  • Ann and her husband has a very nice farm with various animals - ostrich, emu, donkey, horses, lama, alpacas, sheep, goat, a pig, dogs and a lot of lovely kittens. We and our kids enjoyed it so much. It was easy to visit the animals. Breakfast is great. Ann is genuinely hospital and helpful with local tips. We stayed in the bungalow, which may be a bit dated, but everything works. Good ambiance. Can only recommend.

  • As others have said, this place is a must if you are an animal lover. We were in the area to visit the glow worm caves, but Ann’s place could have been the destination. We visited for our two nights with our 3 kids (ages 4, 8, and 10) and they would have moved in if they could. Ann is a superb host and makes a delicious breakfast. She also had great local recommendations. The cottage is quaint, very clean and comfortable. There is a nice porch with a grill, and the kitchen has everything you need to cook in. We definitely enjoyed this unique farm stay and highly recommend!

  • Ann's home is very welcoming and comfortable, and if I have a chance to come again, I will choose here again.

    Adam2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you enjoy animals then this is the place to stay! We were heading to the glow worm caves and needed a place nearby and Ann’s farm was a great fit for our family. The accommodations are comfortable and she had a fan to help cool the bungalow off. She gave us a farm tour so my kids got to get up close with all of the animals she has from ostriches to ponies. There were kittens and some dogs as well so my kids were very happy! Plus it is only a few minutes to the glow worm caves which was easy for us the next morning.

  • We had an absolutely brilliant stay with a toddler and two teenagers. Our toddler loved the animal tour, we could barely peel her away. Ann and her husband are super hosts who give a fantastic breakfast. Five minutes down the road from the caves and restaurants, Roselands BBQ was great and Ann herself owns a local cave which we didn’t have time to visit but we will if we get to come again. A super place, 100% recommended. The cats, dogs, ponies etc are super and we were sad to leave ! Perfect Accommodation with a great relaxed feel :)

    Rebecca2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is as good as it looks. The animal show is well worth it, so make sure you’re there for 5pm. Very close to the caves and great host

    Jeremy2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • There are too many cute animals on the farm, and the children are very happy.

    2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • My kids love animals so this was the perfect spot for them. They really enjoyed the brand new baby kittens. And the dogs 🐕 , bunnies 🐰 , tortoise 🐢 , sheep 🐑 , pig 🐖 , emus, ostriches , alpacas 🦙 and llama. Ann is a gracious host. She makes a killer homemade breakfast.

  • This is an amazing place to stay if you’re spending time in the Waitomo area. The farm is easy to find, Sandra is warm and kind, and you get a great big space all to your self with an incredible view of the valley. Highly recommended!

    Travis2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Spotless clean, very comfy & a wonderful host. My only regret was staying only 1 night

    Michelle2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra’s place is sparkling clean and in a terrific off-road pastoral setting. Absolutely quiet and charming, on the family farm. The bed was luxuriously comfortable and we slept the best in three weeks of travel. Besides the great large space, with kitchen, a real treat is meeting Sandra and her dog Mojo. One of the kind and wonderful people in the world. Location is great, too, as it is a simple drive to the caves and Waitomo Village. Sometimes one arrives at a place to find it not quite as imagined from descriptions. Sandra’s place was above and beyond the description. Absolutely lovely.

    Jan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra was an awesome host! Lovely place, clean, welcoming with great views of farmland and beautiful sunset. Great suggestions of things to do locally. Really enjoyed the peace and quiet and getting away from the city life 😊.

  • Rock Retreat is perfect. We stayed here between the Waitomo Caves and heading to Hobbiton. The location was perfect - just off the beaten path but close enough for a jaunt to town for dinner. The view is stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed catching the sunrise over the hills and devouring Biddy’s homemade yogurt and apricots. 10/10 would stay again.

    Catie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • One of the nicest BnB‘s we stayed in during our 10 week journey through whole NZ. Clean, tranquil, wonderful terrace with a hammock we loved, a bath almost in the bush, best tap water we ever tasted, a sweet possum said hello at night - and soooo comfy beds we slept very well in.... highly recommend!

