Places to stay in Tasmania
Looking for a home away from home? A place to rest and rejuvenate that is close to the city (10 minutes to the CBD) but surrounded by nature, her silence and peaceful sounds?
This unique and charming light filled room with its own private entrance, en-suite bathroom, and custom designed, fully functioning kitchen is nestled at the foot of the majestic Kunanyi (Mount Wellington) and offers an experience of everything that is nourishing and beautiful about Tasmania. The water views of the river Derwent from the comfort of your warm and cozy queen sized bed and views of the looming mountain above are second to none, with sunrises worth setting an alarm for. The land is abundant with wildlife and features vast organic food and flower gardens. All of the water (drinking and bathing) on the property, is sourced from a sparkling mountain stream that boarders the property and is some of the cleanest water in the world.
Countless nature trails, beautiful waterfalls, lush old growth temperate rainforest and swimming holes are literally just a stone’s throw away from your doorstep.
  • This place is great value for money. You are tucked away with amazing views as well as being right under Mt Wellington. But at the same time you are only 10 min drive from Hobart. It is the perfect location and the place itself was so cozy with a beautiful view from your bed. The host, Mieke was also very friendly and hospitable. I would definitely recommend.

  • An absolute must! Close to the CBD and all amenities, with everything you need within easy reach! Lovely private property, with great views of the city! We also had a wonderful opportunity to chat with Mieke, who gave us some lovely tips for places to see in the Huon Valley & Bruny Island. Would definitely recommend to friends!

    Natalie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We have enjoyed our stay at Mieke's. The place has all the creature comfort we needed: very comfortable bed for a restful sleep, silence, fully equipped kitchen (no microwave oven, but it was not missed), clean bathroom amenities, and a warm welcome. We will certainly stay here again when we visit Hobart again. Next time, we'll make the best of our stay and take on the walking tracks of Mount Wellington!

  • Lovely drive to the location, great location South of Hobart. Gorgeous scenery set at the lower end of Mt Wellington. Very cozy place. Enjoyed the ease and comfort of our stay. Especially loved the sandstone mosaic shower! Excellent all of the above, highly recommend!

    South Hobart, TAS, Australia

An original 1960's Tasmanian fishing shack, my lovely home features stunning views directly overlooking Little Norfolk Bay, 3 bedrooms, and a wood fire. Just 10 mins to Port Arthur, and 45 mins from the airport, my home has super fast WIFI, local artwork from Australian artists, and many good vibes! Come stay and get ready to explore the South East.
Welcome to my shack. Within an hour drive of Hobart, the house is the perfect weekend getaway. My home is super cosy, makes you feel welcome straight away and has plenty of charm and decorated with love. If you want a 5 star hotel, this is not it! The shack has lots of natural light, is beautifully decorated and tidy, with amazing views. It can get cold in the winter, but we have a wood fire, heater and plenty of blankets. There are 3 bedrooms; 2 very comfy double beds and one sofa bed (a king single or small double) for extra guests, plus with a large desk, with very fast WIFI.
The house is located on Arthur Hwy, with Little North Bay directly opposite, giving amazing water views and ease of finding the house. Things to do on the Tasman Peninsula: Nature - Pirate Bay lookout (before you get to Eaglehawk Neck from Hobart), the far end of White Beach is really pretty or drive out to Lime Bay (dirt road). If you want to see some Tasmania devils, there is the Unzoo a couple of minutes from the house. Active - there's a ton of hikes locally: Waterfall Bay (easy), Cape Huay, Shipstern Bluff (3 hours), The Lanterns, Fortescue Bay (4 hours worth it!), the 3 Capes just opened - looks amazing! History - If history is more your thing, Port Arthur convict settlement run amazing tours and is only 10km south of the house. Recommend the boat tour, and taking most of the day to explore. Also near Lime Bay is the Coal Mines, a nice walk if the weather is good. Food - Eat yummy fresh food; cherries (just south of Sorell is cherry farms, stop and grab some for the ride. The A9 heads south and is a beautiful drive), cray rolls (in Dunalley stop at the general store on Booth St and grab fresh cray rolls for lunch, yum. There's a viewing pull out over looking Dunalley Bay when you leave Dunalley - the sand ridges and turquoise water are beautiful), oysters (on the deck with a cold chardonnay), amazing locally made chutney, pickled fruit, quince (Nubenna op shop open Tues 10-3, Fri 10-3, Sat 10-1), fish and chips (Eaglehawk Neck near the pier, open late Sept - late May) Shopping - Op shopping is great in rural areas; Salvos (Station Lane, Sorell), Vinnies (Sorell), antiques at Murdunna (tiny old Post Office converted into a treasure trove of goodies), Nubenna (behind the petrol station, by the tennis courts), Dunalley (behind the community centre). Chill at the house - cheese platter on the deck, red wine by the fire, board games galore, read a book, and make sure you walk down to the jetty with some blankets and check out the stars… Hobart: MONA for the day (you can drive (easy), hire bikes (hard), or get the MONA ferry (fun - but an extra $20 on your ticket price), Tasmanian Muséum and Art Gallery is worth the trip, book an adorable and individual room at the gorgeous Hotel Alabama run by Kelly and Aeron in town, Mt Wellington for views, Criterion Street Cafe for breakie, or coffee at Betsys on Argyle st and say g'day to Charlie the owner. Extra time: Coles Bay, Strathgordon, Bay of Fires, Cradle Mountain, Trainee National Park, Bruny Island, Launceston gorge, The Apple Shed (best cider in Tasmania, and yummy cheese platters) plus great drives. *Please start your message with HOLA FRANKIE so I know you've read this!*
  • Frankie’s place is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle. It was so cute and quirky, with amazing design touches throughout. We loved snuggling up by the fire with the many blankets available and enjoying the complimentary bottle of wine! A great spot to base yourself to explore the many amazing hikes in the area. Can’t recommend enough.

    Sammy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Fab host, cute home in a special spot. Very relaxing! Only wish there was laundry facilities. Thank you Frankie!

