13 Vasa is a spacious 3 bedroom family home in the centre of Kirkwall. It is located a very short walk from the town centre. The town centre bus stops right outside the property and I believe it has a frequent timetable which can be found on the stagecoach website. The property is situated in a lovely housing area with fantastic local amenities. A large shop is a minutes walk and it’s open until quite late. There is also a large grass play area which the property looks onto. The park is a great place to play. We recently enjoyed a game of rounders there with friends and enjoyed a BBQ at the house. As a family who enjoy traveling, the house is equip with everything you could need. It’s a lovely house which we recently had a little holiday in ourselves. The children didn’t want to come back to our house as the park was such a lovely addition to their lives. Vasa is a quiet area and we are fortunate to have lovely neighbours there.
  • Very nice very comfortable

  • This is a spacious, comfortable house with great facilities, well located to explore Mainland and travel to other islands. We stayed five days. The kitchen had everything we wanted for self catering (except a coffee plunger). Plenty of cutlery and crockery, pots and pans. The full-size oven and stove-top meant we could cook anything we wanted. There is a choice of good supermarkets a short drive away. The house was warm, and it was easy to adjust the temperature if we wanted. The Internet was solid and reasonably fast. The bed was large and comfortable. It was easy to find, following the instructions, and check-in with the key safe was straightforward. Parking was always easy in the little car park out the back door.

  • House was in a good location, not too far from the centre of Kirkwall. The place was lovely and clean and some nice little touches were added also! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend to others. Orkney is an amazing place to visit with lots of fun and interesting things to do and see :)

  • Great house, pictures don’t do it enough justice as it really is a lovely homely house. Karen and Gary are great hosts and sorted out anything we asked for. Our children loved playing at the house and they even had little friends roughly same age which made this stay absolutely 5 stars. A pleasure to stay there.

  • Dear Garry, Karen and Family Thank you for such a warm welcome. Thank you for such a wonderful surprise of Orkney Hamper (Orkney produce) and Wine to welcome me. As you know I was travelling for work. I really appreciate all the extra thought you put in to your freshly decorated warm comfortable new home. I felt very welcome In a home from home amongst friends. The flowers were so pretty and made the house smell so fresh like being in the countryside. Although you are in the countryside. You have an amazing large spacious home with a fantastic kitchen full of all the utensils, I needed to cook. Your whole house was immaculate and so fresh and clean. Even you children and pets were so well behaved. Your youngest son was so funny. I was really happy to meet your children when you showed me around your beautiful property. It is so near all the shops local amenities and theatre. Having the play park just outside your back garden is great for families. The umbrella and sitting area in the back for eating outside in your back garden is a lovely touch for your guests. Also I found the car park huge. Thank you again. We will see you soon with my family. Kindest Regards Highly Recommended excellent value and so clean. I will be back. :)

Eastbank House is a quietly situated Georgian house, close to the centre of town. We offer single, double and triple en suit rooms. The rooms are quiet and peaceful with towels and bedding provided. Each room has it's own small but private toilet and shower.
The house was built in 1824 as a family house and we have converted it into a friendly meeting place for travellers of all ages.
We are situated close to the town centre of Kirkwall. The closest shops are just a short drive or 5 minute walk from here. The town offers cozy cafes, restaurants, pubs, a weekend night club as well as a tourist information, bus depot and ferry transport to the outer isles.
  • Great location. Friendly host. Perfect for a short stay.

  • This was my second time staying at Malcolms. He kindly picked my up from the ferry terminal and dropped my off in the center in the morning, as I had a heavy suitcase. Lovely all day breakfast offered as well. Malcolm is very helpful with anything you need. Room was lovely and cosy and quite spacious. Amazing stay

  • You will find a very helpful and well informed host in Malcolm at East Bank hostel. The house is situated within an easy walk of the centre of Kirkwall. I had a comfortable single room with en suite bathroom. Renovations are almost complete in the large kitchen, which is well equipped for self catering. This is a great hostel to stay in while you explore the wonderful Orkney Islands.

    Pauline2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm is an excellent host who will do everything he can possibly do to make sure your stay goes as you would wish.

    Timothy 2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Genial host, private space, but with the opportunity to mix with other guests if you wish. Close to everything and on a bus route, but nice and quiet.

    Dawn2019-12-14T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm very kindly let me check in at the last minute when my ferry was canceled and was an excellent host.

    Allie2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you want 5* accom, then dont stay, but if you want 3*+ accom and local info that is not often given at 5* hotels, then consider Malcolms place. He offered and I accepted him picking me up at 11pm at the ferry, and dropping me back 4 days later for the 11.45pm ferry. He, and other guests were there to help and be involved with my stay, or leave me to my devices at other times. In other words I was able to feel what Orkney life was all about. The bed was great, the shower hot in my own en-suite, the full use of the kitchen and endless coffee / toast / fruit, was the tipping point to this being a great experience.

