The space

We call this "SliceO'Heaven Ranch" for a very good reason! If you want to leave the city life behind and immerse yourself in complete country living, this is your destination.. if you're headed to anywhere in the greater Sacramento area, ( including Elk Grove, Wilton, Galt Lodi, & Rancho Murieta), we're about 35 miles south of the capitol, in the rural town of Herald... but well worth the commute if you're in town on business or pleasure. We offer a large room with private bath and separate entrance off of a sun deck. THIS IS A WORKING RANCH with all the "charm" that goes with it. We have horses, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats. OVERNIGHT HORSE BOARDING available! You should be an animal enthusiast to take full advantage of this wonderful 8 - acre property. We are a non-profit corporation functioning as a rescue and sanctuary for dogs, cats and horses. We are respectful of our guests, keeping the dogs under control while out for limited exercise or in the kennels. Your dog is welcome, but please keep him or her on leash until we can see how they'll all get along. Plenty of places to walk, sit, meditate and participate. Riding lessons available! Seasonal swimming pool, BBQ, lounge chairs, and baby goats born in the spring! Breakfast (fresh ranch eggs!) included with arrangements available for all meals. (10 miles to the closest restaurant.. but you won't want to leave!!) We accommodate vegetarians and vegans. World renowned, award-winning smoothies! ;-)
This ranch is best suited for people who love nature and the outdoors... and with all the fresh air and hard work around here.. we generally wind down somewhat early in the evening. (There's no TV in the room, sorry) Please contact us with any questions.. we'd love to hear from you! Shelley

Guest access

We love to share the property with guests. In colder months, meals will be served in the dining room but in the summer you'll be served at the picnic table under the shady mulberry tree. Because of dogs and other pets, the main house is not accessible to guests.

Interaction with guests

We live here on the ranch. If you want to be alone, we'll certainly respect your need for solitude. Otherwise we love to socialize and hear your story and share ours!

Family/kid friendly
Pets allowed
Wireless Internet

No smoking
No parties or events
Not safe or suitable for children (2-12 years) - We love to share the ranch with kids but they must be supervised by parents at all times. They must be quiet and calm around the animals. Thanks.
Check-in time is 3PM - 8PM
Check out by 11AM

Please be a non-smoker. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on this property. The main guidelines are, common sense, followed by awareness of others and animals. We love to share the outdoors, pets and livestock with guests. We appreciate children who are respectful of property and cautious in their approach to the 4-legged residents here. We discourage running and yelling around the livestock as they spook easily. There are lots of "party" destinations and this probably isn't one of them. Bring your dog as long as he is not aggressive toward other dogs and be advised that our "pack" loves to rough house with other canines! It's like the dog park all day long! (no barkers, please) Just be respectful all around and we're happy! Shelley

You must also acknowledge
Potential for noise - Noise would include occasional dog barking (I stop it right away), horses neighing and other barn noises.

This place is a quaint and rustic getaway tucked into the country side of Northern California. The room is very tastefully done and clean with amazing attention to detail of the country style decor. The farm has so many animals including dogs, cats, chickens, horses, goats and is a heaven for animal lovers and your pets (if they get along with other dogs). Shelley runs a rescue for dogs and cats in need and you will get to spend time with animals that have found a great foster home here. If you are looking for a digital detox with a time filled with nature and animals and perhaps a good book, this is what you are looking for. Shelley and Dennis are just great hosts with so much love in their hearts and Shelley even kept me well fed with her wonderful farm-to-table cooking.

Shelley is the best host. Very accommodating and watched out for my pup while I was out. I worked a long day and she made me a hot meal when I returned. She is wonderful. And I loved all the pups on property! Space was very cozy and clean. Highly recommended

The Property: The dog-friendly house is on a farm in a beautiful, quiet area in a rural community about 40 mins outside of Sacramento. There are wide open vistas, lots of sun and it’s very peaceful. Lots of fruit trees, too! As this is a farm, expect to be greeted by a variety of friendly farm animals including horses, dogs, and cats…the chickens, goats, pig and the cow are housed by the barns. So great! We could’ve stayed all weekend just to hang out with all of the animals. The Room: The spacious room is private and wholly comfortable with a full en suite bathroom, which has plenty of fresh towels, soaps, shampoo/conditioners. There’s a Keurig coffee machine in the room. The bed is king sized and very comfortable. The room was very clean and charming! The Experience: Shelley made us feel welcomed and at home before we even arrived. While we were driving in, she made an excellent recommendation for a place to have dinner and even made the reservation for us. Once we arrived, Shelley helped us get settled into our room and gave us a tour of the farm. My husband and I are animal lovers so having access to a menagerie of farm animals to hang out with was heaven. We were in the area for an adventure race for my husband and our dog so we had to get up early the next morning. Shelley was up at the crack of dawn and made us a delicious breakfast, which she served in her dining room. Once we returned from the race later that morning, she whipped up smoothies made from home-made goat milk yogurt and peaches from their trees. Again, HEAVEN!! We capped off our brief stay with spending more time hanging out with Shelley, strolling around the property and spending time with the animals. Overall: This is one of our favorite AirBnB rentals, ever! We will find an excuse to be up in the area so we can stay with Shelley again. This was truly a “home away from home” experience for us and our dog. Her ratings are well deserved!! Thank you again, Shelley!! XOXO Dana, Thad & Zeno

We were in the area to participate in a charity bike ride. Shelly & Dennis were awesome hosts, took care of our two pups when we did our ride, and made us feel part of their (truly) extended family. As a veterinarian and wildlife biologist w/dogs, we enjoyed the serene setting amid a rescue ranch for a large family of dogs, cats, horses (and more) . . . country-rich breakfast, and great conversation. Comfy sleeping accommodations away from the bustle and noise of asphalt jungle.

I'm from Herald, a small, rural community about 35 miles southeast of Sacramento. We operate a goat and horse ranch; teach riding lessons, as well as a dog and cat animal shelter. I love animals and nature and starting a flower farm... life's better after 50!