    Katrina2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Frankie’s home was absolutely beautiful! Very stylish with a lot of thoughtful touches. Watching the sunset from the front room and balcony with the wine she left for us was the perfect way to end the evening. Loved being able to have a fire as well. Would highly recommend!!

    Chantel2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Sweet, stylish, clean & great vibes! Curl up at the front window with a book! Enjoy the gorgeous views on the fabulous front deck! Waking up to the Ocean View was fab! Lots of thoughtful touches.. Blankets, jumpers & jackets. Can't beat that wood fire in the evening. Thanks for having us.. We will be back!

    Aidan2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • What a stunning place! Front balcony was perfect for a long lady dinner looking over the water. Perfect spot for a night near Port Arthur. We’ll set out, all the amenities you need. Thanks again!

    Rachel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Taranna is a lovely location, very convenient to anywhere you might want to go on the Tasman Peninsula, and has a pleasant small-scale feel. The shack is just across the road from the jetty and bay, nice for a stroll. The shack is very much as advertised and shown in photos, relaxing to hang out in, spacious, and sitting on the front deck in good weather is very pleasant.

    Helen2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Frankie’s place is a good base to explore the Tasman Peninsula. It is a funky design with a fabulous deck for relaxing with a drink.

    Libby2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing inspiring shack!! The decoration is awesome, Frankie is very nice! We had a great stay. Just if you are sensitive to noise like me, bring your earplugs as it's on the highway (there is not so many traffic though) :) We will come back!!

Sleep under the stars with heating! Hidden away in a secluded end of the gardens. The perfect spot for a uniquely memorable romantic get away. The Hideaway is a converted 20 foot shipping container and is Glamping at its best! Absolutely unique in Australia! Old Bishop's Quarters Hobart - See our other listings Housekeeper's Apartment, Tutor's Apartment & Old School House. Free wifi and parking. Walking distance to Salamanca.
Sleep under the stars! Hidden away in a secluded end of the gardens is the eclectic Monty's Hideaway. The perfect spot for a uniquely memorable romantic get away. There is simply nothing like it in Australia! Come with an adventurous spirit and you won't be disappointed. Monty's Hideaway is a luxurious 20ft shipping container - studio with a retractable roof over your bed. NO fly screen. NO glass. Just pure fresh Tasmanian AIR above your bed when the roof is OPEN. When the roof is CLOSED enjoy the underfloor heating and private space. The main room is cosy (as photographed). There is a spacious shower room with a lifting roof (open to the fresh air) so you can shower in the morning sun. And there is a wonderfully secluded deck with wood burner/chiminea and pleasant views towards the Derwent River. 6 star energy rating, underfloor heating, heated towel rail, Sonos hifi, wifi, TV, fridge, tea and coffee facilities, high quality linen and towels. There is NO kitchen. Monty's Hideaway is named after Field Marshall Montgomery, arguably Tasmania's most famous resident. He grew up in this place and was always in trouble, running away into the gardens for long periods.
The house is located on one of Hobart's most attractive tree-lined streets on the edge of Battery Point - just at the end of our street. The area is great for walking around, brimming with heritage buildings. Some of Hobart's top places to eat and drink are nearby within walking distance: JamJar, Pigeon Hole, Solo Pasta, Da Angelo's, Me Wah, The Duchess, Chillies, Jackman & McRoss Bakery. There is a good bottle shop (liquor store/off-licence) and high quality food/deli store within 200 metres.
  • A one of a kind experience!! Loved monty’s hideaway and the beautiful grounds it is situated on. Great quiet location about 20mins easy walk into city.

    Zoe2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying at the Hideaway! The space is though fully designed and presented with underfloor heating, a large rain shower head, and the open roof which was brilliant. The location is an easy walk to the city, Salamanca and Sandy Bay, making many good cafes within walking distance. The list of recommended places to try was also appreciated!

    Claire2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough good things about my stay at the Hideaway. I was blessed with amazing weather, so got to experience the stars at night and glorious blue sky in the morning. Everything was super clean and I really loved the shower too!! Would definitely stay again.

    Charis2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! If you've seen Netflix's Tiny House Nation and enjoyed it, this will be right up your street. With the added bonus of a large bathroom and rain shower. Would 100% stay again. The retractable roof is dreamy!

    Jocelyn2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Monty’s Hideaway was a great space for us (a couple) to stay for two nights. It was just as described and we loved the opening roof (unfortunately both nights were cloudy). We enjoyed sitting on the deck to relax after a hard day of sightseeing. The sleek and modern bathroom made mornings less of a chore!

    Alexa2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very groovy little space in a gorgeous neighbourhood.

    Shelley2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was one of my favourite Airbnb experiences ever! The removable ceiling was incredible and being able to watch stars from the bed was so unique and something that I will never forget. The container is has many beautiful touches. I highly recommend this accommodation and I would love to come back and stay again.

There are so many activities to do at the container & a beautiful walk that you can do on the property too. The homemade bread and fresh free range eggs were absolutely amazing. We will be back!

**AS FEATURED IN COUNTRY STYLE, REAL LIVING, HOME BEAUTIFUL, GOOD WEEKEND MAGAZINE, LIVING ETC UK, DESIGN SPONGE, CONDÈ NAST TRAVELLER, MILK DECORATION** Captains Rest is my haven of peace and serenity in a stunning secluded slice of the West Coast World Heritage Area.
Captains Rest is our special spot for 2. Our bed looks out the antique windows to the water — as does our restored clawfoot bath. She's cozy with everything we need to luxuriate, and the Nectre wood stove keeps us cozy. If you have instagram, you can follow both our guests and our personal stays at @captainsrest
We are all about soaking it up. Walk in the forest next to Captains Rest, swim in the water, fires on the beach and long nights reading in front of the fire. Watch the night stars reflect on the water, and listen on the bird songs upon awakening. Lettes Bay Historical village itself is a hive of wild west coast activity in summer, and almost abandoned in winter. We love both equally.
  • Amazing space! One night was not nearly enough, such a beautiful spot!

