My marvelous studio (no running water) is just 20 steps from my stone house, my primary residence. The delightful space has a comfy QUEEN bed with memory foam topper, a twin bed, and super comfy cot if requested. Private entrance, small deck, and complete privacy.
Tall ceilings and open design give the studio a loft feel. A long wall of sliding glass doors face a picturesque barn and horse pasture.
Well-behaved pets are welcome ($10/night per pet). During your absence, pets must be kenneled.
The studio is a high-ceiling, airy building nestled under huge old walnut and oak trees. Warm-colored fabric, rugs, furniture, and indirect lighting make a comfy space to hang out and relax, read, nap, or roll out a yoga mat. Board games and electric keyboard available for your enjoyment!
There is a mini-fridge, toaster, small microwave, dishes, cups, and flatware. Let us know if you want to cook in the main house kitchen or use the grill on the deck.
The space has NO RUNNING WATER, so guests come to the house (a 10-second walk) for access to the house (shared) bathroom & shower, kitchen, and large shade-covered deck. The studio has a "Luggable Loo" portable toilet if you're too sleepy to get to the house!
No internet access in the studio, but WIFI is available in the main house, front deck and yard. Bring your music and your way to play it!
Studio and small deck; and living areas in my home--large front deck, well-appointed kitchen, shared bathroom with shower, yard and prairie trails, fire pit.
Interaction with guests
I'm here to guide you and answer questions. I'll be happy to meet you and show you around! I'm gregarious, but I can also stay out of your way. Help yourself to coffee, tea, and bagels in the main house before you head in to Mt. Horeb for many good breakfast options.
Other things to note
I like to be there to greet you, but self check-in is easy if I'm not home. There is about a 40 yd. walk from the parking area where you will load and unload your car. Bring a flashlight. Please read directions to the property carefully. I live on a dead end road, but I like to minimize disturbance to my neighbors whenever possible. My driveway is marked by a big red mailbox and a small sign "CHENEY" that points down the driveway.
Bring your own music and a way to play it. If you play piano, there is a nice electric keyboard! There is a microwave, toaster, and mini-fridge in the studio, but you are welcome to store food in the main house fridge and use the kitchen or outdoor grill to prepare a meal--just let me know in advance!
Treat my place as if it were your own. Pick up after yourself, and be respectful of those around you. Pets considered on an individual basis; 2 cats live in the main house (though they don't enter the studio). No smoking, candles, or incense indoors. Firearms are not allowed on the property.
I'm Nina (pronounced Nine-a, not Neena). I'm fun, artsy, and a former professional entertainer (juggler and performing artist). I love the outdoors: hiking, bird watching, cross-county skiing, and kayaking are my passions. I travel whenever I can, even if it's a just a weekend getaway to one of the beautiful areas of my home state of Wisconsin, or a jaunt to Chicago. I have lived in Utah, Vermont, and northern California, but I'm a Wisconsinite at heart.
One of my favorite quotes is by Ray Bradbury: "You've got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down."
