*The* place to have breakfast or brunch in this area. It's not the cheapest but the quality is extraordinary especially considering the hundreds of people they serve every day. The meat is organic (from the nearby Ginger Pig butcher), the baked beans homemade and the eggs always just right. Served with sourdough bread and Square Mile coffee. Scrumptious cakes too. Mostly outdoor seating so wrap up warm! (Ignore the reference to Pavilion Toilets - for some reason the actual cafe isn't listed on the map!)

Drinks & Nightlife

The place distils its own whiskey and gin on the premises.
Don't miss a glass of excellent wine at this small but perfectly formed wine bar with tons of atmostphere. Many very rare wines from tiny vineyards in Italy and France. Also a great line in local craft beers. If you're lucky they may have a wine tasting workshop or live jazz singer.

Recently refurbished, this traditional East End pub retains its stunning architectural features but is now achingly cool, tasteful and fashionable - perfect for the hip young things. Huge beer garden and food too.

A fantastic independent cinema showing the main blockbusters as well as arts house movies. It also hosts the East London Film Festival. There's a good bar upstairs with quintessentially English pies to eat. Check out the art gallery in the back foyer too. If you're feeling like a special treat, book their luxurious Studio to get a comfy seat, blanket and footstool. A 20 minute walk past Queen Mary University on Mile End Road.

Parks & Nature

Recognised as the best park in London, or maybe even in the country, for the last two years. Beautiful lake with Chinese Pagoda and rowing boats, an amazing cafe for brunch and coffee, a huge playground (for younger kids in the western half and for older kids in the eastern half), and a 'wheel park' where all the hip young skater boarders and BMX bikers do tricks. Home to some very cool music festivals too.

Arts & Culture

A little known but seriously good art gallery punching above its weight. It's part of an arts trust offering affordable studios to artists but the exhibitions are of national imporance. Have a coffee at the Carmelite Cafe while you're there.
