Sightseeing

Seven days a week, I start my day with a quick jog here. I think anyone visiting the area would love to see it. It’s like a small town within the city, full of things like mom and pop stores and really cute ice cream shops, lots of greenery and beautiful old homes. It has always been my favorite scenery. I’d recommend getting an early start around 6:00am. It’s a great way to get a morning sweat on to kick off the rest of the day.

Food Scene

There’s tons of coffee options in the area, but this is my go-to spot to get caffeinated. It’s nice but not fancy, and I really like that everything they serve is organic. I recommend a simple black drip. That what I order 9 out of 10 times. If you don’t do dairy and you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary, they have a house-made cashew milk which is really nice.

This is a really fun, cool neighborhood joint serving healthy breakfast bowls. They have a fully glass-walled kitchen, almost like a carwash: You can watch your order go from ticket to table. There’s a super fit, young vibe there too, so you’ll see tons of other people who are sweaty from their morning workouts. Some of the bowls are heavy in fruit. I try to avoid those and go for the ones that are kale- and spinach-based. And I’ll usually add almond butter, if it doesn’t come with it.

I love this place because it’s so different from all the other lunches we eat, like salads and stuff. Poke is a fresh Hawaiian fish dish. This has been really fun to introduce into my week. Fast-casual that is healthy is kind of tough to find. And this is really delicious. I always customize my order by getting the brown rice and kale base, and then add my proteins, vegetables, and sauces. I don’t feel hungry after the meal, but I also don’t feel so full that I feel sick. In terms of portion control, it’s right on.

This is a good afternoon tea spot. Matcha is a powdered, whisked green tea from Japan associated with tea ceremonies that is pretty trendy right now. It’s rich in nutrients and antioxidants, fiber, and chlorophyll. It’s definitely an acquired taste, though. They are credit cards only, no cash. They also do these community Pay What You Want hours, which is kind of an interesting give-back concept. They’ll tweet these out from time to time and during certain hours anyone can pay what can they can afford.

This is in the WeHo Design District, which is a fun experience for visitors because it has a lot of designer shops and things like that. I have a young daughter, and this place, which I’m an investor in, is family friendly if you go early, but it’s also beautiful and a good date spot if you go later. There are vegan options, and you can customize your order. It's definitely one of those spots in LA where your odds of seeing a celebrity are pretty high. There are always celebrities there. Jessica Biel is even one of the owners.

This is a place we just added inside Barry’s where you can refuel with all of our shakes, or grab and go food, which is prepared by Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop. We have options that are both vegan and non-vegan, which is more paleo oriented. The non-vegan food is all protein-centric and low in carbs. Post-workout, get the peanut butter and jelly protein shake and head for our huge outdoor patio where you can just hang out and cool down.

Parks & Nature

Runyon Canyon is an LA staple. I feel like you wouldn’t fully see LA if you didn’t visit it. It’s so friendly to everybody. It’s free. You get a beautiful view of the city. And it’s great for people watching. You can go with your kid or baby. It’s dog-friendly. Or you can use it for your afternoon run or hike for the day. There is a regular free yoga meet-up. The group has a Facebook page called Runyon Canyon Yoga that provides updates for the schedule. If you go, take an Uber—parking is terrible.
