The space
Westwind Studio embodies the perfect blend of eco-conscious living and creature comforts! Solar panels and batteries power the majority of the cabin, while we seamlessly connect to the electric grid for heavier-demand items such as air conditioning in the summer and electric radiant heating in the winter. Our rainwater collection and filtration system provides you with a sustainable and refreshing water source. In our opinion, it tastes much better than most city drinking water! We thoughtfully built this cabin ourselves with the best intentions in mind.
Inside, you will find…
-A small but mighty kitchen! We have prepared many meals here. Guests will enjoy all the kitchen basics such as pots, pans, plates, bowls, cups, a colander and silverware. There is a mini fridge, a two burner gas stove, a toaster oven and basic seasonings for your culinary adventures!
-A french press for coffee; coffee and sugar are provided. Please bring your own creamer.
-A queen sized IKEA bed that transforms into a comfortable couch for cozy mornings and evenings. It is on the firmer side, allowing you to wake up rejuvenated and ready to explore the Red River Gorge.
-A high-quality Bluetooth stereo system featuring Paradigm speakers.
Outside you will find…
-Our composting outhouse.
-An exterior shower; shampoo, conditioner and body wash provided. The shower has on demand hot water. Please note: the shower will be unavailable during the colder months when the lows dip below freezing.
-A stone firepit with two wrought iron chairs and complementary firewood.
-A charcoal grill; please supply charcoal.
-A small deck with two camping chairs
-A cooler for additional food storage; please supply any ice you may need.
-Two hammocks swaying under the rock shelter
As of December 2024, we have finished construction of our own home on the same property. We value our guests’ privacy so you will not hear or see us at all, only if you need anything! Everything stated above is for our guests at Westwind, not shared by us.

Westwind Studio is located about 5-10 minutes down a gravel road off Highway 15, in between exits 40 and 43 of the Mountain Parkway.
**4x4 is strongly encouraged/high clearance mandatory** due to the steep, rugged gravel roads and two stream crossings.
There is a designated parking spot for Westwind guests outside our home. Once you park, you will take the short trail down to Westwind Studio. The trail is about 200 ft long and descends about 60 ft.
Other things to note
There is no Wi-Fi but cell service is very good.
Pets are allowed at Westwind with a few guidelines. We have a weight limit of 40 lbs total and up to 2 dogs (i.e. one dog that weighs no more than 40 lbs or two dogs that weigh no more than 40 lbs together). No breed restrictions. Our pet fee is $30. We have a friendly dog named Juno, who will either be inside our house or outside on her leash.
We provide coffee, tea and sugar; but we do not supply creamer.
The mini fridge has a very tiny freezer. If you’d like some additional cold storage, there’s a cooler on the patio; please supply your own ice.
Firewood is included and will be set out by the fire pit along with lighter fluid. Please bring your own charcoal if intending to grill.