    Hayden2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place, just a short walk from the centre. The kitchen was a little messy cause he is renovating and looks it’s gonna be a very nice one :)

Brockan is a spacious recently refurbished 3 bedroom house with fresh colours and has a high standard of fixtures .The house has a large living room with large widows and Panoramic views of Marwick and Marwick bay. You can take your dog here to stay.Sometimes the cows in the field will come and say hello to you ( don’t worry as there are fences). You can enjoy an evening on the patio with a BBQ while watching the spectacular sunsets. In winter you may get a show of the Northern Lights.
The Kitchen has a gas hob for cooking on and a electric oven .
There is a house accross the road which also is holiday accommodation. The rest of the house is surrounded by fields and farmland close to the sea.
  • We loved our stay at Brockan. The house is warm and comfortable, with wonderful views over the bay. The sea and the weather change all the time, so it's very relaxing sitting and watching the views. We also really liked the fact that there are excellent walks straight from the house, we went along the cliffs, to the Brough of Birsay. But if you're fit and the weather is good, you can probably easily walk to Skaill. The house is very well equipped, with utility room and airing cupboard (great for winter walking), plus very good kitchen too. Joan was amazingly helpful and friendly. We would love to go back.

    Jane2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for three nights here and can't wait to come back. The cottage has everything you need and more. It is warm, cozy with comfy beds. There is a beautiful bay near 5 mins from the house and great walks.

  • Staying at Joan's house, Brockan, was one of our best AirBnB experiences. Joan has been very thoughtful in equipping and deorating the house and we wanted for nothing. The ornaments did not swallow up all the useful surfaces like in some places but genuinely enhanced the living areas. She even got in a full size living Christmas tree and decorated it just for us. We were touched. She also responds right away to queries. The wind was blowing at 40mph often during our stay and the house was always warm and quiet with no draughts. There is a fantastic utility room inside the back door for hanging wet gear, changing shoes and sanitising a mucky dog. The sitting room has two full size couches for lounging on and views of the sea from one window and the surrounding hills from the other. The kitchen had absolutely everything we needed. The location of Marwick is close to the Marwick cliffs, which are stuffed with nesting fulmars and guillemots in summer, Marwick beach, the brough of Birsay, Skaill Bay and Skara Brae. The house feels very rural yet Isbister's General Store is two or three miles away and the Dounby Coop is only a few more, Stromness is about 20 minutes by car and Kirkwall is about 30. And give Orkney a try in the winter months! You practically have the area to yourself and there is a lot of natural drama to be seen on windswept beaches and clifftop walks with a cosy home to return to at the end of the day.

  • A lovely cottage in the north-west if the mainland. Perfectly located for the sights in the West and North. At the right time of year, I'd think puffins could be seen within a 15 minute walk from the cottage! You can even see the old man of Hoy from the coast nearby. The cottage is lovely and warm. Thanks, Stu

  • Peacefull house in a beautifull place.

  • One of the best Airbnb experiences or travel experiences I have ever had!! Such a beautiful spot and home. The sun room views of the farms and bay below are with me forever. The view every morning of the bay from bed is amazing. And Joan has provided everything you could possibly need. Even a lemon squeezer - a first for me after many many vacation stays over the years. Orkney is so wonderful and the hikes right outside your door are incredible. Be sure to hike down to the bay and then up over the hillside cliffs to the Memorial Tower above. The views of the cliffs and sea birds are stunning and you can see all the way to the Birsay lighthouse. And all of the Neolithic and other sights you want to see are a short drive away. I could live in this wonderful house and be happy and comfortable forever. Thanks Joan!

  • We had a wonderful time staying at Ruth’s place-it is exactly as described and we felt very comfortable. Ruth was out of town during our stay and still made sure the apartment was all ready for us and responded almost immediately to my questions so we felt totally taken care of, even from a distance! The location is perfect for exploring the Neolithic sites and a ten minute drive from Kirkwall. Highly recommend! Thanks so much for your warm hospitality, Ruth, and wishing you all the best!

  • Clean room and private bathroom facilities. Ruth was an excellent host with good knowledge of things to see and do and was very helpful and went above and beyond to assist me when I had to change my ferry booking due to a change in circumstance. The location was great as was a good base for getting around the island with my car. Would definitely recommend.

  • Sparkling clean, modern spacious, and just of main road. Only 5 or 10 minutes from town. Central for touring the main Island.

  • Finstown might be a bit small compared to Kirkwall, but it is in a very central location on Mainland so it's quite easy to reach all the big sightseeing spots and get around the island in general. The room and the big bathroom were both very nice and clean. Amanda made us feel very welcome and we had some very nice chats with her during our stay. If you want to experience the real Orkneys away from all the hectic tourists this is it. Oh and don't forget to check out Leigh's food truck!

  • A clean accommodation with modern amenities. Strong WiFi signal. The location is very convenient for exploring the western side of the Main Island of Orkney.

    Michael2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Grace's place really felt like a little home to us. The whole place is really cozy, spacious, warm and clean with lots of little touches that made our life easy like soft towels, coffee in the cabinet, little milk in the fridge, comfy mattress and pillows and I could go on! The location is also great and very safe and quiet! You get fantastic views of sunset from the window and it is really close 10-20 mins from the main bits like Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae, Yesnaby, Stones of Stennes, Maeshowe etc. Grace was an excellent host to us from quick replies, advice as well as meeting us to show us around the house. We will definitely come and stay again next time we are in Orkney.

