Good access to Shimosuwa Station! We renovated an 80-year-old Japanese house into a traditional and clean space. (New open in 2023!) You can spend a comfortable time by renting the entire building. Recommended for families, couples and small groups. This area is rich in history and nature. Suwa Taisha Shrine, hot springs, Nakasendo. Hiking in the mountains and strolling around Lake Suwa are also recommended ways to spend your time. It's also great to explore the Suwa area on a rental bicycle.

Hands down the best hostel I have stayed in. If you are looking for somewhere clean, comfy and affordable in Matsumoto I cannot recommend this hostel more. The host, Takeru, was ever-present, friendly and approachable, and was more than happy to give his recommendations in the area, anything from local bars, food, hiking trails and even transport options. He is also more than happy to chat, and I even saw him go lend his personal hiking helmet to a fellow guest. I believe the host makes or breaks the experience at a hostel, and Takeru and the other staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. The hostel is situated in an amazing location, just ~5 minutes walk to Matsumoto castle and surrounded by lovely local eateries. Despite this being a hostel, I found the sleeping area spacious and comfortable, and the common areas were lively and a great place to meet other travelers or simply chat with the host about life in Japan. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

実家に帰ったようにくつろげました。犬連れでしたが、静かな環境なので犬も落ち着いてました。寝具やコタツ掛け布団など清潔で安心して使えました。トイレがコンポストなのは説明で読んでいたので問題なかったです。低価格で、旅の拠点にするのに場所もとても良かったです。また利用したいと思います。

Un énorme merci pour l'accueil ! Nous nous sommes sentis accueillis comme des personnes de la famille. Le lieu est magnifique et le petit déjeuner était incroyable avec du pain frais 🍞 fait maison. Notre seul regret est que nous n'avions pas prévu de temps pour passer un moment avec nos hôtes qui ont beaucoup de choses à raconter. Ce sont des personnes avec une belle et riche histoire. Merci !

Clean, comfortable and quite for 5 adults vagabonds staying over one night. Convenient walk to Nawate (Frog Street ?) and Nakamachi shops streets, and then on to the very impressive castle. Would stay here again if in town.

Kobayashi’s home is a real Japanese experience ,both in the traditional guest rooms with tatami floors and futon , alongside his courtesy and helpfulness. The location is good,as well, for major sites-and a bus stop is literally outside the door. The guest area is very spacious,and I enjoyed the screen doors and carved door tops. It is a very residential area, very quiet. I had to walk some way to find restaurants . The bathroom is shared,and going up and down stairs in the middle of the night may be an issue for older guests. While verbal communication is somewhat limited, Kobayashi is very clear and responsive by text. He is super friendly and warm as a person.

A little out of the way from the main attractions in Nagano, & it’s quite a walk to the house. However, it’s a calm & quiet place. You get to see very photogenic scenes as you walk around. The house was well organised & had everything I needed. Tatsue is very helpful with recommendations as well & will guide you towards a great experience in Nagano. Recommended for those who want to really see the Japanese alps, cycle around the countryside & enjoy the local vibe!

This place was amazing! I had a great time sitting at the bar chatting with the friendly staff and other guest, Everyone was so kind and welcoming. The bathroom and bedroom were very clean and well-maintained. They even offer bicycle rentals! If I ever come back to Matsumoto, I’ll definitely stay here again.
