  • Thank you so much Alma, we loved your place! Cute, comfortable space, in an amazing area.

  • Adorable little place in a very central location. Located in Montclair (very cute little town) and close to SF, Berkeley, and Oakland. It’s definitely on the small side, but it’s perfect for a couple (or solo traveler). Alma is very sweet and added special touches such as wine glasses, nice soaps, the essentials. Check-in is super easy and everything went very smooth. We were right next to the Redwoods which was a great hike! My boyfriend and I very much enjoyed our stay and will likely be back if we’re ever in the area!

  • Alma it’s a lovely host in person, and her place is located in the beautiful hilly area in Oakland. Her place is clean, well-run and practical, and chk-in/out was handled well and very accommodating. If you’re looking for good, clean, modest and comfortable place near Oakland, I would highly recommend staying with Alma!

  • Take time to drive along Skyline and/or through the woods and enjoy the views.

  • We loved staying at Alma's place so much! Beautiful location near some great hiking trails, also not far from San Francisco. Very clean and nice private space, the room is very modern. Alma was very helpful and responded quickly.

  • We loved staying in the little shack on the hill! A bit draining to have the bathroom so far away, especially in the middle of the night, but it was worth it to have our own space. Lovely house and kind people.

  • Kevin’s home is peaceful and a great value. The space is clean and comfortable and everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and simple. Kevin himself is a gem and I feel blessed to have met him and deeply appreciate his home.

    Amy2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a month with my girlfriend. The place is quiet you hear nothing of the city just squirrels and the creaking of the eucalyptus trees. It was a great place to get up and away from the city. We soaked in the hot tub after walking around at pride all day. Was a great thing to have so close. Kevin was always very nice and helpful. Always good conversation. Wish we had more time to just hang out at the air bnb. We were constantly finding new things in our walk to and from the car. Would stay here again.

2nd best stay in the bay! The former home of a music legend, this mountainside villa is the ideal place to get away from it all; close to Downtown Oakland, just across the bridge from San Francisco. Quiet, beautiful, modular space and surroundings fit for 70s era royalty, with some modern touches. If you are interested in recording packages, please inquire through our other listing, "Historic Rock n Roll Fantasy Camp". Otherwise, stay on the line and we'll get right back to you.
The unit is extremely versatile and can transform from a full service music and film studio to an extremely comfortable hillside getaway with some of the greatest amenities. Just to be clear, this is a recording studio (both in the past and presently, however, this listing DOES NOT include "formal studio time, such as full rehearsals and/or recording packages). The live room can be used for group meetings or as a large size bedroom/living room combo and the spacious deck can be used to lounge, throw darts or enjoy spectacular dining with view. -The property is secured with multiple cameras around the exterior. If you are a registered guest, these measures have been taken for both your safety and privacy. This unit will fit just about any need, let us know how can we transform the space to fit your needs. Going, going, gone.
This neighborhood is one of the most scenic and quietly reserved the bay area has to offer. Sweeping views of the valley and gorgeous surroundings combine to make this stay magical. Whether it be the wild turkeys squawking about, dear battling the steep terrain, or endless bird watching, this studio retreat is one of a kind. It doesn't get much better than this.
  • When I walked into the space, I was speechless & I ran into every single room because I couldn't wait to start playing music! Even though we couldn't use the entire music system because it was a different package, the keyboard & mic was enough for us to write songs & sing! The kitchen wasn't really a kitchen where you can cook anything but that was just a small part of it. I LOVED the huge tub! I couldn't stop taking baths! The view when I woke up was so beautiful! Stepping away from the city of SF & being surrounded by huge trees felt so surreal! I hope I can find an opportunity to stay there again!

  • Amazing place to stay! Great view, great host. Joe got us some local brew to try out as well, and was really helpful all the time. We were touring in the area so the amps and PA allowed us to fiddle around with our material a bit while we were there as well while we figured out our gear setup.

    Aaron2015-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Spent the night here to work on some new songs. Awesome/ funky space that was very creatively fruitful. The surrounding hills and greenery were lovely. Our hosts were wonderful, accommodating but never in the way. I definitely plan to go back for another creative retreat.

    Charlie2014-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • I can't put into words how amazing Joe and his place are. He was an absolutely joy to deal with and is one of the nicest people you can ever hope to meet. He was so welcoming and accommodating. The place itself is beyond words. The photos don't do it justice. It's got a breathtaking view and is so quiet and peaceful. We had an incredible time playing music there and relaxing during our tour stop in the Bay. No need to be a musician though to fully appreciate it. We even saw two deer at night. I can't say enough!

    Jeanna2014-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great time in the studio! Joe is an awesomely accommodating guy, even leaving a bunch of beer for us to sample. The 'live room' (the one with the speakers) is pretty well sound proofed, so we had a great time listening to music late without having to worry about bothering neighbors. There was a pool table, grill, and the bathtub is gigantic! All in all, an amazing experience. We would definitely rent it again in the future. Thanks Joe!

    Isabel2015-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We traveled with two kids (1 and 4) and four adults. I would not recommend the place for travel with small kids, though for adults, and especially musicians it is great. We were too busy to keep the toddler away from wires and the balcony. But before anyone was up i loved sitting on the balcony and sip my coffee and enjoy the quiet, watch the dear, see the mist lift. Because we were so many, the living room was used as a bedroom, which left no common space as all rooms were used as bedrooms, and the balcony the only place with a table, not safe for the kids. We basically used the place to sleep (2 nights) having breakfast at Noah's bagels and with Peet's coffee in Montclair. We met Joe on our way out and he gave us some beers for the trip north, which we appreciated. We were also grateful for the washing machine and dryer.

    Sylviav2016-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • I have to say that my stay here exceeded any and all expectations. Joe proved to be the host with the most as he greeted us with absolute warmth, hospitality, and helpfulness. Very laid back guy who was incredibly friendly. Just awesome. As far as the place is concerned - amazing character. The view from the hammocks on the back deck was gorgeous. We saw a mother deer with her two Bambi babies in tow almost every morning. Three wild turkeys roamed the hills. Stellar jays, a raven, and a host of tree critters made me feel more like I was in a nature preserve than the hills above Oakland. Very serene. I stayed with 5-7 guests over 4 nights and there was ample room for all of us. Joe went out of his way to make sure everyone had a place to lay their head. Provided sheets, blankets, cots, futons, and the 2 beds. There were a few musicians in the entourage and Joe left out the PA and V Drum kit so we could play during the day. Burger Boogaloo by night, and the Valley View by day made for an incredible weekend that I won't soon forget. Will definitely stay here again upon a trip to the Bay Area. We had a rental car and someone who drove up from LA and still made parking work. Definitely tight parking through the hills but didn't have a problem. We were about 10 minutes to Mosswood Park / Temecula / Rockridge and around 30-40 to San Francisco. And I would be remiss not to mention that Joe provided us with lots of delicious beer. Can't think of too many places that can say that! The only difficulty I had the entire weekend was A) Leaving and B) figuring out the lighting. But that may have had something to do with those delicious beers. All the lighting in the house was labeled, so I'm going to have to say operator error on my part. There was also onsite laundry which was awesome. We had the entire downstairs to the house which felt like our own little enclave. All in all I really can't say enough. If there was something we needed Joe made sure we knew to just ask him. Staying here absolutely contributed to a weekend of pure magic.

    Ethan2015-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Joe was an incredibly welcoming host! He made sure we had everything we needed, including a welcome gift of craft beer from his brewery! The listing is exactly as described— beautiful green view from the balcony, and it does indeed feel like a recording artist’s heaven. The console table is impressive. Note to would-be chefs, the indoor kitchen is not suited for serious cooking, it is designed more as an accessory to the recording studio.

This is the perfect spot to decompress in a private, secluded forest setting but still be only 15-20 minutes from fantastic local restaurants, pubs and BART for easy transit to San Francisco. The neighborhood is safe and welcoming. Our studio has everything you need for a weekend retreat or an extended stay. So whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, Chez Shirley is a cozy and convenient place to stay.
The studio is situated on the bottom floor of a hillside built home. This provides a lot of privacy and also has you nestled in the forest. It's very common for deer, turkey, fox, possum and other forest animals to walk through the backyard area. They are harmless and a joy to watch as you enjoy a coffee in the morning or a beverage in the evening.
Our neighborhood is in the Oakland Hills with spectacular views of the San Francisco bay and skyline as well as views of regional parks to the east. It is a quiet dead-end street with little traffic and lots of bird song. Thirty miles of walking and biking trails are our backyard. We are also a short drive from a family friend village with a weekly farmers market and the Chabot Space and Science Center is within walking distance through the park.
  • Beautiful spot nestled in the Redwoods. Perfect for a getaway weekend for 2, hiking, or some SF fun! Clean and accommodating, highly recommend!

