Our home is located high up on a 107-acre mountainside. Views of Lake Champlain and the Green Mtns of Vermont provide a spectacular setting. We are within driving distance to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mtn, Ausable Chasm, Plattsburgh Airport & Montreal. Check out our

The space

Our home is called Crosscut. It is an Adirondack paradise. The home was built in 2003. It has all the charms of a Great Camp but also the amenities of a modern well built home.
The home has large rooms and an open floor plan with cathedral ceilings. Our sleeping quarters are upstairs and include a work/office and sitting area.
Our guests have access to the kitchen for breakfast preparations, dining on the deck and screened in porch. There are six outdoor sitting areas - all with a view, to use at your pleasure. Our fire pit area is up on the ridge overlooking the lake... plenty of firewood is available for your use. Your bedroom is 14' X 13'. There is a large closet with numerous shelves. Furniture includes a new queen size bed, a desk and chair, a rocker, a nightstand and lamp, a bookcase, a flat-screen TV. There is an overhead light and ceiling fan. The entire home is centrally heated and air conditioned. Your room can be accessed through a private side door mudroom ... down the hall way is your bedroom and a private newly decorated full bathroom.

Interaction with guests

We are somewhat retired and are generally busy at some task. We would certainly enjoy chatting with you, sharing a glass of wine and cheese on the deck and sharing with you all of the wonderful recreation and educational opportunities our area offers. We do speak English, French and Spanish.

Other things to note

Winter Fun in the Champlain Valley and Beyond

Don't let the cold temperatures stop you from getting outdoors and enjoying the Adirondacks. The Champlain Valley area is still relatively snow and ice free except at higher elevations. Be prepared for things to change however. A pair on mini-spike crampons can really be an asset when hiking along some icy/snowy terrain - as well as good hiking boots, walking sticks, snow shoes or X-country skis dependent upon terrain and weather conditions. Dress in layers with water resistant, breathable clothing. Avoid cotton jeans, etc.

There are many trails for winter enjoyment. We have trail maps for your convenience.

During the winter months Ausable Chasm is open but advance reservations are needed for day or night tours. They also offer some winter adventure packages that include ice climbing and rappelling for the brave. Call for information.

Lake Placid has many events during the winter months ... such as the Empire State Games in Feb., Ice Hockey championships as well as Nordic Ski Racing events. Please check their as well as Whiteface Mtn website for a complete listing. Of course there is world-class skiing and boarding at Whiteface and the snow is great this year.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival begins on Feb 3 - 9 days of ice fun in a picturesque town in the mountains. The locals have already begun the construction of the Ice Palace. The Parade - a not-to-be-missed unique event truly underscores the character of this town - dubbed America's Greatest Small City.

We are just a short ferry ride away from Burlington, Vt. - a hip town with a lot happening year-round. Feb. alone is the time for the Winter Lights, the Penguin Plunge, the Winter Bash, the Ice Bar and more. Check out ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center.

Montreal ... Less than an easy two-hour drive ... don't forget your passports or Visa if needed. I'll list just a few winter fun ideas: Ski or sled Mont Royal; Old Montreal Food Tour; Old Montreal Ice Fishing Village; Igloofest (electronic music!); Montreal en Lumiere; Skating - rinks all over the city; Bota Bota Spa.

Here are some things to do/see locally. We will have brochures for you :
Whiteface Mtn; Ausable Chasm; permit to the local beach and boat ramp; numerous NYS hiking trails; ferries to Vermont; wildlife refuge; Ausable River trout fishing; Lake Placid; Plattsburgh Int'l Airport; Canoe and kayak rentals; restaurants - casual or fine dining; numerous historical sites and villages; 1 1/2 hrs to Montreal

First off, I must thank both Marilyn and Mitch for being extremely gracious hosts. It is no secret that they own a lovely house on a lovelier setting with a view that truly measures up to it's title: Million Dollar View. No picture or word could possibly do justice to it. You truly have to be there and soak it in yourself. You'll be glad you did. Sitting epynomously on Lake Champlain and far from tourist traps. Not being the smartest kid on the block, I did end up losing my way a little, coming into Marilyn's. A short phone call is all that was needed and Marilyn navigated me right in. I drove a little over 300 miles to get there but the gregarious couple and their kids (their 2 dogs - Rousseau and Manoush - the best behaved dogs I have ever seen in my life) and a lovely view, more than made up for it. They welcomed me with wine and cheese and patiently answered all my questions. Both Marilyn and Mitch were excellent conversationalists. Extremely well read, well travelled and dog lovers. The bed and the room was just right for my need. I stayed for two nights and drove upto Whiteface Mountain summit and visited the Ausable Chasm. The views at the Whiteface summit were to die for. Finally both Rousseau and Manoush won me over. They were actually sad and crying, yes you read that right. Crying, to see me go. Only such a lovely couple like M & M can own a pair of such lovely dogs! I finally said goodbye to them with a promise to come stay with them again. This time with my wife and kids. Au revoir.

Marilyn and Mitch are such wonderful hosts and I couldn't have been any happier with my stay. The home is beautifully decorated with lots of plants and windows, the room was so comfortable, and the view from the home is even more scenic than the pictures. I just wish I had more time to spend!

The location has so many stunning vistas you will love them all. I enjoyed the full moonrise over the lake as an unexpected treat. Our hosts were always helpful and offering local attraction suggestions and directions. Nice room and bath to ourselves within the home that was clean, comfortable and accommodating. Homemade muffins were a sweet touch.

Marilyn and Mitch are the consummate hosts, interesting, helpful, and very considerate. Marilyn also makes some amazing blueberry muffins. Their home is just as advertised: beautiful construction, with large windows looking out onto Lake Champlain, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Their home features a deck and a screened porch for enjoying the views of the lake and woods. Very relaxing. Marilyn also supplied all the breakfast ingredients one could want and was attentive to food allergies. We enjoyed talking with them and learning about the various things to do in the area. Their two dogs are also very fun to hang around and play with. Super friendly. We hope to go back to this area and stay with them again.

Our stay with Marilyn and Mitch was wonderful. They are excellent hosts, very friendly, interesting to talk to and very attentive. Marilyn's blueberry muffins were amazing! They even supply an array of ingredients for breakfast and were considerate regarding dietary restrictions. We also loved their two dogs who were great to play with. Their house lives up to its billing as a million dollar view. From their yard, deck and even inside looking through the large windows, one has an almost 180 degree view of Lake Champlain. Absolutely spectacular. We hope to visit with them again. PS. This is my second review. I don't know how the first one got deleted, but the content is the same.