    Michael2019-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Grace was a lovely and welcoming host. Our ferry had been running late but she was very understanding and responded quickly to our messages letting her know. She also kindly assured us that if we needed anything that she stayed nearby so to just pop round! The kitchen was very clean and well-stocked with cooking essentials (oil, salt, tea, coffee etc) and what appeared to be some pretty new cooking equipment. We really enjoyed making use of the toasty machine for our lunches! The living room had various games and, being a group of students who had just come up for the Folk Festival after exams, we really appreciated just vegging out and watching Netflix on the big TV between concerts. All in all, we had a lovely stay and would definitely come back!

    Jennifer2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Grace is so welcoming and her home has everything you would need, a book full of information and thing to see and do & lots of fun games, colouring books writing pads. Grace really does go above and beyond to make your stay Amazing....

Very well appointed, sparkling clean, and exceeded my expectations! Breakfasts were delightful with everything I needed! Great communication. Convenient parking. Very highly recommended!!!

Susanne send me an introductory message to make sure all was in order before my arrival and was there to meet me and get me settled in to her beautiful home. • Beautiful home, very comfortable, large room -en suite! Great location with a breathtaking view of the harbor. Mere minutes walk from the ferry and right next to the local bus stop. Shona was a wonderful host! Recommended!

    Tom2018-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We (Alfie, an Irish Setter) enjoyed our stay. The position of the property is on the bay, and could see the Pentland ferry dock, and leave the harbour. Easy free parking for the car. Shop/post office across the road. The building is substantial, and had been a pub. It was very well insulated. Our room- fully equipped, comfortable bed, and pillows. Own front door key, and bedroom key. Shared large kitchen- every thing there to cook with. I self catered, but across the road was a pub, with a good menu if I had wanted to use it. Would recommend it for- individuals, back packers, couples, and families. Shona seemed to have thought of every thing to help her guests have a great stay. Hope to stay at "The Anchorage" again. (missing it already). Ed (and Alfie dog).

  • Super nice host, great view and good location (easy to travel by bus)

    Kira2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was ideal for our purposes. We were a group of four plus our well behaved dog. Hannah's communication was excellent and we were able to find the house and settle in with no problems. There is lots of local information and the rooms are all spacious, comfortable, clean and warm. We really enjoyed sitting around the kitchen table or chatting in the living room. The views from the property are wonderful and the location is very handy for the ferry and for getting into the main town. It is a great base for exploring all across the islands with fresh air, peace and quiet in abundance. Hannah was great at keeping in touch. We highly recommend and would love to go back one day.

  • Fantastic spacious place, so comfy and warm. Lovely new carpets. Everywhere was so clean and the location was ideal as it was only ten minutes from the ferry. Views are amazing and a fantastic sandy beach only a mile away. We loved Orkney and this place made it very special. I am already booking up with Hannah to come back next month!

The cottage is in a quiet rural area 10 minute walk from stromness pier head. There is panoramic views with the island of hoy and the Atlantic to the west and wild country side and farmland in the east. There is also a large mature garden which houses some hens. It is also well situated for walker's as in every direction is a nice walk. Weaverhall is in a beautiful secluded area but all local amenities are easily accessible.
Our comfortable cottage is set in a stunning area and has a private garden for your use. The cottage is well equipped for your stay with a shower room, combined washer/tumble drier, cooking facilities and equipment. All towels and bedding are provided. WiFi access is also available.
  • We stayed at Weaverhall Cottage in March 2020 and had a fantastic time in this accommodation. Neil pre arranged to meet us in Stromness to guide us to the cottage as it was a bit tricky to find on google maps. The cottage was clean, in a great location if you have a car, and had stunning views over the island of Hoy.

    Danny2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Neil is a wonderful host, we had an amazing time. A small traditional cottage in a unique setting with stunning views.

  • Nice little cottage with a stunning view! But its good to have a car(:

    Tessa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at this cottage. There are gorgeous views over the sea, and lovely walks nearby. The cottage had everything we needed for a self catering trip and was really cosy with lots of nice touches! Ingrid and Neil were very helpful and so accommodating. Excellent hosts and we would definitely stay again (Probably in summer though! 😂)

    Alison2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Neil's house. It was really cosy and homely in the evenings with stunning views during the day. A short walk to Stromness (though I'd bring a torch for the evenings if you are walking back) and a thoroughly pleasant place to unwind after your day. Would stay again.

