Aside from a short stint in New Haven, CT, I've spent the last 20 years in Virginia and consider it my home. My mom has always loved it for the four seasons, and boy, are they ever present. Having spent 15 years in Williamsburg and constantly foraging into Richmond for food, entertainment and culture, it was a natural transition to move here after wrapping up in Connecticut. My wife and I barely had a discussion about it. We knew where home was. Since moving to the area, we've been delighted to explore some of the city's 500+ independently owned restaurants, purchased bikes to take in the views and ride the abundant trails, and found real connectedness to community through things like Creative Mornings and the plethora of festivals that go on throughout the year. We're having fun and we're just getting started. One of my favorite parts about Richmond is the ability to get to so many places in a short amount of time. You can get to the beach or Washington D.C. in a couple of hours and the mountains are also only a couple of hours away. A little further and you'll find yourself in Baltimore, Philadelphia or New York, all fractional day trips away. As a host, I strive to offer a degree of hospitality that most guests won't have experienced at other Airbnbs. Thoughtful touches, peace and quiet, scerene gardens, convenient access, local tips, flexible accommodations - I hope these considerations combined with the personal connection that I try to make with each guest makes everyone's stay a true getaway - even if they're just traveling through or are in town for a day of work. Traveling around the United States for work and around the world for pleasure is what keeps me coming back to Airbnb. Having a lifeline to real people in the community I am visiting is what I get with Airbnb that I know I won't find at a hotel.
