 4 minute ferry ride across the Mississippi to the heart of downtown New Orleans..can't recommend them enough!!!

Chef Karen Duncan and her husband Kelley Dodd are the proprietors of Casa Pelican B&B and Cooking School. As Super Hosts, we are all about perpetuating the "Southern Hospitality" stereotype. We love entertaining, the art of conversation, music and all things New Orleans. Come stay with us or inquire about our Cooking Classes...but always, Laissez les bon temps rouler!
