Madeleine Day Sails: Day Sail on the Schooner Madeleine - Approximately 90 minute sail aboard the 72 foot schooner Madeleine through Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. Madeleine is a traditional Bermuda rig schooner specifically designed and built to carry passengers easily and safely through local waters. Coast Guard inspected annually, Madeleine is the perfect choice for a great sailing experience on the bay. Day trips offer complimentary bottled water and soft drinks. Our crew will show you many historical points of interest along the waterfront including a number of estates, islands and lighthouses. For your convenience, a restroom is available onboard. Keep in mind that weather conditions can change rapidly, and that temperatures are lower on the water than on land. Please dress accordingly. Madeleine is the oldest operating and most popular sailing vessel open to the public in Newport. Reservations are highly suggested, particularly on weekends throughout the summer months. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and a camera. Madeleine Sunset Sails: Sunset Sail on the Schooner Madeleine – Between 1 ½ & 2 hours in length depending on time of season. Enjoy complimentary champagne and beer while basking in the warm glow of a beautiful sunset on Narragansett Bay. While Madeleine’s sunset sail is probably the most popular sail that we do, it’s also the coolest trip we do. We recommend a sweater during the summer months and a jacket in spring and fall. Reservations highly suggested ahead as this trip will sell out most evening throughout the summer. http://www.cruisenewport.com/ 401-847-0298

The Cliff Walk along the eastern shore of Newport, RI is world famous as a public access walk that combines the natural beauty of the Newport shoreline with the architectural history of Newport's gilded age. Wildflowers, birds, geology ... all add to this delightful walk. What makes Cliff Walk unique is that it is a National Recreation Trail in a National Historic District. http://www.cliffwalk.com/

The BEST place in Newport to drink a cocktail and catch a sunset. Have a glass of wine on the lawn overlooking the mouth of Narragansett Bay. Food is good... but pricey - for the budget conscious just go to have a drink to enjoy the million dollar view.

The NMAI restores, conserves, researches provenance, exhibits and interprets its unique collection of original illustration art works in order to preserve this rich and significant part of our heritage. These art works include many milestone pieces created by artist/illustrators such as Norman Rockwell, Maxfield Parrish, Charles Dana Gibson, Howard Pyle ('Father of American Illustration'), NC Wyeth, Jessie Willcox Smith, JC Leyendecker, Violet Oakley, and over 150 other luminaries. Originally created to be reproduced in magazines and newspapers, as posters, advertisements, on products such as greeting cards, and the like. Because of their technical execution, the creativity they exude, the context in which they were created, and the purpose of their commission, they remain a poignant bookmark of our shared history, our American civilization. With illustration art now accepted as a meaningful part of the fine arts spectrum, these works have earned a lofty role in art history to the point where they are considered "the most American of American art." Over the years, the NMAI has organized, curated and toured over seventy exhibitions worldwide, including the Norman Rockwell's America in England... exhibit at Dulwich Picture Gallery in London, the oldest art museum in England on the occasion of their 200th Anniversary (1811-2011). That exhibition was reviewed by the London Times as being "Completely exceptional" and was named "The best art exhibition in London for 2013."

For automobile enthusiasts. The Audrain collection is comprised of over 160 of the rarest and most remarkable vehicles in history, and houses fully restored vehicles ranging from the beginning of the 20th Century to modern day. To keep the museum fresh, the entire collection is never displayed at once. Instead, vehicles are showcased based on periodically changing exhibition themes. This gives visitors and members of the museum the opportunity to have a completely unique experience with each visit.
