Enjoy your own self-contained ground floor apartment, pool, stoep, and braai when you stay in our lovely home and grounds in peaceful McGregor village, nestling between two mountain ranges with farms and vineyards all around. Get to know our horses who are also on site. The two bedrooms have their own bathrooms, and there is a dining room/study and a small kitchenette. You have the whole space to yourselves; charges vary according to the number of bedrooms used and guests.

The space
You will have your own private space at one end of the property whether you are a solo traveller or in a group of up to 4. The air conditioned en suite master bedroom has 2 sets of double doors, one leading onto the stoep and pool and looking over to the horses' shelter, the other leading to a small sheltered courtyard which also has an outside shower. There is a small kitchenette area with microwave, electric frying pan, toaster, kettle, fridge and sink also giving onto the extensive stoep (with its own braai); you also have a sitting room/study for relaxing nights in. The study contains your own front door. The second bedroom is immediately adjacent and has its own bathroom with walk-in shower directly opposite; because the en suite only has an outside shower, the second bathroom is always available for shy types! The second bedroom can be set up as either one double or two single beds - please let us know which you would need if 3 or 4 of you are staying.

Guest access
There is a locked connecting door to the owners' part of the property, but you have your own front door with access to the study from the street. The garden area is open to both parts of the house, but you will have a large covered stoep and small courtyard - both with table and chairs - to yourselves. There is a kettle braai for your use (please bring your own fuel, firelighters etc).

Other things to note
We must ask guests not to stray into the paddocks or tack/feed room areas, nor to feed or pet the horses, and we will accept no responsibility if you don't heed this advice and come off second best! There will be some activity on the site when they are fed and exercised but we will detour around your space when that's happening. We hope that you will enjoy the horses' presence as much as we do - many of our reviews mention how relaxing and enjoyable guests have found it to just sit and watch them at fairly close quarters.

Some people don't "get" McGregor; others do. It took us three days to decide to buy a house here - so be careful! It's very peaceful but has its own energy - it boasts the only Poetry Festival (as far as we know) in South Africa, takes part in the Wacky Wine Weekend and the food festivals based around nearby Robertson, and hosts a running race and a couple of major cycling events each year. There are musical events most weeks (at the Courtyard), and we have a thriving community of artists. The gardens at Temenos (by arrangement) offer an oasis of peace which can be enjoyed by visitors to its "Tebaldi's" Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Other food venues have changed their offer as a result of Covid 19 restrictions; we will tell you the up-to-date picture when you book and/or when you are about to arrive.

Steve and I share our time between Northumberland (UK) and McGregor in South Africa's Western Cape, about 2 hours from Cape Town, where we share our space with our 3 horses. We are keen sports watchers - particularly cricket, rugby and football - and regular walkers, theatre and concert goers. I am an experienced horse rider and yoga enthusiast, and run every day.

During your stay
One or both of us us will usually be in residence during your stay. We have been in the village for 20 years and know what's available and when. The Tourism Office is just a block away for more detailed advice and for bookings for the Boesmanskloof Trail. But if you want to be left alone, that's fine by us. We're a bit like that ourselves.