    Martina2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Biddy and family were amazing!!! Not a single problem... If you want peace and relaxation this is it! I cannot remember have stayed at such a place with such OUTSTANDING & truly BEAUTIFUL views; waking up each morning to a view like that was awesome!!! If you want peace and relaxation you must check out Biddys place!!!... oh btw that have the most cutest dogs, whom are super friendly; we were lucky enough to have one of their dogs visit the cottage [of which is located in a nice private part of there property] several times which was cool... 10 out 10!!!

    Matt2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Extraordinary location, a place to remember. Lovingly assorted and presented breakfast. No Wifi, but this is a place where you forget the world anyway. As it’s solar powered expect not using hair-dryers.

    Christian2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very charming farm cottage beautifully decorated in a dreamlike landscape. You feel right there right away. Biddy's welcome is very warm and she has lots of little touches in store for us. The bedding is very good. Here no wifi (we limit energy consumption) but real coffee beans!

    Olivier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Rock Retreat was so much more than expected. We had the best sleep since we left home and the energy was quite simply magical. I wish we had had at least another day and night. Step outside your box and have a wonderful experience including the loveliest puppy.

  • Our stay at Ann’s place was wonderful. Ann is such a lovely host, really knowledgeable, easy to talk to and so friendly. Our room was very nice, with a comfortable queen bed and an en-suite bathroom. Ann also allowed us to use her kitchen including her cooking utensils to prepare dinner which we thought was super nice of her. The next morning, Ann served us a delicious breakfast with cereal, toast, homemade marmelade and honey from her bees. Ann’s puupy dog Phoebe was around as well, making our stay even more enjoyable since we are both dog lovers. We are hoping to come back one day!

    Eddie2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is a warm and hospitable person. She has a beautiful house in lovely, serene surroundings. We loved staying there and would go back any time. Ann’s dog, Phoebe, was an additional delight.

  • Ann is an amazing host. We immediately felt at home and had really interesting talks with her. Her house is sparkling clean, the pool so refreshing and the views amazing! Breakfast is wonderful, too, you couldn’t ask for more. Ah yes: Phoebe (the dog) is super cute!

  • A very kind, enthusiastic and meticulous aunt who treats the beautiful homeland of Chinese people.

    Xiangyu2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Ann's. The location is great, amazing 360 views from the house (and the pool!) of the cool landscape around while only a short drive from Otorahanga (and Waitomo caves). The bed was very comfortable, and a great bathroom (all sparkling clean). Best of our NZ trip so far. Breakfast with homemade honey and marmelade with amazing view. And not to forget, Ann's great hospitality! We also really liked her enthusiastic little dog Phoebe, but for the not dog lovers, you don't have to run into her as she was usually in her own place. All in all, would definitely recommend and we would have liked to stay longer than one night. Thanks Ann!

  • Very special experience to stay. Can feed the sheep. Grant & Jamie are kind. Their kids are cute. Especially their 5 years old daughter is very good host. She showed us the environment and played with my 6 years old son that gave us very good memories. Very special accommodation experience, you can feed sheep, the bed and breakfast daughter is not afraid to take us to play, my 6-year-old son can not play well with their children ~ good experience ~ just came to a section of stone road before, no need to Worry, it's right to go up ~

  • Excellent stay! The house looks smaller in the photographs but in reality it is spacious and has an excellent use of spaces. We were apprehensive about the fact that there was no stove in the house but Wendy has two electrical appliances for cooking. We couldn't ask for more, a calm space, surrounded by nature with all amenities, extremely clean and even toys for our baby. Thank you so much Wendy!

  • Tucked in the garden up on a ridge, this cottage has everything you need for a restful stay near Waitomo. Close to the town of Otorahanga, it was easy to nip down for dinner and come back to a lovely space in which to relax. There was beautiful fog in the morning if you're up early, and lots of beautiful cows grazing nearby. No wifi, but easy enough to get by without it for a short while.

  • We had a great stay and would highly recommend the Secret Garden Room for anyone visiting the Waitomo caves. Wendy and her family immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable. The room is set in a very quiet area and every window has an incredible view. The place is very clean and has everything you need. We particularly enjoyed breakfast in bed whilst watching cows outside the window!

  • This charming cottage is set in the most beautiful surroundings with outstanding views over the local countryside. The cottage itself is decorated to offer a space which is both comfortable and relaxing. I especially liked the map on the wall showing where all Wendy’s guests had travelled from. Wendy’s family gave us a lovely welcome and were brilliant at telling us about the local area.