A bright bedroom in a comfortable modern house set in a rural yet convenient location with stunning views.
The bedroom is next to the family bathroom which is shared with one other bedroom, there is also a further toilet downstairs. We have a lounge that we keep exclusively for guest use, equipped with a large tv or you may choose to simply appreciate the view! We have now added a hot tub available for guest use, ideal way to relax after a full day sightseeing! Conveniently situated to maximise the stunning views towards the Hoy Hills. There is tea, coffee and milk available along with basic continental breakfast of cereal, yoghurt and fruit served from our kitchen.
Although we are situated in a rural location there is a co-op, pharmacy, post office in the local Village of Dounby which is 5 min drive or a 20 min leisurely walk. We are also lucky to have two fab hotels (Merkister and Smithfield) serving lunches and dinners using local produce again both can be reached 5 mins by car or 20 mins walk. Both Kirkwall or Stromness can be reached in 20 mins by car. We are conveniently located to explore all of the Neolithic sites that Orkney has to offer.
  • I wish I could have checked all the boxes about sparkling cleanliness, amazing amenities, thoughtful touches, etc. Amanda's place is well situated to see many of the historical and natural sites on the Mainland Island. The place was warm and peaceful. When I read the listing I thought it was too good to be true, but it is true!

    Julia2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • You will not be disappointed, this is a beautiful house with a beautiful view of Orkney. Very relaxed, comfortable facility and the owners are lovely. Already looking for excuses to go back!

  • A wonderful place to stay! Modern, attractive and sparkling clean house with beautiful views over the surrounding area. A fantastic host who is very welcoming, friendly and helpful sharing lots of information about the area, events and places to visit or eat.

    Linsey2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The second part of our stay at Amanda’s was just as enjoyable as the first and we finally visited the archeological sites nearby which were amazing for us as we work in heritage. We were most looking forward to a comfy bed after a decent shower seeing as we’d been staying in a hostel for the week before. Such a beautiful base to return to and very central for our taste of the Island.

    Louise2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! We loved it - clean, affordable and good location

    Mira2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding hospitality at such a lovely place. We got lots of local tips on the best places to go and ticked everything off on our list. As Amanda explained before we arrived, own transport is a must if you want to travel around like we did - or it would have been a wonderful place to have a relaxing break if you plan to stay put for a while. Really comfortable and relaxing stay with lovely attention to detail. We definitely would recommend Mara Lodge and would look at staying again, in fact we stayed twice within 2 weeks either side of travelling to North Ronaldsay for the Sheep Festival.

    Louise2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was a really lovely stay, with a warm Welcome and caring Hosts. Also the place is amazing for daytrips.

  • If your looking for a place to stay in Orkney I can't reccomend further. located in a great location. Host Is friendly and quick to respond to any queries you may have. Her dog Luna is also a pleasure as well, very well behaved. The place itself is nice and clean and all amenities are free and easy to use.

    Gareth2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • I had a comfortable and welcoming stay at Stacey's house, which is well-situated in a new residential area about 15-20 minutes' walk from the town centre. Stacey was very helpful and accommodating (and I enjoyed meeting Luna the dog!). Will definitely consider staying again when next in Orkney!

    Mathew2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed with Stacey for 4 days and had a fantastic time. Stacey is very welcoming and friendly, and Luna (the dog) is such a lovely dog. The place is only a short walk from town and really easy to get to.

    Patricia2019-07-11T00:00:00Z
  • Stacey was very accommodating as a host and very quick to respond to messages, I arrived coming off the ferry from Aberdeen and was new to the island, so the provision of local taxi numbers to book ahead of landing went a long way in putting my mind at ease in terms of travel and arrival. The room itself is as described and I had no issues with any of the facilities. Perhaps my only ‘complaint’ would be the length of the bed, although this is to be expected coming from a man measuring in at 6’1”. I was also invited to use what I needed in the kitchen. As mentioned in the description of the accommodation, the house is also home to a wonderful young lady by the name of Luna. While sceptical of my presence at first, she did not take very long to come around to the idea of me being around. I did not get to spend very much time in the house during the day as I was kept fairly busy for most of the trip, however I was provided with access to the house whenever I pleased for the duration of my stay. In terms of location, the house is not that far out from the town, I myself tend to travel on foot, so to find that the town centre was less than a mile away was great. It’s also worth mentioning that there is a complex of shops on the way into town from the house including a Tesco, Lidl and Co-op.

    Jamie2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay in Orkney, walking distance to Kirkwall and Pickaquoy centre. The house is beautiful, tidy and clean with everything you would need for cooking and washing, plus sky TV, great wifi connection, lots of parking space outside etc. Room is small, with desk and comfortable bed. Stacey is a fabulous host very warm and welcoming, made me feel at home and was quick to reply to messages - it was great to stay with her. Also special mention to Luna who is a lovely and placid dog - the sweetest thing, and always made me smile when she would say hello in the kitchen every morning.

