Food Scene

We love good food and we understand how important it is to find good restaurants to eat when visiting a new place. Here is a list with some recommendations for you.
Makis restaurant is one of the best local food restaurants on the northern part of the island and it happens to be in our village. Maki's wife, Soultana, prepares everyday the best homemade traditional cooked food you have tasted while Makis himself specialises in grilled foods. Prices are more than reasonable and the dessert is always a pleasant surprise. So don't miss the chance to visit Makis and try his meals!

At the wonderful beach of Alaties guests can enjoy beautiful family moments both throughout the day and especially during sunset. Acqua Alaties Beach restaurant is located there too. It has a good mix of traditional with modern cuisine, nice cocktails and great views. If you plan to explore the place more in depth you might encounter a variety of different salt pools in between the rocks. There one could collect the best quality of fresh salt for food. So be on the lookout!

Beaches of the north

This is a small list of the beaches I prefer to visit when I am on the northern part of the island.
Emplysi is a charming beach, near the picturesque Fiscardo. It is a bay protected from the winds and it consists of white pebbles. It is surrounded by aged pine and olive trees providing natural shadow to the swimmers.

Dafnoudi Beach is a hidden beach at the northernmost tip of Kefalonia. Leave your car just after the junction of Antipata (there is a road sign, just before Fiskardo) and you see a path (600m) going through a cypress forest, which leads to the beach. The beach is a haven for the monk seals Monachus Monachus. If you are lucky you may come across one. The beach is pebbly, the waters calm and the colours vary from blue to green. In Dafnoudi you will find a cave with a small beach; perfect for most romantic couples.

Alaties Beach (Salty Beach) is a fairly hidden and thus unknown beach, located in northwest of Kefalonia. The intersection for Alaties Beach is located on the main road from Argostoli to Fiskardo, in the settlement of Maganos. This small beach is surrounded by cliffs, which many people use to dive into the crystal clear waters. Its name comes from the small hollows of the rocks, on which the sea salt has dryed on. The sea ground is just fabulous. Continuous diving is not recommended though, because of the stong commended sea currents.

You will love its blue and green sea water colors and the natural shade from oak and olive trees. The rich coastal cypress, perennial pines, oaks and arbutus trees forest, of the Erisos peninsula of Fiscardo reaches right down to the shore. Many travelers have said about Foki beach that is like swimming in a fairytale lake.

Kimilia Beach was once a well kept secret and the refuge of locals during the busiest summer months. Now clearly signposted from the main road, Kimilia is a secret beach no more. As Kimilia is so small it can become crowded quite easily. If you find that there is not enough space on the beach, clamber round the rocks to the right of the beach and you will find large, flat gently sloping rocks. If you love hiking a good way to get to Kimilia is via Emblisi beach. There is a lovely woodland walk linking the two beaches.
