Why locals recommend it
One of Sydney’s biggest tourist attractions after the Opera House, this spot retains the integrity of a genuine fish market. There are fish on ice displays, barrow boys in gum boots lugging around tubs, several seafood retailers, and cafes where you can slurp down freshly shucked oysters or buy live lobster and have it wok fried at the stall. Get down there early, between 7 and 9 am. It’s not as frantic, and the range at the shops is always at its peak. Plus, you might spot a rockstar chef shopping for menu items on their way to work.

Peruse the Sydney Fish Market and enjoy fish and chips or have mud crab cooked up fresh. Maybe fancy a hand at cooking classes at the Sydney Seafood School.