And occasionally a dog. We are able to accomodate two couples travelling together if prepared to share bathroom. Second bedroom doesn’t have the view of the main room.

    Waitomo caves, west coast beaches
  • Where to start? Hospitality: awesome. Dave invited us in and he did an amazing job making us feel at home. Laurel checked up on us, and made the most delicious breakfast. There were all these small conversations that made us feel so welcome. House: the room where we stayed in was super clean, as was the bathroom. It was big enough for the three of us. The house has an enormous yard, where our 2 yr old son loved to run around. But the best part: location. It’s so peaceful, with an amazing view, and only 20 min away from the Waitomo caves. We wished we stayed an extra night here, and will definitely come back when we visit New Zealand again.

    Kim2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible is an understatement. Thanks Laurel & Dave for sharing your home & valuable experiences of the local area. Every suggestion was spot on or above. Any guests who would love to live like a local with great company, this is surely the place to be.

  • Would highly recommend staying at The Neuk, especially if you enjoy a good chat with amazing hosts. Although it is 30 mins from Waitomo Caves, it’s worth it for the view and hospitality. The cats were adorable and the bed was very comfortable. Thank you Laurel and Dave for making us feel at home!

    Melina2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location for visiting the Waitomo caves. Offers a spectacular view and friendly kitty company. We loved staying here and wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you Laurel and Dave!

  • The best stay ever! Highly recommended. The view is stunning, and most importantly outstanding hospitality from Laurel and Dave! We were welcomed with hot tea and cookies after our Waitomo caves adventure! Laurel helped us to heat up our dinner. The bed was so comfortable, shower room was great and there were alot of thoughtful touches! (: Laurel even has great space in the fridge to store all our food and she gave us a Ice block to keep our cooling bag cold. You can't ask for a better host! The breakfast was great too, with hot coffee, hot toasts and pancakes, cereals and many jams for you to choose from! (: most importantly, Laurel spends time with us, shared with us local tips and stories. We really enjoyed our stay here!

  • Annely’s guesthouse is great. It was a great location between the Tongariro crossing and Waitomo, which were the two activities we were doing in the area. Steve the sheep is a hoot and Annely and Damin were very kind and great hosts. It was a hot day so we had to use the supplied fan until it cooled down during the night. There was bread for toast, fruit, yogurt, coffee (French press), and cereal supplied which was great to start our day. My husband’s first comment on the spacious bathroom was “yay, a big sink”, as all of our previous stays had very tiny bathroom sinks and no space to set anything down. Little things make a difference. :) Thanks for everything!

    Laurel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, simple & recommended! We were warmly welcomed and integrated directly by both the family and the animals.

  • We spent two weeks in New Zealand and the two days we spent on this farm is something we will never forget. Our first full day there we had plans but our son ended up meeting a little friend and we decided to stay at the farm. It was the best couple of days- we laughed, sat on the porch, and interacted with all of the animals. They are all so loved by their caretakers and it shows. My 8 year old asked me before we even left, “when are we coming back?” This place is amazing and the memories we have created here will be treasured! There are so many important elements of life that are learned on a farm and my son embraced them all....

    Darlene2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is really quite unique. In case you like animals as much as I do then you will find your stay here very entertaining - watching ostriches, cats, cows, horses etc. The cabins are cozy. The hosts very friendly, telling you a lot about their animals and the surrounding area. The breakfast is aces. Comes recommended.

    Basil2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • I planned to stay there with my 13 yr old son but had a severly pinched nerve so I couldn't go but with no trouble at all Ann altered the booking so my daughter and her partner could take my son. They loved it in the Chalet and it had everything anyone could want for. They thoroughly enjoyed the cooked breakfast and just loved the cats keeping them company and the lovely welcoming atmosphere. They found it very homely and soothing staying there. Loved all the animals. I can't wait to go next time! Thank you so much! They haven't stopped talking about your beautiful place🧡

    Gaylene2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay when visiting the Waitomo caves. Our kids loved the farm tour meeting all the animals. Breakfast was great too and a chance to meet other guests staying on the property. Would definitely recommend.

    Kele2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Warm hospitality & lovely farm stay with well-loved animal family. Loved waking up to the sight of ostrich & sheep from my bed window.

