Food Scene

On the other side of Torshovdalen, a fifteen-minute walk from my apartment, you’ll find Oslo’s best pizza place. Åpent Bakeri is a café and bakery by day, and serves great pizzas after 4 pm, in a quiet residential area. Try the reindeer and pomegranate pizza! (Open every day but the pizza restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesdays).

My favorite place for eating brunch in the weekends. Opened early January 2017, and has been critically acclaimed by food columnist for their menu. Pop in for coffee, dinner, brunch or a cocktail. Reservations recommended for weekend brunch and dinner. Tøyen’s best outdoor seating, next to the fountain at Sørli plass. Service may be a bit slow, sometimes, but the waiters are always smiling.

Grisen translates to «the pig» in Norwegian and as the name suggests, pork dominates the menu, but no worries: If you’re a pescatarian or a vegetarian you’ll find alternatives on the menu. Grisen has a great variety of beer as well, and a great outdoor feel in the summertime.

A barbeque restaurant and concert venue, located in a beautiful historical building at Torshov. The recently got their own gaming room, with retro arcade games and a shuffle board (haven’t had the time to check it out yet, but sounds like fun. Game on!) Check out their program at: www.hvaskjertorshov.no

A hidden gem of a natural wine bar/restaurant. Some of the best restauranteurs in the city opened their new place in November 2016. Have a drink in the weird, small and extremely nice neighboring bar Gurken Gurken Gurken Gurken before dinner.

There is an intense burger war going on in Oslo. After reigning for several years, the excellent Illegal Burger has now gotten a successor on the throne in the simple and great burger joint Munchies. A small menu of 100 NOK burgers is really all you need, and everything is home-made and carefully grilled to perfection.

This top Italian joint brings you rustic food from all over Italy and perhaps the best Italian places in the city. They also have the biggest Italian wine cellar in Norway. Try the oxtail ravioli! Also, try Bettola, the cocktail bar next door.

Drinks & Nightlife

Just a ten-minute walk from my apartment, you’ll find this new «mid-century modern» cocktail bar – a favorite of mine, when I’m too lazy to leave the neighborhood. Great drinks – and they have a pool table too!

A fifteen-minute walk from my apartment, you’ll find my favorite neighborhood bar, Perla. A tiny and superb cocktail bar. Try the Pisco sour! To get there: Walk through Rodeløkka – a beautiful, quiet area with old wooden houses.

Tiny, but with great cocktails, coffee and outdoor seating. A perfect spot for a cup of delicious coffee or cocktails. If you're hungry, Postkontoret across the square serves pizza, and restaurant Nord og Natt a 20 meter walk towards the metro stop has both bistro and more exclusive lunch and dinner alternatives.

The 20 seats inside this small wine & vinyl-bar in Grünerløkka is a much needed newcomer to the increasingly homogenic bar scene in the area. A carefully selected variety of wines, non-pretentious barkeepers, good music and trendy interior – well worth a visit!

Bar Boca is one of the smallest bars in town, but their cocktail list is nothing short of impressive. The beautiful fifties decor gives the place a great atmosphere and the bar attracts an interesting mix of people.

Parks & Nature

Just down the road, you’ll find Torshovdalen, my personal favorite of Oslo’s many green areas. It’s a great place to have a picnic on lazy days or if you’re the sporty type: Have a run. Torshovdalen also has a skating park and outdoor gym equipment.
