Ride aboard a trajinera (a small, colorful boat) through the canals of Xochimilco with textile artists, learning about ancient processes of natural dyeing with vibrant flowers. • Gather at the pier for introductions, then board the boat to navigate the region’s verdant canals, home to floating gardens for thousands of years. • Learn how Indigenous Mexicans have used natural dyes made from flowers like cempasúchil in traditional clothing, popular art, and Mexican cuisine. • Receive a cotton bandana, pre-printed with a fixative paste, and use a selection of these flower-based dyes to decorate it with your own designs. As it dries, enjoy light snacks and mezcal while slowly gliding back to our departure point. Uncover the heart and soul of México in Xochimilco

You will learn about local and ancient traditions while we cook together a local delicacy in a traditional boat in the idyllic Xochimilco canals. At 9:30 am we will pick you up at your stay if is a private group or in a midpoint if there are two or more groups on the reservation, from there a private transport will drive you to central Xochimilco. After I welcome you with a traditional coffee at Dalia (a women cultural collective coffee shop) we will walk to Xochimilco farmers market to choose fresh vegetables for our lunch. From there we will aboard a pedicab, a local transport that will take us to the pier to board a Trajinera (traditional colorful boat) to start exploring the mesmerizing canals. You will understand how ancient pre-Columbian communities lived in harmony with nature and while we talk about our present traditions, we will cook (and then eat) a local delicacy, a tamal called Tlapique paired with toritos (fruit juice with mezcal). Before we end our journey, we will visit an Axolotl sanctuary. Axolotls are Xochimilco´s endemic salamanders, listed as a endanger species and used extensively in scientific research due to their ability to regenerate limbs, gills and brains.
