Our Handcrafted Home is a private home situated in Choglamsar Village, a suburb of Leh in a calm residential area with plenty of greenery. We are away from the buzz in Leh but still very close with 7km to Leh.
We started building this house in 2019 with the idea to create a space which feels part of the land it is built on and in harmony with the ecosystem of Ladakh.
We love cooking for our guests so dinner and breakfast are included if you wish.

The space
The property features a main house and a guest cottage. Both are built with rammed earth and using mostly wood, stone and glass. The house was built under the guidance of Bogadhi Sandeep, an award winning architect in Ladakh.

Our guests are staying in the guest cottage, a private and cosy space with views over the Stok Range and a big private outdoor deck to sit on and enjoy the afternoon sun. The home furnishings are all entirely hand-spun and handwoven by our team of artisans. Coffee and tea in the morning is inclusive of course! Also, facilities for making tea and coffee in the cottage are provided.

We, Angtak and Catherine, are a Ladakhi-German couple and are working with traditional textile crafts here in Ladakh and Assam through our label We are KAL.
At our home you can also see the backstrap loom weaving and discover how raw wool turns to textiles.

Our garden epitomizes our approach to life - growing in harmony with nature, patiently waiting for seeds to turn into plants and cherishing the change of the seasons. Since 2019 we have started turning this barren land into a little jungle and each year the garden gets more beautiful. We invite you to harvest (of course, depending on the season :)) and enjoy the magic of a garden.

We built our guest cottage for our family and friends visiting from far away, but of course it is not occupied all the time. That’s why we are now welcoming guests who are visiting Ladakh to stay with us, just like a friend. You will experience a place of serenity, craft and authenticity.

Guest access
Our guests can use the kitchen, dining room, living room. They can pick veggies and flowers from the garden and learn about traditional backstrap loom weaving from our weavers.
Coffee, tea, non alcoholic drinks etc are all inclusive.

Hi there! Originally, I am from Kharnak, a nomadic area in Eastern Ladakh. Together with my wife Catherine we have created our home here in Choglamsar. We are running a textile business called "We are KAL". Our focus is on handspun and handwoven natural fibers from remote areas of India such as Assam and the Changthang Plateau.
