We had a wonderful experience at Toad Tree Cottage, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for relaxing, tranquil getaway. The beautiful cottage is complemented by the lush, green landscape and makes you feel far away from the city! Definitely will come back!

What an incredible place! My boyfriend and I loved sleeping in the Indian room upstairs. The walls are beautifully hand painted, and there is a gorgeous period bath tub overlooking tree branches. Bruce did an incredible job with this place - his attention to detail is outstanding. Not the most modern fixtures maybe - but who cares. Perhaps it'd take away from the charm.

A lovely getaway from the city with old world charm, yet very convenient to Mtunzini. Will definitely be back.

Very cosy house.

Very nice place in the middle of somewhere. Very kind host and a good place to refuel. I can recommend this place for anyone on a road trip from Durban to somewhere north.

The Toad Tree Cottage is a fantastic place. We were supposed to stay 2 nights and we finally spent 4 nights. The house is huge, well equiped, and beautifull. The pictures are totally conform to the reality. The colonial charm of the house is amazing. We visited South Africa during 4 weeks and our stay at the Cottage was our best experience. It's been an absolute pleasure staying here. We had a very peaceful nights stay, place was clean and homely, great shower and great coffee. The sparkling blue pool is the perfect cooldown before the road home. Will definitely see you again soon.

L'appartement, attenant à leur maison, était une belle surprise (grande chambre, SDB, salon avec TV5 monde, wifi, cuisine avec MO, frigo, patio avec une entrée séparée. le quartier est résidentiel, calme et sécurisé, proche d'un centre commercial, boulangerie et restaurants. C'était un réel plaisir de partager quelques moments avec Ian et Pam qui sont très serviables, disponibles. Adresse à recommander fortement, car pour visiter les environs, Empangeni s'avère une excellente alternative à Ste Lucia, touristique et chère.

Das Flatlet ist wunderbar, genauso wie die beiden Gastgeber Ian und Pam. Das Schlafzimmer ist separat und vom Wohnbereich getrennt. Alles sehr sauber, sehr gemütlich und wie beschrieben. Es ist sehr schwer, sich dort nicht wohlzufühlen. Ich habe meine Zeit in Empangeni mit Ian und Pam sehr genossen und werde wieder kommen! Es ist nur zu empfehlen :-)

Great place to stay. Thinus met us on arrival and was very accommodating with our queries and requests. The house is well equipped and there was tea, coffee, sugar, milk, salt and pepper, toilet paper and cleaning products (soap, washing up liquid etc) in the house on arrival which was really great. All the beds were very comfortable and firm and every room had aircon that worked well. There was also DSTV with a good bundle and Wifi. We stayed for 4 days and Thinus and his mom arranged a cleaner to come in 2 of the days and do a clean and tidy up which was lovely.

Could be a nice place but needs to be repaired, restored and maintained. The garden, swimming pool and exteriors were not practicable. However Thinus has been a really kind host accepting our late arrival and in the end we had a pleasant stay as it was only one night in transit on our way to the drakensberg

The place is amazing. However, I was very disappointed in Andy (the host, in Tanis's absence). I really found him rude on the phone the day before we arrived. we requested if they could help us with some bedding to make the two single beds be like a double/queen bed since we were two couples. Although Tanis had indicated (2 weeks before trip) that they would make a plan, Andy called just a day before we got there to say they can't. I thought they should have told us at least a couple of days earlier as at that time it would be difficult for us to get a solution since we were already in KZN in a place we're not familiar with. However, we managed to get the local shops and bought our own comforter to use. So, that was really not an issue if communicated properly. The issue was the rudeness. We knew what they said they provide. and we booked knowing, but the manner in which Andy spoke to me the day before was really disappointing. Besides all my polite communication (written & verbally), he mentioned that I was very offensive and he was also raising a voice to me. it started feeling like he was just pushing me to cancel (& then face the frustration of now having to start looking for accommodation again just a day before I get there) instead of assisting to come up with a solution. otherwise lovely place. iron available, games available, tv, microwave, fridge, etc.... What you see online is what you get.