    Diana2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful place! We had so much fun staying on the farm and going around on the animal tour. The accommodations were very nice, with comfortable beds and plenty of space. The hosts were absolutely wonderful, making us breakfast in the morning and making sure we felt comfortable during our stay. Highly recommended!

    Nick2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • He location was very convenient for Waitomo Caves and be easy to find. Ann was a wonderful hostess for our one night stay. She took us on a tour of the farm which included big birds (ostrich and emu) and small versions of many other animals. It is her passion and it was really fun to learn about and pet them all. The cabin we rented worked our great for two people needing two beds. Our little deck overlooked the farm so we were only about twenty feet from the lambs and ostriches. Breakfast was served in her kitchen around a table with other tourists from around the world so we had great conversation and received great travel tips. The breakfast itself has everything we needed (ham and eggs on toast, cereals, jams, tea, coffee etc.). Ann was a delight and I would highly recommend a stay at Big Bird B&B.

  • Great place to stay when in Waitomo! Big house, tons of room and sparkling clean. Also enjoyed the patio views at front and back of the surrounding valleys. The Huhu Cafe was just below us and we had a great meal there. Louise was great, answered any questions super fast. Definitely recommend.

  • Ann was extremely hospitable and went out of her way to ensure her local knowledge assisted our plans. The animals were a highlight. The breakfast Ann provided went above and beyond. We had to leave early so missed out on the bacon and eggs. Would recommend staying the morning for the breakfast and the animal tour!

    Jonathan2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We didn’t know what to expect from a farm stay and Ann and Russ made our stay better than we could have expected. They coordinated a private night tour of the glow worm caves for us when we hadn’t booked one in time and we had a lovely tour of the farm in the morning. They also upgraded us to a private bathroom space when they found out I was traveling with my pregnant wife. They were incredibly accommodating and so knowledgeable about the Waitomo area!

    Jordan2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ann really made our experience at the Big Bird B&B unique. Nowhere else will you have an experience such as this with free animal tour. We even got to see some adorable 10 day old munchkin kittens and hold a dwarf lamb along with hang with miniature horses! Ann is super adorable and so kind and caring and you can tell she loves what she does. The bed we stayed in was super comfy and the breakfast was perfect! Ann was kind enough to let us use her kitchen while we stayed however make sure you ask in advance! Super close to the Waitomo caves and about 10 minutes from restaurants and a grocery store. If you are an animal lover do not hesitate to book here you will love every minute of it the way we did! Thanks for everything Ann!

  • Great place to stay, very comfortable. Short drive to waitomo caves. Kids had a blast playing with the kittens and enjoyed the farm tour. Breakfast was included and everyone was well catered for. Would definately stay again.

  • Most wonderful place to be. Go there it will amaze you!

    Ali2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We were very happy with our one night stay here: breakfast was great and it was nice to see all the animals. We stayed in the homestead room (me, wife, toddler, and baby), which wasn't bad and fully suited our needs, but I think the chalet or bungalow would have been better options if we were staying longer since there's a little more space and privacy (although my toddler loved the collection toys in the house). The location is also very convenient to the caves and the town.

    James2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • We spent just one night at the Big Bird B&B and enjoyed it! Thank you for the very good recommendation for the BBQ and for the free animal tour! We enjoyed our breakfast with the homemade food! Ann is very nice and she just loves what she is doing!

A 7 year old modern house which is cosy , warm, and quiet, with modern facilities in a semi rural location on the edge of Te Awamutu. A quiet spot, although only a short three minute drive to the towns' amenities. Te awamutu is the gateway to Waitomo area, and has cafes, and eateries in the town. We are centrally located for a day trip to Raglan, Rotorua, Hobbiton, Tauranga amongst many places. We are two hours south of Auckland. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE CHILDREN.
Quiet and feels secluded despite being at the end of a cul de sac. Private courtyard and outside areas. House is modern and cosy, and sits on 3/4 acre of progressively maturing gardens. The garden was featured in the towns garden ramble last year and is evolving all the time. There are two outside eating areas, a barbecue and plenty of little seating nooks around the garden. We have many fruit trees, grow veggies and keep chooks for eggs and ducks for pleasure. We are mature ex pat British of 10 years in New Zealand - and are professionals, although myself being part time now. I have recently embarked on pottery and am in the process of building a little studio. The bedroom has a double bed, bedding and towels included. There is an electric blanket on the bed, and a wall heater should you require it. There is fan should you require this. YOU NEED TO VACATE YOUR ROOM BY 10AM ON THE DAY OF DEPARTURE AS WE HAVE TO MAINTAIN THE STANDARD OF A CLEAN AND FRESH SMELLING ROOM YOU WILL HAVE RECEIVED. YOU ARE WELCOME TO LEAVE YOUR LUGGAGE SHOULD YOU WISH TO POP OUT BUT THIS IS AT OUR CONVENIENCE AND CANNOT BE GUARANTEED.
This is a quite subdivision and similar entry homes. Neighbours are friendly and helpful. At we are at the end of the avenue we get no through traffic and it is peaceful. We border paddocks with a small number of cows (3-4).
  • Alison's home is in a lovely semi-rural setting. the room is very comfortable and the bathroom well appointed. I enjoyed sitting out in the garden in the evening and listening to the birdsong in the morning.

