Food Scene

This is a gallery cafe with an enviable location From here you can see the magnificient Maputo's sunset, the night lights illuminating the city and the other side of the bay (Catembe). Very beautiful. I recommend a caipirinha and especially the feta cheese samosas covered with honey and sesame seeds ... not to be missed!

For breakfast and light meals. There are many Taverna Doce Coffeee places in Maputo but I prefer the one at Jardim dos Namorados, Frederich Engels Av. This is my favourite because of the wonderful sea view. This is the right place to have your breakfast. It is not cheap but the quality of the products is very good. Try the "Pasteis de Nata".

Take the ferryboat, cross the bay to Catembe, walk in the beach to the left side and find Diogo Restaurant. A very good restaurant with tradition to serve the best sea food and fish. It takes 20 minutes to cross the bay, then walk another 25 minutes on the beach and have a wonderful lunch. Enjoy your day!

A day or two in Inhaca Island can be a wonderful option. You can take the ferry (3 hours) or a speed touristic boat (1 hour) and go to the Island. The ferry takes you to Inhaca and you make your own plan to go around in the island. The tour boats take you to Ponta de Santa Maria, a beautiful spot in the island, for snorkelling and swimming in those beautiful green/bluish warm waters, returning to Inhaca for lunch. On the return to Maputo they stop in Portuguese Island, a natural reserve.

Considered one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world; I recommend the visit to the Museum of the Railway Station, inside the station. Very recent, modern, well-structured and informative; It is interesting to notice the large posters that are hanging along the pathway inside the station. The Santo António da Polana’s Church, or simply Igreja da Polana, is an emblematic building of modernist architecture; Built in 1962 and designed by the renowned architect Nuno Craveiro Lopes; It has the shape of an inverted flower, but some say it looks more like a lemon squeezer; It has colour glasses that give a celestial light inside the church; In 1992, it went through a total refurbishment that left it as it was initially - enthralling! In the garden there is an identical church to the original one, but in miniature. Isto

Parks & Nature

FEIMA - Feira de artesanato, flores e gastronomia de Maputo This is a park where you can find two restaurants. There is a restaurant serving Italian and Mozambican food and there is another restaurant with Mozambican food only. I like the Mozambican food one. The food is good and the prices are really very good. Here you can have genuine local food. If you are a group try to ask for different dishes and taste a bit of everything. I would reccommend our "Matapa", vegetarian or with sea food, "Feijao Nhemba", "Quiabos", "chamussas" and "rissois". Try to eat with shima (our polenta).

I advise you to choose a lodge that is well away from the centre of the village, to avoid crowds, especially

Interesting for its ethnography and the unique collection of pheatus of elephants. It is worth to visit especially because you are going to help supporting this museum. In the back side of the museum, week days, you can meet some famous artists carving the wood and working on beautiful pieces of art. This is where the famouse Maconde artist, Reinata, can be found.
