Gabriele, italian architect, lives and works in Mozambique as a free-lance. He spent three years restoring a beautiful ancient portuguese 1700's house which is now a lovely place to take a rest and enjoy the Island's life. The old water tank is now a salt water swimming pool surrounded by a relaxing garden. Fan, air conditioning, family rooms, suite with private garden and see view terrace. Breakfast included on see view terrace. Safety garage on request. Fully equipped three-story house in central Ilha de Moçambique with a pool and three large en-suite bedrooms with ocean views. The lower floor is suitable for kids and has its own bathroom with a shower. Recanto Azul is a two-minute walk from the Museum, and under ten minutes to several restaurants, the star fort, and the beach. Each bedroom has a balcony and there are two rooftop verandas. Breakfast and traditional island food is available on request. Great place for up to three families!

Recomendamos a casa da Ellen para todos. Ótimo local, casa linda, acesso à praia e uma linda vista do terraço. zaida foi uma pessoa maravilhosa que sempre nos surpreendia no carinho com que preparava nosso café da manhã. Ellen é uma ótima anfitriã sempre pronta a nos ajudar. será sempre minha hospedagem quando vier à ilha de Moçambique.

O paraíso existe e se chama Vila Moringa. Ótimo local para descanso, refeições excelentes, natureza linda, e pôr de sol de tirar o fôlego. As pessoas que ali trabalham são maravilhosas e Suzanne nos recepcionou com muito carinho e cuidados. Recomendo imensamente esta hospedagem. Vá para Vila Moringa sem pensar duas vezes.

Comfy Room at the Charming Cafe Central

We had a great time at Café Central. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location is very good. We had a little problem with the booking as the room we booked on Airbnb was no longer available but they were very responsive and the room they offered us as an alternative was also good. The only thing that it was not so good was the WiFi that didn't work in our room. We have just one suggestion: the outside of the hotel is usually full of children asking tourists for money. Although we are aware of the poverty suffered by many people on the island, often the best way to help these children is not to give them money, even though it is very difficult. We were lucky enough to meet an association ("heartseed") on this island, which is dedicated to helping these children (and also helping them get out of the vicious cycle of getting their money by asking tourists). Their suggestions on the best ways to deal with these kids and help them (without simply handing them money) was very helpful, and we thought it might be helpful for other tourists as well. It seems to us that if Café Central shared with guests some information and tips on this topic, as well as the work of this association (or others that may exist), it could greatly benefit the well-being of the guests, and simultaneously help these children.

Great place to stay on Ilha de Moçambique. Location is perfect and quiet. The room is spacious, clean and charmingly furnished (as is the whole house). Comfy bed equipped with mosquito net. We loved the terrace; it offers a fantastic view and direct access to the sea. The boys working there are very friendly, attentive and helpful. We always managed to communicate with them although their English is quite basic. Communication with the owners is very good. They organised pick-up in Nampula and transfer to the airport in Nacala. Not a big deal for us, but things you may want to know: There is no WiFi, no door separating the bathroom/toilet from the bedroom and from time to time we had to ask for the water pump to be switched on in order to take a proper shower. This said, we can highly recommend the place and would definitely come back.
