Food Scene

This place serves great coffee and delicious vegan food. Try their avocado bowl, it's worth going back again and again for. There are often live gigs at night, many great jazz solos/ ensembles play here.

This vegetarian restaurant makes the best veggie lasagne in the world. They always have great local beers on tap, and also make some damn good nachos & burritos. It tends to get very busy at lunchtime because it's right next to McGill University and is in the student ghetto (not because it's a real ghetto, but because this area is mostly inhabited by McGill students). All the tables have little drawers with diners can leave notes, drawings and messages. Check them out, there are some gems in these drawers ;)

You MUST get poutine while in Montreal - it has to be the best late night food to have after a night out. There are other places out there, but this one is literally around the corner from the apartment and is a staple in this neighbourhood. It gets packed at around 3 or 4 am and is open all night on the weekends. Always go for the classic. (They also have a decent cheap brunch, but no alcohol license)

even though its a pub - the least expected place for a good brunch - it has my favourite brunch in town at decent prices. They also make a mighty caesar!

More than 12 brews on tap - rotate based on what's in season. This microbrewery makes some of the best IPA in all of Canada - you can even see what the upcoming new brews are. Gets very busy on the weekends, so be ready to fight for a spot!

Parks & Nature

Nice jog or walk from the apartment to the top of Mont Royal. On sundays, go to the bottom of mont royal for Tam Tams, you'll find drum circles, acrobats, and all of montreal hanging out in the grass picnicking.