Our spacious and sunny studio has garden views, a relaxing atmosphere, and a Mediterranean feel with lovely high ceilings and arched windows. The patio and garden are just outside the door. The studio is a short walk to restaurants, shopping, a park and lagoon, the public library, a lake and beautiful trails. We are close to the freeway and to public bus transport. Our place is great for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. Hablamos español.
Surrounded by year round natural beauty, you can walk a few blocks to browse, buy a coffee or take care of other needs. Guests frequently comment on the tranquility of being surrounded by trees and gardens. Our studio is a comfortable, sunny, private enclave yet extremely close to transportation. The location provides easy access to the rest of the wonderful Bay Area. It is a perfect getaway.
The Montclair district of Oakland is a beautiful area of the Oakland hills. If you have a car, you can be in a regional park in 10 minutes. You can walk nearby trails directly from the studio. We are about three blocks from Montclair Village which is full of restaurants, coffee shops and other shopping and services. A charming public library is across the street. Public transport is also available.
  • Ellen's place was wonderful. She included a few added touches to make us feel right at home. The space was very large and clean. Checking in and out was a breeze. We had a rental car so I'm not sure how accessible public transportation is but their place is in a safe, quiet neighborhood which we really enjoyed coming back to every night. Overall, I highly recommend staying here!

  • Great location! Not too far from Berkeley area and very close to some wonderful restaurants, just down the street. Highly recommended! Also, the cat outside is the sweeetest little one. Caught her sunbathing outside and couldn’t help but spend 20 minutes with her.

Private, light, quiet studio in the Montclair District of the Oakland hills, with deck above; parking in driveway. A 1.3 mile (level) pretty walk to Montclair Village, where you'll find cafés, restaurants, bookstores, groceries, a park; excellent weekly discount.
Private, sunny, quiet studio w/bathroom in the Montclair District of Oakland. Separate from the main house with a private entrance. Convenient location: close to shopping area and freeway access. Bamboo floors, lots of light (but shades if you need them); the room has large windows looking out on a pretty garden. Queen bed w/down comforter, large closet and built in drawers. Cable TV w/HBO, high-speed WiFi, clock radio, local guides and a nice assortment of books & magazines. We provide clean linens (including freshly laundered duvet cover for each guest), towels, tea and coffee w/your choice of milk, orange juice, and a welcome basket of snacks. The bathroom has a new tiled floor and adjustable shower head in the shower; toiletries, iron/ironing board, blow dryer, umbrellas provided. Guests park in our driveway. Map, guidebooks, and a nice assortment of books are in the room. No kitchen--and not really conducive to food preparation--mini-fridge, electric hot water pot & coffee maker. Getting Around: The neighborhood is lovely, safe and friendly—lots of walkers! The house is a 1.3 mile level walk to the heart of Montclair Village, where you'll find cafés, restaurants, bookstores, groceries & pharmacies; as well as a Sunday Farmers' Market. A charming local library is a mile away. Lake Temescal—an attractive East Bay Regional Park—is just down the hill from us. The house is on a quiet street, yet just a few blocks from access to the freeway. Twenty minutes to S.F. during non-rush hour periods, and five minutes to Berkeley. The Rockridge BART station is 5 minutes away by car. (Please note: it's much easier to stay here if you have a car; it's a long, steep walk to the BART station, and the buses don't run frequently.)
Montclair is a friendly, beautiful neighborhood. I love that we live on a level street, in the lower area of the hills. It's conveniently close to "The Village," No long, winding roads to get lost in; easy access to other cities.
  • Rachel's space is amazing - squeaky clean, close to town, peaceful and quiet. This is my second stay in one week. I highly recommend this little gem in Montclair. Totally private. Rachel has paid attention to every detail - from the best coffee to a wonderful library of books to read and a great chair to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful manicured garden area. I stay in Airbnb's every week or two for work and this is one of my favorites. Thanks, Rachel. Love it.

    Ashala2014-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place was perfect for our stay in San Fran. We spent the morning in Montclair (1 mile) , starting the day with some coffee. The house was in an extremely convenient location to jump on the highway and head downtown, which was about 20 minutes away. After a long day of sightseeing, the studio was the perfect place to crash. We had our own quiet, private area. The bed and shower were both great. Our host also provided coffee, tea, and some snacks. As our first Air BNB experience, this was perfect and we couldn't have asked for anything better. We would stay again in a heartbeat.

    Chris2014-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was very welcoming and greeted us when we arrived. She offered to help in any way she could. Apt. was just as described, very clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful stay and would book her place again if available when we return to CA. She even stocked the fridge with milk and juice and had coffee and tea and some snacks which was a nice surprise for two tired travelers. Loved the area too.

    Faye2015-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for privacy it's the perfect place to be in the Bay Area! It's a very nice appartement on your own, lovingly decorated, with access to the garden. The hosts stay in the backgroud, but they are there if you need them. And we unfortunately did, so Rachel helped us to find a doctor and took care of us. Thank you, we recommend this place and hosts wholeheartedly!

    Sissi2013-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • This rental is small, but very nice. Clean & comfortable. It's perfect for a quiet getaway, but close enough to city amenities. The neighborhood is especially pleasant and access to the freeway is excellent for getting around the area.

    Robert2017-05-08T00:00:00Z
  • The host made us feel welcome by placing snacks in the room and in the refrigerator. The clean towels were right there on the bed when we arrived. The rooms were immaculate and felt very warm and welcoming. The neighborhood is lovely, we met a few people who were walking their dogs, and being dog lovers, we approached and asked if we could pet them -these people were lovely (as were the dogs!) I have absolutely nothing negative to say about our accommodations -so much better than a hotel room. The selection of books and magazines available to the guests were also a great extra touch. The setting was perfect -it was not a "downer" to have to go back to our room -it was wonderful.

    Barbara2015-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel was great. She put up with my shenanigans when I accidentally locked the keys in the house at 3 am. Oops!! I'm sorry Rachel. Anyways, the place was excellent and very well maintained. Recommended for anyone looking to get away to Oakland or San Francisco.

    John2016-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • It's a prefect place in a perfect neighborhood. Rachel is so thoughtful that she prepared everything we need in this cozy comfortable studio. Although we didn't meet her, we got a lot of information from a brochure made by Rachel herself. We even hope we could have a house like Rachel's place. It's a wonderful experience, we would definitely come again!

Close to everything... but away from it all. Escape for a night or a week to your cozy garden guesthouse in the woodsy Oakland Hills. Walk down the well lit pathway to your own little getaway. Easy access with a keypad lock, brand new Queen bed with quality pillows, private bath and a few good books. We have the fastest streaming internet for your Netflix and two outdoor spaces, a couch under the giant redwood or a sunny little picnic stop. Free dedicated parking spot. Note: narrow street
This is a private guesthouse under a giant redwood tree in the Oakland Hills.
Our house was built in 1936 as a cottage vacation home to escape downtown SF. We like to keep it that way. :) It's just a simple little place to enjoy a few trees still a mile from all of the restaurants and shopping you could want. If you are yelping the area - check Rockridge Oakland and Montclair Village.
  • Bright, amazing little place under the redwood tree. Loved the decor and Analisa's thoughtful touches everywhere we turned.

    Karissa2019-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, comfortable zen spot in the middle of nice Red Wood Trees. Analisa was very nice and responsive. I highly recommend, or if I am selfish , I won't say so I can enjoy. No seriously, it will be a repeat location for me.

  • Analisa’s place was way better than we expected! It was so clean and she put special thought into hosting us like leaving water, snacks and coffee out for us. She even turned the heater on for us so that is was warm for us to come home to. Check in was super easy and check out was a breeze. The pictures are super accurate and the space is unbelievably cozy!! I would stay there again and again! Definitely worth a stay at this cozy and clean get away! :)

  • Very responsive and quick to reply to all inquires. Beautiful guest home in lovely neighborhood. I thought not having a TV would be an issue for my boyfriend, but the peaceful setting really makes you appreciate the simple things, like the huge Redwood tree in the front yard. Awesome space awesome host.

