Beaches! Views! Vines! Wines!
Visit boutique vineyards and capture the essence of Waiheke on a scenic tour of some stunningly beautiful vineyards.
On the Te Ara Hura walking track network you can explore the coastline, pass through native bush and visit historical sites.
There's a great range of walks, from short and easy through to more challenging, and all 100km of them are now connected. You can start at any point, finish wherever you want and go in any direction.
Whether it is the quiet solitude and unique fragrance of the native bush or the stunning views from cliff-tops and headlands, Waiheke's walkways offer a diversity and tranquility rarely found.
Oneroa Beach – The main beach, on the northern side of Oneroa.
Little Oneroa Beach – A small secluded beach, separated by a protruding cliff wall.
Palm Beach – Similar in shape to Oneroa Beach (complete with protruding cliff wall at the east end that separates a small private beach in Boatshed Bay)
Little Palm Beach – A small clothes-optional beach at the west end of Palm Beach.
Hekerua Bay - a secluded, stony little bay accessible by either boat or foot.
Blackpool Beach – popular for kayaking and windsurfing.
Surfdale Beach – Separated from Blackpool Beach by a small protruding peninsula, which has a scenic unsealed route called The Esplanade linking the beaches. Popular for kitesurfing.
Onetangi Beach – A 1.87 km long, north-facing beach. For many years it has been the site of the Onetangi Beach Horse Races. It has sandcastle building contests annually; participants have a few hours to build their creations in soft sand that is free of shells and suitable for digging.
Rocky Bay, Dead Dog Bay & Whakanewha, Great walks beautiful southern bays and Māori archaeological sites. Go for a bush walk to the Cascades in the Whakanewha Regional Park.
Cactus Bay – Considered by many Waihekeans as the most perfect beach and, with nearby Garden Cove, a romantic place for picnicking. The beach is accessible only by boat or kayak.
In landscape, lifestyle and experience, Waiheke is a world away.
There are plenty of places to enjoy a good coffee or a taste of New Zealand's fresh Pacific Rim cuisine, the island also boasts more than a dozen high-quality vineyards, many with relaxed restaurants onsite. Enjoy local wine while looking out over vine-covered valleys to the blue sea beyond.
