Part of our old water mill home just outside Lymington. Renovated 'west wing' with a generous double bedroom including shower & toilet, and one small single bedroom with additional high bed, both overlooking the river. One further double room. New bathroom. Large bright living room with woodburner, flat screen smart tv, wi-fi, separate dining room / galley kitchen with all basics and riverside views. Direct access to large, beautiful garden and amazing wildlife - binoculars provided.
Efford has been the site of a water mill since before 1066! The Rogers family has lived here for over 50 years - a unique and beautiful property close to Lymington, the New Forest and the Isle of Wight. The perfect retreat for a holiday. All recently refurbished to include a double room with 5' bed and new 'en suite' overlooking the river. One double room with 4'6" bed, and bathroom accessed from the landing and shared with the smaller room. The smaller room overlooks the river and has one single bed as well as a high bed for older children / agile adults!
On the ground floor there is a well-equipped galley kitchen in the dining room and an adjoining sitting room with wood burner and television. Many of our guests choose to eat in rather than go out in the evening.
The cloakroom has a new Bosch washer-dryer available for guests' use.
Guests will have shared access to the large riverside garden and grounds. Please note, the river is not fenced and young children need to be closely supervised.
The entire guest wing will be available to guests and access will be from the front door with a key safe. Access to the garden as above - please note the river is unfenced.
Interaction with guests
We are generally around to help, and we'll provide our mobile number if we plan to be out sailing or away for a few hours.
Other things to note
Efford Mill is a a couple of miles outside Lymington, a lovely Georgian market town on the western Solent, very popular with sailors and visitors to the New Forest. Ferries from Lymington run regularly to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, another beautiful destination for day trips.
If you are arriving at the week-end, we strongly recommend you book a meal at a local restaurant before you arrive, as Lymington pubs and restaurants are very busy all year round. Some of our guests have been unable to get a table where they wanted to eat. See our recommended list in the Guidebook on this site.
Otherwise, if you plan to eat in, the little kitchen area is part of the dining room. It is simply equipped with fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, sink and storage space, but it is not huge, so we would not recommend cooking a complicated festive meal there.
Be considerate guests. We're sure you will be, but remember this is our family home!
We are happy for children to come and stay, as we have nine grandchildren of our own, but you need to be aware that the river is unfenced, and children need to wear life-jackets (which we can provide) in the garden.
Friendly hosts with wealth of knowledge about the local area, as we have lived here for over 50 years! We love talking about the old mill, and we are also dog owners and sailors (Jeremy is a well-known boatbuilder and sailor). We brought our three sons up here, and now our grandchildren often visit.