    Hollie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Even better in real life ....and I’ve drooled over many photos and magazine and books that show this extraordinary piece of the world. Nightly rainbows 🌈 for that added bit of nature’s magic. The personal touches and detailed notes make this place one of the best. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

    Jane2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful shack with us. It was very pleasant experience. The interior design and styling is very beautiful and very detailed and inspiring. It was great to learn Sarah life story from book lying around the house it made the experience deeper :) Cant wait to go back

    Monika2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Sarah's place is amazing. From the moment you step into the cottage, you know you are in for a real treat. The level of care and thought put into selecting each piece of furnishing is astounding. The cottage even smells good! We enjoyed having a stroll along the bay, feeding the ducks out front and chilling, gazing at the ever-changing weather outside through the large windows. The cottage even has it's own Spotify playlist to set the mood! Highly recommended!

    Herman2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage by the sea. Totally enjoyed just sitting and enjoying the peace and serenity of the view and location.

AERIE retreat. A private designer apartment in the bush by the water. Walk down to the private Wilderness Deck for exclusive use of the Timber Hot Tub, Sauna and fire pit. Access to the waterfront marine reserve is also exclusively available for our guests. A brilliant spot to stay summer or winter. Watch the winter full moon rise over the ocean from the hot tub and sauna.
AERIE private wilderness retreat is a bespoke designer apartment with all the quality and none of the nonsense. Enjoy the wood fired sauna, Sea Water Timber Hot Tub or just relaxing in front of the fire pit overlooking the ocean and Bruny Island. The experience staying at AERIE is all about relaxation, wilderness and water. Situated on the waterfront amongst the tree tops, AERIE overlooks Bruny Island, Storm Bay, D’Entrecasteaux Channel and the Iron Pot lighthouse at the mouth of the Derwent River. Down a path and around 50 steps is the wilderness deck, perched amongst the trees above the cove. Here you have a large purpose built timber deck, fire pit, sauna, and timber hot tub, all heated by fire, and all built for the best wilderness health and relaxation experience you can find. The hot tub is filled fresh with sea water for each guest and is pre lit and ready for you to use. The sauna can be fired up as you wish, it is pre set and ready to go. From the wilderness deck there are more steps down to the private little Pilot Cove and Tinderbox Marine Reserve, this is the only way other than by boat to reach this part of the reserve. A brilliant spot for a spot of morning yoga and some of the best snorkelling in Tasmania. Sea Eagles are a regular visitor that hunt in the marine reserve, so keep an eye and an ear out. The apartment was architect designed and purpose built. The interior, the furniture, the artwork was all hand crafted just for this one apartment. Solid timber and leather features with some funky but easy to live with lighting that makes this the most unique and relaxing place to stay. Parking is right outside the apartment the kitchen is self contained with a microwave, stove top, sink, fridge and dishwasher. In the bathroom, the bath, shower and toilet have one of the best views you can get. No TV or internet (although sadly your phone will work) just relax on the hand made leather couches, soak up the view, watch the boats and the birds go by. A few hundred meters up the road is a free public tennis court and Piersons Point lookout. A further two kilometers down the road is Tinderbox beach, vineyard, boat ramp and moorings with a small BBQ shelter. Don’t come here if you don’t want to walk up and down a few steps (quite a few!), cant light a fire and you don’t like spending some time relaxing. You can’t fish from this property as it’s in a Marine Reserve, Parties or other guests visiting you will need permission. We live on the property so if you have any questions or require assistance with the sauna or hot tub we can help you out. Our house is 100m away from the apartment and the wilderness deck so you have plenty of privacy, the entire wilderness deck, sauna, hot tub, and cove track are exclusively yours. People find this an ideal place to stay after the day at MONA, spend the evening in the tub and sauna before an early morning snorkel in the marine reserve. 30 minutes form Hobart, 10 minutes up the road is the Blackmans Bay “Hill Street Grocer” a brilliant spot to stock up for a few days. Also at the same Bayview Shopping Centre is a bottleshop baker, newsagent, sushi, hairdresser, pharmacy.
  • We loved our stay. Braye gave us our privacy but answered any messages promptly. The indoor space was super comfortable with some really good design ideas, but it's the outdoor deck with cedar hot tub, fire pit and sauna down amongst the gum trees overlooking the water where we spent most of our time. Just pick up some groceries at Hill Street Grocer at Blackmans Bay on the way from Hobart, settle in and enjoy the peace.

    Susan2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing house all you could have imagined and more. Thoroughly recommend it. Braye was a fantastic host

    Mark2020-02-29T00:00:00Z

    Hanna2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is paradise! A beautiful location, stunning views, with stylish architecture that respects the landscape. The sauna and hot tub were sublime. The steps down to the water front are a nice touch! Perfect hosts who have thought of everything to make your stay comfy and chilled. A very hard place to leave. We hope to come back again!

    Millie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A breathtaking sanctuary!! We enjoyed the amazing hot tub over a fabulous view. We had everything we needed. Definitely recommended and hope to come back in the future.

    Sophia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolutely wonderful place to stay. The views, the hot tub, the fire pit the facilities are all so amazing. We can't imagine a more tranquil place. We were very impressed by the steps to the seafront! Who would have even thought to build that? And we were thoroughly entertained by the wood chute. Such a great idea. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay.