  • Alison is a great host with a nice accomodation which we really can recommend !! It was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed to lean back in our room and take the time easy. There you will find your own bathroom and a separate toilet. Everything was perfect. This is the nice way to live via Airbnb. We travel frequently with Airbnb and this accommodation is really one of the upscale! Everything is taken care of and you feel at home. I really need to mention that the towels, sheets are fresh and tidy hot! Often you travel with airbnb and you do not know how the hosts are and how much attention is paid to cleanliness and comfort. Alison is really great! We can highly recommend the accommodation! Gladly again:)

One of the last allied planes out of Vietnam, yes we are talking about the real plane.
900m away from glowwarm caves and local village
  • We had a great night on the plane. The kids loved it! Ideal for one or two nights with the family. We also recommend the Huhu café, a restaurant located 2 minutes by car and making very good dishes.

  • We loved our unique stay in the Tail of the plane. It was very clean and the beds were very comfy. It had everything you needed and we were amazed at the fact we were in an actual plane. The host was very helpful with our late check in, and she was full of tips for us in regards to driving shortcuts and places to stop to eat. We would definitely recommend this stay to our friends as it was great value for the money we paid.

Everywhere you go you Wil see some amazing creatures. In Addison, She makes fresh breakfast every morning and I’ll get to come together at the same breakfast table we get a chance to meet new people and mingle in him and learn something new for the day and I loved her saying when every you Yawn it’s just a silent scream for coffee I love it I wish every time I go back into the glowworm caves I will definitely stay at the big bird bed-and-breakfast. Awesome.I generally don’t write a review but this was just amazing we got a chance to walk with the ostrich and pet all the animals

    Pauline2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We came here for the glow worm caves but ended up getting so much more. We loved staying here and experience all the animals on the farm. The kittens made us feel at home as we were missing our own.

    Shannon2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • It's only eight minutes away from the firefly hole. It's a normal farmhouse. It's a real farmhouse. It's run by an old couple. It costs five yuan for breakfast. Come and play, the next day the owner will bring alpacas, cows, sheep, ostriches, and children especially like it. They do n’t have to spend money to other alpaca farms. This is definitely a selling point.

    Jessica2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is a great host! She provided a tour of the farm shortly after our arrival and it gave us the opportunity to interact with the animals. Bed was comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding!

With a botanical theme, a green exterior and solar water heating we are truly a "green" house. Our farm house is set up in the hills overlooking the Waitomo Valley Rd. and tucked amongst old fruit trees, ponds and sculptural limestone outcroppings. This house is 8km's from the Waitomo Caves and 6km's to Otorohanga. Parents will find peace while the kids play in our fully fenced yard and play room. A farm track leading to the scenic top of the farm is accessible most of the year.
The house is a traditional Kiwi farm house set on a working farm. We have cattle grazing in close proximity to the house. You will see and hear many bird species from the property. Give Patrick or Robin a wave if you see them driving by on the ATV or tractor. They are happy to answer any questions or stop for a wee chat.
  • Sarah's farm has beautiful views and unique touches. Great place to get a feel for country life.

  • Really a lovely house with a unique view of the mountains. Very clean and 3 good bedrooms as well as nice new bathroom. Good tips for e.g. restaurants in the nearby towns. We recommend The Thirsty Weta. Try to see the sunrise from the road to the right after the house, it is is amazing sight. We would like to give the place our best recommendation.

