Welcome to my riverside apartment in the quiet village of Airton, in Malhamdale, about 20 minutes by car from Skipton. Malham is just up the river, Settle is over the hill, and the Yorkshire Three Peaks are nearby too. A lovely, peaceful retreat.

There is also a third of a mile of fly fishing for wild brown trout, available on request. Airton is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park and is within easy reach of many walking trails, Malham Tarn, The Cove, along with Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss, both of which have spectacular waterfalls. For lovers of the great outdoors, the area offers an abundance of walking trails, plus close by is the Malham Tarn, The Cove and 'Janet's Foss' - a spectacular waterfall. About the location
Gargrave 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 8 miles.
The picturesque Dales village of Airton is situated in beautiful Malhamdale amidst superb open limestone countryside. The village was known as Airtone in the Domesday Book, and was originally a Quaker village. There is still a Quaker meeting house, along with a squatter's cottage on the village green and an old mill on the River Aire. Airton boasts a popular farm shop and tea room at Town End Farm, which is renowned for selling excellent local produce. Airton is a great starting point for walkers, with a route along the Pennine Way into Malhamdale, or you may wish to walk from Gargrave to Malham, via Kirkby Malham, where you will find an historic parish church and village inn. More energetic walkers should explore Calton over Calton Moor to Weets Top and Gordale, or eastwards towards Hetton. Nearby Malham is a magnet for visitors to the Dales who come to see Malham Cove, one of Britain's most impressive natural features. The Cove consists of a natural cavern or 'amphitheatre' of limestone rock stretching 75 metres in height and 300 metres around the perimeter. A steep walk up man-made steps is rewarded with a superb view across moors and limestone pavements to Malham Tarn - the Pennines' highest lake. Airton is a wonderful central location with Skipton, Settle and Grassington all within easy reach of this Yorkshire Dales village.

“The flat is very clean, well equipped, and comfortable for our family of five. The location is ideal for walking the Pennine Way. The flat has an excellent view of the river Aire. We were pleasantly surprised and think the star rating should be more. Excellent overall.”

“The property was in an ideal position and so quiet and peaceful. We had a wonderful 5 nights there and would certainly go back there again.”

Airton is on the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway. There is a farm shop and cafe about five minutes walk away, they sell basic provisions, (milk, bread etc.) and more importantly wine, beer, and cake. The popular cafe opens in time for a late breakfast, until about 5pm. (Closed most Mondays.)
Malham is a couple of miles up the river, and is very popular with walkers and day-trippers. Attractions include Malham Cove, Janet's Foss (waterfall in the woods), and Gordale Scar, a spectacular gorge. Above the village is Malham Tarn, a lake surrounded by National Trust reserves. Malham has a choice of shops, pubs and cafes.
The closest pub to Airton is The Victoria, in Kirkby Malham, half way to Malham.
About 10 minutes in the car over the tops is the small market town of Settle, at the start of the picturesque Settle-Carlisle steam railway.
Skipton is 20 minutes away, and has a great High Street for shopping. There's a choice of supermarkets and petrol stations, also Skipton Castle, the steam railway, and canal cruises.