ONLY 10min FROM HOBART CBD this CHARMING CABIN with LOG FIRE & DELUXE BATH/SHOWER is perched on one of the sunniest hillsides in South Hobart. Surrounded by nature and amazing views of South Hobart and Mount Wellington my home is a pleasure to share with you. Please read on for more info...
In the heart of South Hobart, my home is a warm and charming timber framed place with all modern amenities, including a FIREPLACE and TUB BATH to relax in. ***PLEASE NOTE:- As it is perched on a hill top, you do have to walk up a steep driveway then up a sloping front garden path (with railing) to get to house. The cabin is also on several different levels e.g. Stairs to bedroom loft & stairs down to bathroom (see photos for details.) If you have mobile challenges I would not suggest staying. However, if stairs don't bother you and you like the feeling of being in nature with only 5-10mins drive from CBD, views on every level and natural light THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS HOME.... FEATURES OF THE HOME:- *FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN with dishwasher, gas stove top/oven & quality utensils. *FREE WIFI *NETFLIX/SBS ON DEMAND *Fresh quality coffee/teas and pantry with basic cooking supplies *Top quality furnishings and linen with heart felt touches *Cathedral ceilings *Large windows allowing natural light to flood the home all year round *Exposed timber beams *Polished floor boards *FIREPLACE with wood supplied *NEW Deluxe DEEP BATH & RAIN DROP SHOWER HEAD *Heat pump/reverse cycle air conditioner *Smeg appliances/dish washer/micro wave/LG front loader *TV/DVD plus small but nice book & dvd selection *Electric Blanket The native backdrop of the house has abundant wildlife at your doorstep and faces bush land. Wallabies will greet you every morning & night if you sit quietly enough, coming right up to your feet. Soooo cute :) With all day sun the front of the house has a wrap around timber deck giving UNIQUE STUNNING VIEWS OF MOUNT WELLINGTON AND SOUTH HOBART creating a sense of being free, peaceful and private. My personal favorite is watching the birds fly past and seeing how the Mountain changes from sunrise to sunset.
The Neighborhood is charming and quiet. You are less than a 5 minute drive or 30 minute walk from the CBD yet you feel you are in a private mountain cabin retreat. There a couple of really nice restaurants walking distance and the famous Salad Bowl which is a mini supermarket with quality Tasmanian food and wine products. . .
  • Amazing place, really beautiful, clean and peaceful. The wildlife in the garden is stunning. You have little touch a love all around the house and that make all the difference.

    Ophélie2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • It is a warm and lovely 3-level hostel located in Hobart. There are supermarket and restaurants nearby so we don't need to worry for meals. The house is built alongside the hills so you would see a lot of wallabies at your backyard just as elle said. Elle has prepared a bowl of carrots for us to play with the wallabies which is fun. She has also prepared more than enough cooking utensils to let us enjoy cooking with fresh Tasmania food. There are also sweet notes to tell you how to ooerate the electrical appliances in the house. She has also dropped down trip advice and parking suggedtion in Hobart which helps us a lot. Nontheless there is also a stove for us to play with at night. It is a 10/10 hostel in Tasmania. I would definitely recommend other to visit!

    Wong2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place and saw much wildlife in the backyard. A great place for animal lovers to stay. Elle was a lovely host.

  • Elle’s place is the best in our Aus trip! Out Tassie journey started from being Welcomed by our fiendly neighbours- lovely wallabies! We can meet and feed them everyday in Elle’s Garden. Elle is very caring and we can see many details from what she prepared for us in the house, eg. welcoming note, carrots for wallabies, well equipped kitchen and bathroom... We definitely recommend you to stay here if you have chance to travel Tassie❤️

    David2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • It is a unique space, filled with a million thoughtful personal touches and a garden full of pademelons to come home to each evening.

    Tomás2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Elle’s place was excellent, from the super helpful notes/instructions around the house to the beautiful location from which to enjoy the views and visits of the pademelons. We had a pleasant and comfortable stay, making use of the nearby Hobart Rivulet trail to walk to the CBD or Cascade Brewery.

  • It was wonderful to have the chance to stay here. The location was perfect for us to relax, enjoy the beautiful views and wildlife. The home is a very short distance from the city and makes all of the surrounding areas of interest very accessible, including food shopping. The home was a delight, we loved the quirky nature of the home and the description of the steps is very much appropriate. All the basics were there to allow us to enjoy our holiday with ease. The home is so comfortable, spotlessly clean and was fun to stay in. The large windows made watching Mt Wellington and surrounding landscape at sunset a great added bonus. Booking and checking in could not have been easier! Everything was quick and straight forward. Checking out was also lovely and simple. Thank you Elle for sharing your beautiful home with us, and thank you for the carrots!! 😉

A private, romantic cottage on Full Gallop Farm. The QS bed is set before huge windows perfect for watching animals and the sunrise. Meet friendly horses, ducks, dogs and many other animals. Or sit before a cosy wood fire with candles flickering. Perfect for honeymoons, romantic breaks, or to reconnect with nature and each other. Why not try horse riding or a Relationship Development session with our therapy horses? Check out F B full gallop farm stay IG @fullgallopfarm
The Hide is a huge, comfortably appointed, sun drenched building completely separate from the main farm house. The room has a romantic, cozy ambiance, created by the use of rich red velvet soft furnishings, a comfortable Italian leather settee and an abundance of candles. There is a wood burner for the winter and expansive windows which overlook magnificent views of the fields and the surrounding area, right from the comfort of your bed. We can organise an equine development session for you, or arrange a professional massage therapist to visit you for a relaxing massge in your room. The farm is peaceful and restorative and abounds with native wildlife. We grows organic blueberries and we are home to our own equine assisted psychotherapy horses. We provide a breakfast basket on arrival, with bread for toast, fruit toast, fruit in season, homemade marmalade and jam, cornflakes, fruit cakes, lollies and milk and tea and coffee. If you want a refill for the rest of your stay, just ask. Wifi is available but can be temperamental. Good at times and not so good at other times. We are on the NBN, so if it is patchy inside The Hide you are always welcome to come into the house where it is much more reliable. Your mobile will not work well at the farm ... part of being in the country! If your preferred dates are not available please ask as we have other lovely spaces available: Copy and paste: https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/2234437?preview_for_ml https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/9078609?preview_for_ml
Allens Rivulet has a reputation for it's magic. It is restorative to both humans and animals. Many rescued horses placed in this vicinity regain health so quickly as do their owners. It is a beautiful, verdant valley within striking distance of Hobart. Ten minutes to the beaches, fifteen to Hobart and fifteen to Huonville we are surrounded by choice. Another good choice is to sit and look out of the windows at the world at it's best and just restore your energy and rejuvenate.
  • Lesley was such a wonderful host and the property was amazing! Even with the rain the room was very comfortable and cozy (heated blanket and fireplace!) and I had a great stay! I highly recommend staying here!

