One of Sydney's best kept secrets! I've been living in Sydney 20+ years and only just discovered this little gem! Only a 15 min train ride to Auburn + 20 min bus ride (Bus 909). Admission is $4 The Auburn Botanic garden features a Fauna Reserve with kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and emus, a Sunken Rose Garden, a Scented Garden, the Japanese garden, a tree lined Reflection Pool, native Rain-forest, as well as an Avery. Peacocks, swans and native birds roam freely in the gardens There is a picnic area, I recommend packing a picnic lunch as they don't have any cafe or eatery's in the gardens or nearby.

Arts & Culture

Part of "Sydney living museums" Built for the young military couple John and Elizabeth Macarthur and their growing family in 1793, Elizabeth Farm is one of the oldest homes in Australia. The site is now perfect for a day out; once you’ve explored the house, you can borrow a picnic blanket and relax in the sun. Bring a picnic from home or there’s also a tearoom that serves snacks and drinks.