  • I booked Karin's place the night before I arrived as I was having a bad experience at another Airbnb. Karin was very sweet and accommodating. Her house is clean and quiet, which was perfect for me and my friend. Karin has an alarm system, which made us feel very safe. There are other long-term tenants in the house, who were all very quiet and cordial. One of the best value places I've stayed on Airbnb.

  • Karin’s place is a peaceful oasis in the busy Bay Area. It was great to be there after my day of adventure.

  • Karin has a magnificent home and immaculate accommodations! I highly recommend this great value. She is a knowledgeable host who can help a tourist find what they seek, great energy, great vibe & easy parking. BRAVO KARIN, BRAVO! I loved my 1st AirBnB with you.

    Rick2017-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with Karin for 10 days in February 2016, and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The room is a bit small, but the bed is large and very comfortable, so you will have a good night's sleep. Wi-Fi internet is provided as part of your stay, and the connection is stable and fast. The house itself is very quaint, comfortable, and in a quiet residential area, so if you are relish peace and quiet, you will be happy here. As a host, Karin is friendly and accommodating, and overall, a wonderful host. I recommend her home, and would definitely stay here again.

  • The morning tranquility, perched above Oakland. Still just a short bike ride down to Grand Lake area of Oakland, this Classic Spanish Revival home is a gem. Karin is a wonderful host and everything runs like clockwork. Thank you Karin.

  • I just had a great night's sleep at Karin's. Her home is quiet, comfortable, very clean, has lots of amenities and is situated beautifully. A short drive from shops and restaurants, but with a gorgeous view over Oakland and San Francisco. My room was cozy and charming. I highly recommend Karin's place!

Completely separate lower portion of house with private entrance. One large room and master bedroom suite with bathroom and walk-in closet. Quiet neighborhood in a woodsy area - eucalyptus grove and other vegetation around. 5 minute drive or 15-20 minute walk to Montclair Village with lots of restaurants and shops. Many hiking trails nearby. Easy access to freeway and 10 minutes driving to public transportation. About 35 stairs down to the unit.
Quiet neighborhood, great for walks. No sidewalks and lots of trees - deer, squirrel, birds, fox live in the neighborhood too!
  • A great, private spot. Would highly recommend!

  • This place is clean, spacious, and has everything that it needs! I would definitely recommend this place to all my friends. It’s in a safe area and it is very private and separate from the main house!

  • Very nice place in the hills.

    Andres2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place is lovely and quiet. Surrounded by hills and trees, it is the perfect getaway alternative to a hotel room! You would never know you are surrounded by such an urban area, but have access to all the amenities of Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. You may wish to be aware that, while there is a coffee maker, small fridge, and microwave, there is no kitchen. We were only there for a few days so it was no problem for us.

    Linda2019-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • Meredith’s place was lovely, it was so quiet you felt like you were out in the woods even though there was restaurants and shops just a car ride away! We couldn’t have asked for more.

    Samantha2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Treehouse is an amazing space for an excellent romantic getaway. Secluded in the hills of Piedmont Pines, far enough away from the busy Oakland vibes to embrace the natural scenery yet close enough to drive to when you’re ready to hit the town! The space itself has everything that you would need. It is comfortable, private, quiet, and charming. The bed is comfortable, the shower small and elegant, and the porch is a great spot to sip a tea and/or morning coffee while watching the sun rise. We will be back!

    Vanessa2019-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Meredith has a beautiful home with a view that words and pictures do not do justice to! She was very responsive and checked in on us right away, thank you!

  • My partner and I had a great experience for our 3 night stay in this garden suite! It was perfect in what we were looking for! Virginia was also a great hostess and gave great clarification to all questions we had. The suite was clean, well organized and exactly like how it was described. The home is located in a nice, peaceful neighborhood that was also not too far from the freeway (which I thought was a plus).

    Vicky2016-05-13T00:00:00Z
  • Virginia's house is just as described in the pictures: big and comfortable. Piedmont is a beatiful area in Oakland, very convenient if you don't like staying in the noise of the city centre. Views from the road are awesome and her garden is a very pleasant place to relax in the evening or to have breakfast in the morning and getting ready for the day. Virginia was very helpful from the start. At the last moment we needed an extra room for some friends and she offered one, we didn't have winter clothes and she lend us some polars for all of us. She was also very helpful when giving us tips on what to do with the children. I would definitely book at Virginia's place again if we ever come back!

    Raquel2016-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Host was very helpful with instructions before and after we arrived. The view from the house was outstanding, the neighborhood very quiet. Her landscaping was magnificent all around the house -- SO PRETTY!! Accommodations were excellent...very comfortable and welcoming. Plenty of necessities (towels, blankets, pillows), would most definitely stay again!! Your home was so nice, your hospitality top-notch. Thank you Virginia!

    Dirk2016-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this space so much it was a beautiful little sanctuary to relax in after adventuring through the city. The community, yard space, and room were all gorgeous and the bed comfy cozy! All around, an amazing experience! Also, Virginia was great at communicating and a very sweet person when we spoke face to face I will totally be booking this space again in the future trips down to the Bay Area! Highly recommend☺️

    Asha2018-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • The room at Virginia's home was very comfortable and clean, I had a lovely stay. Walkable (with some effort) to a local shopping plaza for groceries and coffee, but there's plenty of parking in the neighborhood for a car. Overall, a great value.

    Eve2017-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home. The yogurt, tea, coffee, and fruits was such a sweet surprise. The view from the front patio was amazing. Very comfortable bed.

1 TWIN bed. If needed, an extra foam bed goes on floor for 2nd person. Oven, stove top burners, fridge, microwave, closet, shelves, desk, eating surface. Book as two (2) people if you are bringing a pet. If you are two people & a pet then you will work out pet payment with me in person. Describe your pet. Let me know if extra bed on floor is needed for 2nd guest so I can prepare bedding accordingly. Ceiling is a bit low: above 6'6" you might duck when entering doorways.
This unit is quiet and a wonderful retreat for your stay in Oakland area. Pet owners will appreciate that their dog is allowed but must note that it is a small space and walking a dog on the street is a good idea for the neighborhood is great for taking walks. I appreciate that you do not use my backyard to walk your dog for its needs.
This is consider the "Oakland hills" but this house is only a few turns in the road up and not high up in the hills. You can enjoy neighborhood walks at any time. It is also an easy place to have a bicycle. You could bring a bike and easily store it outside on the property. It is very safe and secure here in this neighborhood. I have lived here for over 30 years and know my neighbors well. The quaint town of Montclair is a 20 min walk. It has coffee shops, grocery stores, post office, library, good restaurants and a bus stop with great connections. Piedmont Avenue with great restaurants and the Temescal and Rockridge neighborhoods are both about 10 min away. A parking lot for BART commuters to S.F. is also 10 min down the hill. You can also reach downtown Oakland in 10 min if there is not heavy traffic on the freeway. Temescal park is 5 minutes away for it has an entrance just yards from the freeway entrance down the hill from the house. Other East Bay Regional Parks are also very close by. Great hiking access!
  • Jim was very accommodating and everything was prepared in advance for my arrival. I really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. The only caution is as others have stated, if you are over 5'10", the ceiling will come pretty close to your head. Other than that, great time!

    John2016-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was very kind and helpful throughout the entire process. The studio was very clean, safe and quiet. Jim expressed exceptional communication and was always ahead of the game. I would definitely return again and recommend the studio to friends and family in the future.

    Mary2016-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jim is a warm and friendly host. the room very is very pleasant, has private entrance, it's own little bathroom/shower, and a little sink/stove microwave/refrigerator, which is nice. The bed is comfortable, and even with some jet-lag, I slept well. It's in a safe area, in the hills, and as other Airbnb rooms go, very reasonably priced. I would genuinely recommend it. but it's small, and if you're over 6' tall, be warned the ceiling is about 6'-1 ½" high. I'm 6' tall and it didn't really bother me, but it probably would if you're taller. for the rest of us is a cozy, quiet, little nook.