    Stesha2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended in many areas. A warm attentive host. A dream place if you love the peace, nature and animals. The wallabies literally come to your window. Very good price / quality. Cozy cottage with an incredible view even from your bed. Holiday with an incredible home feeling ideal for relaxing and recharging the batteries.

  • Most enjoyable stay. Worked well as a base for our sightseeing as close to Hobart so we’re able to have the peace and quiet of the farm with all the animals around which we enjoyed. Lesley look after us very well plus nothing was a problem to her and was a pleasure to meet her. Thanks again Lesley. Deirdre & Jim.

  • This place is amazing for a retreat in the nature (but still close enough to the city if needed), especially if you are an animal lover. Lesley is super friendly and helpful for everything necessary. Highly recommended!

    Soner2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Lesley’s place was awesome! If I would have known we would have loved it so much we would have stayed another night or two!! I’d definitely stay again if I returned to the Hobart area. It’s exactly as described on her listing. Our favorites were the views, the friendly mini-horse and the wood burning fire!

  • Sheepwash Bay is a secluded gem of a place that makes you want to give up city life and hitch a shack on paddock somewhere. The experience John and jenene have designed is so authentic and special. With little touches like fresh bread in the morning, access to their veggie garden and eggs to morning hugs from their dog Mikey. The shack is beautifully designed, very clean, warm and well equipped. This is the perfect off the grid weekend away, could not recommend more.

The property is located on the acclaimed Tamar Valley wine route, believed to be the oldest wine region in Tasmania. Tasmania's cool climate wines are renowned worldwide and there are around 30 wineries within driving distance of Rosevears. Cellar door tastings which are popular with the tourists are known to be a specialty of the valley. The historic cottage which began life as the Rosevears Post Office (circa 1900's precise build date is unknown), is located directly opposite the river on a level plateau to the front of the property. The neighbour to one side is the historic Rosevears Tavern (a genuine landmark in the area) and diagonally opposite is the popular Rosevears Pontoon. Rosevears is an idyllic country suburb, easily accessible from Launceston CBD via a scenic drive. Rosevears is situated along the picturesque Rosevears Drive, a meandering 8km stretch of road which follows the waterside of the Tamar River. The drive between Launceston and Rosevears is a scenic pleasure.
  • Great little studio cottage perfect for a couple (or sisters, as was our case) or small family! Great location with easy access to Launceston and the Tamar Valley. Would definitely stay again!

  • My partner and I had such a lovely, cosy stay here! The views were beautiful, it was conveniently located (we loved having the Rosevears Hotel next door for dinner - and yet, no noticeable noise!) - and easy to visit many local attractions. The cottage provided everything we needed, felt welcoming, and was great value. Also enjoyed visits from neighbouring friendly chickens. Thanks Bec and Tom!

#thebarnTAS is our multi award winning barn conversion. It is located in Hobart's CBD just mere minutes from the city's major cultural and gastronomic attractions including the historic precincts of Salamanca + Battery Point. For 1 night bookings please contact us directly.
Recently renovated by us (two young Architects), our late 1820's sandstone Barn is a truly unique accommodation experience. Our award winning conversion, incorporates light and a refined material palette to accentuate the historic building fabric. Our Barn is located in Hobart's CBD just mere minutes from city's major cultural and gastronomic attractions including the historic precincts of Salamanca + Battery Point. Wake up to city views, relax over a latte at Betsy, pick up a picnic lunch from Pigeon Hole Bakers and cap it all off with a perfectly plated dinner at Aloft! As designers our approach to the Barn has always been to keep as much of the (incredibly beautiful and richly textured) existing building fabric as possible. The original sandstone walls are exposed both internally and externally. The timber shingled roof and existing beams contrast with the new kitchen and bathroom insertion. The Barn is light and open, yet simultaneously cosy.
  • What a ideal experience. Inspiring and so considered. We will be back. Thank you!!

  • We had a great stay at Liz and Alex’s. It was beautifully designed. We loved the large glass door that could pivot on its hinges out onto the courtyard. Whilst its in the heart of Hobart it felt like we were miles away from town. It has the benefits of convenience paired with being quiet and tranquil. Only thing I’d say is just the lighting at night isn’t that bright for cooking. Perfect for a couple’s getaway! 👌

  • What a lovely place to escape everyday life and experience a farm stay! We were surprised by how much space we had in the cottage and it was very comfortable to relax in after a big day of canyoning at Cradle Mountain. We enjoyed meeting the animals and walking around the beautiful property and we were very grateful for the breakfast provisions including eggs and delicious orange juice and mustn't forget to mention the port! So good!