An beautiful old fisherman’s house built with the help of salvaged ships beams and masts, Harbour Cottage is one of Stromness’ original houses pre-dating any modern record keeping. Sitting on the harbour front and directly across from the ferry terminal, and just meters from Stromness town centre – Harbour Cottage really is in the heart of this beautiful town known as The Venice of The North.
Step inside Harbour Cottage and you’ll find a beautifully refurbished and unique house, with a separate kitchen/dining room leading to a sitting room with w/c and shower room downstairs. Upstairs are two double bedrooms with one overlooking the harbour front.
Orkney will immerse you in its rich tapestry of dramatic landscapes, amazing sunsets, stunning flora and fauna all mixed in with a rich culture 5,000 years in the making. Add this to one of the richest archaeological landscapes anywhere in the world, the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site, then you know you have arrived in a place like no other. From the spectacular and iconic Ring of Brodgar, to Maeshowe – the finest Neolithic tomb in Northern Europe, or the Neolithic settlement of Skara Brae – one of the best preserved groups of prehistoric houses in Western Europe, Orkney Apartments puts on the doorstep of Neolithic Orkney. You can even visit the live dig at The Ness of Brodgar – recently featured nationally on the BBC as well as the front cover of National Geographic magazine, this 3 hectare site filled with massive stone structures containing unique and spectacular finds is without parallel in Europe. On your doorstep is Stromness – ‘the haven inside the bay’ – with its beautiful stone piers leading from a cobbled street uncoiling like a sailors rope along the seafront, Harbour Cottage will provide you with an idyllic setting and perfect location to base your stay. We look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful islands.....

We are also happy to store bikes/camping/fishing/shooting equipment in our garage if required, just ask.
The caravan is ideally located to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside yet it is only a 10-15 minute walk from the town centre - of course even less by car or bicycle. The views are simply outstanding, overlooking the town, towards Orphir, over the island of Graemsay towards Hoy, right down Scapa Flow and out over the Pentland Firth towards mainland Scotland. Watch the fleet of dive boats head out Scapa Flow each morning and the Northlink passenger ferry “Hamnavoe” pass by the window throughout the day. We are surrounded by farmland with cows, sheep and crops - the cows can be quite inquisitive so don’t be alarmed to open the curtains in the morning to have one peeping in! And just a stones throw from Warbeth Beach with fantastic walks right on the door step. More than often, you’ll have the beach all to yourself. Stromness is a vibrant town with a population of around 2000. It is famous for its windy cobbled streets and waterfront houses, many of which have been there for over 300 years. There are 3 hotels and 3 pubs. The restaurants serve the best of Orkney’s fresh produce - the seafood will probably have been landed by one of the local fishermen that same day! The beef and cheese are world famous, not to mention Highland Park whisky and our ever growing range of local gins. There is a butcher, baker, deli and a couple of “peedie” cafes. It is well connected by a regular public bus service and a foot passenger ferry which runs daily to the islands of Graemsay and Hoy.
  • For peacefulness, tranquility and incredible views you'll find this place hard to beat. I absolutely loved my stay here and already planning to come back. The caravan itself is ever so slightly dated so dont expect a brand new one, but its spacious, ram packed with all the home comfort things and utensils you could ever need and the bed and the sofas are super comfy so what more could you ask for? I've already mentioned the views, but honestly, wow, they're something special! I could sit and look out the bay windows all day. 100% recommend.

  • We loved staying in Lois' caravan which has breathtaking views over the sea and Hoy beyond, words aren't enough, incredible. Loved watching the ferry going back and forth, the calves in the field below having a tussle with the ram, the weather changing, the light house and scapa flow beyond. We had a magical week on Orkney, so much to do, history, beautiful beaches, delicious local produce and very friendly. Lois was very discreet but immediately there to help if needed. Thank you so much.

  • The Braehead caravan is a great place to stay! The accomodation was very clean and everything we needed was there. Beautiful views from the living room windows. Highly recommended.

  • Such a lovely place and what a view! Super well equipped caravan, we are a family of four and had a great time. You have everything you need for a comfortable stay. A tip: ask Lois for directions to the caravan as the postal code and the google maps took us close but not quite there. Many thanks Lois.

  • A comfortable caravan at a splendid place with a fabulous view and good accessibility to the centre of Stromness (whilst Stromness is generally a good base for exploring particularly the sites at Orkney Mainland). Great amenities including a gas heater/fireplace which allows to warm up the place nicely. Lois' was an amazing, swiftly and helpfully communicating host. Overall, an outstanding ABnB experience worthy of recommendation.

  • Fantastically quaint caravan. And what a lovely cosy space, particularly the lounge with amazing views. We enjoyed our stay very much and Lois was incredibly helpful.

The house is situated in the picturesque town of Stromness and just a 3-5 min drive from the ferry. If you are on foot we will try to collect you if time permits with work. We are situated in a very quiet residential area. You will be greeted by our friendly Labrador Kassie as well as us. Everything is within walking distance, the shops, hotels, swimming pool, and the bus stop is just 1 minute from the house. There is also room for parking in our drive.
You have your own private sittingroom/bedroom with door lock The downstairs toilet is for your sole use when staying, the family will use the other upstairs. There is lots of information on places to see and where to go whilst visiting Orkney in your room. There are tea and coffee facilities in your room also with the option of a self serve continental breakfast of cereal, toast, tea and coffee in the family kitchen in the mornings.
We are in a lovely quiet safe neighbourhood.
  • This AirBnB is extremely comfortable and is well located near the harbour in Stromness. Lynn made us very welcome, even meeting us from the ferry in the pouring rain. From there we were easily able to explore Orkney using a hired car , from a local garage.

