Our cozy little cottage opens onto an oversized Southern screened porch that leads to a private courtyard. Festive nights in the French Quarter can be followed with a nightcap on the porch or early morning coffee listening to the song birds bringing in the new day.

The space

Our 105 year old home flanks the newly renovated guest house with a private entrance to the courtyard and guest house. The screened porch and lush tropical courtyard welcomes guests to a real New Orleans experience.

Guest access

The tropical courtyard and screened porch are fully available to guests. There is a gas grill, large indoor and outdoor dining tables a luxury seating area on the porch along with radio and tv for those afternoon ball games you just can't miss. The private entrance through the garden is well lit for easy access.

Other things to note

We have small dogs and welcome a well behaved dog who interacts nicely with new dogs. Should you bring your dog we are happy to provide a crate and supervised play time with our dogs. Our dogs will not be roaming about the guest area unsupervised unless guests wish to have a lot of interaction with them. It is important for us to ensure the comfort and safety of our pets and potential guests pets; therefore, making sure the entrance gate is always closed and secure is extremely important as we are located on a busy street.

We desire mature guests who want to have a great New Orleans experience while enjoying our home environment. Keeping the gates closed and latched for the security of our home and pets is crucial as we reside in a busy street. When we have guests we typically don't let our dogs in the side yard unsupervised as we want our guests to be comfortable and we understand that not everyone loves dogs.
Music and festivals and Mardi Gras are fun times and our guests should enjoy the festivities to the fullest keeping in mind that we all live very close together in these quaint New Orleans neighborhoods and should respect our neighbors quiet time late in the evening.
Smoking in the courtyard is allowed with proper disposal of fully extinguished cigarette butts in the trash.
As previously stated dogs are allowed if they are house trained and interact with new dogs easily as we have small dogs and often have foster dogs who are awaiting their forever homes. We offer a crate and blankets for the dog to utilize while guests out and about. Additionally, we are happy to let your dog out for play time and potty breaks as you desire. We are not responsible for your dog should it become ill or injured at our home. An emergency vet clinic is about 15 minutes away.
You will be able to easily enter and exit through a side gate that leads to the courtyard allowing you to come and go as you please. It is always well lit so you can stay out till the wee hours and be sure to have a lighted path home! We hope you have all the fun!

The courtyard/patio was so peaceful and charming. The radio jazz music really made it a beautiful experience. Great place to stay!

Phyllis couldn’t have been more accommodating. Her home is exactly what we hoped for in New Orleans, and the dogs and cats made it feel like home to us. To feel that cozy and relaxed in a 24-hr, bustling city is nearly impossible to find. We will gladly look her up first when we return!

The space was as described, location was very good. Phyllis was a fabulous host and even tho I got a couple things wrong she was very gracious.

Miss Phyllis was extremely hospitable and very communicative during our stay. The "cottage" is a extremely unique and different experience from a traditional house or apartment and my wife and I really enjoyed just having a small, cozy little place with patio (not to mention being away from the constant hustle and bustle of the French quarter and burbon street was rather nice). While we were a tad worried initially with the neighborhood, we didn't have any problems whatsoever and were quite surprised with how quiet and relaxed the area was. If you're looking for a quirky stay experience I would definitely recommend Phyillis' cottage.

Interaction with guests

Because our home is adjacent to the screened porch we would interact with guests occasionally. We enjoy hosting guests and want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable. There is a significant level of privacy for us and guests.

About Phyllis

Lover of all things in nature and art. Music, animals, water, wind, festivals and dancing....dancing and more dancing. You'll find me at a New Orleans Second Line, Mardi Gras Indians and where anything cultural around here is happening.
My hosting style is based on the guest. I chat with them, learn what their interests are and then point them in those directions. I adore sharing our history, traditions and cultures with everyone. When you give people space to be themselves yet make yourself warm and available to them they will enjoy themselves almost every single time!