"Self-isolate" in comfort at this quiet beach. For 14-day isolation please request a special rate. No host contact is required. Go to sleep to the whispering of the waves. Take a dozen steps on the boardwalk from the lounge and you are on the sand. Stay one night or many weeks. Fish, swim, kayak, snorkel, in full view of the cottage. Gather an armful of driftwood and make a fire in the fire pit on the edge of the beach. In these challenging times you can still be in a lovely place.
The cottage was once a beach "shack" that has just been totally renovated, and is quite delightful. It is on the beach, facing north, looking out across the strait towards Victoria on the Australian mainland. It captures all the sun, and is warm winter and summer. The reverse cycle air conditioner/heater deals with the rest. It is light and airy, and we rarely have flies, and no mosquitoes. Doors and windows stay open often day and night. It is close to the street on a "no thru" road, with a covered car port at the front door. There is level access into the cottage, and just one step inside. Whilst not perfect for the disabled, its very good for someone with some mobility issues. Please talk to us about what you need and whether we meet your requirements. Families are very welcome, understanding that children must be supervised at all times. The main bedroom has a queen size bed and a superb view of the surf to the horizon - from bed. In the main bedroom there is a walk in closet and shelving, dressing table/desk and chair, crisp white linen, plenty of pillows, spare blankets, electric blanket, bed lamps, ceiling fan. The second bedroom has a single bed and single trundle bed which will lift up on legs to normal height (or be used at the lower level which seems to work well for small children). If one person is using the room the second bed is out of the way concealed beneath the other bed. There is a large 3 door wardrobe with lots of shelves, bedside table and lamp, fan, full length mirror etc. The bathroom has a generous shower, vanity and toilet, lots of towels, hair drier, tissues, toilet paper. The laundry alcove has a trough and automatic washing machine, iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner, brooms, and there is a clothes line outside. The stunning new kitchen provides dishwasher, microwave, generous fridge/freezer, under bench oven and ceramic hot plates, with all the equipment you could possibly want if cooking appeals. We have a selection of herbs and serving dishes to make it easy. The kitchen has a large sliding window to a server bench and BBQ. The dining area seats 6 for dining with "The View". The open plan lounge area has a comfortable double sofa bed with innerspring mattress, large TV, recliner chair etc. The sofa bed area is not private of course since the living space forms an open "L" shape. We have provided every comfort we can think of to make your stay enjoyable. The cottage is stunning for two, three, or four adults, perfect for a family with children, and definitely full for six (but fun!) There is a USB charger on one of the power outlets. There is wireless internet access, not fast, but ok. Mobile phone coverage is good. There is a herb garden (help yourself); and a nectarine tree, in season of course. On calm nights you can gather driftwood and light a fire in the outdoor fire pit beside the sand, whilst watching the sun set over the sea. The outdoors are very large, seriously close and stunningly beautiful. The rear deck has outdoor seating and in the late afternoon it is just lovely to sit there with a glass of bubbly, coffee or whatever takes your fancy. As it becomes darker, the solar lights flicker on in the boardwalk lighting your way to the sand.
We are in a small enclave of old waterside "shacks" on the edge of the bay at Blythe Heads, the mouth of the Blythe River. Our beach shack has been "rebirthed" and is rather special. The street is old, but the neighbours are nice. For us the extremely rare, unique and intimate connection with the beach, and convenience of the nearby highway outweigh the older buildings of our street, but for some of our guests we have been downgraded to a 3 because of this. We don't want anyone to be disappointed, so please consider if this is important to you. We are only 50 m from the main Blythe Heads roundabout, the area is called Heybridge, 6km from Burnie. (Google maps street view is 15 years old and most misleading). We are very easy to find, and easy as a base to access various Northern Tasmanian attractions. Historic Stanley, Cradle Mountain, Sheffield, Chocolate Factory, Raspberry Farm, Angove Cheese, The Hellyers Road Whisky Distillery, The Purple House at Forth, Penguin shopping, Ulverstone shopping and restaurants, Devonport Spirit of Tasmania (30 minutes) and many more are within easy visiting from here. The smart shopping enclave at Wivenhoe (4km) has cafes (yummy vanilla slice at the bakery) , restaurants, butcher, supermarket, ATM, deli, etc.
  • Ross and Janice's place is very close to Burnie, so convenient for shops or eating out. The view is great and the home is spacious and very clean. Would definitely stay again.

  • A stunning spot, and a stunning space. Immaculate and comfortable. We loved our stay and recommend this great little location and cottage to anyone.

    Karin2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little place by the sea that my partner and I stayed at for one night. Ross was a lovely host, coming and helping us get the fire started after our long day of driving. Highlights were the hanging lounge in the backyard, which we could have both sat in forever (it was so comfy!), and the fire pit which was so nice to sit by in the evening. It was great to have all the amenities too, as we could cook and do laundry very easily. Would recommend!

  • Ross and Janice's place is absolutely gorgious. The cottage is really comfortable and clean and all needed is available. The close access to the beach is so nice. We came with two children of 7 and 8 and for us it was the ideal spot. The kids enjoyed climbing on the rocks and playing on the beach and all of us had a wonderful and relaxing time.

  • Staying here is like staying at your own place. Frederic is keen to make your stay confortable in permanently wondering if you got all what you need. We had a very nice diner that was prepared by himself (he is a former restaurant owner) very well cooked with fresh local products and accompanied with a glass of very good Tasmania wine. The property is conveniently located a drive away from Cradle Mountain (other nice spots closer if you don't want to drive there). So in conclusion if you are looking for a place to feel home in a stunning environment with a very nice host this place is for you. But watch out reservation ahead is required!

  • This place is one of the genuine finds of Air BnB and I can’t recommend it enough! The property is located not far from Cradle Mountain and is stunningly beautiful in its own right. There are farm animals as well as some local natives that come down to say hello. Dom was friendly and professional, greeting us on arrival and showing us around. We also took Dom up on his offer of cooking and it was one of the best meals I’ve eaten in my life.

    Patrick2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location with outstanding view of Mt Roland and lots of native wildlife!

    Simon2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the deck is absolutely spectacular. You get to look at Mt. Roland in all its glory - changing constantly throughout the day. The dining table is set up so that you even get to watch the mountain while enjoying your meals. Eclectically decorated, the house was very clean, with good quality sheets and towels. Very comfortable bed. The king bed faces the mountain. Amazing to wake up to that view. Nice to have a BBQ. Communications were excellent. It is a country property, so there is a bit of drive to town and local attractions. However, we loved having the privacy and felt like we had it all to ourselves. Lots of local wildlife to enjoy and of course the 2 horses and 3 sheep. Highly recommend.

    James2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Nothing but great things to say about this AirBnB! A quirky colourful space with huge comfortable beds, the best views in town and plenty of wildlife added in for free. Do yourself a favour and request Dom to cook you dinner - not only do you not have to leave the property, but sharing a memorable meal while drinking in the spectacular views of Mount Roland will ensure a stay you wont forget.