  • Nia-Roo is a great stay on a remarkable island. Lynn and her capable assistants provide a welcoming and attractive stay. The room has 2 comfortable leather lounges and the bed is very good. The windows are double glazed and the entrance has the traditional double doors. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The location is good for travel to Skara Brae UNESCO locations because it’s 20 minutes drive closer than Kirkwall. It’s a pleasant 10 minute walk along the harbour to Stromness town centre. Both pubs I tried (the Stromness Hotel and the Ferry Inn) offered very good food and service. There are also good shops and cafes in Stromness. I found great coffee each day at the Bayleaf Delicatessen. To top it off the Stromness Museum is an absolute gem.

  • Great welcome and great place to stay in Stromness. Large, clean bedroom and use of excellent bathroom, plus breakfast. Highly recommend.

  • Lynn provided an excellent space for a weary cyclist to relax after a day riding into a gale force headwind. The room was homely, and ideal to relax in. Lynn made sure I was settled in and provided ample tea. The house is situate about 5 minutes cycle from the ferry terminal, so is ideal for people arriving or leaving the island.

Situated close to the beach with views of the Old Man of Hoy and on to Scotland's north coast
Detached property, ample off street parking. Huge double bedroom with TV, wifi, relaxed seating along with breakfast table, mini fridge, snacks and tea/ coffee facilities. The en suite is fitted with a large shower as well as a separate bath.
We are located a few seconds walk from the beach at Marwick bay and a few minutes walk from Kitchener Memorial and the sea bird colonies of Marwick Head. If you like history then a few miles north are the remains of the 11th century Orkney Viking capital on the Brough of Birsay and a few miles south is the world famous Neolithic settlement of Scara Brae in the picturesque bay of Skaill.
  • Wonderful stay! Only one regret: not having been able to stay there more than one night. The house is superb and the bedroom is actually more of a large studio with a small kitchen area (microwave and fridge). The view of the bay from the bed is just perfect! In addition, Angela and Simon are adorable and ready to share good addresses or places to see. They take great care while leaving great independence. One of the best Airbnb experiences we have had. If we return to Orkney, this is where we will stay without hesitation.

    Leila2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Delightful. Stillness. Comfy. Absolute nice 🤗☀️

    Agate2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far the best Airbnb my husband and I had ever stayed in. Angela's place was so stylish and comfortable, with amazing views — we could even see the Old Man of Hoy from our room! Simon and Angela were also very responsive and we were able to reach their place ok. Thanks again for the amazing stay! We'd love to go back.

    McKenzie2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had a very lovely stay at Simon and Angela’s house. The place is beautiful and in a stunning part of Orkney with amazing views. Lots to do near by and simon was very knowledgeable and friendly to give us tips. Wish we could have stayed longer!! Thank you

    Hamish2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay and wish we could give more stars than 5. The room was spotless and had everything we could need. Simon went out of his way to drive us to Stromness in the morning (we were traveling via bike and it was a rainy, windy morning!) and show us some interesting historical sites and history. Thank you so much!!

    Nora2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • We were Angela and Simon’s first guests and we were completely blown away by our experience in their home. There are views of the ocean and Old Man of Hoy and Kitchener’s memorial through beautiful skylights and Shetland ponies just outside. The space is truly gorgeous-giant windows and comfy bed, an excellent shower and bath tub (best hot shower and bath we’ve had in awhile!), also a kettle, toaster and small fridge which we greatly appreciated for storing our road trip groceries. Above all, Angela and Simon were hugely welcoming and made us feel right at home, but left us total privacy to enjoy the quiet night in that we needed. But you could also walk right down to the ocean/do lots of exploring from their place! In short, we couldn’t recommend staying with them more. If you’re looking for a gorgeous, peaceful place from which to explore the Orkneys with accommodating hosts who have all the local knowledge you could hope for, look no further. Thank you again, Angela and Simon-wishing you the very best!

Family run holiday accommodation in the Orkney Islands Situated just ten minutes from the main town of Kirkwall, this sympathetically renovated Orkney farmhouse has been converted into three self catering apartments. Each apartment has been finished to a high standard with underfloor heating beneath tiled floors downstairs and quality solid hardwood floors upstairs ensuring that the house is always cosy. Find us on Facebook Kingsdale Holiday Apartments email kingsdaleholidays@hotmail.com
The ground floor features a large kitchen with an arched window giving panoramic views of Orkney farmland. The fully equipped kitchen with a table and chairs leads through to a larger dining area with a double sided woodburning stove which also serves the lounge area. The lounge area also has comfortable seating and a smart TV. There are double doors leading off the dining area to a paved patio with picnic table. The central stairway leads off the dining area to the 3 bedrooms and bathroom located upstairs. There are two double rooms each with king size beds, built in wardrobes and ensuite toilet, wash hand basin and shower. There is also a twin bedded room next to the main bathroom which has modern fitted units and a shower over the bath. The Farmhouse has lockable adjoining doors to The Barn so that both can be booked together to make a larger 4 bedroom apartment with a double sofabed in The Barn's living area.
Kingsdale is nestled beneath Keelylang Hill and is a haven for bird watchers. You can regularly spot Hen Harriers, Short Eared Owls, and Kestrels which nest on the surrounding hillside. Kingsdale apartments are approximately 2 miles from the village of Finstown and 5 miles from Kirkwall, the main town in Orkney. Within a mile from the apartments you can explore Cuween Hill Cairn and Wideford Cairn, with the more well known Maeshowe only 5 miles away. The world heritage site Skara Brae is 10 miles away.
  • Great location for exploring Orkney. Property was very clean and cosy. Great layout which made it very sociable. Information about the property prior to our trip was excellent and Robert responded very quickly to all enquiries we made. Would highly recommend.

