It's a pretty little cafe, with a great selection of teas. The lemon iced tea is a favourite, especially on hot, humid evenings over long, languorous conversations.

You're in Kolkata and you simply cannot get away with trying out the Biriyani! Oudh is a relatively new restaurant but they do a good fare! Recommend the galouti kebab. For more authentic biriyanis, you need to head to Royal or Aminia - may not be the best in term of ambience though.

And in terms of local cuisine - this is highly recommended. I personally love their goat curry, biriyani, fish curries! Do not forget to order the Nolen Gur ice-cream for dessert!

Entertainment & Activities

Get a taste of Kolkata's intellectual side. In Bengali, we call it "aaNtlamo" (loosely translated as the act of polishing your intellect through speculative conversations) and the ones taking part are called "aaNtels". Unkempt beard, a jhola bag on the shoulder, a dangling cigarette? There! You have spotted an "aaNtel"! Soak in the theatre scene (at Academy of Fine Arts - right next to Nandan); browse through an exhibition at Gaganendra or visit the beautiful St. Paul's cathedral. It's all next to each other!

Want a taste of Kolkata's live music scene? This is the iconic spot - have heard recent reviews that it isn't as great as it used to be but it's always worth a visit! (Be prepared for crowds if there's a popular band playing!)

It's nicely tucked away - a rooftop bar and cafe, looking out into green vistas, often accompanied by live music. If you want a taste of the city's culture, please give this a try.

Oh a boat ride in the Ganges with the Vidyasagar Setu (bridge) in the backdrop! Align the boatride with a sunset or sunrise - it's a surreal experience. (It may not meet all the safety standards if you are mortified of water - in that case take a walk in that area - equally pretty and surreal! (the spot has high romance potential! =)