Our comfortable modern industrial style apartment is situated in our private oasis of a garden. With a queen bed, quality linen, fast unlimited wifi and Netflix. We have a few gorgeous chickens, a Springer spaniel pup and red kelpie dog. Located 15min walk to CBD, and 5min to shops and other necessities. Safe on-street parking directly out the front.
The studio space comfortably suits a couple. A kitchenette and fridge for the late night snack or a 3 course meal. The apartment is very private on its own floor with newly renovated bathroom. Our home is on the next level, so occasionally you may hear footsteps from above, as you might see from our reviews this is very rarely an issue, however we want to be transparent about the space. The accomodation is very safe and private with gated entry.
We live opposite Invermay Oval, a stones throw from UTAS Stadium, a short walk to Heritage Park and the North Esk river. We don't have any direct neighbours, so although an active area the accomodation is private and quiet. That being said, occasionally it can be a little active when the oval is being used across the road. Deli, grocery, laundromat restaurants and shops are a 5 min walk away.
  • Anthony and Leeroy's space is lovely. So stylish and cozy. A basement unit that still feels airy and bright! The fresh bread was a lovely tough, as were the eggs. The garden was beautiful and I wish we had more time to enjoy it. As a basement unit it did have a bit of noise from movement upstairs but it didn't affect our stay. Thanks so much Anthony and Leeroy! Would definitely stay again!

A highlight was that our little dog had a secure yard to play in and loved the company of Bam and August the two resident dogs. Check in was smooth and we had everything we needed. Sunhouse is an unexpected gem on the Tasman Peninsula, located just 15 minutes from Port Arthur. Nestled between the trees and the ocean but near town, a place to enjoy the simple pleasures of life and nature. Meandering days can be spent wandering the coves and beaches, playing cards, drinking cups of tea or simply soaking up the sun with a good book. Come evening, pick produce from the garden and sip a wine in front of the fire. A place to slow down and enjoy what Tasmania has to offer.
Restored with love and creativity, filled with vintage finds and surrounded by a rambling cottage garden, the space is one that has had many hours of care put into it. Please note that this is a small cottage and not a luxury hotel! We use this space to get back to nature (although there is a very small TV available if desired). A 70’s cottage that has been furnished with the collected and considered, from the handcrafted timber kitchen to the tiniest curated details. Enjoy a soak in the bath or sleep in and appreciate the linen bedding. Although equipped with modern comforts, it is rustic, raw and authentic. The way Tasmania was meant to be enjoyed. Sunhouse has a wood fire, a full kitchen and on site parking. Equally designed for enjoying in solitude or to be shared with love, we have two queen beds and a set of bunks so can accommodate six. Coffee, tea and basic provisions are provided however there are two IGA grocers nearby and one of the most amazing coffee spots a short drive away.
Sunhouse is located on the edge of the small fishing town, Nubeena, nestled in the coves of the Tasman Peninsula. While supplies are available in town, it is also a beautiful drive around the Peninsula to Port Arthur (15 minutes) and Eaglehawk Neck (20 minutes). Make no mistake, there is no need to travel to find beauty (or surf) - the Peninsula is a treasure trove of hidden beaches, silent forests and untouched beauty.
  • We loved our night at the Sunhouse- would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay down at the Peninsula! Lovely touches, well-equipped kitchen and LOVED the outdoor bath. Will be back for sure!

    Anna2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay to get a way from the world for a bit! We were 2 teenage girls who just finished the overland track and caught the only bus to nubeena from Hobart (there is one a day). We got around quite easily by hitchhiking with some lovely travellers (we did the cape Raoul walking track with a lovely couple who picked us up and they even dropped us back right outside the front door of sunhouse). Very beautifully curated interior and loved having a bath under the stars. There is even fruit and herbs to pick from garden! Can’t recommend enough!!

The Gregan Retreat's located on a vineyard and sheep farm called Lisdillon Estate. The house comfortably fits two and overlooks the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet which flows down to Lisdillon's private beach, only a five minute stroll away. Included is the option of a free tasting of our internationally award winning wine.
The house has a large balcony to relax and enjoy the view of the vineyard and Lisdillon Rivulet. It has a fireplace to keep you toasty warm through those winter nights (however as we don't tend to do as many firewood runs in summer there is a chance there will be no firewood in that season). We offer a relaxed stay on a farm. We have a private beach which is so untouched that many rare birds nest there. We also have a private river which is brimming with a variety of fish if you enjoy fishing (strictly catch and release). Bring your kayaks and float down the rivulet to the beach. If you have a boat you can take it out to the sea and fish in front of our property (a list of species you can catch is available below). The house comfortably fits two people. It has a kitchen/living room, bathroom and separate bedroom with queensized bed. The property is situated 21 kilometres outside of the nearest town of Swansea, and an hour and a half from Hobart. Swansea and its surroundings have some well-known gourmet restaurants, the closest of which, Piermont, is only a ten minute drive away if guests wish to indulge themselves. It is a fifty minute drive to Coles Bay, and the world famous Freycinet National Park. Several vineyards set amidst the stunning scenery of the east coast of Tasmania, are within easy driving distance. Taste the high quality wine of Milton and Springvale at their cellar doors. Perfect for a relaxed weekend away - try some of Lisdillon's delicious, internationally award winning pinot noir or sauvignon blanc! For the fishermen guests, the sea out the front of our property offers: - bay flathead - king flathead - cod - trumpeter - trevally - salmon - perch - squid - crayfish The Lisdillon Rivulet has: - bream - oysters - trevally mullet - Australian salmon - brown trout - native galaxia -occasionally flathead - eels - grayling, aka cucumber herring
Lisdillon is a 6000 acre working sheep farm and vineyard. Its title includes three white, sandy beaches to low water mark, as well as the reef off the main beach. It also includes a rivulet with swimming/fishing holes, an estuary perfect for fishing and amazing views of The Hazzards and Freycinet National Park, and of Maria Island. Lisdillon itself is described by many of our guests as being perhaps the most beautiful place they have seen on their visit to Australia. With all this space, Lisdillon is the perfect place to go walking, swimming or fishing. Bring your kayaks and explore the river and coastline or bring your boat and launch it from the beach or from the MaST recommended boat ramp five minutes away. Perhaps you would prefer to just relax in the sun on the large deck, or in the comfortable lounge room in front of the fire, and read the books or play the games that are provided - and perhaps enjoy a glass of Lisdillon's own award winning wine. Or if you enjoy cooking, make the most of the well equipped kitchen! We are within easy driving distance of Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park to the North and Maria Island to the south, making us the perfect base as you explore the world famous scenic areas of Tasmania's East Coast. Or you may prefer to visit the local wine cellars and taste some of our world class Tasmanian wines and dine in some of the beautiful restaurants set among the vines. Enjoy a meal in one of the local cafes or restaurants in Swansea, Triabunna or Orford - all within half an hour's drive. Piermont, with its award winning restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and is only a ten minute drive. You might like to participate in some of the many activities available locally, including whale watching, bike riding or quad bike touring. With so much to do - and so much beauty to admire while just relaxing, Lisdillon is the perfect place for your holiday.
  • The Gregan Retreat was the perfect weekend away for two new Tasmanians. Location is brilliant only 1.5hrs north of Hobart, 20mins for Swansea (for the all important coffee) and about 1hr 15mins to the start of the Winglass Bay walk. The cottage was clean, very comfy, kitchen for cooking and a beautiful veranda to sit and read while looking over the river and grape vines. A short walk to a white sand beach (with some pretty decent surf while we were there). Katherine and her mother Jane were brilliant with communication, and while we kept to ourselves, the offers of wine tasting and local knowledge is a really nice touch. I would have no trouble recommending this little cottage as your east coast launch pad.

