The marina is the site of a number of shipyards that operated in the 1800s. Historic signage in the area describes the colorful warbased ship names produced. Also, this is another Freedom Trail site (marked with a plaque), a small but strong community of black settlers in Fort Erie made their living by supplying lumber to local railroads and ship builders.