    John2015-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • It was my worst decision to lodge there. The bed and blanket look like more than 100 years. The dirt carpet, too small room and rest room. If you are more than 180 cm, your hairs will brush all ceilings. You can see a spider every morning in bath. The owner did not use e-mail or any message. There is no WiFi. Even though I called, there was only automatic reply recording and after 3 hours he or his assistant replied. Accordingly, you can feel terrible communication problem in the house. If you want to enjoy 19 century life, you can do it. There is no parking lot for customer and the road is too narrow. I had to walk 200 meters from the house to park my car. Do not forget there is no public transportation. I had to pay about 100 dollars per day including tax and Airbnb fee. I am wandering how can the owner gain money through the terrible house and why many people left good impression.

    신언2016-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was incredibly friendly and accommodating. Good communication. Always responded to emails in a timely manner. Space everything it advertised. Overall, enjoyed my time there.

  • Jim's place feels like living in a beautiful tree house on the side of the hill. Jim has many lovely books to read and keeps a clean and serene home. Walking through the neighborhood with my dog was very lovely... there are trees everywhere! I would have stayed longer if it wasn't already booked! Thanks Jim for a great couple of days!

  • Nancy was such an amazing host; very lovely and caring about the environment. She is so sweet and always attentive. She sent both my boyfriend and I very detailed directions to her home before arriving, just in case the gps didn’t leave us in the correct destination. The pictures she provides are exactly. She has such a beautiful home with an amazing view. The area is spectacular and the road to get to her home was beautiful especially at night when we saw so many deer. The Airbnb is very clean and spacious; there is even a washing machine and dryer where Nancy provides the laundry detergent. Overall we felt very welcomed and had the best stay. We would definitely stay with Nancy anytime and we’d highly recommend.

    Yun2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Nancy's was awesome and totally worth it. It's a very nice place with a comfortable bed, a fridge and a microwave. Nancy has 2 redwood trees behind her house and a small porch where you can sit privately and enjoy the nature. It's not directly in the city but with a car or Uber you can get to the BART station that brings you downtown. We loved it that way, it was beautiful outside.

  • This place is just fantastic. I could move into this apartment and never leave - it has it all, kitchen, bedroom, deck, view, great bathroom and super host! And it's close to my mom and only 5 minutes from one of my closest friends. Parking - let's not forget parking, that's important in Oakland! This is pretty much as good as it gets.

  • Joelle is the best of the best! She is very responsive. Her home is beautiful, clean and comfortable. She is so sweet and helped make my boyfriend and I feel right at home. The patio deck is amazing with a peaceful view. I have stayed at airbnb's before but none that added extra little touches to help the stay be more enjoyable. Can't wait to go back and or hire her to decorate my future home! Thanks again, Joelle!

  • Beautiful property, lovely gardens, expansive views. Kitchen well stocked with goodies in frig to get us started. Host welcoming and attentive. A must stay in Oakland. Conveniently located to freeways and local area hot spots

    Diana2018-06-20T00:00:00Z
  • Exceeded our expectations, by far one of the most beautiful Airbnb places I've stayed at. Joelle really takes great care of the property and the interior decor is just beautiful. The patio has a gorgeous view, a great place to sit and have breakfast. Bed was comfortable, washer and dryer were utilised and the kitchen and bathroom were great. We used Lyft to get to San Francisco (such as the Fishermans Wharf) and it only cost $20. Would definitely stay here again, really secluded and perfect for a quiet, relaxing retreat.

    Rosie2017-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great little spot. We always stay in San Fran but this time decided to give Oakland a try. Joelle was lovely and communicative and the spot is a little gem. Great little quiet get away for a few days. Would recommend for sure.

Enjoy your stay in the Bay Area with a private getaway in the Oakland Hills! 5-minute ride or Lyft to BART. This is a large bedroom in a single-family house, with your own remodeled bathroom with a bathtub. Hot tub available in the backyard! Additional bathroom with a shower is shared with the homeowners but fully available to you. Kitchen also shared but fully accessible to you; make coffee & use appliances as you need. Small & very friendly dog lives with the homeowners. Free & easy parking.
  • We had a great stay at Michael's! We were there for 2 nights in late August. My boyfriend and I were mainly visiting San Fran, so unfortunately weren't at the house a ton, but the time we did spend there was great. The house was lovely and had really beautiful tile work. It also comes with a parking spot! Michael was friendly and hospitable, as was his adorable partner-in-crime Fetch - a sweet, small dog who looked for belly rubs at every opportunity. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Michael's wife but we were grateful they opened up their family home to us. There was no issue checking-in or coming in/out. The bed was very comfortable and it was nice being in nature after the city all day. There is a private bathroom with a tub available, but it was no issue using the main bathroom on the first floor as well. Coffee was also available to us each morning. It was a great experience and we'd definitely return!

  • We had a lovely 3-night stay in this large yet cozy space. Michael and Barbara are very friendly and accommodating. It was nice to be in nature but so close to the city.

  • Michael & Barbara are kind, helpful people with a lovely home in a great location. Their house is surrounded by a remarkably diverse community of spectacular trees (Redwood, Cedar, Fig, Maple) & the soothing sound of flowing water. The bedroom space is surprisingly large with two plush, comfortable beds & beautiful views from multiple windows. The tub in the private bathroom was a welcomed treat after a day of hiking trails. Their kitchen is equipt with everything one might need to cook & space in the fridge is available for your food. Michael was quick to respond to all communications & very accommodating/ understanding when plans unexpectedly changed & i needed to leave a day early.

    Julie2018-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed. Good facilities, clean, in a very calm area. Easy to go to San Francisco. Restaurants not fat. Michael and his wife were very helpful.

  • Great location. Friendly dog. Fetch. If you like being deep in the wood in the middle of the city. Stay here. The whole top of the house is great. Great privacy and the hosts are so very warm, friendly, as well as interesting and accomplished individuals.

Escape to tranquility into the hills above Oakland and allow the concerns of the big-city to dissolve into the feather-soft essence of the morning mist as it sweeps through the lush, green trees surrounding you. In the morning, brew up a cup of coffee or tea, and slip into your patio for most relaxing morning you've had in a long, long time. Being here with the vast expanse of nature while allowing yourself to be present to it and let it in may just calm you down enough to let go of your worries
Surrounded by year round natural beauty, you can drive a few minutes to browse, buy a coffee or take care of other needs. Guests frequently comment on the tranquility of being surrounded by trees and gardens. Our bedrooms are comfortable, sunny, private enclaves yet extremely close to expansive hiking and very close to piedmont and Montclair. The location provides easy access to the rest of the wonderful Bay Area. It is a perfect getaway. The views are breathtaking, all three floors of our home have patios with views that capture down town San Francisco, the bay bridge and the golden gate bridge on a clear day. This is a perfect space for hosting a work related gathering, the wifi is fast and consistent, and there are desk spaces set up as well as full private access to the sauna and steam bath. In your studio you can utilize your private bathroom and shower, and you are welcome to come up the steps to the shared kitchen and cook or use the dishwasher, fridge, etc. You also have your own mini fridge in the Suite, new drapes just installed ( not pictured ) a 42' TV which runs Roku with Netflix, will also hook up to your computer, hangars for your clothing, a mini hot pot, microwave, toaster, desk & chair and much more all in your private room. We just ask that after 10pm you be mindful of sound and walk softly if you are in the upper levels, as the house is filled with working professionals who go to bed around 10pm and wake early. Thus, this is not a place for a party or significant alcohol.
We are at the pinnacle of the hills above the bay area with views that span so far that you can take in SF downtown and both bridges from our porch, and yet, at the same time, we are just 10m from the bustle and culture of college avenue, and just 5m from the freeway with quick access to the full breadth of the SF Bay Area. Beyond that, we are literally a 3 minute walk from one of the most precious hidden gems in the SF Bay Area... Sibley Volcanic Preserve. The last picture of our listing is actually of Sibley, and its waiting for you to get your body energy up with a brisk walk, hike or run. • Absolutely loved this place ! The house was very easy to find, as well as being provided with detailed description on how to find the house and room. Careful for the steep steps, though. The room was clean, and warm! The sauna was also ready to use, nice and clean. Jonathan was very friendly and person, felt right at home ! The room overlooks a beautiful scenery, so happy to have picked this place for our trip to the Bay Area. 10/10 would recommend .

  • The host was very accommodating, personable and made me feel welcomed. He went above and beyond to get the place perfect for my stay. The view, the location, the privacy, awesome hot powerful shower, and sauna made it all worth it. The stairs are rather intense but he made up for that by placing an water kettle, toaster oven and mini-fridge all during my stay. I’m totally impressed and would’ve stayed longer if the timing was right. Location is close enough to Oakland and Berkeley but far enough to be away from the noise. All in all, it’s a nice little place in nature to escape, unwind and feel special. Thanks Jonathan!