  • Staying at Lisdillon was a great experience! The cottage is cozy and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Definitely try the Pinot Noir - the best I’ve had in Tassie so far!!

    Johnese2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute cottage on a cute little farm. You are quite removed from everything which is what we were looking for. There is no WiFi but we had fine cell reception. Plus we were looking to disconnect a bit anyhow so this place was everything we wanted. Katherine was gone but her mother was around to facilitate anything we needed; the two of them were both super fast to respond to anything we asked about. I would definitely stay here again!

    Tommy2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful, serene place to explore. The beach was gorgeous at sunrise. The small cottage gave us a peaceful environment to enjoy each other’s company.

    Michelle2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful stay in a truly unique location. A great spot for cutting off from the world and kicking back. Good base for trips out but retreating back for a glass of wine on the veranda. Perfect!

    Lucy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing gorgeous oasis of calm. Luckily we were able to arrive in the light, as it was a bit tricky to locate,....but once installed, we were so delighted to call the Gregan Retreat our home. Tim put some logs in the wood burner, we had a bottle of Bundeburg Australian rum and two hot scallop pies from the local bakery and sat on the porch, watching a full moon rise over the distant hills and listening to the night sounds. The electric blanket made our cosy bedroom even more idyllic. The shower, towels, kitchen supplies made for a wonderful stay. A morning stroll down to the waves was delightful. Thank you for sharing your little plot of heaven,

  • It was more than beautiful, more than amazing! Too good to be true!! :) We had an amazing stay at Glenys place and everything was thoughtful and generous! The view was wondeful which we all fell in love :) I would recommend everyone to stay here!

    Ej2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and clean place. Gorgeous views. Prompt and attentive host. Wonderful stay! We chose this place for its location and the stylish space, but our expectations were definitely exceeded! The view is amazing, the photos don't do it justice. The bathroom feels like a spa, and the bed is incredibly comfortable with great linens. The little kitchenette has everything you could possibly need.

    Ivan2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my girlfriend loved every minute of our stay. Glenys has thought of every little detail both in and outside of the house. The views from bed, shower and living room were spectacular and we loved being able to sit inside and watch the surfers all day. Do not think twice about booking your stay here, you definitely won’t regret it! Luke and Lish

  • A WOW factor is definitely deserving of this amazingly gorgeous seaside home away from home. A very tastefully decorated home of quirkiness in every nook .. the beds and linen were 5 star. Just sooo comfy. A Very generous well stocked kitchen. If you want to relax and unwind look no further as all you want to do is sit and stare at the amazing views. Glenys was great with communication. We are definitely returning back to this special place .. just awesome.

    Gina2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a special home. As soon as you walk in the door you feel relaxed and happy. The owners have gone above and beyond to create a beautiful, comfortable and unique space. You will want for nothing, lots of little details have been thoughtfully catered for. A real gem. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and didnt want to leave. There was plenty of things to occupy ourselves; books, games, movies/netfix etc , sport equipment and surf gear for adults and children. The views of the ocean are amazing. The ocean sea breeze is so refreshing. The beds were next level of snuggly, warm comfort..like a fluffy cloud. We were grateful to have such a wonderful haven to stay on our trip in Tasmania

    Michelle2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re contemplating booking this accommodation, look no further. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and a wonderful base if you’re doing anything in Hobart, Port Arthur or surrounding areas. The house is just as you’d imagine it and Glenys was great at communicating all the details you’d need to navigate the towns nearby, pickup supplies and check in with ease. Waking up to the sunset in bed and 180 degree ocean views from every room was beyond amazing. Watching the sunset, people surfing and wallaby’s hop past the back fence whilst enjoying a fire with wine and cheese is an experience we will never ever forgot. This home has a lot of love in it, expressed in every detail. We cannot wait to come back again...and again...and again. You can’t go past this place! And if you’re lucky you will get a visit from Dobby the adorable cat from next door.

  • This is the vantage house down in the hill nearby Mt. Wellington. Have to say, the view from the house is spectacular, we catch a glimpse of Hobart, which is fantastic. When we checked in, Mark told us the brief of the house style and showed us around. It was a charming experience and gave our road trip a friendly pried in Tassie.

  • A great mountain retreat surrounded by ferns and some signs of wildlife, with a comfortable shared living space and a cosy room. Great facilities and inclusions. The parking space can be a bit tight and the local wildlife may nibble on any plants you leave near your vehicle, but it is a beautiful space for contemplation and reflection!
