This recent addition to the neighborhood has an awesome patio, reasonably priced tacos and delicious mixed drinks. It's a great place to spend a weekend afternoon or evening with friends. Don't go if it's raining out as almost 100% of the seating is outside. And be careful for waiting times at peak times like Friday and Saturday nights. It can take up to an hour to get a table.

This is the hot brunch ticket on the east side these days, but I recommend going for dinner. The beet margarita is delicious, and makes you feel like you are doing something good for your body while you're having a cocktail.

Drinks & Nightlife

A fun place to watch a sports game and enjoy a pint of your favorite beer. The wings are pretty good too, and so is the Kale because it's LA.

Both a bar and a music venue, Zebulon is an ideal place to grab a drink with a friend. If you're hungry are some delicious snacks on the menu, mostly middle eastern foods, but I wouldn't go for dinner. The patio is a great place on weeknights in the summer, but on weekends it can get quite crowded. Check the schedule as the back room has awesome world music and dj sets. I've definitely spent a great night dancing up a sweat and the best part is it is just a ten minute walk from the house.

This converted firehouse is a fun bar. The long wooden bar is a great place to have a drink and a snack with a friend, while the patio out back can be lively, but steer clear if you dislike second hand smoke, as it can be a bit overwhelming on crowded nights.

Depending on your point of view, this is a cheesy red rope club thing to pass as a hipster bar with a sense of irony, or it is just a great place to go dance. Yes, there are lines and there are celebrities and the place is owned by one of the members of Maroon 5, but, if you want to go have a "Hollywood" experience without leaving the neighborhood, this is your best bet.

Wine shop that has atmosphere and three tasting nights a week. Such a fun way to spend an evening. Monday night is my favorite, because of the heirloom truck out front and delicious cheeses for free!

Entertainment & Activities

This old movie house is a classic. The projector is a little old, so if you're a cinematographer, don't complain if the image isn't the very best it could be, but the amazing room makes you feel like you have travelled back in time to an old movie palace. The tickets are also pretty cheap and it's right around the corner from Good Luck bar where you can enjoy some tropical drinks surrounded by asian kitsch.

Essentials

This place is amazing. I go to noon classes with Sian or Kyle on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The room is gorgeous and the instructors are world class. If you are into super athletic yoga, this isn't the right place for you, but if you want to reset your body and brain with some of the hippest yogi's around, you're in the right place.

I love to hike in Elysian. It is a bit grittier than Griffith Park, but it has better trails for shorter hikes and runs.

I run here three days a week. The loop is just over two miles so if you start at the house and do one loop around that is almost three miles on the dot. It's a great place for a walk on a sunny day and on weekends the people watching is pretty great. I will sometimes walk down to Milk and grab an ice cream cone and then walk back.