  • Ted and Stefanie's guest house/cabin was perfect for me. It's a small but comfortable unit beautifully finished and decorated. Impeccably clean. Ted's artistry comes through in spots with his exceptional stone work, such as in the bathroom. This cabin is incredibly quiet and separate from the main home with its own entrance. There are amenities such as water, various snacks, a TV, iron, interesting books, a small fridge, microwave and more. I took long walks in the Oakland hills from there through wonderful neighborhoods and parks. I can tell they worked hard to develop a quiet and inward looking environment. That's what I needed. It's a perfect place to meditate, write and reflect. You can sit outside on your own porch and look into the hills below you. The hosts were gracious people and respectful of my privacy. The stay was worth every penny. Whenever I come back to the Bay Area this will be the first place I'll look for an opening.

  • What a wonderful house it is right here! Love the decorations and everything else around it, not mention these are all hand made by Ted. His family was friendly, as well. Gave us a warmly welcome and invited us to coffee, unfortunately there was no enough time to hang out with you guys this time, hope we will spend some time to watch Warriors game together next time! Let's go warriors, lol!

  • My stay at Ted and Stefanie's place, nestled in the Oakland hills, was tranquil and rejuvenating. I loved walking the neighborhood loop and stopping to take in breath-taking vistas. The space is beautifully designed, artistically decorated, and really well equipped. It is truly a Sanctuary.

  • The gas fireplace and stonework in the shower are pieces of art!

    Linda2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful sanctuary, peaceful and serene. Beautifully apointed and amazing stonework throughout. Hosts were friendly and accommodating. Perched attop the Oakland hills you will feel at home here.

Explore San Francisco and the Bay Area from this private room in a beautiful home with terrific views. This room is in a retreat-like home close to great restaurants/stores—walking distance from the house. Close to Public Transport and Park Blvd Causal Carpool. Catch the early morning SF bound V commuter bus or the Causal Carpool. The 33 bus runs to downtown Oakland BART or a short walk to Jack London Square's Ferry Terminal. Visit Sonoma or Napa! Enjoy our chicken's fresh eggs for breakfast.
Terrific views of San Francisco Bay from our Mediterranean Villa-type home located in Oakland. Enjoys a large spacious living room, kitchen, breakfast nook and dinning room. The breakfast nook and dinning room offer exquisite views of the SF Bay. There is a TV in the living room and Internet throughout the house. The bedroom has a double bed with a new TempurPedic Mattress and heated mattress pad. There is space to hang and store your clothes. All bed linens and towels will be clean for you. The bedroom door has a lock and key for your use. The kitchen offers some really handy things, including a Green Star Juicer, an Ice Cream Maker, Excalibur Dehydrator, Vita Mix Blender, and Dishwasher. The breakfast nook is a great place to sit and drink tea or coffee in the morning—it always feels filled with sunlight. The separate traditional dinning room is a great place to have dinner around the large circular dinning table and watch the lights flickering over the SF Bay. The laundry has a washer, dryer, iron, and Ironing board. But with the beautiful Oakland weather and our lovely large back yard, who needs a dryer? There is one bathroom complete with tub and shower—also available is a hair dryer and flat iron. The Solar panels on the roof give a seemingly endless supply of hot water. There is a huge backyard with chickens enclosed in a Coop and Run. A great place for children to play. The back yard offers both shade and sunshine. The deck to the front of the house is right outside the front door. It is also a great place to eat or just soak up the view. My wonderful home with its beautiful wood cabinets is reached by walking up about 55 steps—The steps make the house look like a castle but also keep it free from solicitors. The beautiful sunsets are your reward for climbing up. There is loads of free parking right outside the house on the street. Also there is a double garage if you need to store some thing that you do not want to leave in your car or haul up the steps. Just a walk away there is a variety of restaurants on Park Blvd and Leimert.
The neighborhood is quiet and safe —it is close to many notable landmarks. Head Royce Private School and the various Temples on Lincoln. Easy freeway access to 580 or 13.
  • The house has nice details and the way it is situated makes it feel like a tree house with some beautiful views. Loved that! The bedroom is quiet and the bed very comfortable. Ann is a very gracious host and wants to make one's stay a positive experience. Her little touches make one feel like you just stayed with a friend.

  • Great location, beautiful home with lots of potential. WiFi didn’t work in the room but it was nice and clean. Lots of space to lounge around.

    Evan2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and i loved our stay. Great location, beautiful views, easy to get around and my boyfriend is still talking about how comfortable the bed was lol! Highly recommend staying here!

    Samantha2018-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Ann is an absolutely great host! She, and her home, are very warm and welcoming. The house and bedroom were very clean, and what worked best for my traveling was the ability to self check-in at a later hour. I had a very late flight and the lockbox on the door made checking in very easy! The neighborhood is very nice as well, which makes for a great walk to the Park Blvd restaurants. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely be staying here!

    Cory2018-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed the four days with Ann in her comfortable house. We spent a lovely holidays with Ann's tips and her help. We stayed as a local people. Thank you Ann. Miss you a lot.

A spotlessly clean home, with great facilities, a very comfortable bed & nice breakfast also. Great value for money & highly recommended for other Airbnb viewers Suits travellers seeking a peaceful characteristic retreat to add to to their experience. 10/10

  • Ann's place exceeded my expectations. It's an old house with lot's of character which kinda makes you feel at home. The backyard accomodates many interesting animals including squirrels, chickens and the odd skunk. Ann was a great host and is quite an interesting and warm person. Overall, I would highly recommend her place as it offers great value and is located near public transport (e.g. bus stop is just a 10 minute walk away).

  • Great spot! Easy access. I had no interaction with Vanessa but briefly met her husband as I checked out. Great location. Secluded and quiet. Only small issue would be the water pressure in the shower and the hot water takes a few minutes to warm up. Other than that though it’s a great and clean spot.

    Michael2018-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • We really love staying here and have now stayed twice! Great location, super clean, gorgeous view, nice neighborhood—really not much to beat. We appreciate spending time here and having such a nice space to stay in. Thanks for hosting us!

  • Vanessa was a great host and the cottage was super cute and cozy to stay in! many thoughtful touches to make you feel at home. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but that would be our only negative! Just a quick Uber to the train station to get into SF too.

    Rob2018-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cottage, quite neighborhood and well located in the SF Bay Area. The place was immaculate, charming, professionally decorated and well designed for 2 people stay. It is very romantic and has views to the indoor garden and a nice balcony. Hosts were very helpful and provide easy access and tips. We will definitely go back to the same place if we are in the area again.

    Juanita2018-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing!!! The neighborhood is so nice and quiet. It’s a quick trip to the city if your wanting to visit San Francisco. Vanessa and her husband are the absolute best hosts! Their cottage is the cutest place and my husband and I definitely plan to come back!

    Ashley2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is really cute and comfy. They had a little dog in the garden, he was very cute. The cottage was clean and we enjoyed our stay there. To visit San Francisco, you need 7$ for the Bridge and it takes you 40 minutes. The WiFi connection could be better because it broke up a few times. We would stay there again.

