Why locals recommend it
A must-do, this famous lake is home to a wide variety of outdoors activities. Pro tip: rent a kayak, paddle board, canoe or boat around sunset time to watch 1.5+ Million bats go out from under the South Congress bridge! You may also make a reservation at a bat sightseeing boat which includes a guided tour.
Tips from locals
This area is home to a scenic hike and bike trail as well as water activities such as stand-up paddleboarding and canoeing.
1 - Hiking and Biking - The Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail is over 10 miles long and makes a complete circuit around Lady Bird Lake. The trail is mostly flat and composed of crushed granite, making it a great place to go for a jog with friends or a nice bike ride.
You can go Kayaking or Paddleboarding on the lake and there is a running trail all the way around it that is awesome! I like the 4 mile loop.
Beautiful lake right at downtown Austin. The trail around the lake is perfect for running and hiking and can make 3, 4, 5, 7, or 10 mile loops. Kayak & SUP rentals are available as well.
Nice boardwalk you can ride a bike on, or just make a morning stroll. Beautiful city view and good work out
Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, walking, running and bicycling trails...beautiful!
A scenic run or walk around Austin will take you past some iconic statues, Barton springs pool, nature centers, Zilker Park, and to some cool places to rent a kayak or canoe! Please do not take any scooters on the trail, its against the law & dangerous for everyone.
