Set in deepest Cotswold countryside, with ancient woodland behind, Keepers Cottage is an elegant, spacious and warm cottage, offering you peace, tranquility and breath-taking scenery just fifteen minutes from the World Heritage City of Bath.
Keepers Cottage, is a beautiful and unique residence, built using the traditional Bath Stone in the 17th century to accommodate animals, today it has been converted into a modern, warm, spacious and elegant home.
Hidden in the Cotswold countryside, Keepers Cottage has the most enormous bedroom, with a vast, cosy and elegant King Size bed. There is also a deep, stand alone, gorgeous bath right in the bedroom! So you can truly unwind at the end of your day with a big fluffy bath or you may prefer to stretch out on your ample and sumptuous bed!
Keepers Cottage is entirely separate from the main house, and is across a pretty courtyard, which in the spring has blossoming apple, pear, and peach trees amongst a wealth of lavender and many other flowers, bees and birds.
There is a large kitchen complete with a lovely SMEG fridge freezer, a large electric range, dishwasher, sink, toaster, coffee pot, teapot and kettle, we have supplied the kitchen with everything you might need to make yourselves a feast including frying pans, saucepans, a colander, sharp knives, tin openers and bottle openers, beautiful serving dishes, plates, side plates and bowls. Please let me know if there is something missing that you feel would be useful.
In the spacious sitting room there is a deep and soft sofa and an armchair for you to curl up in and read, listen to the birds or make plans. We have also installed an electric fire to keep you extra cosy during the dark Winter evenings or windy Autumn afternoons.
In the summer you can throw open the elegant French windows in the sitting room, if it is a particularly, beautiful and hot Summers day, and from the comfort of the sofa you can breathe in the delicious countryside air and enjoy sounds of bird song and animals. There are vintage Penguin books and vintage British puzzles provided for you to enjoy - but please do be careful of these heirlooms.
There is a large and warm, wooden dining table in the sitting room, with two seats and plenty of space to sit, eat, share a bottle of wine, play a puzzle or have breakfast.
The library, upstairs, has two large and deep, comfortable armchairs for you to relax in while you devise where and what you plan to do with your luxurious time in your countryside idyll! We have provided plenty of maps and local interest magazines and guides, there is information on walking and cycling locally and plenty more to be discovered in the Cotswolds and of course in Bath and Bristol
Keepers Cottage has its own entrance and off road parking space so you can come and go as you wish. There is an outdoor seating area for al fresco breakfasts or evenings spent drinking wine and listening to the birds in the ancient woodland behind.
Bed linen, towels and tea towels are all provided.
There is a also a separate bathroom with a hot shower as well as the deep bath in the bedroom.
The gardens are beautifully maintained and you can spend time walking and taking in the ancient woodland behind. The woodland is private and is full of wild birds, birds of prey, foxes, rabbits, deer, owls and many more native species. The trees are glorious during the Spring and Summer months and utterly gorgeous in the height of Autumn.
We provide breakfast for you in the cottage, which might include bread, cereal, home-made jams and jellies, marmalades, honey and other delectables that we can find for you at the time. This is included in the price.
Keepers Cottage is an entirely self-contained cottage - so you have the entire place to yourself, there is ample parking, beautiful grounds, a terrace to enjoy your morning coffee, or an evening G&T!
You are welcome to check in any time after 2pm and we would be extremely grateful if you could be on your way by 11am. We are flexible, of course, if there are no other bookings and if you need extra time - please do let me know.
There are two steps down to the front door, from the drive-way and the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen sitting room and dining room are all on one floor - so it is very cosy and easy to access. The library is upstairs.
Susie, who lives opposite has just got herself a new puppy, his name is Pilot. He is extremely friendly and very energetic! We wanted you to know because he is always keen to say hello and run into the cottage, which we do not want him to do in case he has muddy paws! We just wanted to alert you to Pilot so that you know we are not encouraging him inside the cottage as part of his training! Thank you.
Interaction with guests
As a journalist, I am always interested in hearing stories, backgrounds and other snippets of other people's fascinating lives! However, I have three children and am often busy working so I although I will do my utmost to help you to enjoy this beautiful corner of England in any way I can, please be aware that I am often busy with the children, school pick-ups and work as well!!
My mother Susie owns the property and lives just across the courtyard, together we manage this listing. I am online and can help with local information and Susie will endeavour to welcome you in and assist with anything in the property.
The fabulous thing about Keepers Cottage is that it is, of course, all yours during your stay which means you can have as much privacy as you wish and if you need either of us, I am usually available to help if I can if you have any questions, as is Susie.
Keepers Cottage is an entirely self-contained private home, Susie, in the main house and myself are on hand for any queries or emergencies. We are happy to welcome you and to say adieu if we are around, but Keepers Cottage is within the grounds of Susie's private family home and we kindly ask guests to respect this privacy - thank you.
I am always adding information to the location area on this page, so do have a look at that as well as the guidebooks, maps and other magazines available to you in the Cottage Library.