  • It was my first Airbnb experience so I was not sure what to expect. With this place, it is exactly what is pictured. Cleanliness on point. I love how secluded it was from my normal city life. Having a delicious dimsum breakfast before checking out was the best highlight of my stay. Super convenient location because it was close by to all the nice spots for drinks/dinner. And the drive to SF afterwards was not bad at all. Would book again and recommend it to everyone ♡

Our private and well appointed apartment enjoys a wonderful view and has dedicated on street parking. It is located on the lower level of our Mediterranean styled home, with separate entry, exterior patio and laundry for exclusive guest use; no owner personal belongings. We recently upgraded the wireless service so it has an excellent connection, also has a new Danish queen sofa bed which is easy to unfold and extremely comfortable. There is a flight of exterior stairs to the apartment.
The apartment is located on the lower level of an Architect's beautiful Mediterranean styled home, but has complete privacy with a separate entry and patio. It is like a very nice hotel and has no owner personal belongings. The decor is warm, modern, and welcoming. The windows overlook a sea of California oak and bay trees to an amazing view of the new Bay Bridge tower with the Golden Gate Bridge beyond. The apartment can sleep up to four guests, with a new queen-sized bed in the bedroom plus a new Danish design queen-sized sofa bed in the living room. This sofa-bed unfolds from the top and there is no need to remove cushions, and it is very comfortable, not your ordinary sofa-bed! There are hardwood floors and tasteful furnishings throughout. The kitchen is fully equipped with granite counter tops, dishwasher, gas oven and cooktop, microwave and large refrigerator. The large elegant bathroom sports a heated marble floor, marble counter, and bathtub with overhead shower. There is a large closet and plenty of dresser drawers for your belongings. The apartment is naturally cool in summer, and has radiant heated floors for cool days in the winter. Your own laundry room with full sized washer and dryer is available for your exclusive use. But the best part is the view...you can watch the sunrise illuminate downtown Oakland and San Francisco, enjoy ever changing sunsets, or perhaps witness a carpet of fog crowned by a clear blue sky. You will delight in the ever-changing view! We are often not home, but love to meet our guests whenever possible. Oakland is centrally located in the Bay area and enjoys great sunny weather year round. Our neighborhood is called Oakmore Highlands and overlooks Dimond Canyon Park, which features a wonderful hiking trail. It's a very nice walking street, with friendly neighbors. Also very popular with bicycle riders. Transportation and parking are very convenient. There is ample on-street free parking on this quiet street with only one immediate neighbor. Freeway access is very quick and easy via highway Highway 13 and I-580. San Francisco is about 20 minutes away, or a convenient commute via BART from its nearby Rockridge Station. We are very near the University of California at Berkeley campus (17 12 min.), and major highways (phone number hidden) and 880, which can whisk you to the vibrant galleries of Sausalito (40 minutes), San Jose (50 minutes), or Santa Cruz (90 minutes). If you are up for a day-long outing, don't miss the grand Muir Woods, wine tours in Napa, or mud baths in Calistoga. Quick access to sunshine on foggy days via the Caldecott Tunnel to points east - Orinda, Lafayette, Walnut Creek, and Lake Tahoe (~3 1/2 hours.) If you need anything please contact us. We take great pride in our property - we want to hear about anything which is not to your satisfaction or is not working properly.
I love this neighborhood because it is SUNNY, (much warmer than San Francisco) is centrally located to freeways, has quick access to shopping, great restaurants and groceries. The neighbors are very friendly, lots of dog walking.
  • This airbnb was terrific! It was clean and very comfortable with a great view of San Francisco.I enjoyed this particularly for the bed comfort and nice bathroom! I recommend this as a great fined!

  • Immaculate and very stylish apartment! We enjoyed the beautiful view and the quite neighborhood. Location was perfect and we loved the fact there was designated parking right in front of apartment. Thank you Marianne!

    Karen2018-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable apartment, with lovely views towards San Francisco, we could see both The Golden Gate Bridge and The Bay Bridge and the firework display on New Year's Eve. The apartment was very well equipped, with a comfortable bed, pillows and chairs. The heated floor in the spacious bathroom was an added luxury. Having the use of the laundry room was an asset. The apartment is in a quiet neighbourhood, but the use of a vehicle is probably a necessity, as no public transport is that close. We met Marianne's partner - he was very friendly and offered us any assistance, if required. This apartment was a really good find and we would certainly use it again, if we were in this area. Many thanks

  • I stayed with three friend. The house is located in quiet neighborhood. House is really clean and stylish. There were everything we needed. Beds are very comfortable. We took Uber from 12th street station. It took only 15 minuets. And the host is very kind.

  • My daughter and I can't say enough about this amazing experience. We traveled to attend my niece's wedding. The place is better than the photos. Great kitchen as we did do some cooking. Marianne was exceptional and readily available. The home is located in a beautiful neighborhood. Uber, if needed, arrived within minutes. Close to BART. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I'm lucky enough to return. Thank you so very much having us!

Located 60 stairs down from street level is our private, modern studio cottage with a spectacular 180 degree view of downtown Oakland, San Francisco, the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge. Outside you have access to a private 200 square foot deck with another two chairs and a side table.
The cottage is in a secluded location near the bottom of property. There are handrails and lighting down to the cottage.
The charming village of Montclair is a quick 5-10 minute drive from the cottage. There you can find major grocery stores and a lovely selection of cafes and restaurants. Within walking distance and a short drive of the cottage are numerous beautiful regional parks that offer excellent hiking and walking trails.
  • We LOVED, LOVED, LOVED every moment of our stay at Heather's cottage. The views over the Bay are magical and the place an absolute stunner. We had quite some bad weather during our visit but the panorama windows and floor heating kept us entertained and cosy. Thank you Heather for an absolutely charmed stay at your lovely cottage!! Hope to come back again --

  • We stayed at this cottage one night while we were in town for a Warriors game. The space is so cute, and has a GREAT view overlooking Oakland, the bay, and SF in the distance. Heather left us a bottle of wine and some goodies in the fridge. The cottage itself was very clean, and stylish. I wish we would’ve had more time to spend in the actual room since the view is so pretty. I’d highly recommend staying at her place if you’ll be in the Oakland area, and we will definitely stay here in the future! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Great little place in a hilly neighborhood above Oakland city. We were in town for a friend's wedding, and the place served our purposes perfectly. We got in late, so it was nice to be able to check in easily without having to bother the host at a late hour. It was also nice that the place came equipped with snacks and coffee, so we could refuel while unwinding from a long day of travel. While it's not a walk-able area, there are some nice views from the neighborhood and it's a quick and cheap Uber/Lyft ride into Oakland, Berkeley, and to a couple BART stations. We didn't meet the hosts, but they were very responsive and helpful!

  • Great location and good value. Probably best for short stays as it’s more like renting a room in a house as opposed to private stay....you are in the attached guest house but you can hear everything from the main house, also if you’re visiting in winter make sure to communicate to the hosts about the heat. You do not have personal control over it, which was a bit frustrating.

  • The cottage is a a special place to stay! The apartment is private, immaculate and has really nice amenities. The location is stunningly beautiful - with a gorgeous garden and an amazing view. Even though the drive is up a windy hill, it is easy to find (terrific directions) and convenient to Oakland, Berkeley, and SF. Catherine and Scott were available and accommodating when I needed them, with great communication. I hope to stay with them again.

  • Such a great, quiet place in Oakland Hills. Updated, clean, great art, lots of books and dvds. Amazing garden. Great patio to sit and read.

  • The place is gorgeous! Its a guest house and is completely private. The neighborhood is beautiful and secluded in the woods. The views are breathtaking! Lush gardens, trees, amenities were great. Lovely hosts! Am definitely coming back :)

  • We loved staying at Catherine's guest house. She knows exactly what a traveler wants. Clean, comfort, coffee (with creamer and sugar) and even toiletries were all provided. The place was very spacious and private. Beautiful scenery, with gorgeous plants all around. The location was perfect, quiet but close to quaint eateries and shops. We had no trouble checking in, or out.

  • One of the best places I have ever stayed at. If you need a quiet space to relax or get some work done, this is definitely the space. It’s warm and comfortable

  • Excellent value and nice space with an office for those who want to get a little work done.

  • It was wonderful, tucked into a garden. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was clean and they even had a towel warmer. They also have personalized touches when you stay there and great tips on stuff to do in the area. Kitchenette was stocked too which was a plus. Glad we stayed here and we would definitely come back

  • Chuck was kind and communicative, willing to accommodate my late check-in. Unfortunately, we were unable to make the trip to stay with Chuck due to air travel disruptions from Hurricane Harvey. Based on Chuck's reaction to this unexpected change of plans, I would absolutely book this place on my next stay.

    Caroline2017-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home with an incredible view of Oakland and San Francisco. Very clean and cozy. Chuck even provides a nice breakfast. Outstanding!

  • Chuck was very accommodating. I drove from San Diego during the night and asked if I could check in earlier. Although we ended up arriving later than anticipated, Chuck was ready with our keys. Thank you very much for a stress free weekend. Will definitely stay here again.

  • Susan's place is absolutely outstanding. It definitely feels like a home away from home. It is in a perfect location, close to restaurants, shops and public transportation. It is beautifully furnished and has an eclectic mix of artwork. The views are simply amazing. We were so very thankful for the amenities that were provided especially our first morning there. To have coffee, half and half, cereal and milk provided was such a bonus and totally unexpected(and very appreciated). We all enjoyed staying in this beautiful place and can't wait for our next trip to the west coast. Thank you Susan for being such a wonderful host!!