    Elaine2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, son, and I stayed at the Farmhouse for four nights at the end of September. It’s a beautifully renovated space, very warm and comfortable. The beds were comfy and hanging out after dinner in the living room was very pleasant. If I had one minor complaint to make, I would just say that the reading lights in the bedroom and living room were a bit inadequate. Luckily we all brought headlamps with us and so could use them to read by. The woodstove in the living room was all loaded up with wood and kindling, but the radiant heat system in the house made it cozy, so we never fired up the stove. Other plusses were the well-equipped laundry room with two washers and two dryers… a nice kitchen with a modern stove, oven, and dishwasher… and the quiet beauty of the setting. It was only a quick 4 mile drive to Kirkwall. Orkney rocks as a beautiful and interesting destination, And the Farmhouse was definitely the nicest place we stayed at during our two week visit in Scotland.

    Andrew2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great accommodation centrally located on mainland Orkney. Well equipped and beautifully set out apartment with excellent laundry facilities available. Great outdoor space around accommodation. Would highly recommend these apartments to anyone travelling to Orkney.

  • Fantastic place, central location on the island, beautiful and quiet farmyard all around. About 10 min drive to Kirkwall or Scara Bray

    Igor2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place for getting to know Orkney, well placed for exploring the mainland or just sitting in the garden enjoying watching the sheep! A warm welcome from extremely friendly and responsive hosts. Perfect for our family visit with three under 10s with toys, books and games in the house - as well the excitement of watching Robert and the sheepdogs out in the field or the bunnies outside the front door! We stayed an extra night and hope to be back...

    Sarah2019-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Robert's house will be like an home for you! The kitchen has an amazing view and everything in the house is well organized to make you relax, expecially after an excursion on Orkney islands. This house is very classy, we really recommend it!

  • This was a treasure. We came off the ferry around 11pm...Ian and Fiona had been in touch all along and were waiting for us as we drove in. We were exhausted and they were a ray of sunshine, so welcoming and wonderful. The bedroom was spectacular...spacious, clean, and silent. Lovely large brilliantly clean bathroom, and loads of goodies for breakfast. I would indeed recommend the home of this lovely couple and look forward to staying there again. Thank you Ian and Fiona!

The nearby village of Dounby has everything you could need and the house is easy to get to. The space is really lovely and it’s great to take a soak in the hot tub after a day of hiking in the Orkney weather. Best of all, Amanda and Neil are accommodating and kind hosts - with great local tips!

    Louisa2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • We felt so welcomed at Amanda’s, there is no word strong enough to describe how much we loved our stay. The house is very well designed, clean and tidy. The bedroom was big enough, the bed comfortable, and the bedsheets were so soft we had a hard time getting out of bed! The brand new spa with that great view was amazing after a long day. We had more than we expected. Amanda even nicely let us use their bbq. She had very good advises as well. No hesitations, go there! You won’t be disappointed.

The house is 1 mile outside Finstown, in a quiet country setting. There are lovely views across to the Stenness and Harray Lochs. Finstown is on the main road between Stromness and Kirkwall.
The bedroom, has a new king-size bed (2019). Guests have a private bathroom, which is opposite the bedroom. You have the sole use of the sun lounge to relax in. All guest accommodation is on the ground floor (the hosts live upstairs). Outside there is a large garden with a sheltered seating area for guests to enjoy. A continental style breakfast is offered (cereal, yogurt, fruit, croissants, Scottish morning rolls or homemade wholemeal bread, as well as Orkney cheese and oatcakes). Tea and coffee is available in the bedroom. When you book, we are full!
We enjoy living in a quiet cluster of houses with open views. Finstown has a local shop and a garage for fuel. The house is centrally located for many of Orkney's attractions. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is within 5 miles. Kirkwall and Stromness are both about 7 miles away, where there are plenty of places to eat out. It is advisable to book a table in some of the more popular places. Finstown is on the St Magnus Way, a popular established pilgrimage walk, which has a downloadable app. I would be happy to pick you up or drop you of at the waymarker stone in Finstown.
  • Amanda was a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome in her beautiful home. I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting a stunning holiday in the Orkneys.

