Food Scene

This is the best asian restaurant, which I can highly recommend. They serve delicious dishes as well as self-made non-alcoholic food cocktails. Be aware that Chi Keng only serves warm food until 10 pm.

This is a budget self-service backery. Although this might sound unattractive the ready-made baguettes and especially the vegan börek (turkish puff pastery) filled with spinach is fantastic. They also have great coffee, way cheaper than Starbucks.

This is one of my favourite places. Not only is it very close to the apartment, its also one of the most delicious Coffee Shops in town. All cakes and dishes are vegan and extraordinarily amazing. Be aware that they close early on sundays around 4 pm.

This is more a safety info then a recommendation. If you are starving, its raining and you only have EUR 3,50 in your pocket, this place will serve very cheap pizza, which tastes quite OK.

The best supermarket close to the apartment. The REWE is located inside of the Markthalle. You will find all groceries you need here.

The "Brandenburger Straße" which starts close to the apartment is the "Fußgängerzone" (pedestrian shopping street) of Potsdam. Left and right there are plenty of shops to browse through. Take a look!

Getting Around

Luisenplatz-Süd – thats basically all you have to know ;-) From this hub you can hop on almost any BUS or TRAM to get to the "Platz der Einheit" and Potsdam Main Station. You'll find details directions via Google Maps of course, which is pretty accurate and the local "VBB"-App.

Besides "Luisenplatz-Süd / Park Sanssoucci" this station is a major exchange you'll pass regularly.

Potsdam Main Station – Getting to Berlin is easy: you can take any S-Bahn, because Potsdam is the last stop on the line. Therefore any S-Bahn will bring you to Berlin (Hauptbahnhof, Friedrichstraße, Alexanderplatz …). Usually the S-Bahn takes around 45 Minutes. If you are in a hurry check for the RE1 oder RE21 towards Frankfurt (Oder). That train only takes about 30 Minutes. Inside the Main Station you'll also find a lot of great shopping opportunities, a food court, a cinema and the grocery store KAUFLAND.

The Gate to Potsdam, called "Brandenburger Tor". This iconic gate, which is by the way older then the same-named gate in Berlin, is a beautiful landmark and will always guide you home.

What a beauty – Alter Markt ("the old market") is a picturesque place in Potsdam. Renovated with great donations from a famous german TV Host, who lives in Potsdam and others, this place was totally renewed and is almost complete.

Belvedere on the Klausberg
Maulbeerallee
This – by far – is my favourite place in Potsdam. Double-check the opening hours before you plan your trip. It is really worth it and you can combine it by visiting the russian Alexandrovka Colony as well as the pink russian-orthodox church. From the Belvedere you'll have an awesome view above Potsdam and you can even see all the way to Berlin. April – Oktober DAILY 10AM – 6PM March/November SAT, SUN 10AM – 4PM

Arts & Culture

This Art Museum at the Alter Markt ("old Market") just opened its gates a couple of months ago and is already a tourist magnet. One of the SAP Founders, Hasso Plattner, who is obviously also responsible for the Hasso Plattner Insitut in Potsdam, finally fullfilled his dream with the museum.

Parks & Nature

Truly amazing place and a must-see when you come to Potsdam. But don't stop just there and take a walk to the Orangerie, which is only 15 minutes walk away.

The Dragon House is a chinese pavillion covered in gold. I haven't had the chance to go inside. But judging from the pictures I've seen, I highly recommend buying a ticket for the different places in the park.