Amazing stay - book at once!!!! We stayed at Raphia on Sea for 6 weeks whilst working at a local hospital. I could not have asked for a better place to stay or for better hosts. The apartment is super clean and comfortable and comes with everything that you could possibly need and is set in a beautiful, quiet and safe neighbourhood. If you are staying during the week there is also a daily cleaner who keeps the apartment spotless and also does your washing and ironing (one could get very used to that!!). The pool is a great spot for chilling out after a long, hot day and there are 5 Braais around the place for the obligatory outdoor meat eating. The house also has 2 dogs who are super-friendly and come out to greet you whenever you get home - I was missing my puppy so this was great! I would definitely recommend standing on the deck at sunset and taking in the amazing views! By far the best aspect of the stay for me was Andy, the amazing host that lives upstairs, and we became friends over the course of our stay. He was most welcoming when I arrived and had even bought in supplies to get me going before I could go shopping. During the stay we would often arrive home tired from work to hear the shout "Howzit? Cold beers on the deck?" which was always just what we needed. Andy has a wealth of local (and not so local) knowledge and was quick to advise on the best places to go, where to stay, how to get there and what to do! His advice never failed and it most definitely made the trip even more memorable! He was also very quick to make sure that we had whatever we needed for our trips away and lent us coolers, binoculars, extra blankets etc when we headed out on safari etc. One of us was travelling around South Africa and Mozambique after our Zini adventures and Andy sat down and advised the best possible itinerary and spots to stay - I am sure that she will be thanking him at the end of her trip! Apparently the DSTV stopped working whilst we were there but it had been replaced before we had even noticed!! I have since recommended the apartment to 3 other people and I do hope they do the sensible thing and book straight away!! All in all, an amazing place to stay in a beautiful part of the world with great hosts - what more do you want?? Thank you for everything Tanis and Andy, I will be back next year during our honeymoon trip!! Liam

Lovely apartment in a lovely spot on the northern coast. The apartment is well equipped for a long stay. Big rooms, fully equipped kitchen, big yard with nice trampoline and pool. The town is lovely - small and safe, has a beautiful coastline And a lovely center (try fat cat restaurant)

The accommodation is perfectly located for daytrips to Hluhluwe park and the Wetland park. Large rooms, spotless clean, safe complex. The owners are friendly and really helpful. We enjoyed staying here.

We were delighted with everything at Aloe House. Rusty and Di welcomed us warmly and were happy to book activities for us in the area. The cottage is ideally situated to see game reserves and enjoy the beach and St. Lucia wetlands within a short drive. The swimming pool was lovely to cool off in the evenings after a long hot day. The cottage borders on the Kwambo golf course which is great for golfers but we so enjoyed for walking in the early evening. The unit is airconditioned which is so nice in the summer. This will be our first choice of accommodation whenever we're visiting this area.

We stayed for 2 night's at Rusty's place and it was simply amazing. He and his wife welcomed us and were super friendly. The house was large, nice airconditioning, very clean and fully equipped. I couldn't have wished for a better Airbnb.

What a great experience we had at this place. Wonderful place in a safe and quiet town (Kwambonambi). You will have everything you need. Supermarket and ATM at walking distance, Richards Bay with lots of shops and restaurant at 20 min by car, Game reserves at 40 min by car, beach at 20 min by car. Wonderful place and beautiful people around...really. The house is big and very clean more you will have a great outdoor space with pool to swim and with braai facilities. Rusty and Tah are great host, they came to take us from the airport and they helped us in everything we need (included basic information on Game Reserves to visit and Kurger national park). Really we wouuld have not expected nothing more that this. It is like to leave home to reach home and this is thanks to Rusty ad Tah and theit incredible family. Thanks for everything.

We had a great stay at Cheryl's place. Very clean, quite and relaxing with amazing view of the ocean. Cheryl and her husband were very kind to us and let us enjoy their stunning pool and offered us more than what we expected.

What a wonderful stay- breathtaking views and a pool to cool off in during the hotter months. The hosts are very gracious and are around if you need help but otherwise let you do your thing. Amenities (WIFI, aircon etc) are excellent. The bedroom is spacious and the bathroom was clean. Perfect for a stop over or a weekend, especially for nature lovers. Highly recommended!

@93 is an absolute gem. The apartment was exactly as advertised, very spacious and well thought out. The shower was definitely one of the best I've ever had. Cheryl and Rodger we very welcoming and gave the best recommendations on hiking trails and restaurants. I will say it was also the best value for money and far exceeded our expectation.

A great place to stay!

Roger and Cheryl were very accommodating and friendly hosts, respected my privacy and were available for all queries. The flat was comfortable, light and airy and very clean. Great shower !! Kitchenette is not suitable for cooking meals but was more than adequate for my needs with the Fat Cat restaurant down the road, one does not need to cook. Great outdoor mountain bike trails and hikes, would have liked to have stayed longer and will definitely use it again.