  • This is a hidden gem. We were mesmerised by the simplicity, pure beauty and cleanliness of the house its surrounding. Get ready to be lost in this peaceful, soulful and laid back paradise. We also got to experience the farm life and explore the beautiful farm land surrounded by hills accessible by foot and and see the amazing wildlife. It is one of the best place I have stayed at while travelling around Nz. Sarah is a super host, treated us with great hospitality and was fast to response to our queries. We will definitely be back again. Thanks Sarah for making our stay a memorable one.

  • Ann is an incredible host. The property itself is so cool- most of the animals are able to be pet, we even got to pet some young ostriches, and snap a few good photos with them! The stay itself was wonderful. A super comfortable bed, with really nice bedding as well. We had great chats with Ann and learned all about her cute cuddly munchkin kittens, and got to snuggle with them as well! Ann made us a delicious homemade breakfast with homemade bread, farm fresh eggs and bacon- it was the perfect start to our day. If you love animals - this is a must stay place! Highly recommend staying with Ann!

  • We were so glad to have the feeling of comfort and ease during our stay at Fiona and Leighton’s house. As foreigners we suspected we would have a hard time navigating the town of Otorohanga but our hosts were accommodating and helpful in guiding our group to what we needed. The rental space was plentiful and included lots of extra amenities to make the stay memorable. We loved the view from the back patio and were grateful to get to watch the sunset from the spa with our drinks in hand! Great value and perfect for relaxing.

Rotorua and Tauranga are 90 minutes drive. Close to the many walks and tramps on Pirongia Mountain. Raglan beach on the west coast is an hours drive away. Kawhia is a small settlement on the west coast 45 minutes drive. Te Puia hot springs are on ocean beach and can be found 2 hours either side of low tide. i will lend you a spade to dig your own hot pool! Plenty of off street parking Secure storage for mountain bikes for those exploring the area and the many mountain biking tracks. Bath robes are provided, as are cosy electric blankets for cold nights. A continental breakfast is provided, consisting of juice, choice of cereals, fruit preserves, yoghurt, toast and home made jams and jellies, and tea and coffee
Our small village is both picturesque and historic. The local information centre has some wonderful displays of early life in Pirongia and there are two existing redoubts (fortifications) to explore. The numbering system for the houses is a little different, in that they run erratically, not in the normal odds and evens - it can be a bit confusing unless you know! My street numbering goes from fifty to seventy two (me) to ninety next door!
  • It is a lovely quiet place to stay, this place is conveniently near to the Raglan and Waitomo region. The host Vicky arranged everything thoughtfully, we enjoyed breakfast prepared by her and got lots of helpful hands-on guidance about the neighborhood. We highly recommend this place.

23 km from Te Awamutu and 30 km from Otorohanga. We live on a 16-acre rural property. We ran 19 beef cattle, 20 sheep and have poultry. We share our home with our two cats and one dog named Pat. We have a pretty garden with many wild birds. Our outlook is a rural vista....lots of green grass. The room that we let out is called the blue room. The walls and ceiling are blue with matching blue linen and ornaments.
My husband and I are both honest, friendly, down to earth people with no frills. Our house is older and we are part way through repainting and decorating. We have big chunky lounge furniture that you can put your feet upon. The views from our lounge windows are pleasant of a country vista. I am also happy to cook a main meal by arrangement with remuneration of course. A typical meal for us would be meat with vegetables, followed by dessert. Most of the produce I cook comes from the property. I can also reheat take out for you too. If you have allergies to animals, grass, etc and hate pet fur this accommodation will not be right for you. As it is a rural setting we sometimes have dust and we are always chasing spiders and their webs......
We live close to the rural townships of Te Awamutu 23km & Otorohunga 31 km approx 26 minutes. It is a short distance to the local climbing rocks 5 km, The Arapuni Walkway commencing at Jones Landing 29 km approx 29 minutes, Sanctuary Mountain at Manungatautari we are 24 km and approx 20 minutes to the Southern Enclosure course and finally the famous Waitomo Caves are 47 km from our gate and is about a 37 minute drive.
  • Leanne is a warm and gracious host. She made us feel very welcome. The room was spacious and comfortable. Her breakfast is fabulous! Highly recommend!!