    Joan2019-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • These accommodations are even better than described. The location is fantastic. Wonderful host! We will never stay anyplace else when visiting Oakland.

    Michelle2012-05-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely and comfortable home in a beautiful setting. It's easy to get to, but you need a car. The airbnb home is private, but Susan is available in the attached unit if needed. We were very happy and recommend it to other travelers to Oakland or Berkeley.

    Carrie2013-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was a wonderful place to stay while we visited our son and daughter-in-law in Oakland. The downstairs apartment is comfortable and tastefully decorated. It features a private porch with a panoramic view of the city. The neighborhood must be one of the best in the East Bay. There's a great little market within walking distance that's like a mom and pop version of Whole Foods. Although Susan was away during our stay, she had made arrangements to see to all of our needs. We hope to stay here again.

    Steve2014-05-31T00:00:00Z
  • OMG, what a gorgeous apartment. My husband and I stayed there for our daughter's wedding with our son, his wife and baby. We had a fabulous stay. The space is beautiful and ample so we had lots of room for all. The view is beyond spectacular. The art, the decor, the furniture were just stunning and we felt like we were on a great vacation. Parking was easy, we were minutes away from Berkeley and Oakland. Susan was lovely and helpful. Consider yourself blessed to be staying at this Airbnb.

    Beverly2013-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very pleasant stay. The house is nice and with all facilities. The view is amazing and the location is convenient to visit the bay. We also discovered Oakland as a very pleasant city.

    Stephanie2012-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Susan's house was absolutely the best experience we've had in the Bay area - and it was our 10th stay in recent years. Susan was very welcoming, thoughtful, and generous. The place is beautiful: large, bright, comfortable, well- equipped - and full of marvelous art and decorative elements. The neighborhood is also lovely - and very quiet. The views of the bay and San Francisco were an added bonus. I can't wait for our next visit!

Private Master Suite in a Modern Cabin like home. Light filled room with pretty views of the valley. It is quite and tranquil, yet with access to restaurants (less than 5 mins away), 7 minutes to Rockridge Bart Station, you can be in the city within 20-30 minutes. Have a desk/worspace with a monitor if you need a quite place to get some work done. Space available in the refrigerator for your food and access to microwave.
It is a large private room with an ensuite bathroom. The house is easy access to Berkeley, Oakland and a easy commute across the bridge to the city.
Nestled in the hills the neighborhood that is super quite and peaceful with beautiful views and wildlife. However it is very easy to access stores and restaurants.
  • Thuria was a wonderful host! Very accommodating and flexible with checking us in. The room and bathroom were very spacious and clean.

  • Home is in a nice location along the hillsides. Room is clean and simply decorated. There is a fan and an extra blanket if you need. Hand and Bath towels and shower toiletries are also available for use. It is about 3.5 miles from UCBerkeley and near a cute little downtown area of Montclair. Bring your water bottles or you can use the Brita pitcher. Thuria was really kind when we met her. She provided keys for us to use for the duration of our 2 day stay. Thanks Thuria! We hope to return for future adventures in the bay area.

    Lan2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts were quick to respond and the bed was comfortable. If you are a light sleeper you may have problems sleeping. The bed in places on an exterior wall facing the street, the sound of passing cars kept me up throughout the night. The lack of certain on one window and shear certians on another caused the room to be illuminated all night. In all, I did not find the room to be tranquil.

    Joanna2019-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thuria's suite is immaculate! The room itself is HUGE. You could probably fit 4 other king beds in there. Plus, with it's spacious attached private master bath , you'll feel completely at home. The home itself is equally spacious so you feel worlds away, especially with the wonderful view of the hills from your window. Thuria was always very responsive with any questions and was so nice to accommodate to our ever changing travel schedule. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for a retreat!

  • Kathryn and I really enjoyed staying at this beautiful home that is sitting on the hill. We appreciated how clean and simple the bedroom was that also includes the nice bathroom and clean towels. Views from the bedroom window were heart-dropping beautiful especially when the sun was rising or dawning. We were able to drive to the Golden Bridge, Muir Woods, many cute towns for highly-rated restaurants. Thuria recommended that we go to Burma Superstar for Indian cuisine and it was banging! We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a simple and beautiful home that is close to many great spots!

    Joseph2018-07-24T00:00:00Z
  • He was super nice. Parking was pretty difficult to find and just a tad bit scary. I’m not super picky But when asked where I can get water and he said the bathroom sink. I don’t mind drink water out the sink but if you do I recommend bringing a bottle of water :)

    Malaynah2018-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • Thuria's room was clean, and check in was a breeze. Would recommend.

Quality, private room with bath in garden setting at our home in the Montclair Hills area of Oakland. Private entrance, quiet, safe, residential area. The room is detached from our house and has a kitchen area (no oven) with sink, cabinets, microwave, hot plate and coffee maker available. The bed is a queen size, regular bed (with box spring). There is a small refrigerator built into the wall just outside the room. Table, lounge chairs, etc. available for your use in the garden. We are happy to provide information, maps, etc. that may enhance your stay. We have been with Airbnb for a few years now, have earned "Superhost" status, have traveled a lot, have exchanged our home in the past, and enjoy providing a pleasant "home away from home" for our guests. We are located just up the hill from Montclair Village, where you can find grocery stores, retail shops and restaurants. There is easy access from here to all of the cultural and scenic attractions of San Francisco, Berkeley and the Napa-Sonoma wine country. As we are in the hills, it is a good idea to have a car. There is wifi in the room, but cell phone reception can be spotty. There is unrestricted street parking available in front of our home. You can reach downtown SF by car in about 25 minutes. If you want to travel by public transit, you can walk to the village and take a bus to San Francisco, or park your car at Rockridge BART station (less than 10 minutes from our home). Many guests have taken lyft/Uber from the house to BART station (cost bout $6-8). Our garden studio is in a great location, with easy access to all attractions of the area. It is beautiful space--perfect for someone looking for quality lodgings in a quiet, private setting. We hope you will give our beautiful garden studio a try.
  • Karen's place is a perfect spot - clean, tidy and everything you need. the neighborhood is warm, comfortable and up and away from things. a perfect little get away with a great host.

    Chad2012-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really nice two night stay in Oakland. The studio is beautiful. Little post its greeted us with instructions on how to use the lights and wifi. Paul offered to help me with my bags. The place was clean and really nicely laid out. The bed was so comfy. I really appreciated the added extras such as towels, cutlery, microwave, fridge, tv, stereo, shampoos, tea/coffee, oatmeal :) The area is safe and quiet with plenty of parking. Paul takes great care of the garden. We hadn't a chance to sit out there but it looks beautiful. I would highly recommend this place.

    Michael2016-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is wonderful. Perfect for a place to sleep and easily access Montclair and the freeway. It is more private than the photos depict. Parking was no problem. Karen and her husband are both very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

    Lindsey And Eric2013-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is a wonderful host - considerate and responsive - with a lovely studio that lives up to its description. If you don't have a car, stay here only if you are athletic (steeeeep hills) or patient (public transit not constant). The studio was pin-drop quiet and the neighbors I encountered were friendly. I hope to stay here again!

    Virginia2013-01-24T00:00:00Z

  • The private garden studio is nestled high in the Oakland hills - beautiful view, quiet, serene and adjacent to the main house sitting in the backyard of well maintained and beautiful garden. Just a heads up - cell phone reception and 4G/3G network is very very spotty (I have AT&T), and it came and went randomly. The room itself is naturally cool, there is no fan or a/c, and really little need for one. Being from New York, I found the quiet almost overwhelming (but it was great!) The kitchen features a sink in some cabinets across from the bed in the wall. There were a few nice bowls, plates and silverware. In a lower cabinet there was a microwave. At the time I stayed there, there was no refrigerator . As I was the first guest they had this may change. In addition, at this time, they do have WiFi but it cannot be accessed in the room. You must go outside to the front of the house and sit outside on a deck to get on it. There is also no TV or phone in the room The bed itself was very comfortable with lots of blankets and pillows. The bathroom had great fixtures and water pressure with lots of hot water and a great shower. The towels they provided were wonderful as well The windows had semi-transparent blinds that let in light, but as the windows face west and south the morning light did not wake me (not to mention Oakland has lots of AM fog). The downside of the blinds were a potential lack of privacy as if you had a light on in the room at night, anyone outside looking in could see you quite clearly (however, the room is in the private backyard of the house and the only people that could see would be the hosts themselves whom I doubt would ever do that). Finally, as hosts, they were great. They left us alone and provided complete privacy.

