Casa da Oliveira is one of two rural secluded cabins, nestled amongst the vines of the Douro Valley, where you can find tranquility and enjoy the vistas of one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.

Casa da Oliveira is located at the top of the property, and the first you will see upon arrival. Located above a trickling water deposit, it has soaring views of the valley and a feeling of being on the top of the world.

The space
The cabin is a carefully designed eco friendly single unit, with an open plan living room/kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and a separate bedroom.

Its floor to ceiling windows, and the terrace that extends in front of the cabin, offer spectacular views of the Douro river, the surrounding vineyards, the valley’s mountains, and the enormous sky (where you’re likely to spot a shooting star or two at night).

There are two fold-out bunkbeds in the cabin’s corridor, and a sofa bed in the lounge, meaning the cabin can accommodate four or five – but that can be a bit of a squeeze for some ;) The cabin’s perhaps most comfortable for two (with optional children), but can fit more if you don’t mind being intimate.

The kitchen is fully equipped (with an electric hob, microwave-oven, Nespresso machine and filter coffee maker). The cabin has WiFi, and inside it you can also find information about the best local restaurants, trips, and wine routes in the region. The two cabins are exactly the same size and layout, and are significantly apart from and hidden from each other, so you can enjoy full privacy.

A pool is shared by the two cabins, and overlooks the river with more great views. The pool is surrounded by a terrace, and plenty of rosemary (which you’re welcome to use in your cooking!). Additionally, depending on the season, you may find cherries, figs or oranges on the trees, which you’re welcome to sample if they’re ripe.

A barbecue is built into the stone wall beside the cabin (we just ask you to be very careful with any and all naked flames, as we’re in the countryside). A washing machine is available if required.

This is a very special place for us, where we love to come (when we can) to get away from the city, surrounded by birdsong and the green of nature, watching the fog snake down the river in the morning, and the stars take over the huge sky at night.

Guest access
The cabins are located around a 75 minute drive from Porto. Access is via a brief dirt track, and then a short steep winding cobblestone road down a hill - it can be a bit of a daunting descent at first, but we promise you’ll get used to it, and no special vehicle is necessary at all.

Please use the GPS coordinates or google maps link that we’ll send after your booking to locate the cabin, as it can be a little tricky to find the property otherwise.

The isolated cabins are a wonderful place to simply switch off, unwind and enjoy the views and sounds of Douro, from your terrace or the shared pool, under the massive skies. But for those looking to make a few trips whilst in Douro, we’ve put together some suggestions that we can send after your reservation, and that you’ll find in our guide in the cabin.

Nearest towns for supplies are the smaller Santa Marinha do Zêzere (c.10 min drive), or the larger Resende, over the river (c.15 min drive).

It’s worth noting that the slow pace of Douro and it being somewhat off the tourist track means that advance booking is often recommended for things like wine tastings and dinner. The winding roads can mean driving takes a bit of time, but the views are stunning! Also, restaurants don’t always accept international credit cards - it’s worth carrying enough euros just in case.
