The space

We call this "Slice of Heaven Ranch" for a very good reason! We also have a second room now, called "More Slice of Heaven".. look for it in the listings! If you want to leave the city life behind and immerse yourself in complete country living, this is your destination.. if you're headed to anywhere in the greater Sacramento area, ( including Elk Grove, Wilton, Galt Lodi, & Rancho Murieta), we're about 35 miles south of the capitol, in the rural town of Herald... but well worth the commute if you're in town on business or pleasure. We offer a large room with private bath and separate entrance off of a sun deck. THIS IS A WORKING RANCH with all the "charm" that goes with it. We have horses, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, ducks, dogs and cats. OVERNIGHT HORSE BOARDING available! You should be an animal enthusiast to take full advantage of this wonderful 8 - acre property.
YOUR PET(S) are welcome, up to two. There is a $25. cleaning fee for the first pet and a $15. fee for the second. This is a charge outside of the room fee.
We are a non-profit corporation functioning as a rescue and sanctuary for dogs, cats and horses. We are respectful of our guests, keeping the dogs under control while out for limited exercise or in the kennels. Your dog is welcome, but please keep him or her on leash until we can see how they'll all get along. Plenty of places to walk, sit, meditate and participate. RIDING lessons available! Seasonal swimming pool, BBQ, lounge chairs, and baby goats born in the spring! Breakfast (fresh ranch eggs!) included with arrangements available for all meals. (10 miles to the closest restaurant.. but you won't want to leave!!) We accommodate vegetarians and vegans. World renowned, award-winning smoothies! ;-)
This ranch is best suited for people who love nature and the outdoors... and with all the fresh air and hard work around here.. we generally wind down somewhat early in the evening. (There's no TV in the room, sorry) Please contact us with any questions.. we'd love to hear from you! Shelley

This was one of the best vacations we ever had! We loved Shelley’s ranch! She cooked scrumptious breakfasts every morning which we enjoyed outside in the fresh air while listening to the rooster crow! She gave us horseback riding lessons every day and made dinner for us too! We g…

Our second trip to the farm and our favorite destination. Shelley is the most thoughtful host and we even got to experience a baby goat on the property. We are going to come regularly to this farm and sanctuary for animals. The dogs were amazing as well, and the accommodation r…

We are city slickers, and this was our first farm experience. We were looking forward to seeing the animals, and Shelley was welcoming and open to letting us explore at our own pace which was nice. The dogs, the chickens, the goats, the horses, ducks, cats. Wow! We soon felt …

This place hit the NAIL ON THE HEAD! We (mid-30s couple with kids) were looking for a weekend get-away from the East Bay away from the munchkins and thought "let's stay on a farm!" Our experience was relaxing, refreshing, calm, and educational. The grounds alone are beautiful …

I recommend Shelly's house for the person who wants to spend a peaceful time with animals. We, especially my 6 yo son, had a fantastic time. We stayed 1night, but after visiting, I found it was short. Next time, if we should go back to work until next Monday, we want to stay for …

I'm from Herald, a small, rural community about 35 miles southeast of Sacramento. We operate a goat and horse ranch; teach riding lessons, as well as a dog and cat animal shelter. I love animals and nature and starting a flower farm... life's better after 50!