    Megan2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don’t do the room justice! It is quite spacious, comfy and clean. Leanne allowed us to take fruits from her garden and cooked us breakfast.

    Juliana2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • The room was nicely decorated, the bed was comfy, the breakfast was awesome (homemade marmelade and jam), and we felt very welcome.

    Andreas2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • It was a real JOY to get a close feel to the life in one of New Zealand’s farm’s. For us it was all magic - the scenery, dogs, cats, sheep and of course Leanne and her big loving heart that was reflected in her beautiful rose garden, romantic decoration, breakfast and overall kindness of every gesture and word spoken. It was a real treat to meet the owner and her husband.

  • A perfect private accommodation for self catering. Very clean and modern as well as stylishly furnished. In the middle of a farm you can find peace and feel comfortable. The accommodation is a little out of the way but easy to find. However, supermarket and restaurants are easy to reach in the nearby town. The hosts are very helpful and open.

Located on the outskirts of Otorohanga close to Waitomo caves. A family home where we work from home breeding Alpacas and spinning their wool in our spinning mill. Lots to see on farm and in our surrounding area. We have 4 dogs. 3 cats, 7 free range hens and 30 alpacas. If you are not an animal person we might not be the best host for you. We have a busy life, we have a retail shop on farm and can offer a mill tour at an extra cost. Or just come and enjoy the area. This is a working farmlet.
The house has two lounge areas and two TV's both with Sky. Kitchen that guests can use. Bathroom is shared with one other person. Four bedrooms, one large bedroom is available for guests. When you stay we will restrict the dogs access to the house. We have a comfortable home. Happy to chat with you and show you the area or let you do your own thing
Rural and close to Otorohanga, 10 mins away from Waitomo caves. You will need to have transport to reach us we are close to town. But its a good walk. We can possibily collect you from the bus. Talk with us
  • Thank you for providing us with a very special accommodation experience. When we wake up in the morning, the alpacas are really happy around our window.

    Kirari2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing and one of the highlights of my trip! It's very clean and the bed is super comfortable. I loved all the animals. There was literally a mom and baby alpaca right outside my window. They let me walk around and talk pictures of it, which I loved!!! They were super friendly and helpful with directions. I brought my own food for dinner and used their fridge. They set out a lovely breakfast for me in the morning, which I really enjoyed! They were super nice and let me do a small load of laundry as well, which was a big help. I'd totally recommend it! It's a great location for Waitomo, which is just 15 minutes away by car!

    Anna2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a true family stay. Julie, Grant, Emily, all the pets and animals will make you feel very much at home. They are great at conversing and if you are lucky enough they will take you for a tour. You do have your own space and privacy. Nothing fancy here, just good honest country people!

    Sarah2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot to explore Waitomo caves. Lovely hosts and close to town.

    Justin2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Best place to stay if you want to get to know two amazingly sweet locals and be surrounded by all their animals. We got to see alpacas from our window at sunrise, play with her brand new kittens, explore how they made wool into yarn, and chat all about living in New Zealand. Perfect location for Waitomo and the center of town too!

    Claire2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Probably my favorite Airbnb stay till date. Julie and Grant are very friendly hosts. It’s a great location when you’re checking out Waitomo Caves or the walks around there. It was great to talk to Grant about motorbikes during the stay. The Alpaca experience is a treat. The house dog is a quiet and adorable corgi, there’s also another dog and cats at the place that aren’t in the house all the time but are friendly as well. They also had a baby hedgehog at the place when we were around as the icing on the cake. Cannot recommend this any higher, especially if you love animals.

    Shaunak2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time at Julie’s, the family are so friendly and we loved being around the dogs, cats and alpacas! We felt right at home.

  • Julie's place was perfect. The host are lovely and the space is very clean. During the Xmas holiday, they gave us stick candy as a gift, really cute! We also had a good breakfast next morning. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • This was our first night in New Zealand and it was wonderful! Very new, all mod cons with amazing touches that made our first night so much easier. Kay and family were so welcoming, allowed our toddler to play on the children's toys outside. Showed us in and left us to ourselves. The outside spa is a must!

  • A new beach theme tiny unit as described. We were privileged to be Kay’s first guests to enjoy her well equiped self built unit. Well thought design for a small space. If you don’t mind loft style sleeping (will be uncomfortable for very tall people) then it is a nice, quiet place to stay.
