Deschutes River Trail – Awbrey Reach
Located north of Sawyer Park, this Deschutes River Trail section is constructed on top of the buried Tumalo irrigation canal and continues to its end at Awbrey Glen neighborhood. It includes a few moderate hills. Along the middle stretch, the river drops into a deep canyon while the trail stays high on the canyon wall, offering spectacular views of the river below, Riley Ranch Nature Reserve and of the Cascades. A steep climb up the Archie Briggs Canyon Trail connects to Mt. Washington Drive. There is no access across river to Riley Ranch Nature Reserve.
Access: Sawyer Park. Parking is very limited beyond Sawyer Park. Length 3.9 miles

Farewell Bend Park
Farewell Bend is located along the Deschutes River near the base of the Bill Healy Memorial Bridge. The Deschutes River Trail runs the length of the park and connects the park to the Old Mill District to the northeast, to Riverbend Park across the river and to the South Canyon Bridge to the south. In the center of the park, a playground featuring a “lumber mill” theme is popular for children and families. There are two viewing shelters, a boardwalk along the river, interpretive signage and a playground. A large picnic shelter is available in addition to two small shelters.

Tumalo Falls Trail
Hiking trail leading up to the top of a 97-ft. tall waterfall in Deschutes National Forest. This very popular site offers beautiful views of Tumalo Falls just a few minutes from the trailhead. There are areas for picnicking and access to hiking and mountain biking trails.

Located just over five miles west of Bend, this popular day use area sits along the Deschutes River. This site offers hiking access to the Deschutes River Trail and several areas for picnicking next to the river. There are toilets and picnic tables at this site. Drive up Century Dr and turn left on Road 44 opposite the visitor center.

Shevlin Commons Trailhead
A 652-acre nature preserve features extensive hiking & cross-country ski trails, fishing & picnic sites.
This cherished, regional park had its beginnings as a donation to the community in 1920. Although the nearly 1,000-acre park has a paved road, three developed picnic sites and Aspen Hall within its boundaries, most of the park remains undeveloped. Tumalo Creek rambles through the park with several foot bridges providing opportunities to cross over to the eastern section of the park. In 2017, the District added 329 acres south of the park. This addition was made possible by a federal grant from the U.S. Forest Service Community and Tree Farm, LLC.

Riverbend Park is a 13.1-acre along the Deschutes River, near the Old Mill District. Riverbend Park provides year-round river access, open lawn and miles of scenic paved and unpaved paths with riparian conservation areas for local wildlife. Riverbend Park is a very popular summer destination for river floating and summer events. Expect limited parking and a high volume of trail and river use traffic during warm summer days or Mill events.
With its central location, Riverbend Park provides access to south canyon trails, access to Farewell Bend Park via footbridge and downstream river access to Miller’s Landing, McKay Park, Bend Whitewater Park, Columbia Park, Harmon Park, and the scenic Mirror Pond in Drake Park.

The Bend Whitewater Park is owned and operated by the Bend Park and Recreation District. This river recreation park was built in partnership with the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance in 2007. It is located on the Deschutes River near the Old Mill District. This amenity offers tubing, kayaking and surfing.

Sparks Lake:
Surrounded by 370 acres of wetland wildlife habitat with South Sister as a scenic backdrop, Sparks Lake is popular quick getaway for folks in town. The lake provides a stellar setting for paddleboarding or sunset dinners. Views of Mt. Bachelor and Broken Top are to the north. The lake at its deepest point is just 10 feet deep yet provides some of the best trout fly fishing around. Look for the yellow-flowers of Indian pond lily in small ponds at the meadow's northwest corner.
From Bend: Sparks Lake is located about 25 miles west of Bend off the Cascade Lakes Highway. Turn southwest onto Forest Road 46-400 for 1.6 miles to boat launch and campground.
