Designed by the same person who designed Central Park (and his favorite of the two), Prospect Park is definitely worth a visit. It's a beautiful and less crowded (if less famous) park. You can reach it by a long walk or a short S line subway ride or cab.

Large, beautiful botanic garden on the Eastern side of Prospect Park. We really love this place with its beautiful, indoor climate pavilions and bonsai museum; large Japanese garden and pond; and various beautifully cultivated gardens; this place is worth a visit for all age groups at any time of the year. The tickets are always affordable and frequently totally free depending on the day and time of year. It's famous for it's Cherry Blossom Festival.

Arts & Culture

Beautiful, large museum with a beautiful array of permanent exhibitions (some of my favorite are some incredible paintings); as well as rotating exhibitions (such as a very interesting exhibit dedicated to the art and history of Coney Island). This is a suggested donation museum that is always worth a visit, but particularly during their First Saturday parties. These are expanded evening hours with free entry, live entertainment, and alcohol during the first Saturday of the month.