    Lucinda2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Amanda’s place right in the middle of Neolithic Orkney. Initially we wanted to leave with the early ferry the next morning, but then delayed our departure to the afternoon - meanwhile Amanda was great supporting us, whatever plan we had, and even figuring out breakfast options for an almost night time check-out, if needed. We really appreciated that she was so flexible. Responses were really fast. Her hint to book Maeshowe in advance was valuable. Breakfast was delicious and the view sitting at the breakfast table fabulous and much inspirational! We enjoyed our conversation with Amanda at breakfast a lot. Amanda sells some little hand crafted things and we bought one of her painted Neolithic Orkney Panoramas on a postcard for less than you would usually pay at gift shop - and it will always remind us of the good times we had at her place and the Orkneys. Amanda is an outstanding host! Highly recommended!

    Clarissa2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Amanda’s place. She was super thorough about getting us everything we might have needed, including info about sightseeing and food recommendations. Her house is in a great spot on Orkney, convenient both to Kirkwall/distilleries and to the main prehistoric sites. Great bang for buck compared to hotels in the area that charge twice as much for significantly less comfortable accommodations.

    Carrie2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely room with own bathroom and private living room in Amanda’s home - I loved the underfloor heating and the spacious bathroom.

    Debbie2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda's house is warm, elegant and welcoming! She and her husband really made us feel at home. It's the perfect place to visit Mainland.

    Claudia2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amanda's house is modern, warm, light-filled, comfortable and SO nice! Amanda welcomed us and we felt at home straight off. We had a lovely bedroom, modern spacious bathroom, and a reading/relaxing room to ourselves. Breakfast was superb. Wonderful views at this rural setting. Car parking at the door. Honestly, we cannot recommend highly enough.

    Bill2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely experience with Amanda, her house was very beautiful, peaceful, clean and stylish. She concerned about having everything perfect (breakfast included) to make our stay better, she even helped us to plan our trip to Island of Hoy, calling a local driver to pick us up there. Amanda was the best host of the whole 15 days of trip in Scotland. We would love to visit Orkney again and we have no doubt that we will repeat with her. Thanks a lot.

    Marina2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a good time with Amanda... everything is perfect! The location is excellent to discover the main island, the room and the bathroom are perfectly clean, the bed is really comfy and the place so quiet! The breakfast is huge (with the bread home made) and the view amazing. Amanda is the perfect host, really lovely to chat with, give you excellent advices, and leave you some space and privacy. I highly recommend!!!

Note with AB&B it may be cheaper to book for 1 week than for a  6-night stay. ( just the way that AB&B discounts work) even if you don't stay for the 7 nights.
Sandstone is a 4 star visit Scotland graded self catering one bedroom apartment situated in the town of Stromness, all on the ground floor with no steps inside the apartment and with its own private door and ample private parking right outside.
Here in Stromness we have a good selection of restaurants, cafes and pubs all serving a wide variety of local produce, along the main flagstone/ cobbled street there are craft shops and gallery’s selling a range of Orkney designs, paintings, jewellery, knitwear, pottery etc. Stromness is the second largest town in Orkney but definitely the most quaint and full of character and with the Hoy Hills and Brinkies Brae as the backdrop makes it very picturesque.

  • Loved our stay here, we arrived late in the dark but it was still easy to find. The location is gorgeous and we wish we could have stayed a few more days. Everything you need is in the unit and it has a cute outdoor seating area, views of the ocean and islands, and is a short walk to a beautiful beach. Would highly recommend!

  • Lovely location not too far from St Margaret's Hope village. The Byre is a cosy little cottage and was a lovely place to stay on a wild and windy Orkney night. It has a wood burning fire and well equipped kitchen. We were going to venture out to the local village pub for dinner but ended up staying in and cooking we were so comfortable. Fantastic views out to sea.

Lachine Cottage is in a perfect setting overlooking the marina and close to all amenities that Stromness has to offer. The property has recently been modernised and has a fresh and homely feel to it with stunning views.
Stromness is a beautiful little town with cobbled streets, lots of local shops, cafes and a harbour. A perfect base for exploring all that Orkney has to offer.
  • Wonderful cosy house in Stromness. Fantastic views over the harbour and beyond from the big sitting room windows. Very well situated for exploring the town (which we loved) and for visiting many of the main attractions such as Ring of Brogdar etc. The house was warm, clean and the kitchen had everything you could want. Lovely little back garden for those visiting in the warmer months. Would definitely book again!!

  • Loved the style of this newly and beautifully done conversion, with excellent facilities. Highly recommend a stay here. 4 nights wasn’t enough and sad to leave. Excellent value.

  • Expectations were high after seeing the location and pictures. And the reality was even better than that, The Barn is really an ideal place to stay for a few days. It is the middle of the 3 apartments but still with a private feel about it. Inside was all new and sparkling clean, high quality furnishings, kitchen is well stocked with equipment and really nice modern Siemens appliances. Underfloor heating on the tiled floors was a treat. Out back was a patio and picnic tables in the large garden, thought we never had a chance to use those with the Orkney weather!

  • We highly recommend this place.

  • If it’s available take it! A little tough to find but when you get there it’s well worth it . A farm setting with mountains and beautiful fields covered in heather . The baa of the sheep was an added treat!