I am happy to offer a place to stay for all travelers! The room is a comfortable, cozy downstairs room with it's own entrance. It has one queen size bed and is set up hotel style with coffee maker, TV, mini fridge and microwave. The space includes an adjacent private work area, with table and seating. Closest BART train is 3 miles (5 km) and it is 16 miles (26 km) to San Francisco. Closest airport is OAK, but SFO and SJC are within an hours drive. Room ceiling is low, 6'5" (2 meters).
Morning light, comfortable bed, wardrobe and dresser, glass shower, TV, Wifi, coffee and more. It is small, and clean and airy with wood floors and it's own private entrance. The cozy private room is in the house but removed from our everyday activities and with it's own private entrance, you can make it your own while you are staying. Adjacent to the room you will find another cozy space containing microwave, mini-fridge, and table and chairs to set up your workspace, or just enjoy your coffee and news. Also, feel free to take your breakfast or your evening wine outside under the apple tree in good weather.
A quiet suburb near the freeway in Oakland near the Montclair Village District on one side and the City of Piedmont on the other. We have a wide streets with sidewalks and large city lots with a mix of single family home styles and a lot of pines, oaks and redwood trees. Walking in the neighborhood is pleasant, but be aware of blind corners since there are not sidewalks on all streets. Montclair Village has a number of shops, grocery, cafes, restaurants, a park and a couple of places to get a cocktail. It takes about 20 minutes to walk.
  • Tracy's place is a great spot for privacy and everything that one would need to comfortably sleep and shower. It's a small room and nice private bathroom and Tracy generously allowed us to use the garage to securely store our bicycles. Additionally she let us use the washing machine after our bike ride! It's a great location, private, and very comfortable.

    Stacey2018-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy was so wonderful and understanding. Her house has a beautifully serene vibe and the room is perfect for a getaway trip to the bay area. I cant stress enough how easy and stress free she made our very stressful trip. Thank you so much Tracy!

  • Tracy’s place was beyond amazing. Made us feel right at home, definitely recommend to anyone coming out to San Francisco! Super clean , and very cute space! Thank you again!!!

    Edgar2018-04-18T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy is an amazing host. Room was spotless and the coffee was great. Location and all of the amenities were top-notch. No doubt, I’m going back.

    Mark2019-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy and this stay were awesome. I expected something more urban for Oakland, but this is a beautiful suburban spot. The room is a nice basement apartment with private bath and parking. I really enjoyed Tracy's company while I was there.

    Paul2018-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, comfortable, and relaxing spot. Easy check in. A little coffee maker and tea station which was a life saver. Cable and Netflix on the tv. Perfect for us, traveling light and on a budget and just needing a homey private spot to crash at the end of the day! Thank you Tracy!

    Zachary2018-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy's Cozy Room delivers what it promises--small, clean and comfortable place for a great night's rest. Decor is beautiful -- mostly white. Comforter, sheets, sheets are so comfortable. Tracy's extra touches were greatly appreciated (coffee, tea, breakfast bars and extra towels, microwave and refrigerator). We did hear footsteps from above, but that was to be expected as in any place with an upper floor. However, it was not problem with sleeping or being awakened. The room is very clean. The driveway coming down is a little steep, but no problem with my car (a larger car would be a tight squeeze). Plenty of parking. Beautiful garden with fruit trees and birds singing. San Francisco was about 30 minutes away. Oakland only a few minutes away. Recommend visiting Oakland Museum of California, Bonsai Gardens, Japanese Garden (Lake Merritt), Mountain View Cemetary and Marcom Rose Garden. Enjoyed our stay. Thank you Tracy.

My listing is NOT near BART public transportation but walking distance to Montclair. A quick drive to downtown Oakland, Berkeley. The house is spacious and you are welcome to use the kitchen, living room, back and front yards. My house is casual in style. I have lots of books you may read and often have dvds for the t.v. but have no T.V. stations. The neighborhood is very safe and wonderful for taking walks. I have lived here for over 30 years and know the area well. . .
The living room and kitchen are yours to enjoy. Open spaces and plenty of light. Lots of books to read too. There is a back porch to eat on with old oak trees providing shade. You have a full bath right next to the room. Handicapped pathway allows you to easily roll luggage up to the front door.
This is a very safe and pleasant neighborhood. Great for taking walks ( I do allow dogs and cats to book with you!) . Very convenient for getting to the little town of MOntclair just a short walk down the hill and also very close to the Freeways 13/24 that go quickly to downtown Oakland, Berkeley, through the tunnel to Contra Costa county and also a very quick connection to San Francisco. And, Temescal park with it's lake and walking trails is just 5 min from the house.
  • Nice, comfortable place in the hills

    Marcus2017-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Jim was very pleasant and to himself... but also very willing to chat. The home and surrounding area is beautiful.

    Steven2017-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • This is great value--Montclair village is a small residential and shopping area in the Oakland hills that is quite charming. The village has plenty of restaurants, small and independent mostly, as well as a supermarket, Starbucks, a nice park and all businesses you might need. The area where Jim's house is located is hilly and wooded--you can smell the eucalyptus as soon as you get out of the car. There are views of downtown Oakland, Lake Merritt and the City from many streets in this hill area and easy access to the entire Bay Area, with Redwood Regional Park (a gem!) very close. Jim is hospitable and helpful without being intrusive and his place is indeed a great bargain for a lovely stay in this most lovely area of the East Bay.

    Kathy2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice location up in the hills. Jim is very helpful & friendly, but allows you your space. He has an interesting history & lots of knowledge. He shared some of his family history, very interesting.

  • Jim is an excellent host with a super lovely and cosy home. If you enjoy being surrounded with peaceful nature, beautiful works of art and an outstanding collection of books, and still find yourself not wanting to be too far from SF (by car), this is a great place to be. We will definitely return!

    Michael2017-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Jim’s home in the lovely hills of the Montclair section of Oakland is a quiet respite after a busy day. It is a home reflecting the peaceful serenity with which Jim lives. I will never forget returning to his home Christmas Eve to candles and stunning music of the season.

Lots of small convenience items, snacks, treats and coffee machine in the room. We were also allowed to use the great kitchen. Would love to come back if we are in the San Francisco area again.

  • Val and Lee have a beautiful home and like others said, the photos do not do it justice! Val was kind enough to give us some tips and provide us with maps and local restaurant info. It was just perfect :)

  • Beautiful house located in a nice neighborhood near downtown Berkeley. Val is a wonderful host. The bed is extremely comfortable. Bart station is within walking distance (15-20 min walk) and it's safe to walk back to the house at night. Expect a hotel like stay if you book here.

  • Hands down, by far this has been my favorite Airbnb stay. Val and Lee were extremely kind and welcoming! We loved everything about our stay. Their place was GORGEOUS and there were so many kind touches. They were very helpful in helping us learn more about the city and tips that we needed. If you wanna feel like you're in a 5 star hotel definitely the place to stay.

  • We just returned from a great two night Stay with Nancy. She is a warm and welcoming host, we felt immediately comfortable in her home which is in a beautiful residential spot up in the hills of Oakland, a short drive from Montclair. Our GPS brought us right to her front door. Her house is super clean and the room although shared with the house felt private with a comfy mattress and pillows for a good nights sleep. Nancy made us coffee in the morning and we shared some nice conversation before getting on with our day. We would definitely book with her again when we are back in Oakland.

  • Nancy’s home was a great place to stay. My girlfriend and I were staying here and visiting San Francisco. We had a car with us - parking was easy on the street and getting to the BART station took 10 minutes of driving. We enjoyed using the fully stocked kitchen to make meals. Everything was very clean and prepared upon arrival. The cat was very friendly!

  • This Montclair place was fantastic, cozy like a cabin. It's has a fantastic deck with a view and is a short drive to a wonderful tree-lined walking trail to downtown where you can get a drink/something to eat [I loved the greek place!] or nice shops, etc. Great exercise too. At any rate, it has everything you would need, and in my transition back to the Bay Area, I found it both peaceful and restful. The people who live downstairs were very sweet and accommodating too. You'll not regret staying here!
